Welcome to this month's top streamers list! Thanks for the feedback you gave me last month - here we go for December 2017...

Highlights
  • Last month I reported Infinite as being #1 by a surprisingly large margin. It turns out YouTube changed the way they report stream viewers a while ago and the numbers were off because of that. This has now been (retro-actively) corrected. Furthermore, this was actually a BW stream, so I've excluded it from the SC2 stats.

  • New in the top 10 is Russian (?) streamer MedoedTV, who has seemingly built quite a following on YouTube over the past few months. He's come as high as #2, narrowly pushing PiG one place down, though he's still a ways from threatening Winter's claim on the top spot.

  • BaseTradeTV dominates the top events for December, ending the year with two high-profile events that got quite a few viewers: their own BaseTradeTV StarLeague and the PeopleImages StarCraft League. Wardi also continues his rise to the top, getting good numbers for his weekly events.

  • Generally speaking, viewer numbers in 2017 were down compared to 2016, but the difference was quite small. The year had a particularly strong finish, which can undoubtedly be attributed to the game becoming free-to-play last November. If that trend continues we can look forward to a good year for SC2, at least concerning live streams, but we'll have to see whether the move to F2P has any real lasting impact on that front.

  • As always, suggestions and requests are welcome!

Huh? What's this?
I run Fuzic - which collects statistics and rankings of StarCraft II live streams - and these threads are a summary of the viewer numbers for the past month.

Data is sourced from fuzic, and additional up-to-date stats may be found there. But in these threads - which I will try to post at the beginning of every month - there will be a monthly summary so you can get a quick overview of that month's viewer numbers.

Inclusion criteria
The rankings list any stream that is reported on by the APIs of the various streaming services (Twitch, Azubu, etc). I have no way of verifying to what extent someone's viewers are legitimate, and therefore will not independently ban someone from the rankings. Please do not start a(nother) discussion about this in this thread.

The lists
"VxH", or "hours viewed" is the average amount of viewers multiplied by the amount of hours the streamer has streamed during that month. Basically, if for each viewer you count the amount of hours they watched the stream during the month, and add them up, you get this number. The list is sorted by this metric, as it gives a good impression of the streamer's activity through the month.

You can click the links below the charts for additional stats and a list you can sort by whichever metric you prefer.

Winter does a lot of VODcasts while he is offline, I think those are counted into the statistics as well.

Also, Day[9] streamed SC2 again and I didn't even notice... Only for 7 hours though, probably monobattles or something. Still impressive that he gets into the Top20 with that.

Yep, vodcasts count as well, since people still need to actively tune in to watch them.

Streamers should stream without webcam. Stephano did once without it, he had ~1400 the whole time. Byun did once with webcam, ~1100 viewers, he usually have ~2200.

So weird to see Day9 in the list. I guess those 7 hours will be it for another year or so.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Did Day9 ever 'explain' why he kinda stopped casting SC2? I understand that Hearthstone, HOTS and other games are more 'profitable' and he's got to make a living. But was there ever an explanation/reasoning given to his sc2 fans as to why he stopped?

at the time of halting his SC2 shows he was using his brain power to make an RTS that was supposed to compete with SC2. If he had an SC2 based RTS show the ideas the company he worked for would inevitably get discussed so he had to do casts that don't involve RTS at all. They prolly wanted their core vision and concepts under wraps until beta.

that's my guess.

Oh yeah, whatever happened with that game? I remember seeing some alpha footage and hearing Day9 left the team and then nothing.

MCanning is 21? Just missed the list.

Why is Winter by far the most watched? His stream seems pretty good but what is he doing that no one else is?

User was warned for this post

In the past it was proven that his stream had viewbots but we don't know if he was viewbotting himself or someone else viewbotted him.
Now his stream is either legit or the viewbotter improved his method to make it less obvious.
And since there's no evidence he's treated like he's legit
