Link to Extension-Page

Released version 0.1.8
- added update msg functionality
- refactored code
- fixed minor bugs
- removed SQTest-Stream Option

Problems with VLC & the new User-Agent hurdle:
For now it seems you have to rely on the solutions mentioned in this thread. I hope to come up with a simpler/cleaner solution, as soon as I have more time on my hands.

Sorry for not responding to this problems the last few days.

Released version 0.1.6
hopefully fixed HQ-Stream-Link for premium account holders
Released version 0.1.5
Minor changes, hoping HQ will work now for season ticket owners. Please provide me with feedback. (I have no way to test it, sorry)

Released version 0.1.4!

In this version you should get a message if you are trying to get the HQ stream without having a premium account.

Also, hopefully for you proud owners of a season ticked, the HQ button should give you now the correct stream link.

If you have installed version 0.1.3, the auto-update function should do the update for you.

Old Patchnotes:
+ Show Spoiler +
So, the update is out.
I just found out that the first version did not have the update function activated. I'm sorry for this misshap, but you have to update manually. Just press the install button on bitsports.com again.

I hope the auto-update function will work for the next Version.
As always, please provide some feedback. (does the autoupdate work and so on ... )

Patch 0.1.3 changelog:
background: dynamic stream quality
background: added auto-update functionality
UI: added 3 buttons, one for each stream

Updated Guide:
+ Show Spoiler +
Go to: bitsports.com and install it. After that, whenever you visit gomtv.net you'll have a bar at the top that ether tells you to log in, when the next stream will be, or give you the 3 buttons to choose the stream quality.

After clicking the right one for you, and a short time of "loading ...", you'll get the stream-link according to your choice.

Now just right-click the LINK, and press "Copy Link Address".

Open VLC, click "File", "Open Network ..." and paste the copied address in. Click "Open"!

Initial Post: (for more information)
+ Show Spoiler +
Hi!

This is my first post on TL.net and english is not my native language, so please forgive me any errors.

The HOW:
+ Show Spoiler +
Go to: bitsports.com and install it. After that, whenever you visit gomtv.net you'll have a bar at the top that ether tells you to log in, when the next stream will be, or give you the Stream-Link.

When a stream is available, just right-click the LINK, press "Copy Link Address".

Open VLC, click "File", "Open Network ..." and paste the copied address in. Click "Open"!

The WHY:
+ Show Spoiler +
Most of the time, when I'm online, I'm on Linux or Mac OS X ... so no GomTV-Player.

In the first season of GSL, I've seen a thread on how to watch it on VLC, but it needed some manual steps to get/generate the Stream-Link so it would work via VLC. I then thought to my self, how about a Chrome Extension that does this for me.

I did that (Browser Action Extension, the button thing on the right with a pop-up), and it worked, it was pretty too. After some time I thought of distributing it, but never came around to do it.

But finally the time has come where I wanna share it with you, but came to the conclusion that a content script would be better. It's just more simple and clean, no clutter.

Last:
I hope that some of you will test it, and provide me with some feedback, so I can fix bugs / enhance the extension.

I hope I can make some of you happy with this Extension. I'm open for any suggestions!

Also, the Extension is not in the Google Store, because I do not own a credit card. To publish a free extension, you need to have a developer account, which costs 5$ and is only payable by credit card.

PS: Love the TL.net community

+ Show Spoiler +
__UPDATE__:
For all who wanna watch the HQ-Stream, I'm working on releasing an update for later today, to give you all 3 options (SQTest, SQ, HQ).

For now you'll only get the SQTest-Stream-Link (which in my experience was the most stable for now).

But it would be also good to know if you have any problems with the extension in general, so i can fix them before the next cast

For example: Check if the displayed Date and Time of the next Stream is displayed correctly, also if the timezone is yours.

I don´t know if gomtv will like it, but it is def nice for us

I have a small bug, it says: (german)
Mitteleuropische Zeit
instead of the "" there should be a "ä", so it probably can´t show ä, ö, ü
maybe it´s only a problem for me? everything else is fine

GOM can still track the number of viewers if people are using VLC, they just get less people knowing about GOM player.

Considering GOM Player does not work on as many systems as VLC, they have no reason to complain.

Does this have the possibility of everyone getting the same server and making it lag for everyone? If so, you ought to remove this, load balancing is there for a reason :b

No, always a different server. I'm essentially using the same information the GomTV player gets.

It's not a re-stream, or something like that. It is the exact same connection the GomTV-Player would use. So there shouldn't be any problems.

This is the first version, for now it will only give you the link for the SQ-Stream. But it wouldn't be too hard (very easy in fact) to add the HQ-Link. But I'm not sure how to implement it UI wise.

I could display both for every one, and the HQ one would only work for those with a premium account.

I'd need to find a way to check for premium, if it should display it according to your account, but that would probably require me to have a premium account for testing (which i don't have).
But I'll look into that.

Thank you for your feedback!

Edit:

Does anybody know if there is any difference on the page itself (for which I could check), if you have a premium account compared to a standard account?

Alternatively, you could use this link with your GOMTV account. Once you put in the account information and choose SQ/HQ, depending on your paid/unpaid status for the current season, it generates a link for you to put into the Open Network box in VLC Player, just like this extension.

Obviously, those of you that do not use Chrome will want to use this instead.

For some reason it doesn't work for me. I get this error:

Ok, so it seems to be a problem on the side of gomtv, no problem with the link or vlc.
They do give us 3 Stream SQTest, SQ and HQ ... For now the Extension is providing you with the SQTest-Stream link.

So it would be possible that you can watch it on the gomtvplayer (SQ) but nocht VLC (SQTest) if the stream fails.

Im working on giving you all 3 options. I chose SQTest for now, because to me it seemed more stable than SQ.

I hope to release an update today, then we will also see if the auto-update function will work

No, in the upcomming release you'll get a stream link for HQ, but it won't work if the account you are logged in is not a premium account.

For now I don't know how to check for premium account, because I don't own one myself. As soon as I know how to do that, I'll only give you the stream links according to your account status.

Released a new version (0.1.4) which hopefully fixes the HQ-Stream-Link and gives feedback to non-season-ticked-owners.

More info at the first post. Auto-update function should do the trick for you. No manual updating needed if you are on 0.1.3!

Do you own a standard or premium account?
It could be, that one of the streams has problems, but if you have a premium account, please give me more info, because I have no way to test it.

Doesn't seem to work on my mac, the url is always just gomtv.net other than the SQ Test link. I am logged in on my premium account.

i have the same problem, i own a premium account but when i try to get a link for the HQ stream i get the "No Premium, try the SQ-Stream" message. i'm watching the HQ stream on the gomplayer at the moment so there is no problem with the stream. hope this helps and thanks for your hard work.

If you could provide me with the generated link, that would be really helpful, just replace the key=xxxxx part (best pm me)

Thank you. Was able to watch live for the first time last night due to this extension. Worked like a charm. Being unable to use the GOM player was one of the few drawbacks of having all macs in my house.

I've made a new Extension just for this purpose. It gathers the same data, which is needed to generate the stream link vor VLC, but sends it to my server for analysing.

http://bitsports.com/gomtvgatherinfo/

The only data which would be sensitive is the personalized streamlink. If you don't trust me with this link, just don't install/use it. But if you trust me with it, it would help improving the GomTV for VLC extension.

Released version 0.1.6
hopefully fixed HQ-Stream-Link for premium account holders

Thanks to the people who used GomTV Gather Info for me to have more debug info.
If HQ-Stream works now, it's due to their data!

As always, provide me with feedback if it works, please.

Just out of curiosity, does this take away from GOM in any way? For example, does this still count towards their viewers that potential sponsors see? I know it definitely hurts them in that they aren't forcing people to install the GOM Player, which is huge... But this is a good fix for OS X users.

It is the same connection as used by the GOM Player, so the should have no problems with counting the viewers correctly.

I made it specifically for Mac/Linux users, because I am one of them, and just thought to share it with others.

I do want to help the GSL out, not hurt them. They also have now potentially more buyers of season tickets (Linux/Mac-Users).

Yeah, just wanted to check to see if you or anyone knew. Sometimes when I'm on OS X when I'm away from home I'd like to use this, but only if you viewers are still counted.

I used your extension today viewing HQ and it worked flawlessly.

The only negative thing is that the "extension bar" is always showing whenever I'm on gomtv.net.

Didn't work today for the Losira v Supernova code a final. Did it manually, then got the right address. My address had the port 8800, the extension got 8900. Perhaps that was the problem. Thanx for your effort.

riVn you are a fine fine gentleman. I finally got it working for the Losira x Supernova match after trying for so long. I trusted that it was working so much that I purposely reopened the link for further testing. It didn't work anymore :/ and it's 3-3 right now going into the 7th game. Good work, even though I didn't get why it worked so well at first and stopped when I reopened the link.

Would you consider please removing the requirement to be logged in to gomtv.net in order to generate the SQTest VLC link? Ironically, I have problems with GOMtv needing to reverify my account every few days when I visit using Chrome, so I have to open up Firefox, log in, resend the verification link, open email, click in Firefox, close everything, then open up Chrome again, and then login to GOMtv in order to use the extension.

I figured out an odd way to actually get VLC to open the HQ stream.
I use the standard ways to get the GSL stream link, and pasted it in Chrome(Instead of VLC!) and pressed enter. Chrome now "downloads" the file - it's actually downloading the stream to your hard drive. I expect it downloads as long as the stream is live.
I then had VLC open the view.cgi.crdownload file - works just like it used to! When you're done watching, close VLC and cancel the download in Chrome.

Hopefully that works for all my fellow Mac users

this worked for me. i got the link address using the chrome extension, then used chrome to download the link, then vlc to open the resulting download file. just pasting the link from chrome + the extension into vlc didn't work

thanks a lot for the guide! without everyone posting these awesome alternative ways for mac and linux, i'd never be able to watch gsl live. not even sc2 could lure me onto a windows box. thanks!

I'd love if the actually spent time on developing a Mac player instead of spending all their time on making alternative ways of watching the games impossible. Sad.

Apparently they are blocking the VLC User Agent now.

If you want to do the chrome trick in Firefox or Safari just change your User Agent to GomPlayer (Google for how to do that), paste the VLC link into your browser and play the .cgi file it's downloading. Works like a charm in Safari here.

I got the extension form chrome
Changed the user agent in Safari to -> "GomPlayer 2, 1, 17, 4710 (ENG)"
Pasted the url in Safari after I changed UA
Does not work - so I guess my UA from GOM is wrong.

Oh my i got it to work!! Here's what I did using firefox:

I found out how to switch the user agent at these websites

http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/help/
http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2004/04/24/changinguseragent.html

When in the list of random 'stuff' in the 'about.config' menu, i searched for gom, and found two entries one of which is the add on. I switched both user agents to "GomPlayer"

Then I tried opening the stream the way I always do, just by clicking the Gom streaming link.... when I got the error that began to show up this morning, I clicked "show details" and found the link to the stream in the details.

Then I just copy pasted the link in firefox browser... then it asked me to save the file. so i did.... then i went to downloads and clicked 'show in finder' (or something like that).

Then, and this is important. I found a DIFFERENT file very similar to it, and tried opening it with VLC. The actual file that is downloading did not work in VLC, but a mysterious similar file that simultaneously downloaded (not in a streaming-like fashion) DID work in VLC and te stream went live instantly.

Hope this helps anyone because it took me a bit of figuring out and it was complex. I probably took some unnecessary steps in between but this is what worked so here it is.

I got it!

On Mac: open Terminal.app (it should be in Applications/Utilities).

Type this in [CORRECTED]:

/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC --http-user-agent KPeerClient

Punch in your link as usual. It works, it works! Hallelujah!

This works. You might need a few tries before it actually connects though. However, the stream seems to be down for everyone regardless of player right now.

Your input can't be opened
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://38.108.112.119:8900/view.cgi?hid=1&cid=20806&nid=900&uno=8678400&title=&key=BLABLABLABALBLABLA'. Check the log for details.

I don't manage to make this work on windows, I launch VLC with
vlc --http-user-agent KPeerClient
Then open network stream then I paste the URL I got with the chrome extension, but it gives me an error message (it's not GOM because I have the GOM player opened, and this works)
Any idea ?

Sorry that I respond so late to the recent developments.
I was not at home/ had no time this past days.

I'll look into better solutions, to make it easier for all of us to enjoy and support GomTV. I too do not understand their reasoning.

What works for me is getting the VLC link as usual, changing the user agent in Safari to "GomPlayer", pasting the url, it starts the .cgi file download, I play the .cgi file in VLC.

So, just "GomPlayer" and not "GomPlayer 2, 1, 17, 4710 (ENG)" as UA?

I got it to work. Here's how I did it:

1. Login to GOMTV.net
2. Copy this URL explained here: http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/f98an/gsl_2011_season_1_updown_matches_day_3_starts_in/c1e8z41 Update: Xax explains this good: "Copy the Javascript into the address line of your browser and a popup with the VLC link should come up, you put this into your address line but before change your User Agent using the Youtube video."
3. Use Safari and change User Agent to GomPlayer - Here's how you do it.

4. Paste the URL you got from the Reddit URL above and you will start downloading a view.cgi file.
5. Let it download (don't stop it) and then open your download folder.
6. Here you will find a file called view.cgi.download.
7. Open this file in VLC.
8. Success! (For me at least)

The best way to describe it (for mac) is to do everything you did before to get your link, but instead of pasting the link into VLC you paste it into a Safari browser that has the user agent "GomPlayer".

Copy the Javascript into the address line of your browser and a popup with the VLC link should come up, you put this into your address line but before change your User Agent using the Youtube video.

I did that, simply does not prompt med with a .cgi download. This is what i did:

1. Changed User Agent to "GomPlayer"
2. Logged into GOMtv.net
3. Pasted "javascriptfunction(q){src=live.play.toString().match(/var goxUrl\s+=\s+([^;]+)/)[1].match(/([^'"]+)/g);xhr=$.get(src[0]+q+src[2]+live.title,function(){$('#chHeadimg').css('background','url(/imgdata/20112.jpg) no-repeat').html('').append($('<div/>').css({background:'rgba(255,192,92,0.8)',height:'100%',padding:'10px 0',textShadow:'2px 2px 2px #ddd, -1px -1px 1px #a92'}).html('<h1>For the mplayer master race</h1><br/><h2><a href="'+decodeURIComponent(xhr.responseText.match(/LiveAddr=([^"]+)/)[1])+'">you know what to do.</a></h2><p></p>'))})})('SQTest')" into my safari browser?
4. Nothing happens.

You can also get the link using the Chrome plugin... you know, the one this whole thread is about.

use the chrome plugin in the OP or this: http://mystarcraft2clan.com/blog/permanent-gomtv-live-vlc-link to get the VLC link

then change your User Agent following the Youtube video that was posted on page 7

then paste the url into your browser

play the .cgi file

Is this supposed to work for the Free SQ version?

I did follow the instructions pasted by SilverFox, and here are the results:

1. sure i am logged in, using any browser i like, so lets say Safari.
2. I get this javascript bit from the reddit link you posted:
javascript:Live.prototype.addGox=function(a,b){x(b);};live.play('SQTest');function x(a){var r;x=new XMLHttpRequest();x.open('GET',a,false);x.send(null);if(x.status==200){r=x.responseText;}var m=r.match(/href="(.+)"/i);var l=decodeURIComponent(m[1]);prompt('VLC SQTest',l.replace(new RegExp('&amp;', 'g'),'&'));}

Note that I changed the HQ to be SQTest

From the popup dialog, i get this URL:
gomp2p://ID=GOMTVSTREAMERLIVE CLASS=GomTVStreamerLive PARAM=/hide &quot;http://127.0.0.1:53535/live.acm?CID=GL_20110315_800_20806_3&LiveAddr=http://38.108.112.135:8800/view.cgi?hid=1&cid=20806&nid=800&uno=18373100&uip=24.82.164.224&title=2nd+Generation+Intel%28R%29+Core%28TM%29+GSL+Mar.+Up%2FDown&key=<alphanumeric_key>&Format=OGM&SecSize=90112&FixedHeader=TRUE&PosInData=TRUE&quot;

3. i change my user agent to GomPlayer
4a. if i use the gomp2p:// URL, I get an error saying Safari can’t open the specified address.
4b. if i strip the header part until LiveAddr= I get a workable URL
http://38.108.112.135:8800/view.cgi?hid=1&cid=20806&nid=800&uno=18373100&uip=24.82.164.224&title=2nd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) GSL Mar. Up/Down&key=<alphanumeric_key>&Format=OGM&SecSize=90112&FixedHeader=TRUE&PosInData=TRUE&quot;

however, that simply doesnt load the view.cgi. there is no step 4 onward, here.
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “http://38.108.112.135:8800/view.cgi?hid=1&cid=20806&nid=800&uno=18373100&uip=24.82.164.224&title=2nd+Generation+Intel%28R%29+Core%28TM%29+GSL+Mar.+Up%2FDown&key=<alphanumeric_key>&Format=OGM&SecSize=90112&FixedHeader=TRUE&PosInData=TRUE&quot;” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again

Anyone has an idea what to do next?

1. Open safari
2. Login in with your account on gomtv.net
3. on new tab go here: http://mystarcraft2clan.com/blog/permanent-gomtv-live-vlc-link, generate link with account that you logged in, copy that link
4. in safari go: safari->preferences->adanvce tab, check checkbox with programming menu or something like that. Close preferences
5. new menu should be added "programming or so" (sorry I won't get you that 100% correctly cuz I use polish version of Mac OS X and I'm translating it on the fly)
6. Choose user agent, other, paste this text: KPeerClient
7. Paste link from 3 on your tab
8. You should get a downloading started. Don't cancel it! Let it continue
9. Open VLC, open a downloading file (cgi type). Enjoy your stream!

8. You should get a downloading started. Don't cancel it! Let it continue
9. Open VLC, open a downloading file (cgi type). Enjoy your stream!

This also works for chrome, but the only thing you need to do is boot up Chrome with [--user-agent="KPeerClient"]
Riddle me this ..

Yeah, working for me too. I'm just downloading the stream via wget.

wget -U KPeerClient $LINK

Might try and work this into GOMstreamer in the weekend. Hopefully a more... usable solution becomes available soon.

Hi, this isnt working for me. When I paste the link into the browser and I should get the download, this is what I get.

My OsX is in Spanish but its basically says that safari cant open the page because it has suddenly lost the connection to the server. This might happen when the server is overloaded. Wair a few minutes and try again.

Any idea? Thanks!

Try Safari if you can. Go to Preferences, Advanced, click Show Development option, then under the new Development tab you can change your user agent to KPeerClient. Then put the link in the url and it should start downloading.

There was a post in the other thread about how to run Gom Player on Linux using Wine, I'll link it here. The guy that posted it said it worked for him; I'm on Mac so I can't confirm - I can install and open Gom with Wine, but when I try to run the stream it crashes. Give this a try, though - using GomPlayer itself seems like the safest solution since they won't shut it down. Hope it helps.

Thread
Guide
+ Show Spoiler +

Open Terminal, you'll be entering all the commands in the quotes.

First, we need to install Wine

sudo apt-get -y install wine

Then, we need to install the GOM Player

cd ~/Downloads
wget http://software-files-l.cnet.com/s/software/11/65/48/99/GOMPLAYERENSETUP.EXE?e=1300194368&h=e9d31d08ccd13b621b106b23b9670b17&lop=link&ptype=1901&ontid=13632&siteId=4&edId=3&spi=c7500b638ecf8cecf7ecffcb98150797&pid=11654899&psid=10551786&fileName=GOMPLAYERENSETUP.EXE
chmod +x GOMPLAYERENSETUP.EXE
wine ./GOMEPLAYERENSETUP.EXE

Then, we need to add video/audio dependencies to make sure GOM Player works

wget http://winetricks.org/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
sh winetricks d3dx9 d3dx9_28 d3dx9_36 d3dx10 d3dxof devenum dinput8 dirac directmusic directplay directx9 divx dsound ffdshow quartz xvid

And finally we need to create a wrapper and URI handler for Firefox/whateverbrowser to understand that we want GOM Player to open the stream.

sudo echo '#!/bin/sh/' > /usr/bin/gomplayer
sudo echo 'exec wine "C:\\Program Files\\GRETECH\\GomPlayer\\GOM.exe" "$@"' > /usr/bin/gomplayer
gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/gomcmd/command '/usr/bin/gomplayer "%s"'
gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/gomcmd/enabled true
gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/gomcmd/need-terminal true

That's it!

During this process the main GOM Player installer window will appear as well as a few other installers. Follow the setup process as you would normally do on a windows computer. There should be no video or sound issues encountered.

I had to exchange some commands and using the latest wine version from the PPAs helped a lot.
I'll write a summary on how i did it after i fix some minor bugs..

Actually it is in beta, I've got it installed now. It looks and performs exactly like the windows version however when you click the view live thing it still says it's not available for your operating system.

However a few months back when they had the gisado challenge I could watch it through the beta gomplayer by clicking the view live link... Not sure what's going on but every couple of days I open it and they're releasing like 2 updates a week for it so that leads me to believe that it's coming pretty soon!

The beta gomplayer is only public on gomtv.com, it shouldn't be hard to find (google translate the page)

Working on OSX:

1. Open Safari
2. in safari go: "Safari->Preferences->Advanced", check "Show Develop menu in menu bar'
3. close preferences. go to "Develop->User Agent->Other..."
4. enter "KPeerClient"
5. go to http://mystarcraft2clan.com/blog/permanent-gomtv-live-vlc-link enter your gom email/password and enter the resulting URL into Safari (make sure it's the same window you changed the User Agent in)
6. A download will start called "view.cgi". Keep this running
7. Run VLC, Open the file "view.cgi" which should be in your downloads folder.

This is 100% not working for me. Safari returns a message saying the server unexpectedly dropped the connection.

edit: I got it working. Make sure you stay in the same window the entire time after changing the User Agent. Thanks!

OK, I got it working. Changing the User Agent only works for that specific window. Make sure you get the link from http://mystarcraft2clan.com/blog/permanent-gomtv-live-vlc-link in the same window that you change the user agent, as well as entering the URL you get from there into the same page.

Thanks alot starhammer!

Install the chrome extension, go to the GOMTv page, click HQ then the link. You'll download view.cgi.

Open it with VLC and it should work.

I managed to get it to work for me (on windows), but it's rather inconsistent.

This method involves changing the VLC user agent to KPeerClient, which can either be done via the gui as so:

or via the command line by starting VLC with this command line option:
+ Show Spoiler +
--http-user-agent=KPeerClient

After that, you try to open the stream normally (Open Network Stream and paste your stream link).
It probably won't work (it will give you the old MRL error), but after repeated attempts it will eventually go through.

I have no idea why it sometimes opens and sometimes fails. My guess is that either GOM simply changed their software over the past week or so without actually trying to stop or even paying any mind to third party streaming, resulting in these VLC shenanigans, or that whatever process they're using to block VLC streaming only works about half the time, even when you try doing the exact same thing to circumvent it in both cases (which from a programming standpoint makes no sense whatsoever).

Now, if you're trying to save the stream to a file that you can watch later, I recommend that you practice beforehand with some other stream because the process to do so is more lengthy than simply watching the stream, and repeatedly trying (and failing) to get the stream converted and piped to a file will become very frustrating given the fact that VLC will only be able to start streaming successfully about half the time.

Seeing as I was the only one having success with the method I just posted, I'm starting to think the only reason I'm getting it to work (and it only working occasionally) was that someone else in my dorm was also streaming GSL (very likely given my dorm) and that GOM's side, already having a "normal" stream going, would send packets to our router, which sent them both to me and the other guy (just a theory, probably not right).

So, I've established that my previous method does not work...

However, I just devised a way to get it to work 100% of the time, and on all operating systems.

It involves using curl. It is a very common utility that is usually installed by default on many Linux distributions, so if you have Linux, it may already be installed.

If not (or if you are on a different operating system), just download it from the site: http://curl.haxx.se/download.html

Ok, first get your stream URL via http://mystarcraft2clan.com/blog/permanent-gomtv-live-vlc-link or some other method of your choice.

Next, open a command line or terminal window and run this command (windows users need to run this command in the same folder where they extracted curl.exe):
+ Show Spoiler +
curl -A "KPeerClient" "*your stream URL*" > stream

(obviously replacing *your stream URL* with the URL you got earlier)

At this point, you'll see a file called stream in the folder you happened to be in when you ran that. It contains the raw data from the steam and as such it constantly growing in size.

Opening steam in VLC as a file will allow you to watch the GSL.

As an extra bonus, the stream is essentially saved to your computer as a result of this method (the stream file that we piped the curl output into), so once the stream is over, you can open the file up in VLC again and have VLC convert it into and .mp4 or whatever. After you do that, you can delete the old stream file.

I'll try to make this a bit more coherent when i get the time and maybe include pictures too (also probably shouldn't have called the file stream - it might be confusing since I also talk about the GSL stream itself).
I will also probably write some kind of perl script or something to do this all automatically soon.

Success!! That's incredible! I was using GomPlayer as the agent because that's what this forum had said to do so... but this worked!

Can confirm this works with the latest version of Snow Leopard 10.6.7 as well. Awesome workaround to be able to view GSL on the Mac using VLC! Thanks.

I am trying to help a friend with his mac, what is the current workaround to watch live? He has chrome extension and VLC. It is just hard to navigate in this thread if there is a current workaround for the GSTL.

You have to use a user agent switcher (i'm using a firefox addon) and then follow steps described by starhammer.

Ok so it doesn't work again. Worked before but now the view.cgi won't download. Maybe the user agent changed again??

I tried this. As per my previous post, it seems it isn't working. Perhaps KPeerClient is wrong. Why would Gom want to stop mac users from watching GSL? It's free SQ anyways... very confusing.

The problem seem to be that they have removed the SQTest stream and merged it with the regular SQ. That in turn leads to a problem with the mystarcraft2clan.com service because that form only supports either HQ or SQTest.

I have managed to get it to work with User Agent KPeerClient in Safari and then using one of the previous solutions by checking the source and manually hitting the webaddress in the browser, but by specifying SQ instead of SQTest

That worked for me. Thx A lot.

For others, just get the chrome extension for gomplayer. This will give the SQ test option, from that use the link for the KPeerClient method.

It certainly seems as if many of the available ways to watch GomTV's streams on Mac/Linux have been blocked or "fixed" once again, so I believe we are many who are left out in the cold during GSL World Championship...

Does anyone know of a way that currently works? :S It seems there are a few people who managed to get streams into VLC but the cross-referencing to this and that post and this way or that way makes it pretty hard to grasp. I've searched, but this is apparently the most recent thread.

Okey, an elaboration from my earlier post. This is a combination of different earlier guides that I remember but can't find and link to.

1. Log in to GomTV.net and press the Go Live button.
2. View the source of the page and search for goxurl
3. Copy the web address you see starting from http right up till &title and replace the playtype with SQ
4. You should end up with something like this: http://www.gomtv.net/gox/gox.gom?leagueid=99999&strLevel=SQ&target=freeLive&mb_no=9999999999999999
5. Paste the web address you got previously into the browser and you should come to another page which says GOMTV.NET (c)....
6. View the source here and copy the web address you see after LiveAddress=
7. Go to http://www.linkedresources.com/tools/unescaper_v0.2b1.html and unescape the address you pasted.
8. In Safari, change the User Agent to KPeerClient and paste in the web address you saw after LiveAddress.
9. A file should then be downloaded which you can open in VLC

Many thanks, good sir! Works like a charm!
Let's hope this door stays open for a while, or even better... that GOMTV actually let Mac and Linux-users actually Go Live! with ordinary means.

After a quick Google search I've found that you actually can change the user agent of VLC. Preferences -> Access Modules -> HTTP(S) -> HTTP user agent. Should be able to just open the link with VLC after changing that to KPeerClient yeah?

For chrome instead of safari:
8. Change your chrome shortcut or copy+paste to duplicate it and add --user-agent="KPeerClient" after the target file. This opens Chrome with the new useragent. For me it is:
C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --user-agent="KPeerClient"
Close your current Chrome session and then open it using the new shortcut.
9.) Go to the folder of your downloads (or view.cgi > show in folder) and open the partially downloaded view.cgi file. (yeah 9. same as for safari basically)

When it says it cannot connect to localserver, it is almost always because the web address you see in step 6 of my instruction does not contain any IP address at the beginning. If you see it beginning like this http%3a//%2Fview.cgi it is NOT correct.

If this happens, make an extra check of the playtype you specified in step 3 and compare it to my example in step 4.

If that don't help, I'm not sure...

Just tried the instructions right now and it still works for me on my Macbook Pro. Step 6 is really easy to goof up. Make sure you look for the part after the LiveAddress.

Updated version works great! Was not able to get the HQ stream to work though - is this specific to World Championship? HQ worked with the past GSL and GSTL seasons (I had season passes for both)

It could be that this is only because of the World Championship, but it could also mean they changed something permanently. I couldn't say, especially because I have no pass, and can not afford one.

But what you could do, is to use the gomtv gather info extension, so that I have data to look at, to find out what the problem could be

Will gladly - although the World Championship is free (and that includes HQ stream) so I imagine they may have changed something... not sure!

Yes, it's still possible with VLC. But since the World Championship (which was free) is over, the free stream channel is back to being called SQTest. So it is still possible by following the instructions on http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=197195&currentpage=12#228 but use SQTest instead of SQ

Heh nevermind. Re-read the GomStreamer website and realized the that "Play" method is broken, and to just use the "Save" option and open that with VLC. My fault for not reading the instructions correctly the first time.

Your extension pulls the same URL as GomStreamer, but it doesn't load in VLC, so i think it's a GomTV issue.
With no power comes no responsibility?

Yeah this didn't work back during the WC, and it's not working now either. I also tried the GomStreamer and that's not working either...so something is a bit strange. Oh well. I'd really rather not install the GomTV player, but I may have to give in soon.

Please use the gatherinfo extension, so I can have a look at your problem, because for me everything runs as smooth as it can since the added ClientAgent hurdle.

OK, strike that, I've to update the gatherinfo extension first, I'll do that as soon as I come home. Update info will then be postet here.

This work with VLC only if you start download the view.cgi and open it with vlc.

Downside : the view.cgi keep downloading and take more and more space on my harddrive ..

I have been using this for a long time and today I noticed the chrome extension not working on Mac - anybody else having any trouble with this? I know it hasn't been updated in a while.

The extension tends to stop working at the beginning of a new season. Some kind of war of arms against the Gretech JavaScript peons.

In wonderful, amazing news, however, you can now watch with the official GOM Player for Mac. Download it at http://www.gomlab.com/eng/dnCountMac.php and it launches just fine in Safari.*

I'm not sure why it took them two and a half years to do it, but hey, I'm glad they got around to it.

* I found this out by reading their JavaScript, not because I use Safari. I've spent almost as much time reading and debugging Gretech JavaScript than I have watching the GSL.

incredibly grateful for the great reverse engineering work with the DOM and the client-side scripts! have you considered releasing your source? there are other projects with similar goals that would heavily benefit from it. there are other similar hacks out there but yours is the cleanest I have yet seen.

working great on os x 10.6.7 with vlc 1.11.1 64 bit and chrome 6.0.472.55
GPL your code pl0x!

Doesn't work with new GOMTV revamped site. Would be nice if you could post the source for the extension, I could port it to firefox.

Sorry I've no time right now, didn't even see one game this or last season. I hope to get some time this weekend to analyze the new page.

It's the same javascript handing the gomTV media player the same link (from what I remember about how it was previously).

Shouldn't be too tricky.

Sorry for the delay.

I had time today, it should be working now again with version 0.1.9.
Auto-Update should be working also, but I guess I have to wait for your feedback.

Also is there a way to edit "OLD POST"s, or do I have to start a new thread?

A little tip:
gomstreamer works like a charm, is regularly updated (within the day gom changes their system) and works on all OS. Been using it exclusively on mac os since gom player just keeps crashing on it.

Nice script, had made a similar one for myself. Then I thought of packaging it for easy install and so on.

But the thing is, I kept going back to the point that you have to provide the login details, and that most people won't have enough trust to a random person on the internet to type it in on such a script. Not everybody knows enough about coding to check the code for malicious stuff in it.

But I'm glad someone put a script like that out there

Released version 0.1.10

Changed the Request URL to have the conid parameter, so now you should get the stream link again.
Also fixed a minor bug.

I also have a working experimental version, which uses one experimental api of google chrome. In this version it will start the download of the stream without any extra hassel.
I'll release it this weekend, I hope some of you will test it, it works quit nice, but you have to turn the experimental api on in chrome://flags before you can install it.

This weekend I released an experimental version of this extension, which allows you to start the stream download in the chrome browser itself.

I made a new thread with more information, because I'm not able to change the first post of this one because it is an "OLD POST".

Link to Extension-Page

Please provide feedback if it works for you or not.
