Stats. When the two met in week one, it was Solar who came out on top. Stats, the only remaining Protoss in the tournament, would face off against ByuL in the next round were he able to reverse the result.Stats attempted an archon heavy two base timing attack on Overgrowth. Despite being equipped with the cheaper charge upgrade, his zealots were still unable to break Solar's roaches. Stats took a third while posturing, but Solar's army grew at a much faster rate. An attack on Stats' third was all it took for Solar to take a 1-0 lead.
Stats looked poised for a quick win in game two, but he squandered the advantage with an ill fated adept attack. With his third still alive, Solar teched into lurkers, eventually limiting Stats to one mining base. Stats put up a good fight due in large part to a massive high templar count, but when he lost his detection he was forced to tap out.
Stats looked to begin his comeback on Whirlwind. For the first time in the match, Solar opted for hydra/ling/baneling. Stats stuck with templar archives/charge. Solar crashed into the area between Stats’ natural and third, but Stats was able to muster a defense and send the series to game four.
Still a game away from advancing, Solar found himself in the late game against Stats after his investment into swarm hosts failed to pay dividends. Stats battled from behind for most of the game, but was eventually able to assemble an army featuring eleven archons, tempests and more that Solar had no answer for.
With the series tied 2-2, Solar went for a roach/ravager/queen timing that killed Stats’ third without contest. Stats began to build up his immortal count while retaking the base, but Solar had already maxed out. Having easily deflected Stats’ warp prism, Solar stomped into Stats’ third just as storm finished. Even that powerful upgrade wasn’t enough to stem the tide and Solar cleaned Stats’ army up to take the match 3-2 and set up a ZvZ against ByuL.
