Yeah, he unbuttoned the shirt so that is why it looks so silly During casting he had it buttoned up .
And TBs tie knot seems to be a windsor, jacket should defo be closed with that one :o
I have been waiting for a thread like this to pop up. So much pent up rage at the horrendous dressing.
I think while shopping they must have been wondering why it was so difficult to find a white tie.
Don't ever wear a white tie, and don't wear ties that are lighter than your shirt (which shouldn't be too difficult because in general shirt should always be a neutral color) and stick to the fashion rules unless you have mastered them.
dat turquoise shirt for Axeltoss yesterday...if you want a formal look, just go with a light coloured shirt, white, grey, light blue, perhaps a light pink...if you want to wear a fancy coloured shirt, don't wear a tie.
I also think that redeye's combo of jack/shirt/tie with jeans looks silly.
But then again, players wear tracksuit pants for matches in front of an audience of 80,000....

Aw, your collection is missing the silver tie with red shirt / red tie with silver shirt combo they had a few days ago.
I really don't get why wearing a suit makes you a well dressed Starcraft-caster. To me it would make much more sense if they were wearing cool t-shirts and maybe a blazer. Suits just doesn't match the SC2-crowd.

This. Don't know why "professionally dressed" has to involve a suit. As long as the shirt doesn't say "fuck you" or something else obnoxious how does it have any impact on the fan while listening to him? Something I've never understood is why people put so much emphasis on how others dress. The could wear a white shirt with cargo shorts for all I care, I'm there to listen to them cast not critique the outfit.

T-Shirt + blazer looks stupid as hell, so i didn't even consider to include it in the top-lists.

I couldn't care less what the caster is wearing, the brilliant part about esports that I like is that things like Artosis/Apollo dressing up and Day[9] with his ridiculous amount of Tshirts happens.
Esports is special because the caster don't need to look stupidly formal and I think it should stay that way.

esports is trying to become main stream, and almost every sports caster in any televised sport that i can think of you will always see dressed professionally with. sorry that u might disagree but if you want esports to continue to grow and become more accepted then casters are going to have to dress the part. how can u take someone serious if they are dressed like they should be in the audience with the rest of the fans?

Top 5 WORST dressed Casters:
1. Wolf/Khaldor @ GSL
Looks like GSL forced them to wear these stupid shirts. Anyway well deserved rank 1.
2. Husky
Not sure if Husky got his shirt straight from the 70s.
3. Rotterdam
Rotterdam wearing a suit in gang size. Or maybe he worked out hard and lost a lot of weight.
4. Totalbiscuit
Well John, your tie is a little short on this one.
5. Apollo
Shirt right out of the wrapping. Next time iron it first Mr. Apollo.
(6.) Kaelaris
This is a little extra. Kaelaris casting his own marriage?
Top 5 BEST dressed Casters:
1. Kaelaris
That's his regular style. Looking nifty as always.
2. Apollo
Apollo, the son-in-law.
3. Jorosar
Jorosar elegant and professional. Looks like he was born with a tie.
4. Day[9]
Well done Sean. The bigger the audience, the better you look.
5. ToD
French suit straight from the tailor.
(6.) Redeye
Not a caster but... Bond himself couldn't have done better.
Maybe YOU could complete the ranking up to the TOP 10.
Should a caster invest in 1 or 2 well fitted suits?
What the hell? lmao
Okay first of all, it looks like GOM took a page right off OGN & MBC because the casters shared similar wardrobe as well, but they would sometimes change the color scheme. Anyway this thread is too funny.
While I don't think there should be a "dress code" for casters, I sure as hell think that no matter what you decide to wear you better wear it well.
So - if you want to wear a suit and tie, please get one that fits (tailored? even better). And get a tie, belt and shoes that are suitable. If you don't have that great fashion sense, stick to black and white (seriously, nigh impossible to go wrong with a fitted black and white suit, but it's a bit boring). If you have some feeling for what matches what, you can get creative with some colours, and type of tie you wear. Maybe a lapel pin too.
If you want a casual look, do that properly too. Don't end up in some weird no-mans land where you are wearing sneakers with jeans but with a tucked out shirt, a tie, and a ill fitting blazer.
This is my first and probably last post on TL forums. I am mostly the stalker kind here, and watch the streams once in a while.
There is a serious issue with NASL which needs to be adressed, the issue of good taste in clothing.
What the casters are wearing tonight is simply horrid and should be burned live and the ashes scattered in the sea.
First, you can't wear a white tie, never, ever. Even if you are part of the mafia, pretend to be part of the mafia, a douche, simply color-blind or going to your prom.
Second, plain dark brown shirts with plain black suit simply is the horriblest thing I have seen in my life. It makes no sense.
And third, mixing a white tie with a brown shirt and black suit is something that shouldn't be seen, talked or even thought about.
Thank you for the taking the time to read me. I love these casters work by the way.

Don't be like that, we have been overwhelmingly positive about our casters lately, and you're certainly no exception.
Some people take fashion much more seriously than others, and most of us wouldn't even have noticed your tie being too short or Apollo's shirt being unironed (I don't think I even own an ironing board).
It's just hilarious fashism (pun, no typo) and in a good spirit. Don't take it too serious, almost all of us love you, short tie or no.

The professional outfits look silly. Especially Wolf and Khaldor's... I mean, honestly, who picked that shit out? They look like they are little schoolgirls with those outfits! But I like Wolf and Khaldor's casting so it's ok. But I'd so much prefer people just wear their casual clothes. Like when Idra would cast games or something, he's always in his casual clothes or EG shirt or whatever. Who knows though, we might start seeing him in a suit now. (It'd look horrendous)
@TB I dunno about that. I mean, who actually takes this kind of shit seriously? If anyone is taking it too seriously, it might be GomTV. Their production makes everything look totally silly. And of course... Wolf+Khaldor oufits. Admittedly, I am in my boxers, though.

Hahaha this thread :D. Glad someone pointed out the MLG shirts, I always wondered why they were always so colorful...and the black shirt in the screenshot, I've heard that the only appropriate time to wear a black dress shirt is if you're a fascist .
Honest question: Why has men's professional fashion gone nearly unchanged for a century? I find it all rather boring... (to the point where we're nitpicking on fkn tie width of all things).

If esports becomes popular it will have nothing to do with how the casters dress, it already has it's own excellent little niche where exactly the opposite of what you said is happening, why change that? Why not build on it?
I actually don't care whether esports grows or falls, all this fuss about #GROWESPORTS is actually quite frustrating, why can't we just enjoy what we have?

Coming from a guy who runs around in t-shirts and jeans all day, this whole thing just seems silly to me. "Tie too short? NUMBER FOUR WORST OUTFIT EVER" I will admit though, the replies are hilarious.
Imo you need to have it in the reverse order, makes it more interesting to read. You don't want the #1 shown first, you want it shown last! I lose interest as I think each is going to be less interesting than the one I previously read.

Lol this thread is hilarious. So much content for worst out there, pretty sure I've seen much more than what's posted here but can't remember... Pretty much anything the Korean leagues make their casters wear is a candidate for worst. I don't have a pic but the pink shirts/red ties combo that SNM/Whiplash had to wear for a long time in Proleague has to be a top 3 candidate.
Axslav usually looks pretty sharp in his suits, especially black on black, I'd give him a spot in the top 10.

Very disappointed in this. I always respected you, but it's difficult when a fully grown man makes posts like this. No, I don't sit around in my boxers all day. I happen to dress well every single day, because I respect myself, and others who are to see me. Saying the community will take this seriously, while taking this seriously is very hypocritical. I realize you're not going to read this most likely because you're oh so busy. However, I would advise editing your post so as to save at least some of the dignity you still have.
Just because you have a popular YouTube channel doesn't mean you get to comment on threads like these acting all high, and mighty. It makes me sad that someone I actually liked has such little respect for others.
Anyway, fantastic post. Agree with all of these, and had a good chuckle.

You guys don't understand a basic thing here: WCS EU Casters as well as the US boys wear their own suits. Ours are chosen. If you make a ranking like this at least pic the pictures where we wear our own outfits (IEM Katowice, IronSquid, WCS Finals 2012 etc.)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the suit jacket + T-shirt combo that was all the rage in the early days of GOM and Starcraft 2 at MLG. T-shirt and jeans are fine. Suits with shirt are fine. Suit jacket over nerd t-shirt just hurt my brain...

As for white specifically, I can only speak for Sweden, where generally the only time you wear a white tie is for funerals (Along with a white shirt and black suit), and only then if you're a husband/son/grandson/brother/father/grandfather (The line is fluid; can include nephews/uncles, husbands of daughters/sisters etc) of the deceased. Others wear black ties.
In more general terms, I personally don't like the shirt being darker than the tie, which is obviously always going to be the case with a white tie with anything other than a white shirt (Which for me is strictly associated with funerals). At least, I don't like it with a suit. Don't know if this is any actual "rule" of fashion or anything, but I avoid it.

I don't know because they posess knowledge/credentials the casual audience doesn't ? Look i understand what they're going for but no need for going overboard which happens quite alot in my estimation.
I really don't understand why esport commentators should look and behave as stiff-upper-lip formal as other porfessional sports casters. It's a new thing, its very different from mainstream professional sports casting, and it enjoys freedoms that other sports don't have. Lets not give them away only to "further grow the acceptance of esports". Where else could casters make funny references to other players, create casting-memes, or talk about utter nonsense or share some private stuff in boring parts of the game? The fact that the SC2 scene is not completely porfessional, is what makes it interesting. Just look at other professional sports like football, NBA, Baseball, Tennis, whatever. More professionalism means an abundance of streamlined meaningless interviews with players that have been trained by professional PR people to increase their market value. It means arrogant children-millionaires not giving a fuck. It means restricted acces to the actual games, and boring as hell casts with very superficial tactical analysis.
To get back to topic.. though I prefer casual stuff, there is nothing wrong about letting people wear suits as long as the overall atmosphere stays casual and relaxed. And casters people feel comfortable in what they are wearing. WCS Europe finals gave a great example in my opinion. What I don't like is a sense of forced professionalism upon the casters. Always get that feeling at WCS AM. Looks like Axslav and Axeltoss are repeating in their head something like "need to look professional, get a professional pose (awkward hand positioning), need to speak professional, need to avoid puns at all cost...". They look so uncomfortable, it makes me feel uncomfortable myself! I'd love to see them having some more freedom of speech, I mean it's America, isn't that supposed to be their thing?
Tod, easily. Him beeing tall also helps. Till i saw that photo where he wears some white sneakers below his suit , i guess they are realy comfortable. And why the bashing of huskys shirt lol, 70,s shirts are kinda cool ^-^

To be fair casters at least try to present themselves well, even when they don't know much about $wag, while players just seem the recluse nerds they are. That's also a big reason eSports has a difficult time making it big. I showed Dreamhack to a friend of mine explaining everything that was going on and he was somewhat fascinated, then he started laughing really hard when he saw one of the two finalists with undone beard, random clothing, really bad posture, greasy hair etc. Other than that particular case most progamers look creepy (I did too before I quit) because they don't have the will or time to care about looks when they never get out of home. I appreciate that the casters try, even if they are inherently more stimulated to it by the nature of their job.

To be fair it would totally suck if you would have to suit up every time you want to play a match of SC2. And when you only dress up for the livetournaments, you feel uncomfy playing. Skill >> Looks for progamers. (see: MarineKing)
The worst is when the shirt or the jacket don't fit properly. If they fitted at least they'd look confident in their ugly attire. To prove my point Kaelaris is by far the best of the top 10 worst.

Someone's gotta keep you honest, you guys circlejerk with the best of em.
Please TB, it's just a funny thread, there is no bad or serious thing on the OP. It's not Reddit or whaterver, we can have fun, we don't criticize, we make fun with guys we like or support. Why taking this seriously, do we have to be a monk community who can't laugh sometimes (and we are not harsh at all) ? Other casters made funny comments on this thread, why are you the only guy here who insult us ? It's just a fun thread on clothes. Are you trolling us ? We have other thread like that: funny players faces or "look-a-like". Is it insulting to say MoonGlade look like Baltar ?
i think it is really important for both, casters and players to take their appearance seriously. them fulfilling esports prejudices makes it difficult to gain new fans for this kind of competition.

Some progamers look like hobos, some are socially awkward. And while nobody would want them to wear a suit for a match at least you like to see people who take care of themselves.
That´s what the hairdresser/make-up artists do at studios. Last (?) WCG BW in China, Stork looked like the king of hobos.
While some guys look pretty good (dont stone me here, thats just some examples) like Boxer or DeMuslim, most tend to look a little hobo-ish or plain nerdy. mOOnGLaDe or empire´s Happy come to mind.
Question: How can i link directly to empire Happy?

I like the light and funny side of this thread (such as pikapollo), though it is kind of irksome to see random people genuiely criticizing the way others dress. I think that's what TB may be trying to say here.
I think it is not super important to be dressed with a 1000 $ + Suit as a caster, but at least if they wear a Suit they should try to fulfill the basic rules.
1. Wear a Belt matching the color of your Shoes. 2. Wear a good Pair of Shoes (black Trouser -> black Shoes) DON'T WEAR SNEAKERS NEVER EVER!!! 3. Trousers should have the right length 4. Tip of the Tie should reach the Belt. ..... obviously there are some more rules but i guess those are the first most important rules.

You don't have to feel bad. Fashion sense is something that has to evolve. If you don't have to look professional you maybe never have thought about things like: when does a suit looks good, witch color should have my Shoos or witch shirt is the right one. So as long as you don't have to you don't need to. Wearing what ever you feel comfortable in, is totally fine.
wow never thought that so much thought went into your suit stuff. An ESL caster once casted in Bathrobe I think thats cooler then suits, depends on the person though.
I think its important for casters to look good. Its part of the whole package and while I could care less if TBs tie is too short, a non-esports person could look at it and think its silly and not pay attention to the cast because gamers dont know how to dress. Personally TOD looks the coolest here. Everyone should look like James Bond when they cast
BASIC FASION ADVICE if youre going to suit up, suit up right. Jackets and shirts fitted 7 ways to tell if your suit fits, shirt ironed, matching color schemes, match belt color with shoe color and of course... The tie... Double Windsor that doesn't have too big of a knot and that is the proper length (tip on the belt buckle). My qualifications: I learned all this from etiquette class as a kid lmao

I disagree, ToD's look is boring. Even at a formal client presentation, I add some color with a tie. The fit is great, but the color leaves something to be desired.
Do you go for casual gamer attire, or do you go for a suit, for the professional look?
They both have their pros and cons.
Wearing a suit gives the caster an air of professionalism that helps give their voice some weight. Though it can backfire if the person wearing the suit is a scrawny nerd, and even then the professionalism and corporate look is alienating to the viewership as the image projected is aloof and intimidating, not friendly and inviting.
Casual gamer attire, has the effect of being friendly and inviting, but if too casual, makes the wearer seem overly amateurish and light-weight.
Of course a lot of it will be down to the individual, and it is also interesting to see how the choice of clothes fit into the different approaches from the various productions, from MLG Corporate News style to IronSquid's steam-punk casual.

Casters should be professional- suits or business casual. As the day goes on and the event draws, removing the jacket and rolling up sleeves is fine

Professional sport casters wear suits, they are professional. If you want gaming to be taken seriously, then casters should really wear suits.

I consider a black suit with a black tie a funeral attire.

I don't know about never, but in general, I'd refrain from wearing formal black shirts.

You don't need a suit to look professional. Maybe you shouldn't wear a torn t-shirt and dirty jeans when casting a tournament but if you have clean clothes that fits I don't see a problem.
I dont understand the slightest impulse for professionalism, nor the impulse to not swear, be polite [casters or players], not to troll and so on. Its the most schizophrenic thing. Were an internet community coming together over a video game and we do our best to excise our own culture and attitudes in how we relate to one another, in the hopes of bringing people who have nothing to do with us, into the fold. Why would we want them? Why should that work?
To sum up, wearing a suit and tie strikes me of a certain self loathing in regards to gaming culture and attitudes.

Thread is a nice excuse for people to bitch about how others are dressed while in their boxers. Intended as funny, will end up being a shithole as always because community can't just laugh along and has to take it seriously.
There is nothing to me which strikes me as "mad" from TB's post. The thread is intended to be funny and it is. He predicted the future. Nearly 20 people had to quote TB and take his post too seriously. A dozen nerds talking shit to TB which they would never say to his face. Have some respect!

About this... anyone else having the feeling that they don't have legs? Like, it's all white-ish from the waist down - they sit on white-ish and wear white - and it almost blends into becoming invisible.
I still think Blazer-T-Shirt is the worst I've ever seen.
For relaxed fashion (no suit): The Cop-Look is your best bet:
Grab a nice blazer, put on some nice jeans, get a nice dress shirt. Tuck the shirt in, wear a black or brown leather belt, put on some Doc-Martens: good to go. Tie is optional, but I prefer leaving it at home. If you're gonna wear a tie, just wear a damn suit with it.
For super relaxed fashion: Average Joe
Nice dress shirt, pair of shorts or jeans, pair of sneakers (maybe some flip-flops if you can pull it off).
T-shirts are almost always a no-go, but if you are going to wear one: DO NOT WEAR A BLAZER! DO NOT! You look like a high-school kid who just got home from the thrift store when you do that. It's bad enough to make me want to puke.
edit: Suits are always the best bet, but make sure they fit correctly and don't clash. Fashion for men hasn't changed in years for a reason: what works, works. And it works well. Suits will always be the formal dress for men and will always be the right choice for a semi-formal or formal occasion. Being in a public, professional event as a professional is a formal event.
edit 2: LOL @ khaldor in the sweater. He's all buff too so it looks especially ridiculous! I would have died if I had to appear on camera with that thing.

Well considering you're the only person to post that viewpoint, and there are 'nearly 20 people' viewing it another way, chances are your interpretation is incorrect, don't you think?
Also, in case you weren't aware, this site has a pretty decent sized 'older' membership base who wouldn't actually have a problem telling TB to his face that his comments in this thread were (insert various descriptions here). There's nothing disrespectful about having a chuckle at his overly short tie, which is the only thing that people were doing and would have done until his overly sensitive comment. He put a target on his own back.
On the Mr.Bitter best dressed casters - it says "Should go out shopping with Rotterdam" but this should be re-phrased "Should bring Rotterdam along when he goes shopping" etc, otherwise it sounds like rotterdam is the one with the best clothing
Y'all are too myopic, add fighting game commentators to this list and all the other games' people get blown up imo. I like me and Magus1234 over anyone!
Edit: And about the short ties, that's very common for sports commentators. The normal tie length is designed to look good when you're standing up, but when you're sitting down and people can only see a camera view of you, that length can look like it's too long and kinda weird. A shorter tie designed for the commentary booth fixes that problem... but then it looks weird when you're standing up. It's just that a caster like TB is gonna spend most of his time sitting down with a camera on him, so his priority is to look good in that view.

Magus is definitely #1 imo and I'd have myself at second. Dacidbro is top 5 too. And I actually really like Skisonic's look, although I know that's a little more controversial heh.
Idk if somebody else asked this but what is wong with white tie? What rule is that?
Edit: Did some "reseach" by google. It says that white tie used to be used only at funerals but nowadays its very common to use white tie and black suit even tho you arent at funerals. Common party clothes.
