This was posted on BlizzPlanet.com, dont know if there is another thread already (I did a search and didnt find anything)

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime announced a few weeks ago at the Activision Blizzard Conference Call during E3 that StarCraft II Beta would start this summer. Today, the Gaming Press Sites awakened fans with the news that Blizzard has contacted all of them by email to alert them to set up their Battle.net account by Friday, June 19th (deadline). Does this mean beta starts this weekend? A week later?
The answer is not that simple. No date was provided to the press, but it is exciting to know it is gonna frag everyone any second after June 19th. It is interesting how the news got leaked today, which marks the last day of school classes throughout United States. Something fans should know is that, around last month, the media was invited to visit Blizzard Headquarters this June 22nd. The OCRegister Blizzard Blog among them.
StarCraft II Beta is imminent. Are you ready?
* Crave (CNET) * Kotaku
Can it be only a week away??

God I hope so so much that it will be out in a week. I want it with all my body especially my pee pee.

P.S. I can't wait to start yoga next year.

Truth. But I cant do either without a beta key.

Ugh i hope they start the ironman tournament soon, it would suck to win a beta key and be weeks late.

I question the necessity of inviting so many unheard-of third-tier websites. Like how does Blizzard even find out about them? :x
Whatever. Waiting for a more official Blizzard announcement on this.

did you not get a beta E-mail from opt in already? I guess you dont get one then ^^

I don't know about you guys but I'm happy about this leak lol

beta opt-in emails have NOT been sent out yet. The only ones sent were for well-known players (Nony, etc) or well-known community helpers (nazgul, chill), or big gaming websites (like the ones listed here).. All which say to send them their account name, so they can bypass the opt-in.
|
holy crap, this is really interesting news. So, maybe on june 22nd we may get the beta?

Oh I know, but he hasnt done so much in the past 2-3 years, other than mainly helping out on here, which is why I included him there. I used to play with nazgul back in the Ladder Challenges days.
edit (i mean he hasnt done much on BW in the past 2-3 years to warrant a beta key, esp when other top players who have been active in the past 2-3 years didnt get invites, thats what i mean)

I remember reading somewhere that beta keys will be released for the US first. Wonder how long it will take to roll out in Europe.

BTW.. This email is most likely fake, since Blazur (of bnet SC2GDF) is the one who apparently reported the email.. So yeh, dont believe it.. Damn, it would be nice if it was true which would mean beta soon, but since its fake its quite dissapointing =/
|
Europe will be receiving Beta Keys after Korea. So expect 3 months after a US Release.
|
not everyone who plays SC is in high school..
|
wont be 3 months after, Europe will probably get it 2-3 weeks after US.
Damn fake emails from this idiot Blazur kid has to stop. esp Starcraftwire for keep on reporting info from him. its so lame.
|
please wait 2 weeks, PLEASE!! haha shit, i have some schoolwork to do, if the beta comes out now, who knows, how much my school will suffer

|
Yeah I dunno how reliable the source is... I really hope that its true though.
Edit:
We’ll be heading over to Blizzard’s Irvine campus Monday, June 22, to get a hands-on with the single-player campaign for “StarCraft II.” We’ll let you know how it looks and plays, and we’ll be sure to try to drag as much info as we can out of whoever gets to shepherd us around the building. (We’ve also been offered an interview or two with game creators, which may prove to be somewhat more fruitful.)
* BlizzPlanet’s interview with Christie Golden, author of the upcoming “StarCraft” novel, “The Dark Templar Saga: Twilight” went off without a hitch. Not only did they get fan-submitted questions answered, but they also got some new information on the game world. BlizzPlanet

This was posted on SC2Armory.com.... it shows that there really hasnt been any confirmation yet.
Recently, several news sites have reported that Blizzard has sent an e-mail to several game writer, notifying them to register a Battle.net account by June 19th. One of the sources of this news is the gaming website Kotaku which had this to say:
Quote by Kotaku Blizzard is starting to gear up for the StarCraft II Beta, the company said recently in an email sent out to game writers.
The email, which asks game writers to make sure they have a Battle.Net account set up and a request in, says that Blizzard has no date yet to announce for the start of the beta. The email ends, however, by saying that all Battle.net account login info for game writers needs to be sent to Blizzard by June 19.
Sounds like reason enough for me to start getting excited.
Other websites that have notified the public of the same thing are CNET and Gaming Shogun. However, due to a lack of an official confirmation, the possibility remains that the e-mail is an elaborate hoax. We will keep you updated on the matter.
Special thanks to Mr.Edgeworth, Darcy and Oin for discovering the news. Thanks also goes to Perfecttear for providing additional sources.

Blizzard is using a different system for the top of the top... they are skipping the beta opt in process that most of us have to use. I dont know the specifics but there were posts around the internet about how they want to streamline the process for the top sites/players.

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/48287/StarCraft-II-Beta-Starting-Up-Pretty-Soon
As mentioned around the interwebs Blizzard is getting the wheels rolling on the StarCraft II beta by getting the press signed up. I wasn't sure if it was kosher to mention the beta stuff, but the cat is pretty much out of the bag at this point. Oh, and yes, in case you're wondering -- we're all signed up and ready to go. There is no NDA for the beta once it launches, so expect tons of goodness to emerge once we begin.
What's ve3d? I never visit them but I assume this is still ign -_-

No, it was a Korean blue that stated that BR3 was before beta, not a North American one. So technically the 3rd BR could fall after the North American/Australian beta and before the Korean.

Yeah Blizzard has a big press conference with a bunch of gaming sites on Monday (tomorrow) it looks like. Its 10:30 pm Cali time as I post this, so expect some sort of news in about 16-18 hours... No telling what the news will be, but we'll see.

Very very hard to say, the little sc2 beta picture seems kinda random and ugly why would they add it. But besides that the picture looks reallly there is seriously NOTHING that makes this picture look like a photoshop except that little ugly green beta picture in the corner I think. I'm totally not an expert at this =p. Also one of the repliers The_Earth from when i was a noob at battle.net forums is pretty trustful from what I read 0o.
AND also the fact that the site went down for maintenance + the press conference it all adds up. I wouldn't be surprised if beta would come this week.
ORRRRRRRRRRR
It is just a fake and I got my hopes up again but I don't care at all because i rather feel happy that beta could come tomorrow then the feeling i have to wait for another month.
|
|
the only thing that looks possibly fake to me is that that t and a in beta are 0 pixels apart. the fact that the e and t are 0 pixels apart isn't out of the ordinary as many combinations of letters + t are 0 pixels apart on that page (the capital s and t in starcraft for example). still im leaning towards fake
|
Yea, I noticed this on the battle.net forums earlier today. Interesting stuff, though whether it's real or not is a different story. Until I hear something from Blizzard themselves I'm not going to get my hopes up. There seems to be heaps of people on various forums posting "evidence" that it's a fake.
|
How many hours for the press conference? :S The beta forum is simply fake.
|
Does anyone even know when the press conf. will be held?

A Forum is always there, it's easier to lay out ground points, feedback and internal affairs on there for easier access then just have a bunch of notes to the meetings n such, also the friends and family beta people need a place to talk on, so a beta forum is always there.

This is a pretty convincing demonstration that it's a fake
"Ok I stayed up thirty minutes longer than I had wanted. I am 100% sure this is a fake and that the_earth, Searingshow, Babykrune, and Dr4goN (From SCWire) are in on it. This could provide evidence that some of these accounts are alts of each other. I can also tell you that it was faked using image editing and not through html/css.
To see why, you must understand a little bit about how the background for this page is generated and how it fits inside the boxes that contain the forum categories. The background is one image, approx 200x200 that has all the elements this background needs. Using css, they slice it up to create sub images of the little doodads you see along the borders. These are exactly the same image, repeated along the borders at a precise pixel interval.
Now, these boxes with the forums are on a separate layer and contain no background at all. The borders are made of four dom elements, one for each side. On the inside of these, you will see the background shown through because there is nothing on the layer above them to need its own background.
Proof 1) Measure the distance between the doodad on the right with 3 (and a small faint one on top to make 4) horizontal lines. It appears every 1.5 inches or so (depending on screen size). On the provided screenshot, it appears again on the added box, exactly the same way it appears from the third forum in the D2 section. 2) Now also notice that below that, there is a larger gap than usual to the next three line doodad. This is due to stretching the image vertically at that insertion point.
If you would like to see how the borders really change when you add or remove one of these elements, download firebug, go to the forum page and open firebug with the inspect tool. Click on a box, then in the firebug panel below delete one of the divs associated with a sub forum box. You can always do the same thing with the css on the right of the panel and increase the size, to see how they get shifted down. It does not match the behavior shown in the screenshot. "
