The History
So I'm remaking this thread because there was a shockingly high response to a blog of Megalisk's that got bumped which talked about A&M Starcraft, I got a lot of PM's regarding TAMU and our SC/SC2 scene, so this should clarify things for you guys.
When the first CSL started almost a year ago (omg its been only a year since then??? WUH) I decided to create a team for A&M. At the time we looked like this

We have since lost jw232 and picked up our friend CakeOr|)eath (i think thats how you spell it). We also play with a very gosu Korean by the name of SexyMedic but he never wants to hang out ;_;
Also this past CSL Season we were able to make it to the playoffs for the first time to compete for the title of #1 SC TEAM IN USA WOOOO!!! We didn't actually win but hey we did pretty fucking good ^_^
Anyway, we are more than just a CSL team, we're all really good friends. The 5 of us lan'd every weekend for like 2 months during the spring semester and would stay up drinking Mt Dew, eating Hot n Ready's and goldfish, playing Starcraft and watching Pro BW.
What's Happening Now
So if you want to be involved with us you have two choices:
1) You want to play for the CSL Team
Awesome! Realize this is a commitment. Everyone who joins the team will get to the chance to practice with old BW veterans, the whole current team is Diamond division, but I'm sure with practice ANY of you who aren't could get to that level. SC2 is very easy ^_^
So if you'd like to join the team please post the following information in this thread
- Bnet ID with idenifier
- Race
- Current Division and approximate points
- Texas A&M Email (to avoid bots type it like mOnion at gmail dot com)
And I will get back to you with details on when the Season starts, and what we're going to do ^_^
2) You just want to go to hangouts/LANs
Also very cool! Not everyone takes SC as seriously as I do, which is totally cool! We'll still be organizing frequent LANs and hanging out to watch big tournaments like MLG and stuff.
So if you don't want to be competitive but still want to hang out just
- Post in this thread "just for LANs/hangouts/whatever
- An email you can be reached at (again, to avoid bots, post like mOnion at gmail dot com)
And I will add you to the LAN email list and let you know when something's going down.
Finally
The annoying thing is that with SC2 being the biggest thing right now, no one is really going to want to play any BW. Besides the fact there is literally no LAN support, even if there were support, no one has a laptop that can run this game, so getting together to hang out is really difficult.
Hopefully we can figure something out like raiding the SCC and installing SC2 on the computers and playing there or something like that, but until I figure out how to organize something like that most of our hangout's will be to watch live events or play a lil old school BW
So ya! I'm really excited about this year and shocked at how many people were interested in this so hopefully we'll all get to hang out and be fuckin nerdy together!

Would love to play and practice against fellow ags, I don't think I am good enough to play on the team but always want to get better. I am probably better than gold its just I don't play 1v1 ladder that much. I love to watch the pro's play and am always up for 1v1 practice or 2v2s.

If you guys really want to use the SCC to do any sort of organized event, I am probably your best bet unless you know someone else internally at A&M. I work for the CIS department and know most of the full time peeps who could make that happen.
Ill start asking around to see what the idea is on organizing that, I might be able to get a positive response to the whole deal.

I suck pretty bad. I met Frink/CakeorDeath at the midnight release and briefly said hi to you as well mOnion. I have only played 25 1v1 games and played a decent amount of beta, so when I start playing more I think I can compete at around a 500 diamond level pretty well.
I'd love to hang out and play some competitive matches to improve.

I watched the MLG finals with Holy_War today and his duplex would definitely work out for a lan event. It's so helpful having him to practice with when I know him, so it would be pretty awesome if we could do a lan event and get to know each other, hang out once in a while, and practice with each other.
And how was the MLG get together?

It was friggin awesome! We had bw, sc2, super smash bros, and pokemon stadium all goin on ^^ We also got our very own freebirds hookup(mOnion) who managed to get us all free burritos 8D THERE WAS EVEN A GIRL :x

Lately I've been getting pretty serious about the game. I feel like a complete nerd, but whatever, SC is amazing. I watch streams a ton on TL, send replays to other players to be reviewed, and am just starting to really get into the swing of things. For now LANS sound great, but I'm definitely open to trying out for the CSL, although I'd have to hear more details about it. Also, my laptop runs SC2 perfectly fine, so that won't be an issue .

Coming from a high school were I was the only sc player, much less the only person who watched ESPORTS, to be able to chill and play games, and just talk about sc was amazing. Just found this thread while doing my daily TL lurking in WCL. I'm down for LAN's, practice partners. I'm new to the RTS thing, pretty sure I went 2-30 to start out my SC2 career. Been slowly getting up there, currently mid level Plat. I stopped laddering when I hit plat to focus on customs. Been working on my mechanics so I can hit the ground running in Diamond. My roommate will probably post in this thread as well soon. He's mid level Diamond Zerg.

btw I'm torn between meeting for matches it not. if you are portable and playing or not playing at all then I'm sure gathering would be fine, but setups are very important so I don't want someone leaving their desktop to play on some laptop which would seriously affect their performance in game

if u don't get played don't worry, this isn't how things will work every week, just for this match I wanna get a feel for the general skill levels that I'm working with. this season is lasting until may, so there is plenty of time for people to improve and lots of opportunities for play time

yo they way i practice can be extremely effective with us. do custom matches and have everyone who isnt playing watch and we rotate people playing after each match. it is extremely good and adds a bit of pressure which everyone needs, and makes everyone available to learn/ get good timing when watching. it does alot for me and the people i play with. so mon will make a match and invite everyone to obs it and we can all get on vent and talk and spectate people playing and rotate. the matches are good matches and us being on vent we are able to get to know each other and talk about how OP terran is. so i have a vent server we can use, but i really need to start meeting yall. along with i need more people to add me as a friend and pm me b/c i really want to see everyones style. Along with i am trying to make a transition into zerg. after seeing the top 200 players in both america and europe and like 15% of them being zerg i want to make that transition. but mon get some matches together and just invite us all into lobby to play/spectate

In Game voice chat sucks pretty badly. Can only talk to people in party, mic volumes messed up, etc.

I wanted to make sure to invite all of you to come down and participate in UT's very first Starcraft Spectacular -- a large state-wide tournament we're having on Saturday November 20th. We have a bunch of other Universities from around Texas who are planning to come in for the event, too.
If you have a fair showing in the tournament, we'd also like to invite one of your players or spectators to cast with us for matches with A&M players to help give insight into the players and the styles involved.
Finally, I'd also extend to you an opportunity to throw together a quick video documenting Starcraft happenings at A&M. We're trying to generate excitement in the Texas community. What better way than to show off what everyone has accomplished and the people involved with each University?

Completely off topic but I really hope all of you are able to make it to the Nebraska game on Saturday. I know that a lot of starcraft-type gamers aren't really big into football, but this game is shaping up to be the biggest in over a decade at A&M. If you only go to one game your entire time as a student, make it this one. Kyle Field can be very special place
Also, tickets are cheap for students this week, even if you don't have a sports pass. We're trying to break the all-time record for students attending a college football game, and there's a good chance we'll do so.

Hey..I made an account on proboards and I need it to get approved. I'm the sexymedic mentioned in the OP. I was a part of this team when it used to be a BW team and since then I been kinda busy with skool. Anyways I met with Megalisk one time during the summer on BW iccup and he told me to make an account so I hope it's okay. Hey guys. I'm the Admin over at AggieGaming, which we started about a week ago. Since the site is geared toward Ags, I thought I might offer it up as a possible place to HQ the SC2 stuff. I only suggest that because we have lots of Aggie Gamers coming through who might be interested in joining up. So, I'm pretty terrible at SC2 (Bronze League), and I don't play it too much, so at the moment I have no interest in joining the team competitively. However, I do play quite a bit of League of Legends, and I did follow the team's progress in the CSL, and given it is the summer time, I wouldn't mind getting back into SC2.
I was wondering if there was any interest in the formation of an eSports association at TAMU? We've got quite an active Facebook group about LoL, and TAMU also happens to have Scarra, who is a progamer in the LoL scene.
Either way, I think it would be pretty interesting to form an eSports group.

I think a few people are going to the austin tourney, but not too sure. And a few of us will be there during the summer, I for one will be doing 10 week summer classes (going back to cs in 2 weeks), we may even have a LAN if enough people are willing to drive down.

I'm going to be posting this on the tamusc boards as well, but I figured until I got my account approved this would be a good place to start:
Yesterday a friend and I went to Austin to watch the Red Bull Battlegrounds SCII tournament and we got to thinking how great it would be to have an event cast in College Station. I know that TAMU has a pretty active gaming scene and we've already talked with the manager at the Fox and Hound and he's okay with us having a Barcraft there. All we have to do is show that there would be people interesting in attending.
So who would be up for watching the MLG championships at the Fox?
