In what was arguably the group of death of this year's third GSL season, elite Zergs  soO, Dark and Rogue, as well as lone Protoss  Classic, battled to find out which two players would move on to the Round of 8.
After mirrored starts, soO's mutalisks and roaches dove on Dark's hydralisks to put him ahead 1-0. Dark’s lurkers evened the series, but in game three, soO killed Dark's natural with a twelve pool. While Dark maxed on roach/baneling first, soO’s superior upgrades earned him the victory.
Rogue won game one after killing 57 workers and two of Classic's bases with hydra/ling/bane. Classic went for a gold base on Odyssey, but it was scouted right away. While he survived the initial queen/roach attack, Rogue's follow-up zerglings completed the 2-0.
Rogue dropped the first game against soO to burrowed roaches, but took the second after his three hatchery gold base Zergling build overwhelmed his opponent. Rogue delayed his third in game three, but a roach/ling timing killed 25 of soO’s drones and set up a kill move which saw Rogue through.
Classic went down 0-1 after a failed charge/archon timing. Having scouted Classic's researching twilight council, Dark's Zerglings prevented Classic from taking his third while hydralisks and queens held at home before a counterattack set up a rematch against soO.
soO won game one despite losing eleven drones to baneling drops, but lost his advantage after a long battle featuring lurkers and ravagers on both sides. soO went for three hatchery zergling pressure in game three, but Dark held, built a larger roach army and booked his ticket to the Round of 8.

Awwww lost the hype for soO getting another silver medal. If he had gotten first place it would have been such a perfect setup for it to happen again, then lose the finals to innovation! Who do I want to see win now? Winner of sos and solar I guess?

All those matches were just excellent.
Among others, the control level of the lings-banes was truly astonishing.

I don't want to repeat the same criticism, but personally, I look for the recaps not to know how the games went and which strats were used, but more so to know which games are worth seeing, since Recommended games polls are rare nowadays on the discussions threads. I, for one, would love if the recaps were more along these lines. Right now it feels too clinical.

I'll second this one here! It feels like the writers are more than happy to highlight funny moments (e.g. sOs gold base 50 zealot no attack) but not great moments/games. Could do with a bit of both

Well he made a breakthrough in tournament results in 2016, before that, he basically get around R16 most of the time.

He already has more than enough points that he is mathematically guaranteed to be within the top 8, despite not having a direct seed. Inno is in the same boat; there simply aren't enough remaining WCS points for either of them to drop below 8th place.

I thought they would've at least been decent friends since they were on SKT together for several years. I know that Inno/soO/Classic are very close, so I just kinda assumed Dark would be in that group too. IIRC Inno and Dark are friends, why would soO not be?
EDIT: Oh, and soO was pissed at Dark for helping Stats practice for the S1 Finals, which I thought implied the soO-Dark connection at least existed, even if it wasn't particularly strong.

I misinterpreted what was said because the post was made in reference to another post but not quoting it (so it was unclear to me). soO and Dark are on good terms, I was assuming he was talking about soO/Rogue which is well documented at this point.

Ah, I see.
Yes, I'm familiar with the bad blood between soO and Rogue. Incidentally, Dark isn't on good terms with the JinAir guys either.

The ZvZ series were all great (especially the last). In game 3 of the decider you could see soO going into full finals mode.
A very disappointing showing from classic though.
