Shows you at what level we consider Maru to be when he plays soO and then most likely Zest and Stats and everyone agrees it should be easy for him.

I mean soO just went 0-4 against Major and Keen, who are miles below Maru on their best day. Even Rogue said today how he kept losing to Maru in practice. If Rogue is consistently losing, what hope does soO have? About the only thing we can say for soO is that at least it's not the finals.

As for Stats and Zest, Maru's shelf has got two shiny GSL trophies on it, courtesy of Stats and Zest. Stats couldn't beat Maru even before the marauder buff, and Zest couldn't even take a game off him after it.

I'm not denying that it's supposed to be easy for Maru, but on the flip-side, for every other player in GSL vs the World, playing soO/Zest/Stats wouldn't be anywhere near as easy.

I hope INno gets past Rogue. Seeing him face Serral would be a lot more instructive than seeing Rogue and Serral toss coins.

If Inno beats Rogue he's not losing to any other Zerg. That's a pretty big if though.

Also Maru has an almost absurdly easy path to the finals.

Rogue's ZvT is overrated. He's very clutch and capable of winning when it matters, but he's not bullet-proof in the match-up. If you look at online events (where Rogue admittedly under-performs) his win-rate is much worse than Dark's against a comparable pool of players because of that.

Besides the word I used was instructive, and seeing INno bop Serral would be instructive.

Eh I dunno, I'm an Inno fan and I give him 50/50 at best against Rogue.

While I do agree that Rogue's ZvT is somewhat overrated, that doesn't override the fact that he is hella strong against Terran, especially in the lategame. He's not invincible, but he is really, really hard to kill. Not to mention, Rogue has the considerable advantage of practicing with Maru, and if anyone can find/exploit flaws in TvZ it's Maru. Rogue has gotten incredibly good at surviving Terran pressure.

Just look at Keen today, for example, who was doing an excellent job of pressuring in the early/mid game. He killed a bunch of drones, killed a few bases, and kept most of his army alive. What good did it do? Rogue hunkered down, weathered the beating, and blew Keen sky-high with mass banes. Major didn't fare any better.

Granted, Inno is a lot better than Keen or Major. But he lost to Rogue last GSL, and the games weren't all that close either. I think Inno's one spot of hope is the fact that it's a Bo5 with plenty of prep time. Inno's always been good at preparing builds, especially TvZ builds (refer to Inno vs Dark Ro4 last year). He's had plenty of success in starleague series over the years, whereas Rogue, conversely, is strongest in the weekender format and has always struggled in starleagues. The first Super Tournament had the same situation as GSL vs the World, and Inno 3-1 Rogue was the result. Also mentally speaking, Rogue doesn't seem at his best either. It's been awhile since his last big win, he expressed frustration today about his ZvT, and he was complaining about practice boredom/fatigue on Inno's stream the other day.

That being said, this is Season 3 Inno and the current GSL vs the World champion thanks to an insanely dominant run last year. His form is looking much improved from the lackluster showings he had earlier this year. Thanks to today's GSL group, he's got a lot more material of Rogue's to study than the other way around. I fully expect it to be a nailbiting series full of great games, and it's anyone's guess as to who walks away victorious.

On a separate note, Rogue is one of those players for whom I pretty much completely discount online results. He went 0-2 against Bunny hours before he completely smashed Keen and Major just today. To be fair, Inno has a bit of a similar thing going on. Gumiho commented at Blizzcon how online Inno is completely different than offline Inno.

I still think they should match a GSL players against a world player for every ro16 match.
Would make the ro8 greater aswell if the foreigners could be purged after the first round!

Maybe, just maybe, soO, or Stats, or Zest, will pull off the upset of the year and topple an arrogant, complacent Maru from his throne. Miracles have happened before. But this would have to be one hell of a miracle.

that's what he meant, for most other players it would be a hard path (well, maybe excluding soO) but seeing how Maru has matched up against those players so far this year it seems like a walk in the park for him.

Ah ok, I thought Elentos was complaining about how the community is overhyping Maru. My mistake.

Either way Gyuri needs to draw better brackets. It's GSL vs the World and she's making Serral play Kelazhur.

Honestly, I think Serral and Scarlett have a reasonable shot at the finals against Maru. Bit more likely it's gonna be Dark or Rogue there instead, but this doesn't strike me as a foreigner blowout like last year.

Also a possibility that Bogus is back in action. It's about that time of year for him to awaken, in which case things could become very interesting.

(T)Maru 3-0 (Z)soO
(P)ShoWTimE 1-3 (P)Zest
(P)Stats 3-0 (P)Cyan
(T) Special 3-1 (P)Has

(Z)Serral 3-0 (T)Kelazhur
(Z)Rogue 3-2 (T)Bogus
(P)Neeb 1-3 (Z)Dark
(P)Classic 2-3 (Z)Scarlett

(T)Maru 3-1 (P)Zest
(T)Special 1-3 (P)Stats
(Z)Serral 3-2 (Z)Rogue
(Z)Dark 3-1 (Z)Scarlett

(T)Maru 3-1 (P)Stats
(Z)Serral 1-3 (Z)Dark

(T)Maru 4-2 (Z)Dark

Rip foreigners?!
Serral won't prove himself against a Korean until the Quarter-finals, and then it's against two of the most respected players in their races, I'm not betting on Neeb when Dark has a perfect record on him, neither am I betting on Special/Has against Stats or Showtime against Zest
