Stats isn't even underrated. He's considered as the best protoss along with Classic. Serral beating Stats was considered a massive upset; it feels like the writer doesn't think highly of Stats. It wasn’t a massive upset, a lot of people liquidbetted it (I did so I could see I didn’t gain much places after Serral victory). Stats is one of the best Protosses as always but Serral was top 3 Zerg world after his runs at the time.

Aside from that wild "Nerchio" that popped on the link in the main page, very well written!
Rooting for Stats atm, will be happy to see a Toss player besides $o$ win Blizzcon. One of the most stable players out there.

Dream Blizzcon scenario: Stats beats Maru in the semi and revenge on Serral in the finals.

I have to agree that Stats is pretty underrated. I think it can fairly be said that Stats is the greatest LotV player. Also, I hope him and Dark go far in Blizzcon; they quietly have a really good rivalry.

I think they picked it because GSL v World is basically the mini-Blizzcon. It's one of the only opportunities to pit the best foreigners against best Koreans in the year now - also I would argue that if Stats could claim to be the only player that Serral couldn't beat in 2018, that would indeed have helped him assert his legacy. Instead he remains one of a long list of Koreans that Serral has bested this year.

It is not that long, INno Dark and Stats.

Serral won 27/44 of his offline games against Koreans this year. That's impressive but players like Maru, TY, Rogue and Classic all have similar win-rates, but over a larger amount of games. So I can't really see why one would think he is the best in the world at least quantitatively. If I had to say, I think he is probably like the 4th or 5th best player in the world at the moment but I think saying he is 2nd best is fair.

I feel like the author of this piece is getting his framing from some time in the past. I've viewed Stats as a top contender for every tournament he participates in for ages; not the top contender all that often, but if whoever is being hyped up fails to deliver then it's a fair bet that Stats is right there to pick up a win.
