Because it is the only premier teamleague outside of Korea, I feel that it is just so important. Teamleagues help teams maintain cohesion and exposure, and allows new players an easier opportunity to gain exposure. Think of some of the most accomplished players in SC2 - MMA, DRG, Taeja, Life. All of these players really started off as teamleague stars before becoming champions.

I mean, MMA got in the finals and won last WCS EU, but would you put him clearly above Taeja/INno/Flash/Bomber ? Who wouldnt put MMA above Flash?

Sadly, teamleagues play a very minor role in the western scene. I mean, just look at how much ATC had to distort its schedule to play all the games. :-/

It allows foreign teams a chance to gain exposure on a weekly basis. Plus we have seen some foreign players do well in the ATC. Dayshi has excelled in both ATC 2 and 3, and I think his performance here has been the biggest contributing factor to his fame. Bunny and Snute also have benefited IMO from playing in the league.
