That said, I agree that choosing handles like hotprincessgrl and posting pictures of yourself all over the community just to fish for praises is okay to be frowned upon. If you think a woman is being "too sensitive" about being sexually harassed, you should check your privilege. Don't know what that means? Go read this. It's an article titled "To My Someday Daughter" written by a member of the Magic: The Gathering pro community. Absolutely everything in that article applies to this community as well. It's long, it has a lot of big words, it will take all of an hour to read. But if you want the Starcraft community to grow and evolve, this is something that HAS. TO. STOP. The biggest thing you need to take away from that article is this: If you are a Heterosexual White Male on this planet, you get treated differently. You get treated better. It's called privilege. You enjoy it every day of your life, without ever realizing it. Women, on the other hand, have to live a life plagued by people treating them differently for absolutely no other reason then they are women. If you start to add anything else different, i.e. sexuality or race, it only gets compounded and worse. This community is about Starcraft, for Starcraft, made of Starcraft players. Starcraft is what matters here. The women of this community have banded together to be able and play Starcraft without their gender constantly coming into question. If a woman chooses to wield her sexuality as a way of spreading the message of Starcraft, that is her prerogative. She should not get crap from this community or any other. Have any of you actually taken the time to get to know the women in this community? Next time you're at a tournament, talk to them. I've had a very long, very awesome conversation with the one and only Anna Prosser, and she is a very bright, very driven women. She works harder then a great deal of the people in this community, yet people still feel the need to crack jokes about her because she is A. a woman and B. the girlfriend of a Progamer. No one is probably going to read any of this, so I don't even know why I bother. Just please, raise your standards for your behavior. We cannot move forward until we do. | ||

Thanks for the link to that article, I'm about halfway through, and it's pretty good. I'm a girl though, so I'm afraid you didn't have to convert me in the first place. :p I've personally hardly ever had any problems with identifying myself as a woman in the gaming community, only once or twice was I greeted with "tits or GTFO", it seems that I've always been playing with gentlemen, heh. But I've seen behaviour like this in many places outside of the gaming community, I believe I read something about a famous female blogger getting death threats from men just because she was a woman. If that's not outrageous then I don't know what is. | ||

Despicable. Just despicable. Seriously TL, we're better than this! Girls are getting into SC2 and wish to find other girls that are into this wonderful game. We should be greeting them with open arms, not accusing them of being sexist, or accusing them of trying to draw attention to themselves. I was also surprised at how many trolling posts went unmoderated. Given TL's reputation for having little toleration for bullshit, I'm a little disappointed in the lack of mod action. | ||
