After a 2-1 loss at the hands of Polish Protoss Kristianer in the latest EPT EU cup, Psistorm's MaxPax record-breaking pvp run has finally ended at 39 matches.
The Danish protoss had been unbeaten in mirror matches since September, recording the longest matchup streak in professional Starcraft 2 history.
In doing so, he surpassed the previous record of 36 straight zvp victories of Serral in 2020. While MaxPax did not quite manage to match Serral's winning streak, giving out a 1-1 draw to Stats in WTL, he easily surpassed his rival's winning percentage. He flew almost 10 percentage points above Serral, with an unbelievable 91,4% map win rate during his era of dominance.
Those who hope the surprising upset he suffered to end his streak just short of 40 indicate a newfound weakness will likely be disappointed. MaxPax holds a 92-8 record over his last 100 pvp, a match-up long derided for being the most random SC2 had to offer, and there's little to believe anyone has figured out a stable answer to his trademark one-gate expand opening. We'll have to wait and see if he can someone one-up his record in the months to come.
For now though; the king is dead, long live the king.

I remember playing vs MaxPax in 2016-2017, he was a mass carriers one-trick pony in PvT back then, and now he is top 2 Protoss in the world (online), impressive
Krystianer upset is that much more impressive given MaxPax's insane streak

not quite comparable cause there weren't weekly ept cups back then where most of the early round opponents are walkovers. still insane though, for someone following the scene for over 12 years, mirror matchups esp pvp have always been perceived as coin flippy. hes the first player to show that it is skill based if your brain is big enough. it's sad that his streak was broken by a not premier player though..

There is no transitivity rule in sc, MaxPax can lose to Krystianer 5% of the time, doesn’t mean Clem’s Protoss is better
It’s probably 55-45 for Clem’s P vs Krystianer

True. I think we shouldn't compare directly with Maru's TvT, Cure's TvP or Serral's ZvP matchup streak since their results have been mixed with offline matches as well.

You forgot the eternal rule of PvP (its a fucking stupid mu mostly) so more Like 50/50

If you re in a range of like 500 MMR to each other, your Chance of winning a PvP is 50%.
Unless you re playing vs MaxPax, wich makes his streak so much more impressive.
There have allways been 2 matchups that were regarded especially coin flipy; ZvZ and PvP. Now Max has found a solution to it, the 1 gate expand. He plays that opener for multiple years over multiple patches now.
But no other Protoss is good enough with that build to replicate it.
He is the only one who isn t dieing against random bulshit when he does it. He is just SO good in these scenarios and no other Protoss seem to be able to figure out how to replicate it.
