Inspired by Evan's drive to accomplish what he wants, I've decided I would do something similar. I graduated from college with my Comp Sci major 2 months ago in December and thus far have lost the motivation I had during college.

Today I take the first step in fighting this lethargy. I plan to simply post here in my blog each day and my goal is to be able to have at least one thing I am proud of doing to report each entry. Which would be a huge improvement over my current average of zero.

My rationale for posting here and not just putting this in txt files somewhere is I'd feel some degree of embarrassment or a greater sense of failure if I fail to make my quota of at least one useful thing done per day. Hopefully that sting will be enough to keep me motivated. If anyone wants to help, make sure I feel this sting. If I post with nothing accomplished that day, reply with the harshest criticism you can muster if you wish. I'll probably thank you later.

Anyway, thanks for reading my long winded rant/mission statement and thanks to evanthebouncy for the idea.

Good step forward Phyre. All the best to you. My friend's advice to you, "For starters, stop TALKING, THINKING, or WRITING about your problem and start DOING something. I'm not trying to be glib, but trying to make a point. Mainly, the only way to get things done is to ACT."

I totally understand what your friend is saying. I've been talking about things I wanted to do for weeks or months and I've still taken no action. Knowing what I need to do isn't the problem, it's overcoming my laziness to actually do it.

I'm feeling pretty good though so far. Just finished installing a new DVD drive 5 minutes ago that I've been talking about doing for upwards of 6 months. It's just been sitting in a box up until 5 minutes ago. Now I can get to burning off tons of crap on my comp that I've wanted to backup and delete for months.

overcoming "laziness" starts with a plan.

a simple plan with small measurable steps. kinda like winning a starcraft game. first build scvs - be productive. then take your earnings and build something that makes you even more productive. then go find a fight worth fighting. ^^

i've BEEN there. start with a small goal each day. something measurable and achievable. like send out three resumes a day. then plan your strategy. assess your interview strategy and see what's working and actively find out what you want in your job from each interview. if you have a vision of a career spend some time being productive developing that dream. keep a journal of your thought process and review it. it will show your reflections on the topic and give you insight into your own wants and desires.

making your dreams a reality is the toughest most rewarding job you will ever have. first step is identifying what that dream is from the haze of thoughts, ideas, visions, and other vagueness that floats around in one's own mind.

you can do it Phyre.
in the end StarCraft begins.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice. The small goal thing is already under way too. I've got a list of things to do and my goal is to get at least one thing off that list each day, preferably more. Got one down yesterday that I've been meaning to do for months. With some luck, I can post about success for day 2 at the end of today.
