Vuugo.com presents

What's up guys !

Hope you are all ready for this kickass event, it will all happen on Sunday November 20th, Doors will open at 11:00 A.M this time for more action !

We have been reading every single comment made from the previous event, and here is how it'll work:
Rooms: Due to the large amount of people that we're all expecting for this BarCraft, all three rooms will be open instead of one, to hold up to 1500 people.

Seatings. The blue room will contain a massive amount of seatings for those that will want to sit. We will have an HD projector in that room as well.

Vuugo.com Main Hall. Finally, where world's sickest ambiance lives, the Vuugo.com Main Hall, will have many standing bars, but very few seatings in order to maximize the capacity and keep the same unique ambiance we had previously. Our BarCraft was that crazy because of the good games, but mostly because of our vibe and ambiance. That room will be quite awesome, we've rented a Giant full HD 1080p projector for the screening (see picture[s] below for example). We've also rented CO2 canons to make this event the most epic as possible (See picture below). The 2 screens we had for the last time will still be there, with the walls covered, there won't be any issues with the bricks this time. The Vuugo.com Main Hall will be spectacular.

Evil Geniuses GrandMaster Lair: We are very excited to announce the making of the "GrandMaster Room", that room will have a buffet with fruits & bites, 3 Big HD TVs, Media coverage from a few TV networks, contact with press members & sponsors crew. Tickets for that room will be at 30$, including a free drink. We will have a good amount of seatings in the EG GM Lair. With this ticket you will have access to all 3 rooms. Food will be available in a good quantity, but maybe not enough to fill you up for the entire day. Again, it'll be Fruits, dips, bites & all kinds.
Tickets for the Evil Geniuses GrandMaster Lair are SOLD OUT

Attendies. We are expecting 1000 people+ for this event. On November 20th, we're taking BarCraft & eSports to another entire level.

Food. Food/BBQ will still be available with Hot-Dogs, chips & donuts. We will also have coleslaw, ketchup, mustard & relish. We won't be out of stock this time, really didn't know what to expect last time ! You guys were hungry !

Pictures & Video. Professional photos & video will be done, I've rented a crane as well so the camera goes over people's head in the Main Room. Also got a better webcam so our shout out live on MLG streams look a bit more sexy.

SC2 Drinks. StarCraft Drinks Menu will be re-done, send me all suggestions, what you liked or not, Also, if you do not want ice in your drink, simply request it !

TVs. Will also have a few amount of TVs around the venue in the corridors so you know what's going on in the venue, budget will have an effect on the quantity of those.

Hotels: We have a guy driving down from Chicago, he needed an hotel close to the club, I've a corporate deal at Novotel Hotel, it's 15 seconds away of walk from the club, and I've a price at 125$ for a 2 bed room instead of 175$ in case any '' foreigners '' need a room, email me.

Wait, how do you have time to help organize this AND post ~150 times a day here? You canadians must have some kind of Timestop-ability, Hermionie Granger-style, because you are all over the place :o

I'm going to Providence to watch in person yet I am oddly jealous of the people who are going to Club 1234. Could it be because the last MTL Barcraft was so awesome?!

lol.

The cool thing is that there will be even more players from Quebec to cheer for since iSTaurent will be there and teamless AlexCMoi too.

Will definitely be there again. The only complaint i had from the last one was that there was way too much ice in the drinks. Guess i'll stick to beer if it doesn't change.

Really looking forward to this and hope we can reach 1000 people.

Spread the word to all your friends. For E-sports!

I posted some suggestions in the thread of the old event and I'm glad you listened!!! I will definitely attend this again.

I have 3 questions for this event:

1) Will we have a special price for beer? I felt that 5.50$/beer + tip was a bit high for a Sunday afternoon.

2) I am considering to get the GM ticket and I was wondering if we can get more details on the food this will include. Is there enough food in the GM room, or will we have to go to the BBQ also to eat more? Also, I would be with someone who is vegetarian, will there be things for vegetarian people?

3) Since there will be 4 streams at Providence, is it possible to have the other streams on mute presented somewhere? Also, for the last 3 games...the 2 extra streams will be presented POV of the players (clicks and everything), so it would be nice to have that somewhere for the big final show!!!

Cheers and sick stuff!!!!

My mind is blown. All I can think about is Lafleur's hotdogs... The fact that providence is the biggest MLG of the year is gonna make this a lot more interesting.

Gogo power rang-Montreal! Specifically, our dedicated Barcraft hosts at 1234 :D Maybe throw in another Poll I can click yes on? ^^ PEace

Good thing they aren't streaming Blizzcon Tournament otherwise they'd have idle no streams; for 90% of the Day!

MLG's pretty good with keeping the games coming; especially now with the Quad Streams

Canada in E-Sports is Growing? This is good. hopefully E-Sports becomes much larger and accepted as a spectator sport in Main-Stream.

Lets get Starcraft 2 on TV!

You know what.. if i had to choose, i'll go to this Barcraft instead of attending the MLG in person lol.

And that's not a dig against mlg live events by any means. In fact it's credit to MLG's awesome streams ( quad view, red blue black white, always have something going on, etc)

It's just like the dilemma that real sports are having right now. More people prefer to watch sports from home. Yeah you have to be in person to experience it live. But once you do it, more and more people prefer to stay home at the comfort of their HDTV,sofa, finger food and snacks. Barcraft combines the comfort with the atmosphere. That's even better!

That video is so amazing. The excitement, the passion, the celebration that people would normally assume to come at the conclusion of a major sporting event. More than anything else, I feel like I can show this to friends and family and its something that immediately translates.

What you guys are doing is incredible, I hope your Providence event is a major success.

Thank you ! Here are a few answers to your questions:
1) So far no.. Will try to have you guys some specials up, will keep you posted. Sorry for the prices, but it's the biggest club in the city at the moment, rent is pretty crazy in our area -_-
2) I just added some additional information at the '' 3. '' Hope it answers all of your questions. Hope you're Vegeterian friend will be happy with what we've got, sad truth is, what do vegeterian people eat ?
3) As we'll have manyyyy more Screens & TVs, this will all be possible, and we will be doing it. Will be freacking awesome.

I'm even taking the Hot-Dogs to '' another '' level this time hahaha :D

Lets get Starcraft 2 on TV!

What we're doing on the 20th my friends will open the eyes of many people, all accross North America.. Starts like this, and I wouldn't be suprise to have an eSports channel shortly. Press Press Press.

This may sound like a stupid question but what is it like to be an English speaker in montreal? I'm debating going up there but I want to be prepared, and not act like a stupid American.

I'd learn some french before I came to Quebec, or even montreal for that matter. MTL is known for being bilingual, but its still against the law to demand to be spoken to in english as opposed to french, effectively throwing our bilingual nature in the garbage. Thats not to say you won't get around with only english, but the fact of the matter is when you go to a shop chances are someone is gonna greet you with "Salut" (Hello, Greetings). In all due fairness, my 768 year old grand mother learned french recently. She's pretty fluent when it comes to speaking it too.

The first one was great, but the club ambience made me want to party more than watch sc2 games! (On s'est retrouvé aux Amazones à la fin de la soirée :s)
Anyways, best of luck, I really felt like being a part of something bigger to come, gg azox!

Edit: Me and my friends were actually in the photos sent to MLG (My friend didn't actually went up and gave you the idea of speaking with them?). Do you know if we can have access to those on the MLG VODS?

I'm really psyched for this so I tried to get some media coverage on the subject. Here's the message I sent to canoe.ca (sorry, in French and I'm too lazy to translate, you'll have to use google translate if you're curious)

Bonjour,

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=131832186923320

Merci!

I'd imagine you'd mean against the law then.

Which service in english isnt against the law...

Don't say facepalming statements about language and then say 'forget languages'.

To the dude who asked, you might have some problems with people on the street if you only know english, but you have no trouble in most big stores and whatnot.

Come enjoy 1234

Also, you got sponsored and are selling more expensive tickets, but now it's only a drink for presale tickets?

I know its quite epic to be there and you naturally want the best production value for your event, but please realise that to me, drinks and actual tangible effects on the day of are more important than paying for overhead cameras and such.

Aw man! I missed the last one, and I said I'd absolutely come to this one, but I have my hockey playoffs on Sunday! Nonetheless, I hope you guys make it even more successful this year! It felt amazing to see the Video of everyone going crazy, and it makes me proud to be from Montreal.

Marko keep up the great work! You're making a huge difference for StarCraft & eSPORTS!

Also for the English/French stuff, its really not that bad guys, especially downtown Montreal. If you're not from around here people will still be glad to help you out.. English or French! So get your butts to Montreal and enjoy what will surely be the best BarCraft to date!

Agreed, anyone saying that it's "illegal to speak in English" or some other crap seriously lacks comprehension of the law. The only time the law intervenes is in the fact that an establishment has to offer service in French if the customer requires it.

That's it.

You go to a store to buy something? You don't have to speak French at all as far as anyone's concerned because the owner wants your money so if for some absolutely freak reason the clerk doesn't speak English in Montreal (not sure how could this happen but this is an hypothetical scenario) then they'll find someone who can speak English.

Please stop the French/English debate crap. Our politicians are already doing a pretty good job without our help, no?

As far as barcraft goes- not sure if I can abide by a $30 ticket for an added melon platter... Maybe if you could get a proper T-shirt out there I would think about it. Crossing fingers for stronger drinks this time :p

About the Grandmaster room, I know they're limited, but how many do you plan to sell? Do you want the fill the room with people, or just enough so people there have alot of space to relax, etc.?

Hey I just want to correct both of you. No its not illegal to ask to be spoken in english LoL. And no its not illegal to put signs in english, you just have to put it in french aswell next to it. But honestly the laws arent applied, its like the laws against spitting on the sidewalk that most cities have and no one ever gets a fine for that lol.

But to answer your question, dont be scared 99,99% of ppl below 40YO are either bilingual or native english, rly nothing to worry about!

I know its quite epic to be there and you naturally want the best production value for your event, but please realise that to me, drinks and actual tangible effects on the day of are more important than paying for overhead cameras and such.

I agree with what this guy is saying. I know this event is costing money to produce and what not, but 15$/20$ (door) to get in with a single drink is almost what we pay when we go see a "famous" dj at a club. And just like this event, it includes all the show details: lights, smoke, music, special effects, etc.

I think that the same price for 1 drink only is not good value and people will be thrown off by this. Last time, i paid: 20$ ticket, 2x 5.50$ + tax for 2 extra beers, 4$ of food outside...this is around 36$. Now, it will only be more expensive if I want the same...

I'd set the price to 15$ + 2 drinks again as it makes it much more appealing for people. I am telling you this, because I talked to many people who are a bit more casual fans, but wanted to come. And when I told them the price...they were not sure they were interested anymore. Especially for the people that don't know if they are available at the time and need to buy a ticket at the door.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still go, but to fill the place with 1000 people+, its our job to talk to friends and invite other players that are not aware of this event...simply, the price makes it more difficult to convince these more casual fans :/

just my 2 cents.

I for one am perfectly happy with one drink when purchasing a pre-sale ticket at 15! For twenty, on the other hand...it shows the benefits of calling one of those fancy numbers down there instead of going to the door.

edit: But I really agree that all measures must be taken to make this one better than the last, whatever they may be. Not because the last one was bad, but by reason of showing what this is really all about. What with the media and all.

Its more so a step backwards for the people at the event itself. It makes sense for their business, give away less free stuff, invest that money into better flashy things for their product. I get that. But we're a small community giving this club a huge amount of business at a time when they otherwise would not be open, so I think there should be a bit of give and take toward attendees.

Ok, I think that I've to answer the '' why 1 instead of 2 '' a few asked. On a regular base, drinks are usually 7,50$ at the club, times 2 that makes 15$, so tickets were '' free '' last time if I can say that, it was simply to get a garantee at the bar to cover our fees to go even. Last time the tickets were at 15$, there was no '' room '' to replay play with in order to get a top state of the art production. This club is gigantic and has a tons of stuff to pay for when opening the doors, weither it's a sunday afternoon, or friday night. I did this in order to have a little more room to have.

Every single penny invested in those tickets will go in the event production. Pre-Sale tickets are 15$ instead of 20$ in order to have a garantee, and to avoid having people to cancel/not show up last minute.

That's all, hope you all understand This will be a kickass event, and add-ups such CO2 cost a lotttt of money, but I want to make this epic, and change the face of eSports, starting here on the 20th.

As far as barcraft goes- not sure if I can abide by a $30 ticket for an added melon platter... Maybe if you could get a proper T-shirt out there I would think about it. Crossing fingers for stronger drinks this time :p

No need to buy the 30$ ticket if you don't feel confortable with this, I'm working on T-Shirts at the moment to give away, need to find a proper god damn company that does em ! If anyone knows someone good in MTL pm me asap.

About the Grandmaster room, I know they're limited, but how many do you plan to sell? Do you want the fill the room with people, or just enough so people there have alot of space to relax, etc.?

The GrandMaster Room fits 300 people, we'll only sell around 150 max to keep it confortable and easy going

As said up here, the ticket was practically '' free '' last time, prices won't change and won't be more expensive, working on having some specials and better deals then last time, the only difference is one less drinks, that's all, for a lot more screens, one giant 1080p screens, TVs all over, 3 rooms, seatings, suprises, etc etc... It won't be '' more '' expensive then last time, simply one less free drink then last time to attend world's most crazy barcraft. BTW taxes are included in all the products we sell at the bar.

Oh also,

We have a guy driving down from Chicago, he needed an hotel close to the club, I've a corporate deal at Novotel Hotel, it's 15 seconds away of walk from the club, and I've a price at 125$ for a 2 bed room instead of 175$ in case any '' foreigners '' need a room, email me at marko@1234montreal.com

Take care,

Alright.

As someone who in a restaurant/bar, I get it.

But I also get your expenses for an MLG sunday like last time, are much lower than say a friday night, simply due to less staff needed to work it.

And making any money at all, is better than what you would have coming in on a Sunday afternoon without MLG, which is nothing.

My thoughts are just that since even making a 10$ profit on a sunday afternoon, as well as the tremendous amount of advertisement your club gets from MLG, coupled with the fact that we're a small but supportive community, we'd have a lot of slack cut, be it through 2 free drinks, or cheaper prices in general, you get the point.

I consider myself as a part of this community, I'm a huge fan & player of SC2, and I'm doing the right moves in order to take eSports to another level, and for the growth of BarCrafts all around the world, read the comments from people in other countries, they would give anything to be here.

I understand you want more value for your attendance, but I think what aZoX is saying is that he's doing all he can to make this event as large and accommodating as possible. Obviously those two things do not go hand in hand, so we're gonna find a balance so he can set the stage for future Barcrafts.
As it stands, one drink's difference does not necessarily diminish the value of the experience, especially given that much more is planned than a silly drink you know? Regardless, we are still only at #2 here and there is much time for improvement. If everybody wants two drinks.. then I'm sure it can be possible with a budget cut elsewhere heh

I'm personally working behind the scene with aZoX on this and i must say guys that the cut in 1 drink is really a little bad for a greater good.

Think of it this way. When you will buy that beer instead of getting it free, tell yourself that you are directly helping eSports and help toward legitimising this type of events for barkeepers out there.

Obvously this is #2, we have to make adjustments. As aZoX mentionned earlier, the production value will be through the roof!

And from what i hear, prices will be better anyway

I disagree with the paying instead of free is helping esports but yes, I understand. I'm just being "that guy" so people involved realise that if it comes down to an overhead camera and C02 cannons or an extra free drink for everyone supporting the event, and quad streams, pick the stuff that has a direct effect on the actual customers paying to attend the event, rather than the stuff that makes it look cool to people that are not there.

That's a fair point, we will consider this for next time.
We're expecting bigger and better this time so naturally we wanted to up the ambiance, we upped the number of rooms (renovated!), seatings and quality. That, alone, is an addition to how much is financially being poured into this.

Overall, though, you don't need drinks or anything more than just the killer sound and killer quality of streams and the multiple views. Club1234 is located very close to a lot of fast-food chains and where drinks could be cheaper, without the alcohol (Jean-Coutu is about a block and a 1/2 where you can get a drink).

But in conclusion, I think you make a fair point that we should perhaps orient ourselves to impressing and satisfying those who come more than those who didn't come. But we also want to attract those who didn't come and those looking in so we can get sponsored and have more funds.

It's a tug-of-war that both sides need to consider, but right now, it's a lot of trial and effect. Will these things enhance the experience? Will this turn people off? Be over the top?

It's a balance we have to make. After Providence, there's a bit before the next MLG: let us know what you'd want scrapped, what you thought would be cool and overall feedback. Like last time.

Hope this settles the kettle :3

P.s: Other barcrafts are often in bars or small places, so the restaurants' accommodations aren't beyond their rims or outlines. They can usually handle the people who come to their restaurants.

Since we're about 400 to potentially more, it's very hard to afford the proper staff, screening and everything in addition. With more people comes more expectations as well and so we would like to blow those people away and not simply make it "an outing where we saw some games with friends".

It's cool and all... it's a great thing that a barcraft in MTL is getting so much attention. Really nice for e-sports. But...

20$...? Seriously? It's the price for a spectator pass for the actual MLG... And for the same price, you get 3 days, you get to see the players and drinks are less expensive... how is that not a scam?

You obviously have no clue of what you're talking about, look at the video and how kickass the event it is, Pre-Sale is 15$ between that includes a free drink worth 7,50$, plus you get a sick event, giant HD 1080p screens, kickass crowd, 500 000 watts sound system that's worth 500 000$, and all of that happening at the biggest club in town, what more could you ask for ? People from all around the world are begging to attend the event. It's called eSports. Not everybody can drive down to Providence, and you should respect that instead of calling out '' scams '', you've no clue on how expensive is first to open a place like 1234, and then to bring a huge production.

Sure it is... and like I said, it's great and I would probably go if I could...20$ would not kill me. I just can't help but wonder how that could cost the same than an actual MLG, that's it.

How actually asked "how is that not a scam?"... it's called a question, wich mean I wanted some explanation of why is it that expensive for only the entry fee.

Yes it does look like a great event, and that's cool. But why are you charging an entry fee when, basically, it's not different from any event, except for the screen? I'm sure that, with a thousand of people attending, the event would be beneficial for the club just with the food and drinks.

There's a production value around it... its not some crappy bar with a monitor. If they can make good money out of it, its a good thing for eSports. It will entice others to do the same and then, with more competition and different offers, we will have a better scale of prices. I won't be attending Mtl Barcraft, because it is too expensive for my student budget, but its in no way a scam.

Has far as I know if people are ready to go at 20$ (which is barely an hour worth of work anyway)... why not?? If 20$ is too expensive for you, just don't go or better yet organize something and make it less expensive. But really, I dont see how calling it a scam will ever do any good for the community.

Good luck at the MTL Barcraft people and makes has much money as you can... and do it over and over again... amen! Viva la revolutione

If it's 20$ because it costs a lot to run (i'm seriously sceptical, that's it.) then it's all fine. But if it is to make a lot of money at the expense of the actual MLG... i'm not so sure. Well... if barcraft become a way to make easy money for some guys that run a place, i don't see how it is good for e-sports. 25 000 peoples watching MLG at barcraft is 24 999 less view for MLG stream... Wich mean less money for MLG, therefore less money for e-sports.

I'm not saying that it is indeed the case for sure, i'm just saying that it does look a bit like that.

That's true.

But cinema have to buy the movies, and THAT is expensive. Club 1234 don't have to pay MLG to have the right to stream the event and make money out of it. And Cinema do not charge 7,50 for a single drink.

I'm not screaming "SCAM!", i'm just wondering if it's normal to charge that much...

It's called principle.

Becore Club 1234 barcraft were actually there just to have fun and was free except for drinks.

Now if bar holders start to use that to make a shitload of easy money, MLG, Blizzard, GSL, NASL, etc will start to charge events for rights. And if that happen, that will hurt more that it will help e-sports, since most barcraft throught out the world can't afford that.

If the 20$ is really justified then that's fine, like I said...

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. The last Barcraft was not free and it was 20$ as well and no one was crying about it. Now that Marko had better production value and a better atmosphere, the same price he charged is now outrageously expensive? Last I checked, 1234 is a business and the main goal of a business is to make money.

I didn't meant that before this event Club 1234 was free to entry, but that club 1234 was actually the first barcraft to have that sort of entry fee, and that most barcraft around the world are not charging a dime, but are still making money out of drinks.

If Club start to see barcraft as a way to make a lot of money, it's no good for e-sport. MLG will just start to charge barcraft around the world.

And again, i'm not crying, I was asking for explanation.

Sorry if my english suck.

Hi, I'll chime in and hopefully have you see it our way.

The reason there is an entry fee for Barcraft in this club is because of two things; 1. Because you're asking for it to be in business when it typically is not, this has a cost or a renting charge of using the space for an event. Marko is the manager, not the owner, so he doesn't have totally reign or control of the establishment (he might as well though). It starts at 12 and ends til 9 about. That's just before it cuts in into the club scene.dance/whatever. I don't even know if he remains open after for the party-goers (do they go on Sunday?)

That being said, the reason it costs more is because it accommodates to more people. For regular Barcrafts, they do it in a bar, the establishment doesn't have to do anything extra: just have StarCraft on television and in exchange, everyone there must order a drink or meal or something (ranging from 3 to 9 dollars is my estimate). HD is paid by the Barcraft goers and nothing more is offered.

This is a club, not a bar, and it's happening during off-hours, which means the Club needs to do more for the same thing, even if it lowers it's prospects. Just service alone and a proper screening has a cost more than the Bar who does nothing more but allow a television hooked up a large plasma screen. They get more business with almost no cost.

For the club, they get more business, but it also gets more demand for proper service: drinks are customary for a barcraft and for a club as well. Our surround system is monstrous, but that has a cost too. Nice projectors: it costs too. Setting up starts at 9. So you're paying people for a 12-hour shift after they did a pretty long shift til 3 in the morning (some of them).

Everything costs money, including all the people they're hiring who, probably have worked late last night the night before.

In conclusion, there is no real reason why you have to go to this barcraft and if you dislike the price, you are free to organize your own at a bar or at a school. We're going to organize this Barcraft but keep it fair and maintain the club afloat. For the record, I checked out getting my school's auditorium for a barcraft: seats about 600 people; it's a three figure cost to rent it out.

Hope this helps.

If Club start to see barcraft as a way to make a lot of money, it's no good for e-sport.

The system works like this: Go in debt by upping the value of the event with sparkly stuff, better projectors, sound system, etc. -> Get a return based on a number of goers -> subject money made by money spent -> use rest of the money to up the value for next time + profit.

All businesses look for profit. MLG is a business before it's an event. You're missing the concept that people can make money and host a killer event. You can have two motivations and two intents on an event. If you do everything in your power to make the event the best it can be, a profit is expected by rationale of: "you get what you put in".

I understand the club is opening up during off hours but I was surprised to hear that it had an entrance fee.

Imo, organizing a barcraft should be done because you love starcraft, not because you want to make a profit.

It's fine if you don't read the whole answer, but please don't say something that has already been covered by the post above yours.

It's disrespectful and has everyone else view you as someone lower than who you truly are.

You have to realize that MLG is a vehicle to promoting events, hence all their sponsors. They're not necessarily doing it for competitive gaming's growth, but believe there is an audience or target consumer with the event/business.

This isn't some robbing of kids' allowances. Barcrafts aren't taking advantage of MLG or their viewerbase to turn a petty profit. They're providing a service, an event of its own and it has its cost and price. But a business is a business, you can't deny it, but if the service is good, you're satisfied and you feel the price was deserving to what you experienced; regardless if the club was directly involved, then the pricetag shouldn't be an issue in the overall grand scheme of things.

No?

And if not, we took all the feedback that was suggested and tried to revise for the next barcraft. Which do you think is more important? How much someone made in one event, or the return of the city's people, a good reputation and better namesake for future events?

Torte, does Marko pay you to say this? Cause you're good lol. But all in all, whatever torte de lini is saying is all true and i can say that the manager of the club and the one organizing this event (aZoX aka Marko) is doing it for E-sports and not for the profit. And he has huge ambitions so it's just better for us in the end.

He should pay me in my opinion. I'm only doing it for the heaps of bags of money he stuffs in his basement-dwelling disc-changing from the ceiling office anyways.

I've played 4s with Marko on Stream and watched GSL at the Club. Hope that gives a bit more credibility.

I'd like to chime in a bit. last time we had a good time, amiright? Well Marko being the awesome businessman he is took a risk. A risk that is now known as BarCraft Montreal, a legend amongst this new trend of BarCrafts and things are just starting. Marko saw an opportunity after the first edition to literrally up barcrafts to another level.

And when I say whole new level it is not just a figure of speech! Were literally taking the production value THROUGH THE ROOF! There will be so many new screens, new machines, new cameras and there is also us in the background that will ensure that the event runs smoothly for all of you and provide you with great entertainment! You should see Marko in meetings. The guy is passionate and he will make this as awesome as he can without raising the ticket price.

You gotta also remember what Torte said, this is off-hours. They open the club specificly for us. That is why the staff last time was a bit off, they usually dont open during those hours. Couple the staff with insurance costs and exploitation fees + a mega production + so many new screens, projectors on a day that is normally closed and youre looking at a pretty darn expensive bill! I'm pretty sure that this edition will actually be an investment, those screens wont pay for themselves!

Honestly guys, 15$ aint asking much for such an event literally the most epic nerd event of your life!

The way I see it, a club (or even a bar for that matter) is not gonna hold a special event to sell food and drink if you can view it from that perspective.

From a club owner's view point, an event has to bring in a solid revenue in order for you to want to do it again. Considering this is event number two and the club has Clearly upped the productive budget, I'm glad the ticket price didn't get higher. Of course, that's because this one is gonna be That much more of a success If I did not convince you, then I failed at what I set out to do. Edit: I see I have been ninja'd. Economics aside...

I think you should come with some friends if at all possible ^^ See fer yourself!

Time goes by so slowly o.O I think I'm gonna get an extra gin and tonic. and drink a nice brooskii or two during breaks ! Quite excited, yes. Starcraft hits the spot

ez ez ez ez ez.....

Ok, I don't know how to explain this, Torte made it pretty clear here with clean explanations, but it's really hard to explain until you see all the expenses behind it... People think everything has no cost, and just opening the doors and everything would roll and everything would be fine.. For 1234 it's not the reality, and this event is with no profit intentions, if there are fine, if not, we're fine with that. this event is made for eSports. Let me explain.

Please someone, explain me this. First of all, whoever has '' doubts '' about who I am, I'm a nerd, I love SC2, I love the scene, I love eSports. I do this for the community, I could sit down home on the 20th and make the same paycheck.

I'm probably the only club manager in the entire world to know, love StarCraft as much as I do, and I took massive risks with the first one, MASSIVE risks.

People think it's off business, that it's suppose to have '' less '' fees to run the place. Well guess what, it's actually more expensive. The staff you saw there, you think they're there for free as volunteers for eSports ? No they aren't, and I didn't reclaim the owner a salary for all of this, this is pure fun for me.

We could have set this up in a damn Pub, like everybody else does all around the world. That's ok, but not cool. We're Cool, the genius that came in this world, those Steve Jobs, came with new design, and new thinking, new ideas, and that's what revolutionize the world we live in, people like him. He could have designed a black mac with plastic case, he came with a stainless steel case silver. Took a step ahead, and people followed.

I know about everyone that loves this game, it's a passion, I live it myself, and guess what, I might not be the only one, the GM tickets are selling twice faster then the regulars. Any profit & regular business minded person would have raised the cost after the first barcraft and cut the drinks to 0, seeing the demand that there is, and I'm sure we would still have the same amount, if not more people with that.

It's not me, but I simply can't have a free entrance in order to have all of this running, it's not the reality we live in, and let's be honest here, we weren't close sales wise at the bar to what we are on a regular night, for more hours of business, and I'm really, really fine with that, main goal of this even is to put a smile on everyones face.

Thank god Vuugo came to give a huge kick to the production of this event, it will be awesome, but let's imagine in a perfect world that a few more business like Vuugo would exist and throw, guess what, the ticket would turn to 0$, as it would pay for all. Not there yet, soon we'll be, the 20th will open the eyes of the entire world.

I'm born to do things big, and saw the opportunity here, to make this thing a monster, a fucking gozilla BarCraft.

Let's all have a good time on the 20th, drinks on me.

For eSports <3

aZoX is one of the...

scratch that

aZoX is the hardest BarCraft organizer out there. Putting together even a regular BarCraft is a shit-ton of work, but Marko/aZoX raised what a BarCraft can be to a whole other level. I doubt anyone who been to a BarCraft, especially BarCraft Montreal, will ever want to go back to watching StarCraft at home again.
Thank God and gunrun.

I just want to thank Marko for organising this fucking awesome event. First one ruled, but this looks like it'll blow what's been done last time out of the water.

For those not sure about the entry cost... trust me, it's worth every penny. This is no regular barcraft, it's the king of them all - The next best thing to being right there at MLG.

Could be Team Liquid, cuz Tyler has already shown some love!

Could be Team Reign, cuz theres KiWiKaKi!

Could be Team EG, cuz they saw how much love we gave Idra and HuK during MLG Orlando...

If EG was going to support Montreal in that way, don't you think they'd deserve to be loved?

It's a smart move regardless, the first team to openly announce their support of the Canadian scene is going to be insta-loved by those 1200+ ppl attending on November 20th. Can't wait to see who's making the smart decision. :D

Hey, there's a parking in front at 15$, parking in the street with meters on sundays on Ste-Cathe is FREE, and there's an inside parking at 7$ corner ste-catherine and drummond !

We already sold more online tickets then the last event and we're 2 weeks away ! It's CRAZY.

For Grand Masters tickets there's only about 30 remaining so hurry up ! They should be sold out by Wednesday IMO.

Regular tickets are still awesome !

If you don't mind searching a bit and then walking for 10 minutes afterwards, you can always find parking in the area. Good spots would be next to the Lucien-L'Allier metro in the small roads there or a but further south near Notre-Dame (you should be able to find these areas on Google Map)

If you're lazy then pay the 15 bucks for the parking, I guess it'll depend how you'll feel then.

Hey, as mentionned previously you can request to NOT have ice in your drinks.. like you can request at McDonalds to take off the pickels ! You can also request Doubles ! Vespene gaz is a sweet drink, if you want to get drunk/smashed go for stronger stuff such as cognac, scotch, whisky, that should do it

Exactly it's a pickup at the door the day of the event only for those that buy it online.
All you need is the first and last name used for the transaction + quantity bought.

Just want to give tort props for being very respectful and courteous in responding to people who had questions(that were quite valid) about the price/event.

It's nice to see that people involved in events like this arent the ones who were telling Xalorian to shut up, stop whining and "not go".

Thank Jah for that one!

It's nice to see that people involved in events like this arent the ones who were telling Xalorian to shut up, stop whining and "not go".

Thank Jah for that one!

Thank you.

Hahaha!!! That's such awesome news! EG Sponsoring a Canadian Barcraft, how can they not be considered the smartest most kickass team now... We gave so much love to Idra and HuK during the tournament, this Barcraft is going to be EPIC!

Big props to everyone who came and set the precedent last time and much love to the new people joining us this time, our show of love for the game and e-sports is unprecedented and it only took ONE event for the world to see that. That's just sick, awesome and shows how much Montreal is the place to be for gaming.

Much love to EG also for noticing all this and making sure they're the first to encourage e-Sports in Canada. Not sponsoring a tournament, but a BARCRAFT, is nothing short of amazing on their part. I can't wait for this event and I sincerely hope we get to see the team in a live tournament in Montreal soon, if 1200+ people are massing for a Barcraft, imagine how many would come for a live event! I was a fan of EG in the beginning, now I'm sold for life.

Everyone should thank aZoX, Torte de Lini and everyone at Club 1234 working on this too, hard work made all of this possible and if we do end up with a Canadian MLG it'll be hands down because they pioneered the first kickass Barcraft in Montreal. So thanks Marko and Club 1234 for helping the future of Canadian e-Sports!

Shout out to all the casters and players who hyped Barcraft Montreal: MLG Orlando and are talking about Barcraft Montreal: MLG Providence, they are getting the word out that there's a market here in Quebec and Canada! Notably LiquidTyler, Slasher and JP for talking about it on Twitter, @#*! Slasher and SotG!

Hope to see everyone on November 20th! I'm truly a happy panda right now. I know who I'll be rooting for! :D

BarCraft's relationship with EG has been a long one. It's easy to forget that it's iNcontroL's shoutout during the NASL Finals that launched the movement in the first place.

Congrats on getting sponsored by EG!

About ordering tickets online, I noticed a C$3.21 service fee per ticket on Clubzone. I do no recall seeing that prior to this week, although my memory might be wrong. Is this new? Considering purchasing online means simply mentioning your name at the door to get in, I don't think the Clubzone Policy about service fees should apply ("This fee covers such expenses as ticket processing, merchant fees, shipping and handling, administrative procedures, etc").

Is there also another way besides Clubzone to get pre-sale tickets without having to head over to downtown Montréal? I live on the north shore of the city and won't be able to head downtown prior to the event.

Hey !

You can get them through me or Torte as mentionned in the original post, both of our contact info are there...

I'm also available to deliver in Montreal before going to the club Friday around 9:00pm if you want.

Proud to announce that Razer is joining the forces for BarCraft Montreal.

As a partner, they will give away gears such as Gaming Headset, Hats, Posters & more.
This is another great news for all of us !

With Vuugo, Team Evil Geniuses, Razer & TwitchTV sending us merchandise, I'm pretty confident that about everybody will leave with something !

Hey !
They are indeed all sold, it's a little more then 150, + medias & press, so there will be around 200 peepz in the room. They'll still be able to go up and down though.

I want to chum in on this a bit.

BarCraft is inherently community-driven. If a BarCraft ever "went corporate," it will lose its character and ceased to be a proper BarCraft. However, just because it shouldn't be Corporate doesn't mean BarCraft have to suck! aZoX & Montreal demonstrated that BarCraft can use a little production, and evolve from a good social experience to a great social experience. I doubt Tasteless said "I want to be at Montreal right now" as lip-service.

I talk to a lot of BarCraft organizers, a good majority of them. aZoX is one I communicated with closely, and Montreal model one I watched carefully. I am confident to say that he have the Community interest and expectation first, taking a great career risk in trying BarCraft in Montreal. He is not in BarCraft for the money or to make BarCraft Corporate. I am willing to stake my reputation with the BarCraft community on that belief.

Despite how far the movement have come, BarCraft is still new, barely 4 months old by certain measures. Experimentation like Montreal and Quebec is encouraged and necessary. In the end, none of us know what the fuck we're doing, and we'll never know until we try every worthwhile format out there.

Thank God and gunrun.

Yo guys !

I'm looking for the most korean restaurant in town to do a little after supper with anyone who'll like to join

Korean BBQ would be kickass following the crazy day that will be the 20th.

Any ideas ?

Kanda on St. Catherine has Korean BBQ... but it's Kanda so stuff might not be the best quality. Still, it's all you can eat for about 25 bucks.

I've tried it. The style isn't exactly "korean" as our netizen Korean told us, but it's pretty good. Their quality is as you say not the best. It's decent/ok.

On Sunday it costs typically more though

Can't believe I actually have an Algebra final that day...

At least I was there for the first one (which kicked ass!), and I'll be there for the next!

Maybe you should make a list of possible prizes on the front page. Cause that looks like a lot of stuff. Is it going to be one prize per person? It's gonna be kinda unfair if 1 person can win multiple "big" things (obviously pens and stuff don't count)

Hey everyone, Friday I will be at our weekly StarCraft Concordia University! Selling tickets of course and I welcome all to be there!

The location is H-Building at Concordia's Downtown campus H-423 (Visual image)
Time: Friday, November 18th @ 5:45pm!

There will be a bunch of us guys there just kicking, maybe watching some MLG on Friday (we still until about 8 or so) and then we make a stop to our regular place to eat: Picks!

If you haven't been to Picks, I suggest you try it now! Best burgers around, trumps Buns 10x!

Hey guys, this is Torte de Lini. I was the tired guy always going behind the big screen (brown sweater).

Thanks a lot for attending this event, it was a huge success, great prizes, great crowd, great ambiance and atmosphere. Had the time of my life and to be truly honest: I was ecstatic and happy to see you all have come. Made a lot of new friends (production crew are just awesome, a lot from [LAN] ETS: big hello to them!)!, met up with some old friends (and an even older one from my old high-school, oh shit!) and overall had a blast.

Had a really rushed start (8:00 to 10:00 was just hectic setting up), but the end results was just wild and totally worth it. I'm fucking tired as hell but giggly! Vespene Gas still the best and I can't quite recall the bartender's name, but the one on the right bar-corner made the best version of them all [I tried them all]!

Big thanks to Vuugo.com, if you didn't meet their representatives, you should, they were genuine, great and a pleasure to get acquainted with.

Once again, thanks a lot guys! Interviews and video should be released sometime in the future. Pretty sure Marko has his own thing to say too! Be on the lookout for more Montreal events and stuff (hopefully I can organize or contribute to each of them additionally!)

Cheers!

Once again, it was absolutely amazing!

I don't think I have any critics/suggestions for the next one, everything seemed perfect. The new screen in the main hall was absolutely gorgeous, and the 2nd room with the chairs was also perfect to just sit down and relax. The main hall was thus somewhat less packed but that gave a bit more breathing space and the atmosphere was definitely still there.

Major hats off to everyone involved! ESPORTS QUEBEC FUCK YEA

OMG ! This was so awesome ! Thanks to everyone for being there, thanks to the staff (marko !! <3) for setting up such a great event, thanks to the partners for making it happen and thanks to MLG for making it "protossible".

Barcraft Montréal was obviously the best Barcraft today, and I hope you'll continue organizing amazing stuff like that for upcoming competitions. You're really helping eSports getting as big as it gets !

If Sundance DiGiovanni and all MLG staff don't bring MLG in Montréal next year after they saw us today, I don't understand people anymore... So, see you guys @ next Barcraft Montréal AND @ MLG Montréal 2012 !

I arrived at the event around 3:30pm and stayed until the end. I had a great time! The mood was great, the production was fantastic with a huge screen and multiple rooms full of people. Great event! I left with a Kingston T-Shirt and a fan for my computer and great memory of the crowd reaction to the games. The live shout out to MLG was CRAZY with excitement and the smoke canon were spectacular!

My only complaint is one that is often talked about in Montreal these last few year: The hosts talking on the microphones spoke English 80% of the time. I understand English well enough but being francophone in the greatest city of a francophone province, I felt like a foreign invite. Most people I saw there spoke perfect french and the hosts too for that matter so I feel there is definitely a lack of sensitivity to the french canadian public attending the event.

Great event otherwise!

I believe we alternated between the two. As far as I know, all of us as the crew spoke in french amongst one another, towards the end it was more in english; this is because Vuugo.com giveaway/raffle thing, they're from Ontario and their french isn't too great.

I don't think it was done on purpose, our apologies.

the only complaint i have is abot the CO2 cannon.... way too noisy for the amount of smoke given, and we dont even really need smoke, i thought we were going to die when the noice first started...was a bit awkward

Thank you all for the emails, kind words, PMs and MSGs on Facebook.

As I mentionned previously at the event, none of that would have been possible without you guys.

I can not wait to release all the pictures + our Movie we're producing at the moment of the event.

Their stuff never got to us. I don't know who's fault it is on their side, but delays happen I believe.

Glad Vuugo & EG took good care of us, they were both sharp and on the fun for the sponsorships, awesome people to deal with.

If you still HAVEN'T buy from Vuugo, what are you waiting for !

I actually got to really extensively talk to Vuugo.com and get to know them. Really swell guys who are truly passionate about these sort of events and Montreal as a whole.

Consider them when buying your stuff, they're a great company and website :B

I mean, imagine how tormented they were when their table was between both rooms, but couldn't see the screen. They were almost in tears ):

Hey guys, Concordia University's The Link wrote an article about us! Give them some love, pick up their issue! (yeah there are some errors lol, "turn-based" haha)

edit: fuck, can't believe he quoted the "no friends" part hahahaha, boy do I look like a fuck now ha! (long-story short, CEGEP was my first English school, so I was adjusting in a way and hated everyone there)

double-edit: how did they get the number 3,000 of the Vuugo sponsorship? o_____o I don't even know if that's true.

Oh boy just unbanned.

I was working sunday couldn't attend this one... looked amazing.

People keep on asking me about my "brother" (because we have the same last name) and I keep on telling them that we look nothing alike

But we should have at a least a facebook group with whoever has the balls to admit they like starcraft 2 in concordia. I also have FTP space to upload whatever we need.

Ok, so I missed this Barcraft because I went to Providence. The photos and videos look amazing! Wish I was there in person too.

Just want to share a quick story with the Montreal barcraft scene. After the games on Saturday night, my friend and I decided to idle in front of the door as the venue was closing so that we can catch a glimpse of players / casters who might be exiting. I bumped into Sundance, we shook hands and I told him "great job Sundance!" and then added "How about MLG Montreal next year?". He responded "We're working on something up there" and smiled as he walked away.

Ya, I was there for a bit, spent most of my time in the main room though cause there was no way we were freeing up 8 seats for my coworkers.

hey guys, some people we're talking about the conditions for mlg to come in Montreal.i've seen some people tell em about the 50 % taxe on the prize so i went and di some research and wrote at Regie des alcool, courses et des jeux .I asked them all the alw regarding a professional event this is theyre answer summed up:

Bonjour,

En réponse à votre question, s'il s'agit un tournoi qui s'adresse aux
professionnels alors il ne sera pas considéré comme un concours
publicitaire que l'entreprise doit déclarer à la Régie.

so to translate professional event are not under the juridiction of the regie. the go on further on the point i searched the web for law about professional event on any tournament and found jack shit. SO COME HERE MLG !!!!! HAHA

There's something going on I heard too. They've their own prod crew so it stays in the intern, wouldn't suprise me to see it at Palais des Congrès during next season. If you watch all post MLG SD's interviews there are mentions about adding/removing cities from the pro circuit.
