ESL announced the qualifiers for the first season of 2015 WCS : http://www.eslgaming.com/news/announcing-wcs-2015-eu-qualifiers
Surprisingly, while it was initially announced (here: "*In Season 1, regional qualifiers will feed directly into WCS Premier League") that there would be no Challenger league for this Season 1, it seems that there was a change of plan.
There will be 7 qualifiers, allowing 4 players in each to access the Challenger League, where the 28 players will compete in a single round. The Top 14 will then advance to the Premier League.
- Qualifier 1: January 6th, 18:00 CET
- Qualifier 2: January 7th, 18:00 CET
- Qualifier 3: January 9th, 18:00 CET
- Qualifier 4: January 12th, 18:00 CET
- Qualifier 5: January 13th, 18:00 CET
- Qualifier 6: January 14th, 18:00 CET
- Last Chance Qualifier: January 16th, 18:00 CET
The Last Chance Qualifier will feature the top 16 not yet qualified players from the previous six cups and will be a double elimination bracket.
Here are the requirements to participate:
- You must be a resident of Europe, the Middle East or Africa
- You must be a European, Middle Eastern or African citizen (passport) or have a valid visa for your country of residence
- You must be ranked Master or above on the European server in the current season

Once again players will have a grand total of 12-36 hours to practice on the new maps for the first qualifiers. When will this aberration get fixed... By accident the current schedule mitigates that with the second week but this is still stupid. Either release the new map pool one week earlier or shift the qualifiers.
Good idea for the Last Chance qualifier, though whoever gets stuck as top3/top4 there will probably feel very bad.

There were noises that the Map Pool will be changed this week. Or at least the new maps will be shown the public.

The SSL did have a wild card bracket for all the players that finished 3rd in their groups!

That's actually hilariously vague. "Planning" to "attempt" this? What on earth

yeah, Blizzard is trying to diversify the saying "Soon™"
But hope exists anyways.

Like wtf, why keep the S3 map pool forever TT And testing the maps, please... That smells like bad, Daedalus-esque maps to me edit : oh wait, the new maps "are still a work in progress". Does that mean four new maps only Blizzard-made? And I guess the maps that will be kept will be Deadwing, Catalenna and Nimbus.

Wow!!!
Bunny, Snute, Mana, TLO, ForGG, Dayshi, Harstem, Welmu, Elfi, Heromarine, Happy, Kas and lots of other strong players! But the biggest news, Naniwa is competing!!! So hyped!
|
Naniwa has been playing quite a lot on the ladder lately, he appears in good shape.
|
I dunno, he said in his fanclub that he isn't sure about participating in the qualifiers. (and if he does I'm afraid every Zerg he meets will try to put him on tilt by SHing hard)
|
I'm just gonna go ahead and ask for this thread to be moved to Tournaments, since the WCS thread for every other region is in there, and an open qualifier doesn't necessarily merit a separate LR thread.

Is there a comprehensive guide of how WCS works right now because it's seems to be such a mess.
Are there 1 qualifier phase + 1 challenger league for each region THEN a global premier league
or is it 1 qualifier phase for each region and THEN a global challenger league and a global premier league.
Between this and GSL & SSL (what is this??) going on at the same time I don't understand shit at the new WCS system.
GSL has its own system of skipping challenger league .
And with the new maps going on live in the middle of the season it's like they don't even give a shit to have any coherence in this.
Welcome to competitive starcraft of 2015, I need a guide! :D

Welcome to competitive starcraft of 2015, I need a guide! :D I dont understand your questions. I am trying to tell clearly represented. GSL and SSL are independent. EU, NA, SEA and China are together now (called as WCS Unified) . You can play WCS EU, GSL and SSL if you can.
top4 of each EU qualifier qualify for EU Challenger. top4 x 7 qualifiers = 28 players, all 28 are in Challenger League. then only one Bo5 away to qualify for permier league. Top14 qualifies for WCs Unified.
WCS Unified has 32 players; 14 are from EU, 8 from NA, etc. For Season 2 ALL have to qualify again, ALL begin from zero . There are no seeds.
