According to his own Twitter, Nice has left KaiZi Gaming. He was one of two acquisitions of high-profile Chinese players before last season of the GTC (the other being TIME).

He counted as Chinese for the purposes of GTC.

Nice is pretty strong by himself and he would be an invaluable addition to any Tteam interested to join GTC. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get picked up very soon!

I could see why as with TIME on KZ, the existence of Nice isn't a necessity.

It's complicated and gets companies in trouble all the time and/or celebrities blacklisted from China for having the Taiwan flag with them. Anytime a Company doesn't include Taiwan on maps of china they have to apologize profusely for it (mostly clothing companies I think.)

The short explanation is China claims it as part of China in spite of the fact they've never set foot on Taiwan and Taiwan generally sees itself as a seperate entity. there's only like around 15 countries that have official diplomatic relations with Taiwan because China refuses to have anything to do with countries that do and well China's economy is way bigger than Taiwan's obv. For international events such as the Olympics Taiwan enters either Chinese Taipei or China if China isn't entering themselves.

Hopefully I didn't mess any of that stuff up.

You forget the most important thing, both the PRC and ROC claim to be the real China. The split arise at the end of the Chinese civil war where the CCP won in the mainland while the defeated KMT retreated to Taiwan.

For most international organizations, PRC stands for the region that includes mainland, HK, Macau and TW
if you want to mention, Nice is from Taiwan, it may cause confuse to others, because no one would say Time is from Beijing, and iG.XY is from Wuhan, also Macsed from Shanghai.
There is also a simple way, you can say he is from ROC, which in nowadays, people can clearly know which region it is.

But the common sense in every situation, there is only one China, other it is called PRC or ROC, but only one

Completely agreed. Maybe better example would be if we called american players by state in USA they are reside in.

Do people from Taiwan refer to themselves as "chinese" or would they say "I am taiwanese"? Or both? Which one is preferred?

Wikipedia had a 2013 poll at 77 percent. the most recent poll I could find was from last fall and found the following.

The U.S.-based Pew Research Center found that 66% view themselves as Taiwanese, 28% as both Taiwanese and Chinese and 4% as just Chinese. The telephone poll of 1,562 people, conducted last fall, has a margin of error of 3.2 percentage points." 83 percent among young people though.

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/poll-taiwanese-distance-themselves-from-chinese-identity/

as for skipping the history of it yeah I wasn't sure how much detail to go into. I'm not super informed an the whole real China part of it. I think the ROC was viewed internationally as the real China until the 70s and Nixon's whole visit to China and normal relations with the PRC led to the switch at least internationally.

I'm not from the area so I'm really not sure what the proper way to describe where he's from is. Regarding states in the US at least form my experience we don't really uses states that much to describe people unless it's like Hawaii which is very unique. personally I'd be more likely to use regions or areas (ie midwest/west/ north east/south.) Not sure how that would apply to China though

Honestly this is not the place to discuss the Taiwan conflict. So let me just say that most people (especially younger generations) from Taiwan will prefer to be called Taiwanese, which is also the case for Nice, who also prominently states it in his Twitter Bio. Which is why I wanted to point it out.

And Taiwan is not generally part of China. That would imply that we are part of the PRC. Would you say Canada is generally part of the USA? Taiwan or ROC if you prefer that term and China are two seperate entities. Yes, there are historical ties but the PRC never controlled Taiwan.

PRC strictly refers to PRC for most international organizations. Taiwan is simply not represented in most of them due to political pressure from Beijing. And the term ROC is still unfamiliar with many people, usually Taiwan (ROC) works best.

If anyone really wants to discuss this further, you should probably just take this to DM with me. This is a discussion about Nice and his potential new team not for the Taiwan issue.

Yes, political issue is best not to be discussed in game forum, since most of the information provided by users (including myself) is not adequate, complete or unbiased. If any person really want to know more about this china / taiwan issue, it would be best to find more information via proper history resources (wikipedia, or news channel are not adequate for this kind of information [unless you are willing to invest a lot of time into watching / reading and verifying information form various news outlets]).

There are various argument(s) on whether taiwan is part of china or not (both for and against). But one thing for sure is that whatever rule it was based on, it almost always have exception / discrepancy / contradiction on the said rule. It is because of the true nature of international law, which is the law is laid down by the entity which have the most power, and a lot of time those are bs that fit the entity's need at the time.

It would probably be better if the mod can close this thread so that it won't devolve into a trolling / flaming thread.

The first person to stand up and guide the topic came out and said that the discussion was meaningless. That is not funny.

Such topic should not be discussed here.
If you really care about Nice you should not bring this topic, Mainland Chinese has basically zero tolerance on Taiwan problem.
If Nice said anything like that in public, he can never find a GTC team.
