LOL I prefer a yuri story without someone getting shafted ultimately, though. But then again... my favorite yuri series.... Strawberry Panic shafts Tamao (But I didn't like her much) Kanazuki no Miko shafts the guy (I didn't even care to remember his name)
Now Yamibou.....In the end I felt the protagonist herself got shafted pretty hard >.<" that one was abit hard to swallow

Gundam SEED Destiny was more than disappointing, it was an abomination. I went into SEED Destiny wanting Gundam SEED 2, and instead I got a piece of shit that didn't have any idea what it wanted to do with its story at any point, until it was too late, featuring a ton of new characters who can't even hold a candle to the original's cast. Personally, I felt like the sequel wasn't even necessary to begin with so already right off the bat it was at an disadvantage. Also, the ending was so rushed and bad that they had to make an ova to make up for the ending and add more. Some new characters were obnoxious, and I'd even argue that some main characters in the original cast in Destiny isn't as good as the prequel. I wouldn't say it was an abomination though, there's much worse anime that I've seen then this, and to be fair there was heavy expectations considering the success of the first one and unfortunately, well you know it didn't quite deliver.

Yeah, the new characters were all bad (every last one of them), and then they went out of their way to ruin the characters of most of the returning casts as well. Cagalli got shafted really hard, and I will never forgive Destiny for that.
Destiny tried to do a Zeta Gundam take on SEED, but failed miserably. Shinn was a horrible Kamille, and after they finally realized that Shinn was a shitty character, they had Kira become the main character again. Except they had already turned Kira into an emotionless OP Beam-spam machine, with stupid reasons for fighting ("I know what you are saying! But Cagalli is crying right now!"), and even killed him. So the show was un-salvageable by that point, but they brought Kira back to life, and repeated SEED's end, so we can just forget that Destiny happened.
IMO Destiny had only 1 thing going for it: The Zakus in Destiny were really cool.

Zeta Gundam is a sequel to Gundam 0079, which is the original Gundam show made in 1979. SEED, Wing, 00, G, etc. are in alternate universes and aren't canon, so you can pretty much watch them without knowing anything about Gundam (as you did with SEED).
Gundam 0079, Zeta Gundam, etc. all take place in the "Universal Century," which is the canon timeline for Gundam shows. I think you should watch Gundam 0079, Zeta Gundam, then Char's Counterattack, but I would ask Sentenal or Kaal, because they are a lot bigger Gundam experts than I.
Edit: If you do watch Gundam 0079 though, watch the movie trilogy adaptation of it, that's what I did and they're supposed to be infinitely better than the original TV run.

There's just so many gundams that it's a little confusing and i've heard some are bad, do you have any recommendations? Yeah, I've seen pretty much every major gundam. There are alot of good ones.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam is a classic. SEED is heavily based on it, the first half of SEED is pretty much a re-imagining of the original. If you don't mind an anime from 1979, its definitely worth checking out. If you do want to watch it, I suggest the Gundam trilogy, which is basically 3 compilation movies for the original show. The Trilogy of movies was really what made Gundam take off.
Zeta Gundam is pretty much a direct sequel to the original, and considered by many Gundam fans as the best Gundam show ever made. I don't really agree its the best, but its definitely very good.
ZZ Gundam (double Zeta) is kinda crap, but its a direct sequel to Zeta Gundam.
Char's Counterattack is a movie that pretty much wraps up the storyline started in the original, and its a good movie, but you would have had to watched both the original and Zeta to appreciate it.
All this stuff was in the "Universial Century" timeline, and there are alot more shows here too. Lots of side storys, and some stuff that takes place afterwards but isn't closely related. Gundam 08th MS Team IMO stands out as the best side story, and can be watched at any time. Its really good, and not too long. Gundam 0080 is another side story movie, and its popular and well regarded, although I personally don't like it. Gundam 0083 takes place 4 years after the original, and is alright, but in this case you should probably watch the original before taking this on. Gundam F91 and Victory Gundam both take place after Char's Counterattack, and are essentially unrelated to the original's story. Either can be watched whenever. F91 is a movie, and had alot of potential, but should have been its own series rather than compressed into a movie. Victory Gundam is really fucking depressing, and the dark horse of UC Gundams.
Most recently, there is Gundam Unicorn, which is technically currently airring. Unicorn is VERY good, and extremely high quality in pretty much everything it does. It relates to the original storyline that ended at Char's Counterattack, but it really isn't necessiary to have watched all of that for Unicorn. Keep in mind that Unicorn is VERY slow in coming out, and only half way released currently, and they do 1-hour long episodes every 6 months.
Everything that isn't Universal Century is considered an "Alternate Universe", or AU. Gundam SEED is an AU, for example. AU Gundams can be watched whenever, and aren't related to preview series (with the exception of SEED Destiny).
G Gundam is a fun show, and its a "Super Robot" Gundam. I dunno if you have ever watched Gurren Lagann, but its sort of that style of over-the-topness. Its like Gundam Olympics where the athletes pilot robots and are professional wrestlers or badasses. Very unique for a Gundam show, to say the least. I really enjoyed it, though.
Gundam Wing is an AU that alot of people don't really like. However, its responsible for getting ALOT of people into Gundam, back when it airred on Cartoon Network. The show itself isn't terrible, but its not one of the best either. Its probably an okay "gateway" Gundam.
Gundam X is another one I like, although unfortunately the show was cut very short due to bad rating at the time. Its a Gundam show that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. The characters are what drive the show, and overall I liked it. Your milage may vary.
Turn A Gundam is a VERY good gundam, thats also really different from the rest. Its basically War of the Worlds meets Gundam. The concept of Turn A is that sometime in the past, the civilization destroyed itself. Eventually, people were able to rebuild, and technology had gotten up to like WW1 era technology. Then people from the Moon want to immigrate back to the Earth with their robots. Turn A Gundam is best watched after decent UC Gundam experience. Without spoiling anything, Turn A Gundam was meant to be the "last" Gundam.
Gundam 00 is the most recent Gundam series, and it came out after SEED Destiny. Gundam 00 is a mixed bag. The first season was really good. The second season, not so much. This is another good "gateway" gundam, though.

Anyways, thank you very much for the lengthy explanations of each gundam, it cleared any confusion that I had. Some time in the future I think I'll try out the original classic one before deciding on the trilogy movie version and go from there with the sequels and eventually AU's.
Thanks for your help as well Ferrose!

Though I guess the mecha sucked really bad cause all i remembered from it was the yuri KnM's mech was really terrible and didn't belong in the story, just turn it into a yuri+supernatural. The mecha totally seemed out of place I still don't understand the mech. All i remember was like 2 priestesses that were bound by destiny/fate. or w/e and somehow there was a dude there too and a group of bad guys. LOL I prefer a yuri story without someone getting shafted ultimately, though. But then again... my favorite yuri series.... Strawberry Panic shafts Tamao (But I didn't like her much) Kanazuki no Miko shafts the guy (I didn't even care to remember his name) Now Yamibou.....In the end I felt the protagonist herself got shafted pretty hard >.<" that one was abit hard to swallow
Yamibou is a must watch at least for CARNELIAN's designs =) She easily is one of my favorite illustrators.

Quoting from the Figure Maniacs thread, as I think the post is also relevant to the audience in this thread.
Hey guys,
A friend of mine posted a blog entry asking for input on running a Japanese figures panel in anime convention. Things like what topics you'd be interested on, panel format, visual aids, etc.
This being the figure maniacs thread, I think your input would be useful. Also, his blog is a very good read on anime in general; I think you'll find it interesting.

The feedback will be used in organizing Japanese figures and Collecting panels for two major conventions in the US. Even if you are not into Japanese figures, the collecting hobby or attending anime cons, constructive input is welcome (and I think TL is a good source of intelligent discussion =)

I come here in hope that you guys can help recommend me some awesome animes for me to watch. I personally really like watching psychological types of animes, but I really am open to any suggestions. I have used sites on the internet to help expand my knowledge of what animes are out there, but I feel like its somewhat hard to find myself a good anime that I have not watch already/ or enjoyed watching.
Baccano, Black Butler, Black Cat, Blood +, Claymore, Code Geass, Darker than Black, Death Note, Elfen Lied, Gantz, Samurai Champloo, and Tokko. These are all the animes that I have watched, and very much enjoyed watching. If anyone could make suggestions of animes that they think I would like, based of the list I wrote, I would greatly appreciate it.
Much thanks.

Yes. Prunus girl. That's what should be read. It's considered the gold standard of its genre.

Do any of you read Kimi no Iru Machi (aka A Town Where You Live)? What should Haruto do? I hope that he'll pick Yuzuki, but he would break Asuka's heart. so suspenseful!!!
