I plan on making a list of which mice/pads/keyboards are used by which pro gamer. If you know any, just post below and I'll consolidate all the answers into this first post! I'll start us off with IdrA and any others that I find out about over time.
They are sorted alphabetically by main name (so EGIdrA is I for example) The pattern is: Mouse / Mousepad / Keyboard

you may actually be right... I just thought it was the XAI, because I have the XAI as well and it looked virtually identical... But on the EG homepage it says Kinzu, so I changed the OP to reflect that until I know otherwise... Thanks! Good catch!
I am not sure if IdrA uses the QSenn-DT-35 or the Steelseries 7g, I know he used the QSenn at MLG but that was borrowed from Artosis who does use it. I could swear I've seen him at events using the 7g.
I have seen idra playing with the kizu/xai on last gsl qualifier in artosis recordings. I really cant believe its the Xai because having used a lmo before, the Xai is so much bigger and heavier, it has to be the kinzu.
I believe Day9 said he uses the Diamondback 3G and not the Diamondback. I don't have anyway to verify this though, I just remember him saying it in a daily. I may be wrong. Also, I have no idea what the difference is between the 3g and regular one, and I have the regular Diamondback (not that that matters, lol).
I think all the EG guys use that freakin' humongous EG mousepad, a special edition Steelseries QCK+ with the EG logo. At least I remember seeing iNcontrol, Idra and Machine using it at MLG.
Fnatic and SK gaming have special edition steelseries mousepads too, but I don't recall looking at their gear to confirm. MLG usually gives good angles on the player's gear, so maybe someone remembers if Gretorp, TT1 or Sen had this mousepad:

I am 100% sure Idra uses the Kinzu, because i have print screens with gamers from MLG Dallas, and idra's mouse doesn't have the side buttons that tha XAI has, so he uses the Kinzu for sure.
The protoss guy that was in the finals (can't remember his name right now) uses the "Xai" and the "SteelSeries QcK+ Fnatic Pad" (that yellow+black one)
I'm almost positive that Nazgul uses Logitech G3(uses left hand), and I'll update on the others after I check the printscreens(which are at home )

Yes, he does, I didn't realize there was an old version without the 3g.... corrected...

I hadn't seen that video before, it is soo awesome. Tyler you baller.
I wonder why must pro-gamers use optical mice...And the EG guys, why don't they use the XAI(wayy better than kinzu)? I checked their gear, and it's like Kinzu and Ikari all over (mostly kinzu).Maby it's a confort issue and not a laser/optical sensor issue, but still...I find this weird.

Wooo, I have that one! *instantly feel 300x cooler* Killer mouse for RTS though, and suits my grip really well. But wait, this means I now have no excuse for not being way high up in diamond. Brb, practicing.

If you're referring to JangBi's keyboard, it's a DT35 if I'm not mistaken. It comes in both black and white, so he just took a bunch of keys and switched them out.

Its not about optical or laser. there are many different models of optical and laser sensors, many opticals are better than the laser ones and vice versa. The Xai uses the ADNS 9500 sensor which is indeed superior to the sensor in the kinzu, but not because its laser. And still, even that sensor has its flaws. It produces much negative acceleration on cloth mousepads if you play on mid to low sensivity, which may be the reason the EG guys dont use it. But ofcourse maybe they use the kinzu just because of comfort like you said. The Xai weighs 20g more (this is much) and is much bigger. Or maybe they do use the Xai, you don't know. You dont have to take what is written in their profiles. Just look at wemadefox wc3 players profiles, its stated they use the deathadder haha
On November 29 2010 22:04 TheDoK666 wrote: the Diamondback got the nearly same sensor as the 518, and the 3G got the 3G sensor of the copperhead etc wich is shit :p
The 3G is the sensor the Salmosa and the original Deathadder use which is actually very good. But Salmsoa and Diamondback 3g have no onboard memory to fix the prediction but i doubt it affects sc2 anyway. Copperhead uses a similar sensor to the Microsoft Habu and i believe Logitech G5 which are laser sensors.
Lol IdrA uses Logitech USB mini mouse and DT35 keyboard classic korean setup. He has kinzu on EG page cos steelseries is his sponsor but in reality he uses logitech mouse. Same goes for many other players theyr setup on clanpage is usually different from actual setup they use.
Boxer goes with exactly same setup as idra expect for mouspad EGpad vs KeSPA pad Foxer same as well btw
maybe the Kinzu i saw idra palying with was the default setup of those pcs, then i wonder how he can switch mice just like that. Maybe because he plays with an interpolated lmo anyway, it cant get much worse : D Or it was no qualifier game he played, and just picked some pc to warm up.

Its probably like genra said, he might have been just warming up. He played with that logitech the whole time he is in korea so switching to kinzu out of blue? (tho he might have it in contract using steelseries equipment )
it wouldn't be an out of the blue switch since when he left CJ, he joined EG, which is sponsored by SteelSeries, which might have led him to switch to a kinzu

If he would want to switch mouse, he could have done that sooner, so if he really switched its prolly bcs of contract not that kinzu is better then his previous mouse.
It seems like in might have been in steel-series best interests to create some visual differentiation between the Xai and Kinzu aside from the extra buttons.

Actually, if you look at the videos on YouTube (and I think Artosis has it too; at the very least you can click his and check the related ones) you'll see that BoxeR is using a keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches, which is definitely not a DT-35. I've heard some people say it's the Scorpius one, but I'm not entirely sure.
Edit: How did I miss dinki's post!? I feel so embarrassed!

Exactcly...all these bad sensor, negative accel bull-crap...and many of them use it...
You aren't going to notice those problems while playing high sensitivity rts games, they only really matter when you play fps games on low sensitivity and have to make very quick flick shots. Kinzu is perfectly fine for starcraft, just dont use it if you're serious about fps games and make a lot of quick movements.
IdrA and the other EG warriors switched to SteelSeries products when they joined the team, they probably get them for free and found using them to be satisfying.

It's a dodgy mouse, doesn't really matter at all for rts though, most of the pros are just using some random low performance crap. You don't really give your mouse optics a chance to fail all that much unless you go play fps with lowish sens.

a bit of both... obviously pro gamers are required to use sponsored gear, so they check out all the steelseries mice and find out which they like the best.
and yeah i highly doubt youll see any problems with any sensors at the sensitivity most rts gamers use

Iam sure there is no problem with keyboards since steelseries do the best-old-style-nothing fancy ones ( if they just werent so overpriced T_T ) but i have no expirience with theyrs mouses so its hard for me to tell if you can use one comfortly for SC

The GSL-qualifier videos Artosis posted on his youtube channel reveal that IdrA actually owns 2 EG QcK+ pads. He cut one of them so it would fit within the deskspace allocated to each player. I suppose he uses whichever is more convienient?
Liquid`Huk mentioned that the "only bangs on cheap stuff" in the FruitDealer keyboard thread, which implies some kind of membrane keyboard.
Based on GSL videos, Tester/SKS uses a Filco Majestouch (not sure which switch - probably brown), and CheckPrime uses a pink Filco Majestouch with Browns.
Apparently FruitDealer (and some other TSL members) are now "officially" using the new SkyDigital nKeyboard Mechanical, which is a Korean 106-key layout Cherry MX keyboard that is available with Blue, Brown or Black switches.
There's a picture of Day[9] using a Filco, but it's not clear if it's actually his keyboard or that he regularly uses it.

Aside from the wack backspace and enter keys, it looks pretty good. Realistically I imagine it will be nearly impossible to get outside of Korea however.
Good to see this thread getting some pro feedback.
Day[9] doesn't have a Filco. Aside from the fact that it doesn't sound like one in the Dailies, there are several other places where I've seen a quote somewhere along the lines of "some cheap one," so I think it's just a membrane.

Hmmm, looks pretty cheaply made though... I wonder WTH the 2 AAA batteries are used for!?!?
Yes, I'm very positively surpised by the amount and quality of replies to my thread!
Also HUGE thanks to WinByDefault for posting the spreadsheet with sensor information! Been looking for something like that for years...
Lastly: Genra: I'm proud to see that on TL there isn't just idiots going "The Mamba is so OMFGWTFBBQ good! BEST MOUSE EVAR!!11!!1!" but rather know what they are talking about, like I try to most of the time. And a fellow-german, none the less! Saubere Sach'!!! :-D
A final mini-pro-tip: No matter what you do, don't EVER buy a mouse with a Twin Eye Sensor... (like, indeed, the Mamba, though there is a dozen more reasons why the mamba sucks...)
The battery compartments aren't used for anything. Well, I guess you could stash your weed in them or something. Apparently the OEM reused case molds from another keyboard they previously manufactured - the Bluetooth Filco Majestouch (not made anymore AFAIK.) Since the nKeyboard mechanical is not a wireless keyboard the battery compartments aren't even wired up.
Regardless, it's probably a pretty nice keyboard if you're looking for a Korean layout, and you have your choice of Cherry MX switches.

my guess is that its probably because its larger and thus heavier. such small weight differences dont really matter for us ordinary folks, but when u are playing for some 8-10 hours a day at 250 apm, u are glad for any physical relief ur hands and arms can get.
but i´d be interested to hear idra´s reasoning aswell
here u can see what ben is using im sure some of u guys can identify mous/pad/keyboard
Keyboard DT-35, pad steelseries QcK-mini, and mouse prolly that kinzu not sure tho
It actually looks like the texture of the pad isn't a normal cloth pad and seems to have a bit of a design to it. I think it might actually be either the 4HD or the 9HD

for games i would say they aren't.
Mech switches are touted for their longevity, along with tactile feedback both of which benefits a person who is typing not slamming their hand into a keyboard playing a game.
Most keyboard use rubber domes the implementation of which varies in some degree. Slim keyboards tend to use scissor switches, which are said to have good tactile feedback according to mech forums but they don't last and break much easier.

Either way a simple rule of thumb is that you want a hard mat for lazer mice. And a nice textured cloth mat that is mono color for optical mice.

Hey guys.... was watching Boxer playing on the GSL sponsors season 1 a few days ago and noticed he was using what looks like a Razer lachesis ? Any mice pro wanna confirm this ?
Curious about the Filco choices. Those are really expensive keyboards and I doubt they are sponsor freebies, so I suppose those guys know what they're doing. I got mine (tenkeyless blue) because I type for a living. Would love to see someone bring a Model M to a tournament, lol (weird feeling, playing Starcraft 2 on a keyboard from 1993 and plenty of them are from the eighties).
As of mice, I remember someone saying one of the pros used mice skates. I did that in Warcraft 3 for a moment with good results, well, relative to my unpro play.

Curious indeed!
Having one in my hand right now and judging from the size I'd say that's Salmosa or Abyssus, dunno about Lachesis. Lachesis seems a bit too big and heavy for RTS, also note how BoxeRs fingers come almost over the length of the mouse - I have huge hands and my fingers come like 2cm over my Salmosa. My guess is, it's Abyssus.

Id be surprised if it was the IMP because its SO garbage (sensor and firmware)
mmhh? got a imperator and its pretty damn amazing. yaya Zaxis bla but i dont even notice it/barely lift and i dont see any problem with the firmware. really its a damn nice mouse that scored quite some awards.
def could be one just judging by this one pic/vid. would fit the front and size rather well. dont know how the other razer mice look exactly tho.

It's a philips twin eye which all have lift off issues, but it's a mouse with a high enough dpi that one would rarely need to lift off, i never lift off my G9x i don't need to i just bumped up the dpi until all i use is my fingers to move the thing.

It's a philips twin eye which all have lift off issues, but it's a mouse with a high enough dpi that one would rarely need to lift off, i never lift off my G9x i don't need to i just bumped up the dpi until all i use is my fingers to move the thing.
thats what i meant with "Zaxis bla"
i was scared for a bit when i unpacked it (was gift from gf)cause i knew about the "issues". but in the end i didnt even notice it till i read about it again. you naturally adapt and imho the whole thing really is much less of an issue then some technerds might tell you.
but enough of that, might do a small review of the imperator at one point and talk more about that... maybe... ~

Makes sense! But correct me if I'm wrong, but neither the Salmosa nor the Abyssus has got a shiny scrollwhell, does it ?
if its a shiny scrollwheel it has to be the orochi.
Boxer is so used to the lmo that he would never touch any other mouse that is bigger than the lmo. The Orochi's shape and size is very similar to that.
Well, I'm rulling out the Orochi and Imperator as their shiny scrollwhell has a black rubber stripe down the middle of it. Boxer's one is clear. So Deathadder seems likely. If it comes in with purple lights. Coz the Lachesis has customizable LED lights so I went with that. I'm still holding onto the possibility of a Lachesis tho. His hands seems nested pretty high up the way the lachesis has a pretty rounded arse ^^
Just amused/curious as I always thought he was an old-school optical mini-logitech kinda guy, y'know ? Lol

the logitech mini optical isn't precise enough for the minimum resolution of sc2, at least in my opinion. It was fine for sc1 that was at 640x480, but it's just about impossible to use for sc2

It definitely looks like one but IMO it's a bit small, maybe there is a smaller asian version of it like there was of salmosa, either that or BoxeR has absolutely wtf gigantic hands & I'm confused.

Hey all, I didnt want to start a new thread on it but im currently in the market for a new keyboard and mouse.
I've narrowed it down to the steelseries xai and razer deathadder for the mice, and for the keyboard i was thinking of the 6g2v. I've done a bit of research and a lot of players like the filco majestouch as well? I dont know if I can justify paying 180$ for a keyboard.
I really would like to know what keyboard marinekingprime uses, the checked board keys (although that might just be custom). if anyone knows please PM me or/and add to thread!

He is using Qsenn DT-35 I think, he probably bought one white, one black and changed the keyset.

Every mechanical keyboard is the same inside (uses same switches provided by Cherry). Figure out which switch you want and then go with what looks good/cheaper/whatever.
You might want to try to find one at a Fry's or Microcenter so you can try them and not get slapped with shipping costs too. Razer's difinitely is the most feature packed keyboard for a good price (relative to other mechanicals).

He is using DT-35. He switched the keys out for white ones and I don't think its a mechanical keyboard. Mechanical keyboards can be quite expensive so chose wisely.

Thanks for that! yeah i just picked up a blackwidow, i figure if its good enough for jinro its good enough for me and it was on sale =)
By the way, FruitDealer (and I think the rest of TSL) now uses the nkeyboard brand keyboards, which I believe are very similar to the Filco. Reason of the change is because the company is sponsoring their team.

Correct me if I'm wrong if he switched back.
Yes, they actually had that keyboard made after the saw him with a filco in gsl - supposed to be the exact same board
On February 17 2011 20:38 theramstoss wrote: How come nobody uses the mini optical?
it does not have enough DPI (CPI) to travel the whole screen at high resolutions and still be precise!
To be more exact, the cpi/dpi of it is so low that to get a high sensitivity you have to have your SC2 ingame options sensitivity set to over 50 which will result in the pointer skipping pixels. If you try to play low sensitivity style you will quickly notice that the mouse can't keep up with those quick long moves your arm is doing and the pointer will go more or less crazy.
Some of the progamers are still opting to use it even in SC2 as can be seen in some of the GSTL matches, one has to assume they just don't care about the pixel skipping enough to switch away from the shape they've grown to love.
I'ld really like to see their responses whether they like or dislike that feature and why they use Kinzu. Because this mouse really feels weird to use, at the very least at the beginning. Yet to me it seems like a fix mentioned on SK forums actually work - which is to first save the right settings, and then uninstall the mouse driver. Seemingly this also disables the mouse acceleration.

afaik the mouseaccel and the prediction problems cannot be fixed, but they only do occur at a certain mousespeed which should be unnoticable in sc2.

Jinro himself confirmed he's using the BlackWidow.

I can't quite tell what the logo is, but I have a question. Was there ever a MX300 released with black sides and silver top? This fact alone makes me think it's the G1 instead of the MX300 (silver sides, black top).

But it isn't actually more than one action per button press. All it does is cause the "repeat" that happens when you hold down a key to happen faster (i.e., "sssssssssssss"). Do you have a source for this?

Yea that's the G1 mouse and Qsenn DT-35 Keyboard.
It's the PS/2 Black QSENN SEM-DT35. The reason you know its the PS/2 and not USB is because of the background image where the lights on the top right of the keyboard. It's the gaming edition and that edition isn't available in USB.

Until most of the pro teams started using sponsor equipment (i.e. EG all using steelseries mice), ms 3.0 was used by quite a few pros in cs and quake. Still is in quake quite a bit, along with the ms 1.1. Not so much in cs since all pro teams pretty much have sponsored mice.
Newer games don't see the ms 3.0 as much anymore simply because it's a newer generation of gaming- someone new to the scene probably isnt going to want to use old technology when it's not as common as it used to be, and again you don't see pros using it as much outside of quake. And obviously a mouse can only be good if you pay more money for it
Also I think zlasher knows a thing or two about fps gamers...

1) Non-perfect control - usually clipping at around 1.8m/s 2) Very thick/heavy cord - very bad for light mice 3) Suffer from mouse wheel problems

DPI doesn't matter at all. 1000 DPI is a LOT and probably overkill for most.
I'm using a G9x that has capability to 5600DPI but I'm only using it at 500DPI and Speed: 0 because it is ridiculously sensitive.
If I needed a cheap-ish replacement for my G9x, I would definitely get Logitech G1 off eBay for around $30 + postage.
I'm looking to buy a g9/g9x, any particular reason the x is worth the extra few bucks? I seriously doubt I'll ever need more than 3200 dpi. Also I'm confused on the grips.. any one significantly better than another, or are they all essentially the same thing?
i believe the g9x is just an updated version of the g9 ... not sure what was fixed.. it isn't meant to be used without the shell but it can be done its just not very ergonomic .....as for the grips one is silky smooth and has a wider bottom for your thumb/pinky to sit on... the precision grip has a textured plastic finish and has a more narrow bottom...
No just buy the g9..I have both. The g9x has faster dpi that u wont use. As for the grips it comes with 2..... wide load and a smaller rubbery precision grip. And u can buy a 3rd the id grip(ment to be mx 518 shape i think) google it
Its by far the best mouse i have had.I use the precision grip.
Where could you buy a logitech g1? I don't think its sold at their official website anymore.
Also what mouse would you recommend me? I feel lijke MX518 is too big for me and uncomfortable while deathadder feels perfect for me. I use about 1200DPI and I feel like logitech g1 1000dpi is low.

He made a post about it. I think he got one for free and tested it out at least. His post was about some issues he was having with it so he may not be using it regularly.
After looking through many threads, people suggested that gaming mouses that are light. When I looked at my mouses weight compared to what sc2 pro gamers use, it was really heavy(Logitech MX518). I made my mind to buy Razer Abysuss because it is lighter than logitech g1 and cheap.
DPI is just sensitivity right? I have my DA set to 3500 and I think it's too sensitive. I've been messing around with the settings and haven't really found the perfect match just yet.
Edit: I just read above and yeah it turns out lower DPI is much better for me. I set it to 900 and it feels a lot nicer. I don't know why companies advertise higher DPI to be a good thing, doesn't really make sense.

When it comes to fps-games etc by increasing DPI/CPI and lowering in-game sensitivity the mouse cursor movements become smoother. In SC2 you can't increase or decrease the sensitivity in-game because of the acceleration in the game itself, but ure right it's also a marketing gimmick
Well, I have been using extremely high DPI + low sens quite a while and I discovered that it is most comfortable for me. Movement is so much smoother, precise and accurate then on like 400 DPI
its not preciser with high dpi high dpi such as 5600 is needed for 3 monitors linked together if you have 3 monitors as example 3*1920 1080 3*1920 is 5760 pixxel's there for you need 5700 dpi is the only reason dpi makes only more precise is your monitor is big that works not good with a 400 dpi mouse then its not precise and fro precise then you need more dpi ^^

It's a feel thing, as well as the size of your monitor. I'm on a 23" monitor and on my g9x I'm currently using 2400 DPI and speed 5, I just like a more sensitive mouse and it works for me. I know a lot of people who go over 1000 DPI, even if 5600 is overkill.

Samsung Qsenn still seems to be the most popular as far as keyboard goes. Seems to be a greater variet when it comes to mice though.
Yeah, it's just whatever they tried/got comfortable with, or it's all brands they're sponsored by. ^is correct in terms of keyboards, but mechanicals like Filcos have been gaining more popularity as of late.

All the headphones you see over their "inner heaphones" are Razer Banshee, and I believe I've seen a few players when they took the banshee headphones down, are the regular Apple headphones under it, I don't think that matters so much for them Mainly used to block the noise
Is there anything special about the DT35? I thought the reason all the BW pros used it was just that it was sort of the standard keyboard in PC Bangs so they just got used to it and it's cheap and easy to replace. But now I see some foreign pros use it as well, is it just a hype/style thing or does it have some actual advantages over other keyboards?

The actual keyboard isn't that good. Its just standard in PCBangs and most BW progamers started with it, and probably was quite standard.
Most top SC2 players who aren't too picky/are a bit better off use Filco (TricksteR/Fruitdealer before getting sponsored by nKeyboard) and that other guy on my list who uses a Leopold. Lots of foreigners are using mechanical keyboards, although I don't see someone magically jumping leagues or even rising ranks just by replacing keyboard. Its mostly for typing feel (you do a lot of typing normally as a student or something similar) and durability (you won't really need to buy another keyboard again)
I'm a hardcore fps gamer for years and I've gone through so many mice. G9x is the best mouse ever. It's better than the G9, G500, G5, MX518, Intellimouse Explorer 3, etc, etc that I used before that. When I got the G5 back in 2006, that was orders of magnitude better than any mouse that preceded it. The G9x is better than G5 but not by a huge amount. I use every last bit of the 5700dpi. I turn the hardware dpi up all the way and leave the software mouse sensitivity settings on the defaults to prevent aliasing. From one end of the screen to the other is less than an inch of mouse movement, so I never have to pick up my wrist.
For keyboards, I've been using the G15 for a long time. It's way better than all the other keyboards I used before that. I never had problems with aliasing or blocking on the G15. The shape and comfort is great. I don't even use any macro keys. It's better than all the other keyboards solely on account of the shape, comfort, and feel of the keys. It does get pretty filthy after a while, and cleaning it is hard so I end up just replacing it every year and a half.
I tried a Filco Majestouch with black switches. I hated it because the amount of force required to depress the keys is excessive and leads to RSI. I was also thinking about trying the TT MEKA G1 (because it's the only keyboard advertising both 1000hz polling rate and nkro) until I read that it uses the same black switches. Black switches are too freaking stiff.
A little bit of theorycraft: It takes time for your muscle to build up force. The greater the force required to press a key, the longer it will take you to press the key. The greater the movement distance required to press a key, the longer it will take you to do it. That's the same principle that favors using really high DPI mice for FPS. What I really want is a slim NKRO keyboard with springs that are barely strong enough to keep my resting hands from accidentally pressing keys.

If you were truly an FPS hardcore gamer wouldn't you be worried about:
1) G9x's high LOD. 2) G9x's non-centred sensor? 3) G15 is an extremely bad keyboard. I had a G15v2, and even compared to this cheaper Sidewinder X6 that actually does have keyblocks - X6 has a proper volume knob, media keys that dont take 80g of force to depress and has much better key feel. 4) 1000Hz vs 125Hz is not that much of a difference. Its 1ms (theoretically) to 8ms (theoretically) but you have to take into account Keyboard Lag (8ms) + CPU Lag (20ms) + GPU Time (15ms at 60FPS) + Frame Transmission (16.67ms) + Double Buffering Lag (14.67ms) + LCD Response Time (12ms). Relatively, 7ms difference on 1000Hz vs 125Hz is absolutely nothing, especially when 1000Hz increases CPU load unnecessarily. 5) I'm pretty sure RSI has nothing to do with High DPI/Sensitivity, in fact it would be more believable if Low Sensitivity DECREASED chance of RSI because with High DPI, less physical movement for more cursor movement, making even large differences in cursor movement be extremely small physical movements, making each movement extremely similar to each other. With low sensitivity, one uses the arm and shoulder to control aim, while also reducing the side effect of jittery hands, making each movement have a larger relative difference to each other, reducing the "repetitiveness" of each action, reducing RSI. 6) All PS/2 Keyboards are NKRO. Its not very hard to find a NKRO keyboard, and since I explained earlier that 1000Hz makes pretty much zero difference. 7) You probably played an FPS game that requires zero aiming skill to play. e.g. CoD6/5/4 or Battlefield 2/2142/BC2 All professional/good Quake, CS1.6 players use low sensitivity, because they are games where aim is rewarded heavily, and thus needed. CoD4 is just MP5 + left click = airstrike. I was a heavy FPS player before SC2 (CoD4/6, CS:S etc), but seriously, all FPS games require no skill apart from some old school FPS like Quake/CS1.6...

theres a little misconception regarding the the switches on the 6gv2/7g, while the black switches do require a fair amount of force to push all the way down, it takes virtually no force for the keys to actually register hits, once you get used to it you can just fly across the keyboard without bottoming out at all, and its a lot faster to type and play on it. of course you can just hammer on the keys as well, and your fingers gets used to the action anyway.

What you guys think whats better to have: lower dpi so i have more control or more speed to be faster but gives more missclicks? im actually use 1500 dpi 6/11 windows sc2 sens 52% it feels very good control never missclick but its little bit to slow for me im lot faster but if i do 1800 dpi for example i missclick a lot more on big screen resolution

they are not forced to switch.
it helps though that almost all of them have atleast 1 item of Razer's, mostly mice though.

It's not a question about comfortability or not, 99% of the time you're obliged by contract to use your sponsors gear. With that being said, I'm pretty sure anything you use for an extended period of time is going to feel "right". Also, Razer is awesome!

Back in the BW days, most mouses only had 400dpi. So for RTS players and FPS players alike we had to compensate for pixel accuracy by dropping the sensitivity and whipping our forearm/wirst alot. This might also be why you see those videos of old CS/quake players with atrociously huge mousepads and wearing gloves while they have to whip their whole arm across the desk to achieve a 180 or a 360.
Nowadays the dpi and accuracy of mouses coupled with mousemats with excellent glide has more or less broken the trend.

what you think the pro's use or what is better..?
I read a point about this the other day dpi with lower sens in game is better. it gives much more control.
IEM 2011 Dreamhack Summer 2011 From these two pictures, I am 99% sure that atn.Socke uses the Cherry G80 mechanical keyboard. The big space between the number keys and the F-keys as well as the plastic length from the F-keys upwards is very characteristic of the G80. However you cannot really know what type of switches is inside his keyboard.

2) G9x's non-centred sensor?
Whether it's centered or not is relative to your hand and your joints, not relative to the shape of the mouse. And it only matters if you're twisting it instead of translating it. It causes no problem whatsoever.

5ms ping vs. 40ms ping is extremely obvious in any FPS game. Keyboard interrupts are only generated when you actually press a key, so the CPU load problem is nonexistent. You're pulling numbers out of your ass and double-counting multiple categories.

The middle word of RSI is 'stress'. You're not stressing muscles or nerves by making tiny light movements. Almost no one gets RSI from mousing, anyway. It's almost always from the keyboard. I never made the claim that the mouse was relevant to RSI.
6) All PS/2 Keyboards are NKRO. Its not very hard to find a NKRO keyboard, and since I explained earlier that 1000Hz makes pretty much zero difference.
False. A lot of PS/2 keyboards are not NKRO. NKRO requires changes to the internal wiring of the keyboard. Having a certain interface to the PC does not magically give it NKRO.

All software that comes with mice is useless at best. Don't install it. Software can't improve the accuracy of a mouse -- it can only fuck it up.

1) LOD = Lift off distance. I'm guessing you just googled "LOD"
2) I fingertip grip my mouse, like many RTS players. A centred sensor is very important. My G9x's sensor is ridiculously offset to the left
3) I recently got a Filco Majestouch Ninja Tenkeyless with MX Browns. Awesome
4) I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to react to something under 35ms. Also only PS/2 keyboards send hardware interrupts. Most USB keyboards are polled at 125Hz. Also the difference between 1000Hz and 125Hz is not 5ms vs 40ms. It is 1ms vs 8ms. You'd be lying if you said you could notice a 7ms difference without equipment.
5) Most people tense up their wrist/fingers when performing ridiculously small movements. When using large swiping movements, you use the muscles of your army and shoulder, compared to the wrist and fingers. Does RSI exist in the upper arm and shoulder?
6) USB limits it to 6 keys + 2 modifiers. I'm pretty sure MOST popular keyboards that use PS/2 interface are better than that.
7) I'm sure SC/SC2 takes much more speed than FPS ever will. I've played a multitude of games before SC2, and I can tell you that SC2 is the most mechanically challenging of them all. No I didn't play Brood War.
I think in order to know what really is good in life, you have to try a mechanical keyboard with mx switches, and if you want to know what typing on clouds means, try a red switched keyboard, preferentially a FILCO

That is a cool list, but you need to sort them by a key (country, player name, race, product or something).

From the new pictures of MLG day one by TL, we see TLO using razer gear, keyboard is marauder. Mouse could be abyssus or deathadder, mousepad might be ironclad.
Tyler is using razer vespula with maybe Abyssus, probably marauder keyboard.

They're both using an abyssus I can tell by the shape, and tyler is using a Razer Blackwidow
I got 1 question. What mousepad use White-Ra? He got some different shape of his mousepad. Black mousepad with red rim. What is it? With 1 rounded edge.
He's using ttesports gear, I think his mousepad is ttesports Dasher.

I thought the same thing when I watched that live. From that angle it does look like the abyssus, but you can tell it's the logitech g9 when looking at it closer. I own both of those mice.
Naniwa is not my favorite pro-gamer, but when I watched this video, I was startled that he had the exact same set-up as I use. I use a Razer Imperator with a default Alienware hard mouse mat. The Razer Imperator and Abyssus look much alike, however the Abyssus is ambidextrous, so it would make more sense for him to be using that. In the video, he is shown playing on a Razer Abyssus with a Alienware hard mousepad. =]

That mouse MKP is using looks like a Logitech G9 without the "grip" thingy.

MKP with a blackwidow? What happened to his checkerboard Qsenn?

He was also using it at ESWC in europe a couple weeks ago, so I'm guessing he kept the keyboard. Maybe will see him using it in the GSL.
Does anyone know if there are anywhere in Norway I can get the QcK EG edition?!?! I've looked at almost every online store I know of, but they only have the Fnatic and the SK >.< I would be really really glad if someone knew of something
Sucks about MC downgrading his gear TT now all the kids gonna end up with a mouse that has "mouse prediction" and a Mechanical switch keyboard which is stiffer than any rubber dome, only difference is they are not going to get paid for it
I'm not sure if Moon uses the same set of products for SC2, as he is listed as a WC3 player under "The best equipment for each game" but they are "products progamers are currently using," so.. :o
From today's GSL, HUK was using a new keyboard. It's the nkeyboard SkyDigital Mechanic that boxer also uses.
That could also be because HuK was in the SlayerS house. It's their standard keyboard I believe?
Yes, as I'm pretty sure they're sponsored by the company.
I don't think they are sponsored by nKeyboard, their facebook does not list them as a sponsor. Boxer is the only Slayers member that I've seen use that keyboard, while the others use the SC2 Razer keyboard. Boxer was using a cheap keyboard (Ione Scorpius M10) with mx blues when he qualified for the 2nd season of GSL, he then switched to a Filco with MX Blues shortly after. I think Boxer switched to the nkeyboard because he found the brown switches on the keyboard to be more comfortable for playing. He does seem like the type of player that really values the equipment he uses.

Wow, thanks guys. That was a quick response. Really? He uses a qsenn? Just shows how pro some of these players are. Doesn't matter what their peripherals are..they still own.
Howd you know Boxer uses skydigital ? Any source ? Cherry blues still ? I always thought he uses a filco ! :D
You can tell from videos, right above the arrow keys is the SkyDigital symbol on his keyboard. I'm 100% sure that he is now using MX Brown switches, he has a ton of keys missing exposing the switches. There are pics from MLG Orlando on the MLG site showing a close up of his keyboard and in some of his GSL matches you can see it. He was using the Filco with MX Blues but my guess is that someone gave him the SkyDigital to try and he liked the MX Browns a lot more and decided to get one. I don't feel that it had anything to do with switching because of quality issues, since Filco makes some of the top keyboards.
On November 28 2011 21:45 Zlasher wrote: Are you sure thats not a 6GV2? I'm pretty surprised that Steelseries/EG would let him use non sponsored gear.
I'm positive, look at the keyboard stands, Steelseries keyboards don't have stands like that and they do not have that notch in the middle of the keyboard. I've also seen pics and videos from MLG that shows the SkyDigital symbol on the keyboard while HuK is using it.
At Dreamhack, Haypro was also using a Das Keyboard, Ret uses a Zowie mechanical. When Tyler is at tournaments he has been using the Razer Marauder keyboard, but while he's home streaming you can clearly hear that he is using his Filco MX Brown keyboard. I'm sure the sponsors hate this but many people are so used to certain gear that switching could really hurt their play. Many players take their equipment very seriously. As long as they use some of their sponsored gear(mousepads, headsets..etc) the sponsors probably will not complain.

The gaming edition is also a PS/2 only keyboard, while the the other model is USB and comes with a USB to PS/2 adapter. Some players have been using the gaming edition DT-35. At MKP's first MLG, he had to borrow someone's Blackwidow because he was unaware of the USB-only hardware rule at MLG events.

wouldn't it be a clever idea that razer would bring back updated versions of the old mouses? (Krait, Diamondback, Salmosa, etc). I'd buy a brand new salmosa with 3500dpi+ in a split second.

wondering what my other favorites; oGs_mC and iM_MvP use (keyboard + mouse)
In terms of how the tracking feels; what's the difference between the qcK+ (What I currently use), and the qcK+ heavy (I've seen that some SC2 pro's and CS 1.6 pro's use this mousepad).

dammit, should have listened to my mom 4.5 years ago, when she suggested me to buy that g9x instead of the still very nice g5 refresh that I have now but the g9x looked so awkward to me, just like one of those many weird products that never become popular because they're too innovative, futuristic or look just weird. and the price difference was also like 40 € vs 90 € or something. but in this case the mouse became popular indeed!
at least goody uses the same mouse as me \o/ :D saw him using it at the HSC4
btw, figured out, the mouse pad of MVP should most likely be a steelseries 4HD
Have been using the g9x for a while now, even bought 2, one for work and one for home, because I liked it so much.
I have kind of gotten fed up with the mouse though, there's some minor issues that have been bothering me and I feel it's time for a change. The first thing is the size, I always felt that the mouse is slightly too big for me, even with the smaller of the two cases. The other thing is the mouse wheel, which is not fixed tightly so you can feel it rattling when you move the mouse or pick it up. It's a minor thing maybe, but that mouse wheel really annoys me to no end, makes it feel like the mouse is not really solid.
So I was looking for a new mouse and found this thread and then saw that TLO is using the KTEC 9500+, had never heard of the mouse so I looked it up and saw that it's only about 15$ here in Korea. It looks cheap and flimsy as hell but I thought oh well, it's only 15$ whatever. Ordered one right away, excited to see how it is (I have very low expecations haha).
If the two grips are two big on the g9x, why dont you try it without any of the grips. See if you like that first and then spend money on a new mosue. Also TLO is now using the razer abyssus.

Do you use hyperscroll mode? I find that with my G9x the rattling of the wheel is greatly reduced when I switch the wheel to the normal tick-scrolling mode... unfortunately I've grown to like hyperscroll so I deal with the rattle.

MKP is using a Logitech g9 but i dont know which sensivity.
OGS supernova used a mini optical with a qsenn dt 35 on IEM.

Moon used to play with an razer krait and a very old version of qsenn dt 35 but now he got a new one and changed his mouse to logitech g1. I dont know what gear he is playing right now since he joined Fnatic. Might be the same still.
At MLG Championship, MKP was using a whitekeyboard with blank white keycaps. Does anyone know if that was just for MLG (I know in the past he wasn't allowed to use his PS/2 keyboard) or did he swtiched from the classic black/white checkered?

Do any progamers use the setup: Zowie Mico / Steelseries QcK (or any cloth pad really) / Samsung DT-35?
I'm just curious, because that's the setup I use and I like it a lot. It would encourage me if any progamer used something close to it!
(I also took out all the odd numbered (1,3,5,7,9) keys from the top and switched them with the ones from the numpad, since they are shorter and the 5 has an anchor on it like F and J so I can use keys 5 through 0 much easier. I doubt anyone does that but maybe someone might want to try it, I'm just a newbie).

That kinda looks like a deathadder but it isnt, you can tell because the scroll wheel has a black top part thing. The death adder has a purely blue scroll wheel.

Looks like a Sensei RAW. Mvp previously said on his stream that he switched to a SteelSeries mouse.

Here's what it looks like next to a DeathAdder clone (A4-Tech X-748K, very popular in Poland, its shape is based on a DA and the sensor is the same as in Logitech MX518 minus any custom modifications, i.e. Avago 3080, and you can buy four units of this for the price of one DeathAdder, which is the reason why I bought it in 2008 and it's as good as new minus some dirt):

I did the exact same thing and I don't regret it one bit. g9x without shell is an excellent feeling mouse.
I suppose it's kinda like Kinzu on steroids. It has more or less the dimensions of a Zowie Mico. Mico is 98mm/58mm/35mm, this is, shall we say, 105/57/34 (my measurements aren't fully precise), while Kinzu is 117/64/36. TT e-SPORTS Azurues mini is 114/62/37. Spectre is 100/66/37 (IMHO Spectre's shape is the best of all considered here).
The degree of control and the glide you get this way is amazing. It's not the same mouse really as with a bulky grip (although with 2 grips shipped and a third, huge palmer, available separately, you can generally work something out for every type of use). Problem is, with my size of palm and length of fingers, this is just too narrow without a grip, so I tend to use the precision grip for SC2 (whereby the mouse gains some width but not much length or height if any).
For the record, if you don't need more than 1000-1200 dpi, you can find plenty of this type of shape, size and weight (lighter too) among office laser mice from more mundane office brands or even cheap office issue Microsofts and Logitechs. One of my lucky finds was similar to this stripped G9X in size but shorter (kinda like a slightly scaled down Spectre), flatter and had a flattened thin cable that weighed nothing and could never be felt and was literally incapable of ever getting in the way (somehow gaming mice manufacturers never came up with the idea). Took it from the exhibition shelf at -60% off and had to clean it but it worked wonders until I gave it away. Had heavy prediction, though. That's the risk you run when you don't know what sensor you're getting (then again, Zowie and other optical gaming mice also have prediction). (Sorry for this last OT).
On March 28 2012 12:36 Intensity wrote: So many of these pros use optical mice. Can someone direct me to a thread where I can read more about why these guys are using optical over laser? I don't want to derail the thread.
No link for you, sorry, but when people give a reason it always seems to be that the optical sensor is more stable and predictable. Early lasers had tracking problems. Modern lasers don't have the same problems, they're supposedly better than optical for small-distance movement tracking (e.g. micro in a battle). So I'd say it comes down to trusting what you know, distrusting what you don't. Or subjective preference (the way I feel is like laser is superior but optical still feels more right, then again, I'd probably be using a baller if they still made them with usable DPI).

He uses his signature model, the Ttesports Saphira
Very much like him to use the signature product he promotes. When I first saw Saphira on TT e-SPORTS page, I thought WhiteRa wouldn't be the kind of guy to fool you into buying something he didn't care about. Does he use it consistently, any specific comments from him about it? For the record, Saphira has the Avago 3090 sensor, supposedly best optical stuff available right now, same as in the CoolerMaster Spawn. Should be better than the 3080 from Logitech MX 518 (or my cheap A4-tech X-748K, hehe), I guess.
Ok thanks you I have some questions. I go in Poland in few weeks, you think I can find the G9X and for what price ? In Poland the hardware it is cheaper than in France or England for example?

The lowest stable price I can find is PLN 219 (e.g. this), which is about two euro cheaper than I could find on French Amazon and about two euro more expensive than the price I saw at the UK Amazon. There seems to have been a massive decrease in the prices of G9X mice and not every retailer has caught up yet. Some are still charging nearly twice as much. Might be reaction to Sensei.
The other problem is the custom ID grip (the big palmer with an additional teflon foot) if you actually ever intend to buy it. I couldn't find it on the UK Amazon, while on the French one it cost above 30 euro, whereas in Poland you can find it for like 24 zloties (where 1 euro is roughly 4 zloties). I suspect it could be similar with replacement sliders. And you may need those sooner or later because sliders do wear off (especially with a hard pad and you should probably be using one, I used a Steelseries 4HD) and I can feel resistance with this mouse even without that much wear already (slider replacement supposedly isn't the most pleasant procedure with this mouse but I haven't tried yet; if I do, I might be tempted to slap some additional teflon on it, and rim the precision grip with teflon strips while at it).
I was going to buy the SteelSeries Sensei, but I took the time to read/watch reviews etc and made a decision to buy the G9X. Previously I owned a Razer Imperator it was a great mouse(started double clicking) and I haven't been happier with a mouse before the G9X. It's a great piece of work. (I also removed the shell and use it without).

Some of them do like you say, mostly foreigners though. The Korean teams under big hardware sponsorship right now are: Startale, IM, MVP, Prime. And despite the sponsorship Startale protosses, some IM players, 99% of Prime members, they use Logitech mice (G9x, G1). Both Logitech and Qsenn do not sponsor any non-KeSPA SC2 teams, but if you group all the mice and keyboards together, the most "popular" are Logitech G9x and Qsenn DT-35.

They zoomed the keyboard in one of the shots and it really looks like the Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth to me. He even had the macro keys at the left taken out.

taeja uses the g9x without the grip yes. I know a number of other koreans do this as well. Pretty sure losira and a lot of IM members in general use the g9x gripless. The grips the g9x comes with is rather uncomfortable and feels clunky(sides drag when you move it). I've been trying to play without my grip and its much easier to point and click but I havent abandoned using a grip yet cause I rely on the side mouse buttons and teaching myself new hotkeys= GG T.T

I use the bigger grip on my G9X now, but I found that folding some thin cardboard and padding out the sides alleviated the problem with the dragging. Not ideal, and certainly a bit fiddly, but worth it...

You can take off the shells and play without them, then it is actually one of the smallest and narrowest mice out there. But even with a shell it's not much wider than a G1 or a Deathadder.

G9x must be some crazy blue asian transformers styles edition or something. When players get sponsored they usually don't like swapping mice, essentially all standard layout keyboards are the same. You cant say the same about mice. ie.. Huk used his razer abyssus forever after joining EG (whose with SS) and maybe still does.

Ya its obv a special edition. I love it so much lol. I currently have a g9 but its starting to show some wear and I want to replace it soon...
hmm yeah i had a look back and it looks like your probably right. does look awesome, maybe its a custom mod? i didn't realize the buttons on the G9 hang over the front so much when it doesn't have a shell on it.
When SC2 came out there was and maybe still is all this Hype over mechanical keyboards. People like myself with gear acquisition syndrome across all hobbies dont benifit as I end up spending too much money on useless shit I dont need.
I'll always support professional keyboard brands as I like quality products, however not one gaming keyboard is justified I found. Take the dodgy quality of razer casing (on all products) + shocking braided cable quality or the sensor issue with SS as well as allthose other gaming mice that fail at having a 1:1 ratio in 2012!
I like the G9x but its still my least fav mouse logitech ever released, wobbly mouse wheel that i can hear even with headphones on? basically as soon as a product is associated with "gaming" expect the quality to be shitty, have lots of pretty lights.
Avg office pc accessories over gaming crap anyday, if you feel like buying a certain brand will support your favourite team, thats cool, its just a shame you end up using shit because of some team that gets paid to use it. thats all. Buy a hoody instead!
It's definitely a shell-less g9x like he has always used, and i think he put some blue film wrap over it or something? Kinda like how the startale players put that red bull film over the sc2 headset. Looks really tacky and i can't imagine it being very comfortable, but hey..style over substance i guess :p

Are you sure you didn't get a dud? The mouse wheel and overall construction quality of a g9x is absolutely rock solid compared to any other mouse i've ever owned, used or even seen. Also it's "Wobbly" because that's the way sideways scrolling works... that's basically standard on any recent logitech mouse. Why someone would see that as a bad thing i have no idea.
because I'm not used to scrolling left and right i scroll up and down :/ must be getting old we didnt have a scroll wheel in the 90s and now i gotta scroll left and right too? you serious?
Hope you can actually see from my post that I dont hate logitech mice maybe i dont adapt to change when i dont have to. theres many other things about G9x I cant get my head around, they have this case that every newb likes and every pro takes off. why not put the sensor in the middle of the mouse? (i realise it may not actually affect accuracy but it fucks with my head which is enough of a disadvantage for me) all these damn unwanted useless features dudes have to pay for in the end.

Haha, well if you're used to having it different i can imagine it being a bit of a pain in the ass. Personally i don't like the shells either and i took them off after about a week. The grey one is simply too big and too high and the black one makes my hands sweat, so i prefer it without a shell. Makes it way lighter and nimble as well, which is what i'm looking for in a mouse.

Quick question. Players can use whatever they like correct? Or do sponsors get pissed and make them use certain equipment? I don't think SteelSeries would be too happy if a player on one of the teams they sponsor used Razer products. lol

It depends on the team and on how badly the sponsor wants to impose using their products on the players. For example, Prime is sponsored by TT esports, but only few of their players actually use their products and even after signing Steelseries as a sponsor, a lot of IM players continued using their standard Logitech mice (Nestea still does) and Qsenn keyboards and only recently have switched to Steelseries gear. On the other hand, I have never seen an MVP or a Liquid player use anything but Razer gear after they got sponsored by Razer.

Based on what ive seen in Flash FPVOD (where we can see his screen as well as his hands), he is using relatively low sens (when having RTS in mind, a lot lower sens is for example common in certain FPS games), so im pretty certain he is using 800 dpi or mb even the 450 option.

Flash uses 1600 DPI. I saw it by the blue color. Rain uses 800 DPI.
In my opinion 800 DPI is better with the Zowie Mico, 1600 DPI is so fast...
That largely depends on your screen resolution =p 800dpi is painfully slow on my 2.5k monitor anything below 2800dpi on that monitor is painfully slow.

You're right. Unless they have a sponsorship which forces them to use some other mouse (like Incredible Miracle is required to use SS gear) the most common mice seem to be:
G9x without shell Logitech g1 Zowie Mico Razer abyssus.
Most of the IM players seemed to use G1's before steelseries sponsored them and henceforth requires them to use SS stuff.

Its all preference. Browns are the best overall for everything, but if you prefer blues, you'll play fine on blues. You'll never lose a game because of the mechanical keyswitch you use. Remember that most BW pros used Q-Senn DT-35's for years. Any mechanical board destroys that thing. I personally like Blues.

Actually you can lose a game if you're playing using uncomfortable keyboard or (and) a mouse. You will spend more time trying to get used to it instead of concentrating on the game. Or just a misclick ( hi Razer BW's macro keys and F keys placement ). Personally I can't play on blues and don't really like them for anything, even typing ( browns as well ). And I would honestly pick almost any kb, even DT-35, over a mechanical one with blues. I like MX black the most, but reds are fine too.
So for those who're buying new mouse/kb and want one like their favorite pro gamer... You still should try it first, in case with keyboard at least try the most common MX switches.
I agree that the keyboard can make you lose. At least in the early stages of getting used to the keyboard. I got myself an MX Red in the start. I double stimmed so many times. The keys are super sensitive and I don't know when the key activates. But I think the sensitivity is the biggest issue. Although my apm went considerably up after I got it. And my overall play got better. Especially my micro. (I know I am contradicting myself right now) But it felt wrong and uncomfortable. I'm playing with my DT-35 now. And I never missclick. But I feel it is a little too stiff. Do anyone know the actuation force for the DT-35 or rubber dome keyboards in general? Would be useful to compare them.
Regarding trying out the keyboards. How do you try them out? The hardware stores where I live don't allow us to try them. And I got only one friend that has a mechanical keyboard which I already tried out.

If you still have your mechanical keyboard with reds you can try putting coins on one key, and then do the same with the DT-35. I would imagine the browns would be pretty much perfect for you, if the reds felt light enough. Brown would feel pretty much the same but you will feel when it actuates.

Put one coin at a time and then look when it actuates Then do the same with the DT-35. Use the same kind of coins and count how many it needs. Then you can count how much it needs to actuate.

Here where I live every big store that sells PC hardware and stuff like that have demo units for most popular kbs and mice. Almost every store have both versions of blackwidow and 6gv2, so that 3 out of 4 of the most common MX switches already ( ofc there's more, like clear/green switches etc, but those are rare... ). And some will allow you to try pretty much any piece of hardware unless it's in blister pack which can't be opened without damaging it. Also you can try this: http://deskthority.net/try-before-you-buy-f29/the-cherry-switch-try-gaming-pcb-s-t780.html It's some kind of demo unit with different types of the switches and people send it to each other so everyone can try those.

Awesome! Seems like Cherry MX Clears would be the closest to DT-35. I think Ducky has some keyboards with MX Clears.
Yeah. But why get a new keyboard that cost about 11x the price of a DT-35 that will be the same? I want one that is a little lighter. But not as light as MX Red. Perhaps blue. But I'm afraid that the higher release point makes it harder to click rapidly when for example producing say 4 marines on 2 reactored barracks.
Yeah, blue is fine for games, only issue for me is because it is very hard to press, after long hours of gaming my fingers gets tired really easily however someone else might not have that problem, it all depends on your hand strength and what pressure you find is most suitable.

It wont feel the same, but it would be as "hard" to press. Brown would maybe feel more like a DT-35 than blue. But it wont be the same.

Cherry MX Brown are as light as MX Red. Only difference is that they have tactile feedback. But I guess that could feel like a little small resistance bump.
Cherry MX Blue are 5g harder than MX Red/Brown. (Actuation force: 50g and 45g respectively)

It's probably just what he likes and what is comfortable, can't argue that logic.

Are you sure about them using the MX Browns? If you think so because of the sound on their stream it might be because all of them don't have the Razer gear yet. Idra said that the gear isn't there yet. The korean house has the stuff already. And also he is using A30s because "they feel better with glasses"
And the pictures aren't always right because they might be just trying the gear yet :D Stephanos stream shows him using a Deathadder but he used a Taipan at Proleague.

What do you call those things that hold the wire for the mouse? It makes the wire nice and straight and feeds it in a nice direction. I see them all the time at tournaments and on streams, I tried looking for it but I don't know what to search for. Looking under accessories isn't really helping.

Mouse bungee.
Would you recommend one to stave off future wire connection issues? After looking at a few, the design seems easy to replicate.
On March 14 2013 03:22 TeslasPigeon wrote: It makes the wire nice and straight and feeds it in a nice direction.
That's mostly an optical illusion. With most mice/ cables, a mouse bungee doesn't "make the wire nice and straight and feeds it in a nice direction". The cable is still all over the place left and right if you give it some leeway, but it comes from above and doesn't touch the mousepad, which basically eliminates cable weight. Whether or not you will sense any notable differences in mouse movement depends entirely on the cable.

You dont need to replicate anything. For example the one Razer makes is widely available and cheap. Just get one and see how you like it. If the cable bothers you when you move the mouse, a bungee will help alot. If you have a smooth desk, it will stick to it like glue, if you have some cloth on it or a rough surface, you can simply add some weights to the base of the bungee.
DIY "mouse bungee" that works a ton better than the real thing at any kind of decent ("low"..) sens (800dpi or lower - or any low sens in FPS) which is free and never needs adjusting.

lol. Seems legit. :p How well does it actually work? The only problem I'm having with my mouse is that I have it routed through a hole in my desk and it will like fall through the hole even if i don't want it to. Kinda shitty explanation,,but I think a mouse bungee would fix that.

Fall through hole in desk..?
Not sure what you are trying to say, but my solution basically means no drag on the mouse. There's slight resistance on some movement but negligable amounts and far less than having cable free with any setup and i would imagine far less than with mouse bungee - im pretty sure they are designed for the "average" mouse sens or something, which is far too high. Its also free and takes about five seconds as long as you have 10cm or something of tape.
Seriously no idea how a mouse bungee is supposed to react for any kind of decent (low) mouse sens, i mean they are obviously not made for sub-second 30cm+ movements. Wouldnt that just throw the entire bungee off the desk or add some massive amount of pull on the movement? Not that non-fps warrants those kinds of movements, but it seems overly restrictive even for 800dpi 1920x1080 on an RTS interface.
Sadly pic tells us very little, mechanical keyboard black base white keycaps with stand things on, maybe slight differences in shape or small other details can give it away though. Probably need more info to call it, but im not an expert there

Great job, I was thinking if maybe a mod could give someone who's active control of the OP (like they do with fanclubs) so people don't have to check 37 pages to see if a player is listed.

3.0's are too big for something micro intensive like starcraft. Its more of an FPS mouse because of it being palm grip and how big it is.
I don't agree that size is a factor. The reason it's more suitable for FPS is that the very low DPI range is usually much more suited for FPS. 450 dpi is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too low for any sc2 player unless he's playing with like 800x600 resolution.
And as we hopefully all know by now, compensating by adjusting sensitivity by using the starcraft settings is a bad idea.

They dont react well to you moving the mouse large distances though. It does exactly that, lifts the cord off desk, you have to pull at it (which moves the bungee etc) to make any kind of movement that is not very small
A better word to describe what you're talking about is tension or resistance. In any case, you can add leave enough extra cable past the tip in order to minimize that tension or resistance. This of course applies to most people and not 400-800 dpi that you mentioned earlier.
I completely agree with Cyro, i played a lot of CS before and a mouse bungee is useless when you make large movements. But for smaller movements it feels nice, like your mouse would be cordless. For 9$ this thing is awesome.

true enough I guess, but I've played a lot of quake and even some competitive semi sponsored CS. I could always manage just fine on a 30x20 cm mouse pad, which easily is acommodated by a mouse bungee.
Yes, yes, there is tape. Ninja scotch yo! It's been there for more than a year now. As for the mouse pad size, as you can see, it's ridiculously small, but it fits, even if sometime I do want to get a bigger one, but more for comfort purposes(don't like my wrist resting on cold glass). I didn't use any sort of cable holder before I got my Kana, but for some reason, the wire remains pretty stiff(as you can see the cord makes a sharp angle even while it's hanging, which is really good now I got that thing in place, because I don't feel any drag.) even after months of long gaming sessions, and it has a furious tendency to get stuck everywhere, so I got my tape roll and stuck it in place for good. __ On Subject: Does anyone know if a pro has said he was planning on getting one of those cute new logitechs anytime soon/Commented on it? ... I have been using that same "strategy" for a while now, I believe 2 years, and I use my mouse at around 200 dpi. I feel absolutely no "drag" or whatever you speak of, I personally think that all of that "drag" is a bunch of baloney in order to promote their mouse bungees. Works great for me.

First of all the usuage of the mice is up to whether the pro feels comfortable with it or not. The reason you see no roccat mice is because roccat doenst sponsor any sc2 pro team(i think). While razer is known for their good mice (you could argue about this but most mice are actually pretty decent i never had problems with my mouse and im using it for several years) roccat has kinda a bad reputation. So before everything got sponsored by razer many pros used their logitech mice like the G9 (most of them used them without shell, so did i b4 i even heard of a game called "starcraft" ), wich im getting again btw for me its a great mouse it really fits my style holding the mouse. So what the pros use nowadays (in terms of brands) has little to do with what they think is best. And a mouse that jd or mkp uses is not going to makr you better. Generally there is nothing wrong with roccat mice but i would recommend to read through some comments (amazon for example) before buying it. Most players sponsored by razer use the Abyssus (some the imperator or deathadder), most of the players sponsored by zowie use the mico, some of them just stick with their own mice (most of the time g9) but the moral of the story is dont buy something that your favorite player uses but you dont really feel comfortable with! If you like the roccat mouse buy it if you like the g9 buy that one (but remember to check the reviews and comments ^^ mice are pretty expensive today ) Personally i used my imperator all the time and it was excellent but after several years of testing im going to get a g9 again just because i prefer small mice the imperator i feel like way too much of my hand is using wich for the first part feels strange and for the otherpart is less accurate (for me, there are actually people prefering palm grips^^) M
Are we gonna be able to see one of these things on the scene?
I'm not a pro, but I got my g100s yesterday, will be doing a thorough review on it, though I'd like to wait to start till I get my goliathus for testing purposes. I can say that for Star2 its seems ok so far, but i have a few quips with it.
I assume most korean pros use the g9 without an attached frame/cover. I used it with the anti-sweat grip addon, but imo the CM storm spawn is way better in terms of comfort, and supposedly better accuracy (just got this mouse).

he very well could be, but that doesn't take into account all the other variables like sensitivity, windows or otherwise.

On May 02 2013 04:58 Thor.Rush wrote: Do ALL Koreans use the g9x without the extra grip? Or are there some who use the grip too? Curious to know
The only reason I use the grip is because it makes the side buttons much easier to press. Otherwise, I'd prefer not to have it.
I'm pretty sure they dont use the side buttons at all at least i don't know any pro using it with a grip. Personally i think the mouse buttons are so overrated and are inferior to stuff on the keyboard. I used to have some of my production on the side mouse buttons but its so easier to tab through it with keyboard keys (well spamming would be more accurate but spamming production is a useful talent toi have). I think there are pros using the side mouse buttons but i don't know anyone with the g9 But those are minor differences use what you personally feel comfortable with, i forced myself not to use side mouse buttons again other players forced themselves to used them i think neither of us really regrets it just keep the grip on if you want to use them it wont make you a worse player^^
I only use one side button and it's just for my starport. If I press '6' for my starport and then 'D' or 'V', it's definitely slower than using the mouse button. Example: I press '4' for raxes and 'D' for marauders. Then using the mouse button for medivacs, it's instant and I don't have to move to any keys.
Yeah but imagine you want to produce perfectly you have to spam through your production mosy likely and this something i really like to do and pressing 4567 is easier to coordinate for me and faster than hitting the mouse buttons. I used to have my starport and robo on my mousebuttons but i didnt like it. Sure you can maybe select the starport faster and produce but you have to be more aware when stuff finishes and esp during combat checking production is easier at least for me. Maybe this just cancels out and it really is up to preference but i don't regret anything ;D
I am able to spam all production with keyboard + 1 mouse button. So it works best for me. I think it's just preference like you said. Everyone has their own ways of doing things. Some pros have all production on one hotkey and just tab, which I think is quite inefficient :S..but whatever

Ok great, just saved me some money..don't have to buy a hard pad : )
g9x has a bad sensor - they don't really care about making it worse. They don't really care about anything better than "kinda good" mouse settings either, as has been shown time and time again - i don't know of anyone in the pro scene other than tt1 who goes at all in depth with mouse or sensor performance.
"good" is "good enough" for winning in starcraft 2, it's just not optimal.

In their defense: not everyone is able to recognize that something’s off with the G9x.

I'm not a pro, but I use a no-longer abailable banshee pad, made from anodized aircraft grade aluminum. I also have a steelseries QCK marauder pad, but I'm not as impressed with it as I was with the banshee. The banshee pad is the pinnacle of mousepad design, IMO. Slightly curved, perfect surface, and I've had it for nearly TEN freaking years with only a teeny, tiny wear spot on the edge from my wrist.

I really don't like this topic cause progamers don't have, generaly, the choise of their mouses/pads and even drink. They have to use some thing from their sponsors'team.

Yep. Everyone reading this thread should keep in mind, that a pro-gamer he likes maybe only uses certain hardware, because he is sponsored by X. Plus most pro-gamers know very little about their equipment. SC 2 has not reached the professionalism, regarding equipment, of for example tennis or golf, yet.
A thread which lists the equipment of absolute mouse experts, like for example Cyro, dicedicerevolution, TheToast or wo1fwood would be much more useful than this thread.
I think perfect comfort is more important than a perfect sensor though. Maybe the g9x isn't the best sensor, but that doesn't stop a player like MC from having the most amazing forcefields. Personally, I think it is a fantastic mouse.
I've tried really hard to adapt to my Spawn mouse, but the bulkiness and asymmetrical shape just isn't meant for fingertip grip in a RTS like SC2 imo (though I could probably use it just fine for FPS). I think it's much better for claw grip.
I think perfect comfort is more important than a perfect sensor though. Maybe the g9x isn't the best sensor, but that doesn't stop
I think that's always true to some extent but the avago 9500 is just far too bad - ultimately it's personal, but it becomes a battle of will your comfort allow you to beat my technical superiority? I think the disadvantages on the avago 9500 are too big to overcome in that case. Inconsistency of up to 7%? If you snap 1000 pixels, that's missing your target by up to 70 pixels. What if the distance from the center of the target to missing it is less than half of that? Even with the perfect movement of the mouse, you literally can't hit the target consistently. Unless you always move the mouse at exactly the same speed, you have to literally guess somewhere in the middle of the up/down curve and hope that you hit, cause you could be plus or minus 35 pixels from the middle of the curve
will your comfort allow you to beat my technical superiority?
Probably not, but do you think it really matters for SC2? I'm not so sure when I see pros using what seems like flawless control, but maybe you're right.
It's not really good accuracy, by elite standards - micro could be a lot better. If everyone stopped putting up with awful mouse sensors and was educated some about better settings, the average and highest level of play in starcraft would probably go up by quite a lot
Yeah, hopefully mouse standards will improve in the future. Btw, is there a ranking/list of mice with the best sensors? Googling it just comes up with really crappy lists lol.
The CM spawn issue was fixed, but too late; They discontinued it in europe due to poor sales.
Very sad, considering it was good enough to really get noticed, and get on lists like that.
Hopefully they don't leave the v2 with fatal issues (systemwide performance halting) for a year and a half and then cancel that one too because nobody is buying it; their primary market seems to be the kind of enthusiasts who would be aware of such problems before laying down money
I don't think that the level of sc2 will go up by quite a lot if people start using more accurate mice, precision isn't as important in sc2 I think things like having a good feeling with the shape or the buttons is much more important. If you have for example a mico and you feel good with it do you think changing it for a mouse with a better sensor will help you to improve your gameplay significantly? hum not at all I think

I don't know what the mouse is (their website says Sensei RAW). But it's definitely the 6G v2. He also removes the - key so you can see the Cherry MX Red switch too.

Still looking for something with the same shape but a better sensor but for now I don't think it matters much, I see pros using the sensei and winning tournaments (even if they are forced to by sponsors) I think I will manage in diamond.
So I searched for a "What keyboard does your favourite pro-gamer use?" and I couldn't find it... so I'm gonna ask here does anyone know what keyboard STX Soul's INnoVation uses? I know he uses the G9X mouse but can't figure out his keyboard... is that a Leopold FC700R??
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I found a site that has them in stock, and can someone tell me what's the difference between MX Cherry Blue and Red for example?? In the pictures I can see 0 difference maybe, they are just general pics.

blue or red is the switches, how the keys feel to press. Put "cherry mx guide" into google for an explanation of each.

I don't know what is headfi forum... Audio equipement is not really cheap for audiophiles that want really good quality so i don't get what you meant either.
Am i being trolled ? Or do i just not get what this guys said ?
i answered your question with "ofc". the rest is just add-on

ofc. actually none of the gaming gear is high quality, especially not headphones. it's all just major snake-oil, the filcos, the leopolds, the razers, the steelseries ... all overpriced xD and in the end it doesn't even matter with what you equipment you play (ofc not a joystick or a $1 wooden mouse), people who tell you differently are lying to you, straight up your face.
the question is, do we like that stuff? hell YEAH, just like the audiophiles over at the headfi forums like their overpriced audio equipment.

I am sorry but i did not understand a word about what you say....
Was it sarcasm ? The question wasn't "do we like that stuff?". The question was : "I am curious to know if there is known gamer with normal peripherals instead of gaming's one". Oh ok. Sorry. So can you name some ? i'm curious
The QSENN DT-35 keyboard that all BW players played with and a lot of MVP (eg. DRG, Losira) and some IM players still play with is not exactly a gaming keyboard, just a cheap membrane keyboard with good tactile response. Same goes for the Logitech Mini Optical mouse or the widely praised Microsoft Windows Mouse Optical and Intellioptical. Nerchio also plays with some generic A4tech keyboard with flat keys.

Wouldn't call a A4keyboard generic i think they do nice keyboard no ?
I didn't know some where still using their bw equipement. that's cool to know ^^ (don't ask me why i'm just curious) ^^ Thank you
I might completely wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure most players who used to play on a DT-35 are now all using mech boards. It's pretty rare to see those DT-35 nowadays.

Quite a number still favours qsen dt 35 forgg, kangho, DRG, bisu

Mouse is much less important in moba i think. It doesn't demand the best equipment, so people will use whatever sponsors throw at them. They do that even in sc2, which is less forgiving of fringe sensitivities, acceleration or otherwise breaking muscle memory with adjustments
Not sure if it's still worth switching from an MX518 to a Deathadder considering the 518 shell makes my hand hurt (too small I guess; my G500 didn't give me any problems) after a few games.

Not sure about mouse accuracy being less important in MOBAs. Especially in the lategame, a missclick can definitely lose your team a teamfight and the game thereafter, just like it can do for any engagement in sc2.

Maybe I'm just too much of a penny pincher :o
If it's making your hands hurt, you should switch. Deathadder isn't that much bigger though, but differently shaped.

It just seems much much easier on the mouse for me. I can change settings and play LoL fine but it kills me in SC2/FPS. Maybe because you're not having to click quickly on small things for most of the game, movement is very lax and there's a lot of downtime. It's not like being thrown into sc2 and immediately being forced to stack workers, maybe that's just adjustment period

Screenshot or game when you could see it?
Wasn't thinking about getting proof, I'll look though vods when they're up.
No stress, I'm just curious whether quantic actually managed to force the Koreans to use the sponsor hardware. Usually the Koreans are more reluctant in that regard.

Yeah thanks. Got a DA. Shape is better now. Played more than a few games of Dota2 - pain not there.
MX518 moved to the other PC for now, replacing a partially busted G5.
I honestly wouldn't care about how much nicer the nonS stuff looks - this is after having a G500 dying on me within 1.5 years of use (double click of death)

Got the G100s to replace my G1, certainly takes time to adjust to the surface of the mouse, quite slippery with the matte surface. How long does will the mouse feet last ? On a QCK pad.

That's from stork's stream, are those white keys custom or is there a retail celeritas that looks like this?
The blue, pink and white-coloured Celeritas are sold with white keycaps, the black one with blacks. It could be that he just swapped them with somebody. The mouse is a logitech g1 btw.
