Hey everyone! This is the first time I am organizing such an event so be nice x_x
WHAT
The GamesCom (biggest Gaming convention in Europe?) will be going on in Cologne from august 19th to 22th. Also this will be the place where the Intel Extrem Masters are held. With so many top players participate and being casted by Day9 I expect this tourment to be great!

Update: I have the restaurant confirmed now! Wow, I have a reservation for 72 poeple now! Please no more reservations for dinner. Im sorry! =( Join us for drinks afterwards! =D

We will have food and drinks at Cafe Especial. It's good mexcian food for a reasonable price and they have a cocktail bar and stuff.
Its only 5-10 mins away from the south entrance to the exhbition halls. (Layout plan)
The restaurant itself can take up to 200 people but it is supposed to be very crowded in the evening so for dinner we will NEED a reservation (see further down). We can't just walk there with 50 people and expect to get seats.
For dinner:
I will stand in a red HWASEUNG jacket on the big stairs of the south entrance at 20:00 and walk over to the restaurant. Meet me there or come to the restaurant yourself at 20:30. The restaurant is booked on the name "Otto".
So I can make a resveration I will need a clear confirmation from everyone that wants to attend up for the dinner! Please send me a PM with your real name, phonenumber and howmany people you are bringing with you if you want to have dinner! (Please don't send me a PM if you are not sure yet, rather post in the thread.) Without a PM I won't count anyone in and can't guarantee for dinner at the restaurant.
For drinking:
Everyone is invited to join us! Most people will stay after the dinner so most of the restaurant is already TL territory at that point. There is a pretty big area outside with tables as well. So space shouldn't be a problem. Happyhour is from 22:30 to 23:30."

IMPORTANT:
The day and time are not set into stone! I want to try to get this meet up going at the best time possible. Please feel free to discuss both things here!
It looks like it will be best to change from saturday to friday. There is going to be a ESL "players party" on saturday. So I am hoping we can get a lot more players attend the meetup when we do it friday.
Looking at the schedule we could actually have the dinner much earilier on friday as the match end on 14:00 already. But people probably want to hang around the exhibitions halls or even arrive on friday evening. The exhibitions halls close at 20:00 and most people we leave at that time around and it can get really crowded. So I suggest meeting outside half an hour later at 20:30 outside the main entrance.
Going to bed now. Hoping for some feedback untill tomorrow. I will update the OP then!

Sounds fantastic. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it, as I am currently in New Zealand, which is rather far way.

i would love to go, TL meetup at wcg 2008 was so much fun. but i won't be able to come, because i will be packing and preparing my girlfriend's and mine trip to paris.
if it wasn't for our stupid cats, it would be no problem, since our train leaves on the 22th in cologne anyway. but these cute little buggers need to be delivered to their holiday home.

Well I was told that the ESL is going to host a party for all players on saturday evening.
I think this will reduce the change of players attending the meetup. I hope a lot will show up on friday though.
Day9 told me he goes whereever the TL folks go. What baller!

I talked to the restaurant and they were very cooperative. They need to know the final number of people coming at least at tuesday. But please guys send me a PM as soon as you know you are coming. I am going to talk to them again on saturday.
Also I updated the OP a bit. The restaurant ist acutally right across the main line tracks from the southentrance. I cant get it to work on google maps but you basically just need to walk straight through the train station.

I think Saturday would be a better date for the Team Liquid gathering.
Many guys, interested not only in the Gamescom
but also the get together, are having problems showing up on Friday.
Though Friday is a working day many interested hardly would miss it
by getting to Cologne not before Saturday.

I *might* show up. Me and some friends have booked a vacation house in Torgau (near Leipzig) and we either leave on Friday or Saturday for that. If we leave on Saturday I'm tempted to come and have them pick me up in Köln.

7mk I reserved at the Ibis in the Centrum of Cologne. 66E per night...There were other hotels in the same range, 166 is way too much :D

166€ inclusive gamescom ticket for four nights.
That comes down to being 34€ per night without gamescom ticket which is almost half as cheap as your hotel. Of course it wont be as comfy etc. but oh well

weather prognosis on wetter.com right now is light rain for wednesday-friday, sunny on saturday sunday.(damnit yesterday the prognosis was better) But temperature never falling below 14°C at night. ~24°C during the day

About the Gamescom Camp:
I can just recommend that camp, i was there last year, it´s got a lot of stuff around that makes it fun even if the weather is not on your side. You can have a breakfast buffet every morning, a gamers lounge with music and stuff, free off charge wifi in the cafe and a pretty nice sports area.
i think its a total of 105 euros for the 4 days. (+30 Euros for Bed if you don´t bring your own tent) thx to 7mk for that info
for the guys speaking german i recommend visiting the german esl page to safe 20 bucks and get the 4 days for 85 euros.

There are lots of other cheap hostels all around the city, and the Gamescom site is at a major train/bus hub, so easy and fast to reach from almost anywhere. Tickets include public transportation afaik.
If you message a hostel just ask how long it takes to get to Messe / trade fair- they will know.

Too bad the meet is at friday. I will be there from around Saturday 1200 CET until Sunday 1700 CET. Would love to meet with peeps still there around that time or maybe go eat on Saturday somewhere as well.

I really wanted to meet up with you guys for the event and dinner but i work late friday. I may make it up saturday. I live in Germany now since the military stationed here. Im looking forward to meeting some local players since im from US and dont know alot of SC players here in germany.

Last year there were only paid T1 WiFi hotspots at the exhibition - you can buy a subscription for a few days if you plan on staying. I managed to leech some free WiFi off of a booth at one point, though, so be on the prowl

Oh man, I definitely want to stop by this, but I don't think I can do dinner. Since I work for Riot Games, I'll be at the SK Gaming Booth, meeting the League of Legends community, and we'll be there with a bunch of guys from Riot. We'll probably do SOMETHING on Friday after the hall closes, but I'll try to stop by for drinks at some point and touch err say hello to some of these luminaries.

First games start at 9:50 CET don't they? Anyway, a friend and I are planning on coming tomorrow. But you need one of those stickers for the "Umweltzones" if you're coming by car right? From what I've read you can get them at petrol stations. But are they needed to get to the gamescom location by car or is it just the inner city?

Nah you won't need one of those stickers when you're just attending the Gamescom. If you want to head into the inner city of Cologne you'll need one or you might get fined. But you're fine if you just head straight to the Gamescom from the motorway.

I have to say something about the NaDa thing.
The problem is he has no personal translator. He has one on the Trade-Fair but the translator is double-booked so he cant join. I tried to find another translator in the Crew-Team but it was impossible. So please please do not be mad with him T_T

it was rad! everyone's such a good time. i took less pictures than i wanted, but i'll make sure to post the ones i did get once i get back to Vancouver.
Some of my friends on here i've known longer than any of my offline friends. It was nice to finally get to know these people in person.
i believe i'm meeting up with some more of them tonight, i can't wait!

The meetup was awesome!
The people I talked to were very friendly. Sadly, there is never enough time to talk to more than a few people at such a meetup. I didnt count everyone but I think there were more than a hundred TL members?!
I took some pics and will post them in a blog or/and in this thread later today. I am still considering to go to the gamescom again today to watch the semifinals but atm I am pretty wasted
