After the conclusion of the final Ro32 group on Thursday night, Code S went directly into group drawings. The groups were randomly drawn to each include two first place finishers and two second place finishers from the Ro32. The previous format where players chose their opponents in a draft-like group ceremony was abandoned.

Rain vs. Squirtle is the only possible group match where neither player has played before in a televised match.
Actually, with a second thought I kinda find group C to be the group of Doom and Death. With Dear's recent shaky performances, compared to build order- and colossi master Squirtle, execution master PartinG, defence- and standard game master Rain, and the solid Classic.. I think C is quite reasonable then
sOs really did draw best group for him probably. Other games, hue. Too many roaches. PartinG is probably locked if he beats Rain in first game and then everything can happen. If Bbyong somehow beats herO in first game, soO will advance first, if not - herO and soO are close to be locks with Trap being hit or miss last months. And B, ohlol. Soulkey is lock like always. And P7GAB might be second if he doesn't lose to Maru and then in coinflip against Dear.

Bite your tongue.
You just called a group with PvP potential better than a group where TvT happened. Between Innovation and Flash. Go stand in a corner and think about what you did.
But obviously sick group is obviously sick. This is probably as exciting as Code S is going to get this season.

I disagree. Dear pulls the group down a little. Zest is really impressive as well, but I'm unsure if he'll rise to the occasion with consistency in code S. He's still kinda new here.
The Flash/Parting/Life/Bogus group had players who were all tried and true in top form when they met. The two top SPL Terrans, the WCS champ and consistent Toss, and a recent MLG champ. Hard to beat that.
All groups are pretty crazy and impossible to predict. Let's have a try though : A : Curious - Life B : Maru - Soulkey C : PartinG - Rain D : herO - soO
Group B is amazing, even better is the fact that Soulkey had played some very important matches with every of these players, so it looks like a great rivalry.
And poor sOs in group A... :D I am quite sad for group A, I mean Curious, Life and RorO in the same group. :/
Group B is just sick. Group A is probably as good as it gets for Life in his current state. Group C is Protoss... I don't like Protoss, so... And group D... no idea who's gonna make it out there.

Group B has the winners of the past 3 WCS KR seasons, and 3 of the Top 4 from the previous GSL/WCSKR.
That's going to be one hell of a night. If any of those 2 players make it out I'll be happy. Probably going to root for Soulkey and Maru just because there are already so many protoss, but I honestly wouldn't mind if Zest or Dear advanced either since they are both awesome.
I don't really get why everyone is bashing group C when PvP is actually more enjoyable to watch than ever. The coinflip / 4 gates era is long over and high level PvP is really interesting.
Damn, nice groups. Sad to see Curious and Life in the same group though; I kinda doubt both of them will be able to make it out of their group. Group C is... hilarious :D
It's sad that they removed the group selections. I hope it returns in the future, for all WCS regions. It was one of the best things about GSL compared to other tournaments, imo.
Group B is gonna be gooood. Go Maru!
If Classic had swapped places with sOs, group C would've been the most exciting group to me. Not only is Squirtle (<3) there, but only PvPs with build order masters PartinG, sOs and Squirtle?! That would've been amazing to watch!

in WCS Eu we're going to get these randomized* groups instead which really annoys me given how unfair they can be. I guess WCS AM does it the same way?
*randomized as in, even Koreans spread, no 2 terrans in a single group. also probably Nerchio vs Stardust as an opening match of one of the groups.

I think that's only if they actually faced each other in the group, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.
Zest's recent stats are so amazing, probably the best Protoss right now. Maru arguably the best Terran. Soulkey the best Zerg too. Dear is a champion and quite a mystery. Great group!
They should have swapped Roro and Squirtle so that group C wouldn't be purely PvP. Also, in doing so we can test the Sniper Curse and see if, because so many people dislike him, Roro makes it through a group containing three of the best Protoss in the world.

Pretty sure nothing will ever beat that group. But this one is pretty close!
Well I think that group this group B might be even more stacked. 3 previous WCS KR champions + Zest, who is currently beast in GSL and ProLeague... It's really just a matter of opinion, but I think, this group is better.

From this set of 16, I think Dear can be swapped with Parting, Rain, herO or sOs for a stronger group.

Bbyong has a real chance to advance as the sole terran, as first placer even. Hes gonna somehow beat his teammate (cant say anything about teamkill) and play a extremely scrappy & awesome series against soO. Mark my words

At this point, Dear is looking pretty weak. We don't know if he'll continue that trend for sure, but Flash was tearing Proleague to shreds at the time of the Group of Death with Life/Innovation/Parting, and all of the other three had solid claims to being the best of their respective races.
I think both groups are pulled down by Flash/Dear respectively, but in terms of current form I don't think I'd rate Dear higher than I would have rated Flash at the end of May last year (which in fairness was after the group was played), especially not after the latter went 15-2 in Round 5.
With the groups being drawn and herO being in group D, does that mean that he will not be able to compete at the IEM World Championship? Group D is scheduled right now for March 14th.

Gom usually reschedules to help the players, and they most certainly will given the amount of players attending IEM WC.

Not like back then. Flash was still rolling through SPL (consistency), made it far in the Asian Indoor Tournament, and made what turned out to still be his best international tournament placing at MLG. He crushed his ro32 group too.
Dear has cooled off since winning his back to back championships (was irrelevant prior to his wins too). He barely even made the ro16, probably wouldn't even be here if he got Life instead of Yonghwa.
To me this group strikes me as Soulkey's group with the 2nd spot being a duel between Maru and Zest. Yeah I know Zest is hot right now and beat Soulkey, but can he do it here in a bo3 is the question.
The Bogus/Flash/Life/PartinG group was anyone's group (PartinG to a lesser extent imo, but he made it in the end anyway). I get hyped just thinking about it again where this was the common reaction to it:
Poor maru few have a positive record against him and so does all of his group, btw there are 3 groups that imo are better Parting inno life flash Rain taeja drg polt Mkp mc symbol squirtle

Life's ZvZ has been really good since mid-October (he's got a match winrate of nearly 90% over more than 20 matches). Getting 3 Zergs, one of them Curious whom he just never loses to is good news.
That group B.... Ouch, but then again, following logic of WCS KR 2013 S1, i say that whoever tops this group comes 2nd in the end, losing to whoever topped other group in finals (group P?).

No it isn't. The Innovation Flash Life Parting group was basically the guys most people considered the 4 best in the world at the time. Life had just won MLG so kind of hard to say he wasn't when he was still showing great results. Flash had just gotten second making everyone think here comes flash. Innovation was stopped only by Flash and still looked fucking good. Parting was still parting and basically the best toss there was then. This group is good but that group was fucking crazy.
Considering how Zest has been playing lately I thought for the first time since Luxury someone on KT besides Flash would go deep in a StarLeague and then I woke up and saw the groups......

I think Rain was ahead of Parting at the time - I'd have said Flash and Inno were the best two Terrans in the world. But I think all 4 players were in the top 10 in the world (to be specific, maybe even like top 7..)
I wouldn't say the same for the current Group B (with Dear being the weak link)

Group B is strong, but honestly Group A is extremely strong as well. Life, RorO, Curious, sOs are all extremely strong players and in really good form recently. I'm worried for sOs, hopefully he can pull through.
And that sucks for CJ that bbyong and herO are in the same group, I hope they both can advance out of their group
I cannot wait for these matches to start, these groups are just orgasmic. Anyone saying that the GSL was weak this year doesn't know what they are talking about, pretty much every group is loaded with top tier talent.

Ro32 was weak, but on the plus side, most of the chaff was sorted out. Ruin, Panic, Dark, Pet, Sora were all crushed pretty hard.
Wow Group B may be the only Group I've ever seen that can rival (or even top?) that PartinG-Life-Flash-INnoVation group from a few seasons ago! Sooo excited!
Group D feels so underwhelming compared to the others. Just shows how many sick players we have these days. You know, for all the qq about balance in the last few months, we have got some really sick players here. Group B though is the obvious standout. Wcs kr winners 1, 2, and 3... Plus Wooki has been on fire lately. SKToss got kinda screwed but it was obvious they'd have to have some teamkills eventually.

A: Roro, life B: Maru, Souley (MARU I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) also, LOL at this group. insanity C: Classic, Rain (lol at the SKt pvp fest, should be interesting mind games to say the least) D: Trap, Soo
Heart: Life/Curious Soulkey/Maru Squirtle/Parting Bbyong/herO I am completely ignoring my "head" vote for this season. If everything I listed above happens I will lose my shit. (And it will be a 3 zerg, 3 toss, 2 terran ro8 )

Group A feels rather underrated. sOs--I mean, a 2nd place season finals last year and won the WCS Grand Final. Life was considered the best player in the world for like 4-5 months.
Then it drops off a bit to RorO, the last WoL GSL winner, when admittedly, zerg was most widely considered op, and Curious, a guy who was slowly improved over time. I used to look down on him for losing all the time early in his GSTL career, but he finally broke out with some all-kills and otherwise being a code S mainstay post-code A dominance days. Most recently, I believe he's famous for beating Innovation.
I probably wouldn't put it ahead of group B, but all the others--yeah. None of group D are particularly big names and one of them will probably win this season, but if so, will they fade away quickly like RorO? And is RorO in the midst of jjakji-ing his way back to relevance?
