Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

I've had conversations with my mom before about what she would do if i got in trouble at school, and she said "you can get in trouble at school and ill forgive you, hell, you could have a baby and id forgive you, just don't turn out gay." I can't see myself ever coming out to anyone but constantly lying making me feel terrible. i'm constantly worried someone will find out and tell someone, and can never feel completely open with myself. thanks for listening. Really sorry to hear that. ![]() I don't have a huge amount of experience with that kind of situation, but I'd recommend you to try to find a close friend or maybe some other relative outside of your immidiate family who you could talk to. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm sure others in this thread can. Good luck.

[edit] I just realise I got carried away a bit... My own story might not be of help at all as I got called out and everything went apeshit for me... You might tell someone "outside" of your social sphere, to make your first steps and feel how they take it. I did so too, for some time, I just told kinda unconnected people and practiced to deliver it in a nonchalant tone... Do you have a driving license? I felt it helped a lot to get out of the place and meet strangers from far away. I could train my act and at some point open up to my father, who was kind of how your mother is. I confronted him when I had my first boyfriend. He was pretty shocked and later I heard he had worried conversations with my mom and that he hoped I would still change. But he made the conscious effort to change his attitude. He is now very supporting of me; when I got physically assaulted my first time and somehow found out the name of the perp I had to restrain him from vigilantly avenging me^^ I hope this can give you some hope with your mother.

Hello, You are in a situation that people have experienced before, a few things you should keep in mind: -Work hard, get the education you need so that you can sustain yourself outside of the home in case anything goes wrong. -You can still come back to your family if you treasure them even if you're still not out to them. -Never just come out of the closet because you feel pressured to do so. This is your ties to your relationships and how you feel about telling them the truth should come to be your decision. -You aren't alone and there are people who will support you if you ever need it.

When young people become more tolerant that's all well and good for having friends, but parents, grandparents, bosses, and politicians (the demographics that wield institutional power) still aren't on board and that can cause a lot of problems. The U.S, is up to 60% in that article and it's still not always wise for people to come out of the closet here and almost always causes problems in some area of their lives. S. Korea is sitting down at 39% and the vast majority of that is people who have no power or influence in their society. I'm gonna say it's still completely rational (and maybe even wise) to stay in the closet in Korea. Also wtf France? How on earth is a European country becoming more bigoted?!

Because its going through an economic crises like most of europe and people turn on each other. Its why the National front is now the most popular party in France.

They won a recent election and are highest in national polls right? Also their leader is the most popular of all the leaders, thats what i've read anyway.

I just have to note that hat is a rock solid survey. Usually there are bullshit news opinion polls with huge bias sampling. Simply blown away at the good science in that survey.

IRC has, at times, become a hate-filled, misogynistic, racist hell-hole. I've been chatting in GTL daily for over a year, and I've found that when speaking out against racism. bigotry, or hate-speech, I'm ganged-up on and victimized. Multiple users tell me to shut up or try to silence me. I'm called a "cunt", a "social justice warrior", and worse. I receive some hateful, horrifying PMs (4 minutes of PMs here). (Note: Fighting for social justice is clearly a terrible thing.) I thought about compiling a list of some worst offenders, but it's too much work. There's a lot of crap to sort through. It's difficult to understand without context, and I'll spare readers the painful details. Here's a brief sample of only 5 minutes of chat today. #gteamliquid should be a safe place where people from diverse walks of life can come together and enjoy eachother's company. At present, it's become caustic and simply not safe for me. The chat channel can be a pretty hostile place if the status quo is threatened. I've been the target of so many tone arguments, it's nauseating. It is frightening to see people you consider allies turn on you, or lash out at you for questioning hate-filled comments. I've met some wonderful people, and I'm thankful for that. A few bad apples can spoil the bunch, and I suppose I'm not thick-skinned enough for #gteamliquid, or put another way - not masculine enough. If I had any say in the matter, there would be guidelines discouraging racist/bigoted/homophobic/transphobic/misogynistic comments. Unfortunately, it seems we're a long way off from this. I'm sure it's easy to shrug it off, call it humor, and move along, and I'm pretty confident that's a great way to ensure minimal change. I hope I'm wrong. I don't know about the PMs but the other chat is taken completely out of context, some stuff is worth fighting for but from what I've seen you take off the cuff remarks or jokey comments and then go full warrior mode against them which is very obnoxious and over the top. Yes there is some disgusting comments and yh you should condemn those but you fight even obviously jokey comments all the time. You tell long term members who are widely liked to basically fuck off and try to tell them what they can and can't talk about, you complain about spam and telling people to stop posting links then you create a bot the fills the chat with text these might be reasons why you get comments all though telling you to die is obviously too much.
