This morning CBS Sunday (a US morning show) ran a feature on eSports which had a lot of Starcraft 2 content and shots of our favorite players.

I was lucky enough to attend WCS 2014 @blizzcon and let me tell you, it really exceeded my expectations.

I think the video is high quality, and was quite impressed that it didn't seem too condescending. The production value of these sort of news briefs on TV always seems to exceed anything you can find made for the internet.

that was a good segment, glad to see it.
BW. There will always be a special place in my heart for the game I spent 10 years to be mediocre at.

Very nicely done.

It's funny, some days ago there was a dota 2 feature on canadian TV that was also very well done. I say it's funny, because I'm used to french television, when nothing is ever well done. When you see a feature on french TV about a thing you know very well, you understand that it's always bullshit. Then I see all these reports made by foreign countries which are informative and basically tells the reality of things, and I'm astonished.
In France, basically the same reports would be 99% lies and garbage...I'm glad journalism still exists in other countries.

'murica. If there is one thing we can do right its TV.

Yeah, the format is good. You get an older guy, who doesn't really understand it, so it's natural that he is asking a lot of questions. This gives the unoriented viewer a bit of a guide to the story ... and then the punctuate it with the pure viewer numbers and the amount of money (for twitch) and you can't really argue how big it is.

I like how they talked to plenty of female fans and not just fat guys with cans of soda pop. Whew.

Overall very good coverage - left out the 2 big Valve games but I guess there wasn't enough time to cover everything.

Good thing they didn't pick up on certain incidents like Gamergate and Kas' miscommunications :-)

I just don't even dare to imagine how the world will be in five years, when the first 'esports generation' starts becoming important in corporate life

If this was made by french TV, there would be 2 minutes about Kas, 3 about the guy in Singapore that played 3 days non stop and died from dehydratation, 2 about matchfixing, then they'd talk about how it is dangerous to play games. And it would mostly be made out "facts", or very distorted at least.

You forget the subtitles (or worse, voice overs) for casters/players/whatever that would have barely any relevance to what's actually said

I liked it. I appreciate how it stays objective and simple. Gotta love RedBull giving their eSports players the same training as their olympic athletes too.

And the dramatic and obnoxious background music to make the viewers understand that video games are literally worse than alcoholism, cancer and unemployment combined

"Is there a time that we'll look at e-sports perhaps like nascar."

I sincerely hope that will never happen. "He microes left, and left, and left...."

Jokes aside, this is a great sign. If the target interest group in an e-sports piece is morning television, we're pretty much in mainstream culture already.
