pretty interesting how EG was aggressively trying to recruit all the biggest name transitioning into BW.

On a related note I noticed TY was a lot more charismatic and articulate in his first interview after he began casting--the interview after he topped his GSL group.

TaekBangLeeSsang, it's a reference to the names of Bisu (Kim Taek Yong), Stork (Song Byung Goo), Flash (Lee Young Ho), and Jaedong (Lee Jae Dong). Taek references Bisu, Bang references Stork (an alternative pronunciation of Byung I think), and Lee Ssang means "the two Lees," Jaedong and Flash.

He made 1 GSL Ro16, at a time where the racial distribution in the Ro32 was 14 Protoss 4 Terran 14 Zerg. Most interesting part of the story here for me is how Flash values the non-Korean tournaments in SC2 very highly.

TBLS could be a reference to period of dominance that Bisu, Stork, Jaedong and Flash as a group had during Starcraft:BroodWar between 2007-2012 when they ruled the keSPA rankings, the shorthand of TBLS comes from TaekBangLeeSsang, or 택뱅리쌍 which is a amalgamation of their real native names.

He's doing pretty damn well, considering he is back from military service for only a year, if even that. He chose SC2 over BW cause he enjoys it more, although he knows there'd prob be more money in BW, which I find quite admirable.

I was looking at the ASL roster, and it's the same names from a decade ago.. all the 18 year old pro players are now 28 year olds. There's no new young blood entering the starcraft scene in Korea. This is true for Sc2, if you speak of BW I guess there would be new blood or amateurs trying to break through but the old pros are just way superior; koreans would surely give a better answer to this question, of course.

It seems too difficult to bridge the gap between people who were in full time gaming for years, with periods in team houses for those coming after to bridge. Also as many hypothesised, previous understandings of the period of viability age wise for players to remain at the top seem to be way off, and players can continue way past their early 20s and into their 30s. I imagine many players historically did drop off in this period either because they got results and money and prestige etc, so their motivation to stick with team house regimes dropped, or they didn’t get results and had bills to pay. It makes sense that pro gamers can stick a restrictive training regime in their teens when they’re not delaying future careers too much, can earn some money in a hobby, are too young to be really wanting families etc. Europe at present seems to be the only region that has a decent balance, established long term names still play seriously, but aren’t dominant enough to prevent the next generation giving full time play a proper go in their late teens, and the younger generation (not just Serral and Reynor) have established themselves

Bw has much much more interest and money in korea, and even lesser streamers with 20 something viewers are making living due to its sponsor match systems, as opposed to individual tournament result based sc2 I'm not hating on sc2. Its a fact when people say fantasy chose sc2 over bw despite difference in money involved

Remember that this is the StarCraft 2 forum which means some people only know how to play StarCraft 2. Bisu/Stork/Flash/Jaedong are mostly relevant in BW.

Hey, I was aware of them being referenced as top4 with their Korean names, just not abbreviated to TBLS. Please forgive me, masters of one true game.

Probably related to stress? For example, military soon and stress related to what he'll be doing after SC, but I don't follow his stream to guess better.

Nowhere near morbidly obese like you're insinuating. Plus I don't think he'd be the kind of coward to try to get out of his service, do you?
