DRG's statement:
First of all, I would like to thanks Invasion esport and Sebou (Korean manager of Invasion eSport team) for taking good care of me and their understanding. I sincerely wish them all the best for the future. This is a hard decision for me to take in the middle of a contract, and to be clear, it has nothing to do with the management of Invasion eSport.
Recently, my gaming style went down as my motivation to train on Starcraft II. I joined Invasion eSport to force myself to participate to foreign tournaments. Unfortunately, the number of those tournaments and my performances are lower than my expectations. My motivation to train is driven by my tournaments participations. I prepare them with a lot of work and a high motivation.
Today I think the best solution for me is to play the proleague in a high level structure to get back the level I had and only the Kespa can provide this. Invasion eSport don’t have the budget and they are already tied to one Kespa team. So the only solution that i could find is to leave this team and go back in Kespa to play proleague again. I know this is a sudden change of mind and I would like to apologize for it.
I thanks all my fans and Invasion eSport for their understanding. I hope to see you all again soon in proleague and in future tournaments.
Invasion eSport's statement:
How sad is that?
We are of course disappointed by this “good bye” from DongRaeGu. We were proud to have him in our ranks and to provide him the best we could.
But at Invasion eSport we are focused on one thing: having a lot of fun! We achieve that by supporting players like DRG at the best we can. Today, since we’re unable to participate in Proleague, the best we can do for him is to encourage him to follow his instinct and join the KeSPA. We understand his choice and of course we will let him go without any problem. He’s gone of our team, but he’s still on the Starcraft II scene and we will keep cheering for him. He is a great player and we wish him a big success on his new structure.

I'm guessing Super leaves too. As far as I know they live together, so they probably made this decision together

He's doing well in individual leagues, don't think he needs PL.

Now then, which team will pick up DRG?

I'm fairly sure a KeSPA team will pick him up, he's still good enough that most teams would want him. Especially the weaker ones.

The people leaving Invasion are ones who are looking for Kespa, going the Innovation route.

More or less regularly fielded zergs in proleague CJ - Byul JAGW - Rouge KT - Life MVP - Losira Prime - none Samsung - Solar, Shine SKT - Dark, soO ST-Yoe - Leenock, Curious anyone else think most teams have a stronger protoss and terran lineup?

I wonder if this was a good decision. Most - if not all - kespa teams are already "full" and if I remember correctly he has been without a team for quite some time before IE picked him up.

Yeah, I'm sure when DRG left he said it was because he didn't like having to play PL etc. I guess now that there's more Korean tournaments he has changed his mind
|
Sad for invasion, cause really they were shaddy and came out of the blue, you can even say they were bordeline amateurs but in the end they recruited these players, repected their part of the contract (no lack of payment bullshit) so it seems they were perfectly honest and sincere.
Let's see if they keep being active on esport of if this marks the begining of the end or their short existence.
As for DRG, about time he starts to perform again, I hope he will really train serioulsy else he'd better just retire.
|
|
Not surprised in the least bit.
|
Doesn't suprise me. Koreans need to train in Korea within their usual environments to stay on top. If they "train" abroad they become worse really soon.

Lol Invasion

I haven't seen anything shady about them though. There hasn't been any drama over payment or dodgy contracts, their players have gotten into big tournaments so there seems to be support and all the Koreans who play(ed) for them, at least publicly, only had good things to say.
Inexperienced, maybe, but that isn't the same as shady.
|
Would be sorta weird if he returned to MVP, although I doubt he will. Maybe SKT.DRG? KT.DRG? JAGW.DRG? Samsung DRG? CJ DRG? I think CJ is a very possible choice as they only have 1 active zerg in Byul for PL at least. KT probably not despite Life being their main zerg, they still got Sleep and Action as backup zergs. There's also PRIME as a realistic possibility since they mainly field Protoss and Terrans, and their zerg lineup sorta lacking.
|
I think it'll either be CJ/SKT.DRG or DRG.Prime
|
Samsung DRG would be cool. I mean, they got sweet jackets.
|
I just feel relieved that he wants to participate in the proleague.
|
Prime need him the most. Even though they're Zerg heavy Startale could use him too. MVP could probably use him as well although they're playing well this round it's mostly on the back of Losira and Yonghwa and he did leave MVP not that long ago.
He'd be a great pickup for Prime if they have the money, DRG is a popular player and if he gets back in form he could be their ace.
|
I don't see anything shady or any drama? DRG wants to be the best, be with KeSPA and play SPL again. No complain about Invasion whatsoever. It's just a Korean realising that there arent' that many foreign tournaments and the Korean infrastrucutre is way better plus you have enough to play in with dual leagues and SPL now.

Well this must suck big time for DRG. He first goes on the record saying that enjoying himself is important and its not all about money, he turns down some KeSPA offers only to change his mind a couple of months down the road. His best bet would have been KT pre Life since they only have Action and Sleep, but now he has no chance there.
SKT1 are definetly not rotating him in over soO or Dark, Jin Air are pretty rigid about going outside their favorite formula of Maru, Rogue, sOs with either Cure or Trap as a 4th. I guess CJ is his best bet if he wants a top KeSPA team given that they are only regularly fielding ByuL as their zerg and lack depth there.
I hope he signs with CJ, Dream's play improved so much once he was on SKT1, I feel DRG maybe reach some of his past glory if he had the training of one of the top teams.

DRG would be excellent at some of the stronger teams (JAGW, CJ, SKT), but I actually think his chances with KT and Samsung are higher, given they are willing to pay. For the first three teams, he has a hard time competing for a spot, for the latter two, he might stand a chance (if he gets as consistent as he used to be, he can easily replace Flash/TY). For MVP, he got dumped by them, so that may be a no go. For Prime, he might be the third strong player they need to get competitive FINALLY. For Startale, I guess so, they could use him.
I'd prefer JAGW > Samsung > KT, in that order.

Structure is important in a training environment.
I like his mentality - it's similar to when Bogus came back to Kespa.

As a Jinair fan i'd like to see them put work into Symbol as their second Zerg, they've shown some faith fielding him but he's 0-2 in PL so far, at his best he can compete though. I like DRG but as a Jinair fan I think Prime or CJ Entus would be a better fit for him. Samsung could work too but only if they've lost faith in Shine as their second Zerg. I don't think he'd get fielded enough on SKT/KT/Jinair, Startale could use any good player but they're Zerg heavy already and he has the history with MVP so who knows if he's want to go back or not but that'd be a fine fit if he did

As much as I'd like to see DRG on Jin Air. Jin Air just signed Check and they also have Rogue who has been doing well recently and Symbol has been finding some form. It just doesn't seem like it'll happen.
Best case scenario, he'll go to CJ. I don't think MVP and Prime will provide as good a training environment as one of the big KeSPA teams.

Edit: Players leaving teams in Europe and American to go back to Kespa after wanting new exposure is drama. It's like a girl going back to her old boyfriend because "we need to see other people" didn't work.

DRG saw that NaNiwa has a team now. Europe is getting really difficult... So he is best of in Korea hahahah Joke aside: Glad for him, because has mentioned above he will take the Bogus route. Kespa team will provide him with the routine he needs and hopefully we will see him again on a team with better skills.

Hope he joins CJ, ST, or returns to MVP.
ST and MVP could use a sick pickup to try to help balance out the huge imbalance of lineups in SPL.
CJ is already fine with what they have, but another strong Zerg would push them over the top to possibly having the best SPL lineup. Likely a better training environment for DRG as well.

Good to see but kinda weird considering we heard how MVP (with DRG as their ace) broke up specifically because they hated playing in SPL. Though maybe DRG wasn't the leader of that; he and Super were the only ones playing well for the "original" MVP last year.

I'm glad to see a professional response from both sides. Pretty much everybody doubted Invasion was legit but they've kept most of their players happy it seems.

Hmmm, MMA and MC did quite nicely for themselves once they moved to a foreign team, even when they came back to the Korean scene. Yes, they did stay in between Korea and Europe but it's all about your mental state and how hard you push yourself.
Polt and Bomber were beating Koreans who practiced in Korea in foreign tournaments. Though Bomber didn't show amazing results back in a Code S, he still qualified for Code S, which is a feat in itself. And don't knock the European scene. It has quite good players

Bomber was doing awesome last year, for some reason he dropped a lot on the start of this year.
