Would be great if someone knows where Coach Kang posted and can translate what it says. Reddit user dokdo812 gave a rough translation:
Rough translation: Hello. This is Kang Dong Hoon from IM. While it is true that Mvp is considering his future paths, it is not true that he retired. I'm still talking a lot with Mvp. We're pleased to see this much support from a lot of people still. We ask you to continue your interest and support. (Mvp is laughing that he got "force-retired"~ haha)

Can't wait for Mvp to win his fifth GSL.

As much as I love the fact that Mvp is not retired, if he is not playing professional SCII, then how the hell is he making money, does he have another job? (It's obvious that the amount of money he made in 2014 is not enough to keep him fed all the way till now

According to liquipedia, he made about $350K gross. That's a pretty crappy middle class for 10 years, especially given that 3+ of those years are already gone.

How is $35K per year "pretty crappy" when he doesn't need to support a family?

Watch Mvp enter the scene with a nice big tan. He's probably relaxing in beaches while his wrist heals

I bet he doesn't come back. He shouldn't if it really causes him a lot of pain. If he's feeling better or had surgery done to help him and really wants to play then I welcome him back.

With $350k, if he invests it properly and use it appropriately it should last him a lot of time once he steps out of the SC2 world and into the real world. However didn't he say he was using his prize money to help his family out because his family was very poor? I recall reading something about this a long time ago.

Except he supports his family, also he is married. And I'm not sure if liquipedia counts his salary too.

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development the median salary in South Korea in 2012 was $36 thousand US a year.
So yes, he would be a middle Korean with $350k winnings, except he would have the advantage of having it front loaded.

this is why people should never consider the words of some other random guy to be the absolute truth. this is exactly how rumors get started, and time and time again people have never fully figured it out. at least it isn't a bad rumor.
mvp will retire, when he says he will retire.
although he really should give his fans an update as to what the hell he's doing nowadays, instead of relying on other people to do it for him, or to just simply not give a crap. i'm pretty sure there are a lot of mvp fans out there who are very curious and a little frustrated about being kept in the dark as to what he's doing.

The coach says he is not retired, but not seeing him in any tournament nor hearing any news from him is still pretty depressing. I mean, not too long ago he streamed a few of his games and there was still hope but even that faded
Hope he enters the scene pretty soon again for real. We need the King of Wings back on track to show them whos the real Bonjwa

LoL where are you guys living? With 350K $ I would live almost 20 years without a job. I live in Germany and spent around 900€ for a month, so in a year almost 10k, which means I will be ok for 30 years. You guys must be living in really EXPENSIVE countries..

France minimum wages are around 1400€, "poverty level" is identified at about 1000€/month. That's considering you provide for a single person. Yes you can live on less than that and survive on a lot less, but that might not be everyone's goal (900€/month would not pay my rent in Paris)
Go MVP !! Thought we'd see him more as a coach, glad if we see him play.

Dota retired.

Even if he does come back, the question will be can he even perform to the level he was as good in? Even on his downfall when he won a WCS EU title against Stephano? I figure he won't. I'm sure the time off is good and isn't straining his condition much if at all. Though he probably won't get too far, but I would like to see some innovation in builds and mind play from him if he does come back when LotV is out.

Taxes on the prizes and medical bills will make it much less than $35k. Plus he probably gives it to his parents with Korean tradition and whatnot.

I don't know why people get super-excited about anything Mvp. He has been totally irrelevant for a long time, and I don't think he'd be in the very top tier of Maru/Life even if he did come back (to me, Life's first GSL finals was enough proof that was a better player). He may be one of the smartest ever, but with how competitive Korea is now, he wouldn't necessarily be one of the best. Plus I remember hearing this guy has some serious wrist or back issues - a hardcore starcraft career is probably not even possible.
Just let him go - I hope he makes a decision with minimal external pressure and if not starcraft, then makes the most of his talent elsewhere.

DId you guys bother to notice the TL retirement post was on 3/31 - which is 4/1 in Korea time? He's laughing that the community "forced retired" him right now according to the Korean text.

For the year LG sponsored them I'm sure their salaries were actually very good. Especially MVPs and Nesteas since the sponsorship started while they were still 2 of the best players in the world.

It's not hard to understand, he's arguably the most accomplished SC2 player, and thus arguably the greatest. Life only won the GSL finals because MVP threw game 7, which is evidence of a fluke rather than a superior player.

Being able to capitalize on your opponent's mistakes and to force him to do said mistakes is part of the game, and part of who's the "better player".

That was after the first year. For the first year LG sponsored them things were fine. It was the next 6 months that they stopped paying since they never officially said they were going to continue sponsoring them.

It's not hard to understand, he's arguably the most accomplished SC2 player, and thus arguably the greatest. Life only won the GSL finals because MVP threw game 7, which is evidence of a fluke rather than a superior player. Please no. A player does not "throw" a game like that. Being able to capitalize on your opponent's mistakes and to force him to do said mistakes is part of the game, and part of who's the "better player".
A 4-3 in a bo7 hardly confirms one player as being definitely better. Plus a lot of those games were decided by extremely minor mistakes. MVP accomplished more in 2011 than Life has in 4 years.

No actually players choke and throw all the time. Not saying he intentionally threw of course. It's not at all a mistake Life "forced".

For just rent, it's difficult to get anything decent in LA for <$1000, unless you want to live somewhere like Compton. On the other hand, you won't have to worry about the money lasting longer than 10 years living there.
Seoul is more expensive than LA. It's one of the most expensive cities in the entire planet.

Please, G5L. The trophy with his name on it already exists! I believe in you Mvp!!

I expect a lot of old star coming back for one last ride Mvp included.
Called it.
Mvp is the king and the king will never leave with some unfinished meat on the grill.

That's great news to hear. I just watched State of Play's bonus documentary and got some serious nerd chills. The climax with him winning his fourth GSL versus Squirtle was so epic.

Also, I hope he's feeling healthier now. If he does return, I hope he does his best, otherwise I hope he retires.

Well choking means that is more prone to pressure than his opponent, which is still part of being the "better player".

He's still not totally "unretired" in my mind, tho...

Honestly I don't know if I'd want MVP to start playing in tournaments / ect again. I just feel like he'll never be able to live up to his own hype. If he somehow could, I would be astounded and amazed and the most giggly fanboy of all time, but I just can't see it happening

He could come back and be competitive. He reminds me of Polt, not the absolute fastest or most mechanical but both super smart players.

I love Mvp, but it was sad watching him struggle when he last played. Missing out on Challenger League and stuff.

I spend around $1.2-1.5k per month living in Seoul, this is including rent, utilities, groceries, transport and going out (admittedly I usually just take my waifu to the restaurant or movies or something low key like that a few times a week, but then again stuff like clubs or whatever is dirt cheap in Seoul, too). I wouldn't say I'm very frugal, either. Seoul is only expensive to live in if you are going to rent a big apartment in like Gangnam or whatever, and / or if you insist on having a car.

Exactly my point - March 31st western would be April 1st in KR time.
