Not knowing who he is is excusable. Commenting on the thread for the sole purpose of saying "who?" to a player who has contributed so much out of his own time is fucking idiotic. Not to be overtly rude, but for the vast majority of people who don't look in every nook and cranny for sc2 related content, asking "who" is, at least in my mind appropriate for this person. If you browse TL regularly (sc2 sub forum) you could very well have no clue who he is unless you go out of your way to look up specifics. Calling people idiotic because they don't devote as much time as he did into making content, to find it is..well, yeah. I don't know who he is, can't really say I care either, it sounds like some people benefited from his content which is great, it's more than the average or even most people do for the community, but he's not exactly someone people should be familiar with on name alone. Thanks for what you did for the community Mario, good luck in whatever it is you decide to do next, and have fun. This...
You can't say "some super cool Terran guy who does mech is retiring!" And expect the whole world of people not particularly following him to not say "who?" At least put some added info into the OP (he was a content creator, this is a link to his work, these are his accomplishments/contributions, etc)
Anyone who is angry about people asking "who is this Mario guy?" Needs to get off their high horse and either explain who Mario is or don't say anything at all, because those people are trying to find out who Mario is and why there is a thread about him retiring!
I honestly don't care that he's retiring, and I know that Mario would know that a lot of people won't notice his retirement, but now that I know who he is, (no thx to the people crying) I can finally make my response which is "sad to see another community contributor go, best of luck to you sir". Not that he helped me at all, since I didn't know who he was, but he helped some people, and helping the community is essential in the expansion of eSports.

I guess something struck me when I realized that everything is going forward and we're getting more and more people but we have no finances anymore? Running tournaments with no income for the prize? This is disgusting. I knew there was something dodgy going on. I can't even find anything on their head sponsor, only a facebook page with 100 likes. Yeah I wonder why more people didn't seem to notice this bit in particular. :s Actually, this is something everyone who read the LYGF news noticed. It was explained that their "head sponsor" was a private source that did not want to be named. Everyone was suspicious of it. Everyone said "welp, I hope this doesn't fuck over a lot of surviving Koreans!", or "hope this actually works out!"
LYGF hasn't screwed anyone over yet though. In this case, a casual player didn't want to be overly committed to a financial source that was unreliable, so he quit ahead of time. That doesn't mean LYGF has fallen apart and their world is crumbling. It's possible that that might happen (and I'm a skeptic, so I've always thought that was going to happen), but one should not openly assume and start spreading rumors across the internet quite yet.

Wow some people here are assholes.. All the best Mario <3

Some of you guys are assholes. He's retiring from a game he lived and breathed since he was 8. Now has a family and wants to devote his free time to them, and being a father of a 9 month baby boy, i completely understand. GL Mario, <('.')>

mario is not a top player but he is a top guy nonetheless

Well, your question implies that Mario was the best mech player, not the case, it's subjective , some will question this affirmation, anyway, right now, the only known remaining foreign mech players are Avilo and Goody, that many they are. As for koreans, no names comes up in my mind, they are slowly pushing into mech at least in TvZ.

Sad to see one of the best Mech'ers go. Wish you all the best in real life, Mario.

its sad to see mario retire Also he pretty much confirms the suspicions of LYGF and their money situation

Thanks for your videos, HTOMario, and for all the time and effort you put on this game we love. Have fun in the future! Enjoy your family!

I agree with you. GL Mario ! Mech FTW !

Mario played some funky mech, was good some of the stuff he could pull off. Mechanically not particularly strong for a GM player but had some smart plays. GL dude, hopefully you will still be gaming when the next big RTS comes out.

never see someone that supply blocked for a gm level, i think he deserve an award for this, good luck in ur future life

Debatable, Bails (former LYGF) posted this on reddit:
"I had a very similar experience when I was on LYGF..i'm glad I left when I did. I had multiple late payments AND even CANCELLED payments. I'm sorry this happened to you Mario hopefully it doesn't happen to anyone else."
And on an unrelated note, I feel like the term "casual player" is being misapplied in this thread.

H2O till the end, good luck YoSho with what ever you want in life.

Yeah in the LYGF interview thread I pointed out that LYGF looked super suspect, and these butt-hurt dudes were like "OMG STFU STOP BEING NEGATIVE" and I was considering dignifying their tears with a response, but figured that I'd be proven right over the long run, and didn't want to waste time with people who don't live in reality.
HTOMario a casual player leaving the team is a huge red flag. Gl to the guy, you made the right choice, there is no future in sc2 unless you are the very top tier

I would've agreed with you 100% if you hadn't called Mario a casual player.... >_>

As for koreans, no names comes up in my mind, they are slowly pushing into mech at least in TvZ. I´d say Strelok is the best foreign mech player, that plays mech relatively consitently. Ofc top terrans like Happy, Heromarine, MajOr, Dayshi or Kas are possibly better, but there are not as linked to the style as others are. That being said, both Strelok and GoOdy are still a lot better than avilo is and than Mario was.
But back to topic, it´s always sad to see a community member leave, especially given the circumstances. I personally did´nt know Mario that well, but I knew of his existence and that he was quite important for a lot of people. Best of luck to you and your family Mario!

its always a bad news for me if a true mech terran retires.
goodbye mario and thanks for the good times on sc2...

*Thanks for sharing! I love reading the part about how supportive your wife is about ur sc2. One day I hope to make that my reality as well :-) Accomplishing GM and performing in tournaments, is no easy feat at all. So GZ on making ur dreams come true, and GL HF IRL
