Life wins the Ritmix RSL V in the Grand Final over Bomber with a score of 4-2
This weekend, the Ritmix RSL V tournament ended with Life taking the championship. Though a not much publicized tournament, the RSL features some of the premier players in Starcraft today. Among the players finding new life in HotS, Supernova, MMA and Bomber were merely one part of a fairly stacked line-up including household names like HerO, Hyun, Symbol, Scarlett, Lucifron, ATC Terror Dayshi, and even a Chinese duo consisting of Jim and Macsed. With all his troubles in recent months, Life looked less and less like a favorite as the rounds went by, as Bomber and Supernova both progressed further into OSL while Life got kicked out of Dreamhack by foreigners. With community maps like Keru, Fruitland and Frost in the map pool, the stage was set for upsets on a grand scale and broken dreams aplenty.
Life's run to the finals had him defeating players such as qxc, HerO, Supernova, MMA, and Scarlett. But while he met an in-shape Bomber in the finals, it could not be argued that he was up against Bomber's weakest matchup, TvZ, and that he would probably be focusing on OSL at this juncture in time.
In one of his first convincing showings in recent months, Life was able to overcome Bomber in the finals with relative ease. After losing the first game, three victories quickly followed as the Startale Zerg did a few things right in the matchup once again. Despite a few questionable moves and decisions that cost him game five, he was able to come right back in game six and clench the final game and the tournament, ending his four-month drought.
An unfortunate incident also occurred in the semifinals when Hyun was unable to find a suitable computer to play on while in China for IEM Shanghai. Because of his busy schedule, Hyun was unable to reschedule and was thus forced to forfeit both his semifinals and 3rd/4th place match.

it was a great series! GJ to life (hopefully this can delay Bomber's law enough to get him past Rain!)
|
a big story here is scarlett coming third (going 2-3 vs life), a really incredible results with rsl's lineup !
Ps.
Also mma going 2-3 vs life, pretty insane for mma currently

Once again, Life is not in a slump just because he didn't win a major tournament every three months. Being consistent is extremely hard in SC2.
Anyways, gogogo Bomber, you lost now just to win in the OSL!
|
I didn't watch this tournament, but looks like Scarlett doing quite well. GJ!

Did anyone watch the life/bomber games? Were they pretty good?

RSL is probably the most underrated tournament. The lineup is consistently so good and I love how they use all sorts of maps.

Wait what, a full tournament replay pack? And I was searching for Life replays today lol, this is great! The write-ip is not too shabby either .

Nice 1st and 2nd place finish for Startale as well

Indeed, Life is (/was) in a slump because he simply wasn't playing well.

Well this is great ammo for the bomber vs rain thread ill be massacring soon. Well done Life!

Thanks for the write-up, guys, good job!
Was a great tournament although it's a shame Hyun couldn't manage to play his last two matches.

Life's non-mirrors are still phenomenal, possibly comparable to Soulkey's. However, it seems like its been forever since he's won an important ZvZ match.

The last significant (that I can think of) ZvZ he won was against Leenock in WCS KR Season 1, he'd lost 0-2 just a few hours earlier. Prior to that, he beat DRG at ISQ2. Besides that, he really hasn't won much in ZvZ, especially not against KeSPA Zergs.

Anyways, gogogo Bomber, you lost now just to win in the OSL! Agreed. No one can be so consistent at this game that you expect them to win every major tournament they attend. Life's still one of the most consistent players we've ever had. You can't accuse him of slumping for only getting top 4 at dreamhack and shit like that (which is just ridiculous). He could totally flop 3 more tournaments and he'd still be a contender for top 3 zerg. He's demonstrated more than enough consistency to deserve a good bit of leeway before you accuse him of falling off.

I didn't watch the tournament but congrats Life !

During a complete different metagame when 2 base mutalisk was the strongest build.

Life's actually looked pretty decent outside of his ZvZ recently. His ZvZ though...

Thank you so much for releasing replays, makes watching these games a lot more enjoyable for me <3

It seems a bit strange that a tournament with such good players and a not-insignificant prize pool passed me (us?) by with so little fanfare.. maybe we're just spoilt at the moment with so many other high profile tourneys that it got overshadowed..
|
i have no idea how i missed this tournament.... it looks so awesome. i'll definitely tuen in to the next one!

Tune in our next seasons guys, thanks to all for watching! And thanks to TL eSports for this write up <3
|
Grats to Life ! Still a baller as long as it's not a ZvZ
|
Probably enough for Life to be highly recognized by TL PR... with honorable mention. /kappa
|
Well that was to be expected GG life !
also gratz to RSL,for an online tournament this is a good money prize.
|
RSL is indeed the most underrated tournament out there. Crazy lineup, pretty good prizepool, gets covered in 5-6 languages, very little to no delay, community maps are being used, .. They even got improved in announcing their schedule. It's about 2 days on beforehand now (I remember the days they announced it on the day itself ).
With a lil more consistency in the LRs and preview/recaps, this tournament can get the numbers of offline tournaments!

They didn't have english casters did they?

Started with Nathanias, followed by ESLTaiwan (originally commentating in chinese but jumped in when nathanias couldn't) and finished the tournament with Khaldor. There is allways a room for improvement ofcourse but let's not forget that it's a long marathon with an unknown schedule which now and then ends up with conflicting schedules (caster <-> tournament).

Awesome tournament! Had a great time watching. Thanks for using community maps, it was a blast to watch Life and WhiteRa play on the little patch of dirt that I put together. I expect big things for the next RSL!
