Rising star. Seems to create quite the buzz lately. Plus he's #3 on TLPD.

Zest is #9 on TLPD. Below Rouge, Reality and sOs. Doesn't mean much.

I wouldn't say "rising" because he's been around for a while. Plus, when he returned after literally dropping off the face of the earth is the buzz you're talking about, imo. He was a solid player and he's shown that he still has some left in the tank.

I just hope ByuN doesn't go into hiding again lol

Calling him a rising star is hilarious. Time for Seed to send him back into retirement for another 4 years soon

Why is the TL staff a bunch of haters. Byun deserves all the money in the world, doubly so for blessing China with his stardom. Byun deserves a statue on top of the Great Wall.

Note that it says "the star player", not "a star player". As in "the star player of X-Team". And out of those guys ByuN was definitely the star.

For foreigners, yes, Byun is more famous, by a large margin.
But in the Chinese scene, no. 'those guys' are local heroes and have a larger fan-base than Byun in China.

Moreover, X-team is a straight forward for-fun joke team that don't give a fuck about their results. They need memes and dramas more than an actual good player.

So X-Team is the Evil Geniuses of China? Interesting to know.

Well the issue is blowing up on Chinese forums, I'm seeing at least 25 forum threads on NeoTV alone active with in the last hour, Looks like to me Xiaose's biggest issue was how the Douyu deal was handled.

1. 91 and Xiaose wanted to give ByuN a stable source of income which would then ALLOW him stay on xteam at the same time, because xteam is unable to give ByuN a stable salary due to their finances and ByuN would not have a stable source of income otherwise. The deal was at least 10,000 RMB.
2. The contract is from Douyu to ByuN, xteam stands to gain or lose nothing from the contract. The idea was first brought up to ByuN with people from Douyu with translator at the Starcraft League floor where ByuN played.
3. The deal was for ByuN to return to Korea while Douyu and Xiaose hashed out the contract for him, they translated it first into English then into Korean at ByuN's request, but ByuN insisted to wait until WCS Shanghai to sign in person. This delayed the contract signing by 2 months. Xiaose insists that all the conditions in the contract were hashed out between Douyu and ByuN, not with xteam.
4. Douyu flies personnel from Wuhan into Shanghai specifically for the contract signing. ByuN suddenly at Shanghai demands a contract amounting to double the pay. Basically putting Xiaose and 91 in a really awkward and socially problematic spot having to apologize to Douyu and negotiate with ByuN.
5. ByuN then returns to Korea, after a month ByuN reaches out to Douyu, saying that he could sign the original contract but then demanded additional clauses including xteam paying him a stable salary, Xiaose gets wind of this and doesn't reply because he thought ByuN was being outrageous.
6. ByuN asks Xiaose why he wasn't invited to NSL. Xiaose did purposefully not invite ByuN because he wanted ByuN to "cool his head and consider his position since he is just one of many players in China" and told him that it was mainly to promote other players. ByuN says he is leaving the team on the spot.

From Xiaose's perspective, he pushed hard (basically "begging") for invite spots for ByuN and contracting work with Douyu out of good will and got spat on.

EDIT: to add to what Caihead said about the invite spot, the upcoming NEO Starleague Invitational is a collaborate project by xiaose and Douyu with the latter being the main sponsor, IF Byun was on Douyu's streamer contract, he is mostly guaranteed a invite spot due to him on a Chinese team and a Douyu streamer. Basically from what I know and the info flowing around, Byun threw away all the good will here.

Just something I know (that I can say):

Byun was never ever in a stable relationship with any team (I doubt even anyone) after his Prime days especially the Coca scandal. He is not known as someone easy to get along with and tension rises easily between him and X-Team.

And he most likely won't join any Kespa team, even if he does I doubt whether he'll stick around long. Actually, I'm not even sure whether any Kespa team want to sign him, considering his past events and links with Prime.

Hmmm... Seeing all this news about ByuN popping up makes me think now that perhaps the whole bad relationship between him and Gerrard may not have been 100% Gerrard's fault. (Don't get me wrong here, obviously Gerrard is a sob for getting Prime into all that match-fixing chaos and ruining Prime's reputation, but in regards to his relationship with ByuN, there could be more to it than what we've been told.)

I think ByuN's autism plays a bad role in his relationship with others.

F91's post:

The purpose of bringing in ByuN was to keep our team from dropping. We got him on as a mercenary, and we paid him on a match by match basis, win or lose. Whenever ByuN finds a new team would be the end of this.

Later on, Leifeng told us how ByuN‘s having it tough in Korea, and we felt sorry for him. We did not want such a talented player to retire due to lack of support, so we reached out to ByuN and hooked him up with Douyu about a streaming deal. Our intention was to increase his income, and if he felt like it, he'd come and play for us in the SL league.

We wanted ByuN to feel welcomed. We invited ByuN to dinners and representatives from Douyu came all the way to Shanghai just to discuss the deal with him. Prior to meeting with Douyu, I asked ByuN in private what sort of salary he was looking for. He told me he was fine with $1,000 per month, but wouldn't mind getting it bumped to $1,500 either.

After our discussion with Douyu, they agreed to offer ByuN $x,xxx, and ByuN was delighted, for it greatly exceeded his expectations. For us, we certainly hoped that he would stay on X-team, for we helped facilitate this deal for him. But if he really wanted to go, there was nothing we could do either.

I thought at first that the deal would go through rather quickly. However, things went quiet for about two months, cuz I couldn't reach ByuN (no response on either Skype or QQ). So I had to ask Douyu what was going on, why wasn't ByuN streaming yet. Douyu said that ByuN didn't accept English contracts, and wanted the contract in Korean. Douyu didn't want to go through the trouble of finding a Korean translator, so this whole thing was sort of on hold.

At this point, I felt like Douyu was sort of reluctant to sign ByuN, so I offered to find and pay a Korean translator myself. Two weeks later, the contract in Korean was ready, and ByuN told us that he would come and sign the contract during WCS China offline.

I thought that was the end of that. However, on Mar 26, after ByuN's matches were over, when Douyu representatives and myself approached him, the first thing he told us was that the pay was too low, and he wanted to raise it to $x,xxx (essentially doubling the original figure). We were completely dumbfounded. We asked him why he was taking exception to the salary that we agreed on earlier, and he told us that he deserved this extra pay because of his large fanbase in China. We offered to raise his pay later on based on viewership data, but he wouldn't budge and did not sign the deal. I personally felt really dejected after all this.

Now that ByuN's left the team, I feel that we didn't do him any disservice. X-team has no sponsor, and we don't really care about results that much. We got ByuN in the team simply to avoid elimination and downgrading. We certainly hoped that he would practice with our younger players, do some in team tournaments if possible, but he did not communicate at all with any of our other players either. Even if X-team did have the money to offer ByuN a handsome salary, I wouldn't have given to him. Instead, I would have used that money to run a team house and gather young players with potential. Getting young talents to practice together and improve was the whole point of X-team anyway.

I'd still like to thank ByuN for the victories and the glories that he brought to this team, and wish him luck in the future. gg gl

I mean, as much as this story makes ByuN look like a dick, Gerrard still sold ByuN's personal high-end gaming PC without permission.
