I don't know about the quality as I have never heard of that brand. As far as the look goes they are nice IMO. I like both the browns and the navy. The navy wouldn't be versatile at all so probably isn't what you are looking for. The dark brown is slightly more versatile then the light brown. Light brown it would stand out more with jeans and may be to close in color to some chinos.

I don't like how they put thier name on the shoe like that, but that is a minor detail.

Hey all style-sensible people of TL. I've lately been trying to figure out my wardrobe and the way I dress a bit more than before. This thread has been plenty helpful, so thanks for all the contributions you guys make. I just picked up nice dark camel toned chinos and couple of new collared shirts last week, which definitely enrich my current wardrobe.

I've liked the impact that good looking shoes make for the last couple of years, and I really liked a pair of Timberlands casual shoes that I bought a couple of years ago ( http://image.bargainoutfitters.com/dimage/139709_ts.JPG?cell=200,200&cvt=jpeg Best image I could find ). Now they're worn out tho and with spring coming soon, I'm kind of in a need of new shoes. I'm only an university student so I don't really need overtly formal shoes, but I really would prefer a bit classier shoes, seeing as I'd be using them for most of the year ( Finnish winter really does require proper eskimo wear and winter boots ). Also it might be nice to be able to use the shoes on formal occasions when not wearing black, but that is a bit besides the point.

I'd like your input on these quite nice and simple Vagabonds that I've been thinking of lately:
http://www.vagabond.com/vagabond_product.aspx?ItemNr=3363-101&color=&isoCode=GB

The light brown color is the only one I've seen in stores and I do like that as well, tho I suppose I could consider the darker browns and buy them online. In any case, my price range is more or less somewhere between 100-200€ and looking for shoes that go well with more or less anything while still looking classy.

You can pick up great shoes for 200 euros even at regular price. I'd look at something slightly more high end than what you linked.

Loake makes shoes for BrooksBrothers (well-known American retailer), and their 1880 line is really quite good. I'd start there.

Thanks for the quick input guys. Like observed, Vagabond is indeed a pretty much a lower end brand, but those particular shoes simply stuck out to me, as I quite like that simple style. On a fairly quick browsing I do really like some of those Loakes, so I will have to try and find some local retailers that carry them so I could perhaps try them out and see what they look like in action. I especially liked "Savoy" , "Gladstone" , "Strand", "Hilton" and "Aldwych". I'd perhaps have to stretch my budget a bit, but they should be manageable, especially considering the longevity. I'l be sure to post again when I go shoe-shopping after the snows melt.

VaultD, Loake's 1880-series is a pretty good place to start. Bought me a pair long ago and although I do not use them anymore , they pretty much got me into quality shoes. I moved on to C&J and will hopefully in a not too distant future get me some Gaziano & Girlings (their Rothchild on DG73 last is amazing!).
I don't play for fun.

I was at the Cebit on Thuesday and Wednesday and i noticed two things,

i always thought when wearing a suit (2 button jacket) you button the top one always except when you sit down, then you open it. On Cebit though i'd say, 75% with suit where running around with an open jacket, also lecturer had their jackets open..? can someone pls explain maybe? is it that i'm missinformed or they just dont care?!

i also though it's top notch to have a handkerchief in the breast pocket but i saw just two people with one, one was a moderator and one was the ceo of vodafone germany..?

is it that i just don't know the correct fashion "guidelines" or is it that the informaticians dont know / dont care?

-Top button (middle on 3 button) should be buttoned when standing while wearing a suit.

-You should never have a handkerchief in your outside breast pocket, handkerchiefs are to be carried in your inside pocket so no one sees them. Silk pocket squares on the other hand look great in an outside breast pocket and can add a nice splash of color to an outfit. They are far from required though. The difference is a handkerchief is cheap and cotton, meant to be used for snot and tears. A silk pocket square is well silk, and therefore expensive and purely decorative.

I usually buy my clothings at Amesia , Foot Lockers and Winners.
But plz don't wear snapbacks! You'll look douchebag.
I'd rather look good and not like a douche or a try hard.

I use to be Unique , but then I took Snapback to the head

James is correct about the buttons, as are you. On a 2 button suit the top should be done up unless you are seated, and the middle button on a 3 button suit follows the same rule. They just dont know/care.

For clarification on pocket squares. They dont have to be silk. You can use a pocket square to add texture to your outfit, not just colour. Wool, silk, cotton and other materials can be used to make them. In general, unless I am dressing super casually, I will always wear a pocket square. I think it looks like youre trying on the jacket at a store, instead of accessorizing your own if you dont have one. Using a patterned cotton pocket square is a really good way to keep a casual look when you pair it with a casual blazer. It actually becomes an artform trying to pair pocketsquares with your outfit. The trick is you want them to match, but you dont want them to match. They should complement your shirt/tie/jacket, but not match them identically. I have been growing my collection recently playing around with different textures, patterns and colour combinations.

As for the question about Indochino, it is EXTREMELY hit or miss. I had 1 friend with a great experience and one with a terrible one. To be honest, I have heard more bad things than good, and even if you do get a good finished product, it is usually after 1-3 remakes, months after you first place your order.

My suggestion if you want to find a really cheap suit, is to get yourself measured, and hunt ebay. You can get $500-$1500 suits for $80-$300 no problem. If you go this route, make sure you read the listed items measurements and condition, and that you buy from an extremely well rated seller. You are more likely to get a good quality suit that you can tailor to fit very well this way, than by ordering from indochino. The material is quite cheap, as is the price. However, with ebay, you can get a great price for a high quality item. It just takes some time and some research.

On Destiny's stream last night, he said something real quick about having 5 sets of clothes, and that spending money on clothes is a waste of money. I couldn't help but think of this is thread.

That being said, some girl at work the other day told me that she liked my shoes, when I wore my "interview" ones to work. Just regular dress looking shoes, they are actually like leather and soft, but they look like dress shoes. So, on some level, you guys are right about people noticing. I also thought about this thread when that happened.

For the rest of the week though, I was sure to wear my hikers to work. I wanna make sure no one thinks I'm trying to impress them. ^_^

Maybe if I was single, it would be different though :p

Step 1: Get a lot of money.
Step 2: Read this thread.
Step 3: Look like Quesadilla.

What kind of environment are you dressing for? The level of formality, and the wardrobe suggestions would be significantly different based on what you do. If you give me some details about yourself, your workplace, etc... it would be a lot easier.

Of course people notice, especially if it is somewhat of an out of the ordinary thing for you. Like if youre a t-shirt and jeans guy, wearing a nice button down will get people's attention, dare i say particularly girls.

This just caught my eye on Kickstarter.
Semi-hand crafted shoes for $180 seems like a very good deal. Not to mention they look sweet.
They're not for everyone though, for "obvious" reasons.

Hey TL fashion bros.

I have been shopping and changing up my wardrobe lately. One thing that I have absolutely no clue how to shop for though, is mens shoes that aren't runners. I need a pair of semi-casual shoes I can dress up or down with jeans & slacks. Something that will make me look a little classier than adidas.

The reason I am coming to you guys is that I have exhausted all my local resources and am looking to either shop online, or take a trip down to Vancouver to shop, where they have way more stores. My budget is around 200$ but I obviously wouldn't mind spending less. Anyways, you guys seen/know of any shoes that are a must have? Thanks~!
