The WCS Global Playoffs have finally started, setting up this years’ Grand Finale at BlizzCon on the first weekend of November.
Group A began with a flashback into the times of Korean domination, as Dark crushed PtitDrogo to claim his place in the Winners’ Match, and Stats triumphed over Snute to make the battle for the first spot in the next round an all-Korean affair. Left in the dust, the two Foreigners had to fight for survival, and delivered the biggest upset of the day: The underdog Drogo was able to defeat his Zerg opponent, making Snute the first contender to be eliminated from the Round of 16.
In Group B the Foreigner hope had better luck: Neeblet claimed victory over Patience, fulfilling the ever-growing expectations from fans worldwide in his abilities. In this groups’ Winners’ Match we’ll have a KeSPA Cup rematch, as Neeblet will meet Zest, who survived his clash with Zerg magician TRUE. Both of the groups’ underdogs now found themselves facing elimination and brought out their most action-packed strategies. In a close duel the Afreeca player was able to gain the edge and survive another day, while for TRUE the tournament unfortunately is done.
Tomorrow, the first matches of Groups C and D will be played out, the Winners' Matches will follow on Saturday and the Deciders will be broadcasted on Sunday.
These recaps aren't quite the gushing battle reports of old, but feel much more like modern sports journalism too. Can't really tell whether I like them compared to the old system, but definitely like having something to read after watching
