Team Acer can today announce that it will be opening in a gaming house in Germany (Bad Toelz, near Munich, to be exact) and that the first guest of the house will be Mun "MMA" Seong Won, the team's Korean Terran star.
MMA will be staying to prepare for an play in WCS, during which time he'll be streaming and Team Acer will provide the public with videos and photographs of his stay. Besides MMA the house will be used by other members of the team and the staff. 10 PCs means there will be the possibility of bringing in other teams for bootcamps also.
what? Bad Tölz? Why Bad Tölz? hahahaa thats a fucking 20k people tourist village :D
is it april fools day? do they have decent internet there? its 1 hour away from munich airport and so far away from the studio in cologne. I guess its beautiful down there near the alps but for pro gaming?
i really dont understand the reasoning behind this and i feel incredibly stupid because it seems so stupid?! haha

that gym equipment are the need for seat DX Racer chairs :D

well sometimes the gamers house logic is a bit off. Look at mill as an example, they made one in Marseilles, fucking Marseilles, world known for lazy public services bad internet quality and dangerous... Couldn't they just take a parisian suburb ? the internet is awesome and at least its near a city with an international airport.

Yup! That way everybody knows it, so when he pulls out a completely new BO his opponents will be totally mind-gamed
On April 30 2013 04:35 nickbalev wrote: Let me see if i got this straight he will stream his WCS practice and show his build on stream for everyone to study them?
Pretty sure he won't stream his practice and tournament builds, he can just do the standard stuff when he streams. It's not optimal since you can still see habits etc.
Great to see the WCS EU Koreans playing from Europe, this is what Blizzard had in mind and I hope they'll provide some new challenges to our local ladder heroes while they're at it.
It doesnt matter where you play from its what the most cost effective for the company. You just need a place that can provide you with food shelter shitting and internet.
But the house pictures they provided were...lame to say the least.
Bad Tölz is the weirdest choice ever. It's near the alps, where the internet quality can be really questionable. It's more than one hour away from the Munich airport, it's a rather expensive area because that region of Bavaria is wealthy and tourists are stupid enough to pay every price. Well, there's Munich Starcraft, which is a nice tournament, but that's not something that plays any role for that caliber of players. I really don't understand this.

Maybe it was just a vacant house owned by Acer Germany or something.

exactly what i thought xD when in germany it would make way more sense near colonge and the studios for future perhaps offline future etc, bad tölz ... for americans for you that would be like ... hm thats hard i would say thats like THE FUCKING MOON
Well if you look at the Impressum from the their website you already see a address in Bad Tölz. So i assume they already have a office there and are expanding it.
On April 30 2013 05:11 Spackofant wrote: Really nice to hear But i don't get it why Munich and not somewhere close to the Esl studios?
Well, being close to the ESL studios doesn't really matter yet, since matches are played online for the moment...
jaeh the moment, invest in future and i can say you ONE thing for sure! here and i bet on it: there wont be any big tournaments in bad tölz until 3200 A.C. (if the acer house not made them themself)
well if you choose Germany and try to find a place with the greatest distance to Cologne inside of Germany, then Bad Tölz would be a strong contender. :D
but whatever reasons there are... it shouldnt be the main thing we talk about. 10 PCs.. does that mean there is space for 10 progamers to live there? its such a huge step for europe to have a new team house after some closed. its huge news

Well, it depends, maybe Acer didn't want (or had not enough money) to invest in a team house in, let's say, Cologne for exampel (I believe it acts as in France, the moment you get close to huge cities/city centers, flat/house prices go through the roof, correct me if i'm wrong).
Plus the fact that the contact info on their website says : Team Acer by esp entertainment e.K. Hindenburgstrasse 6 83646 Bad Tölz

I feel left out ! Please explain !
It's a German TV series set in that very Bavarian town. The main character is a cop of bull-like statue.
Set in Bad Tölz, Bavaria, the series is about the activities of the local Kriminalpolizei as personified by Benno Berghammer (Ottfried Fischer), the eponymous Bulle (literally "bull", a slang word and the equivalent of "cop" but at the same time an allusion to his bulky appearance), and Sabrina Lorenz (Katerina Jacob), two Kommissare who invariably, at the beginning of each episode, are faced with murder in the seemingly idyllic small town of Bad Tölz or its rural surroundings.
Pretty short first impressions.... looking forward to some more pics soon!
Also, this is pretty nice since I don't think there existed a capability in the EU region for temporary housing and boot camping of whole teams! I hope the place is short way from Munich airport for optimality.
I dunno... Munich is basically as far away from the WCS studio in Cologne as you can get while still staying in Germany... (edit: it's almost 5 hours from Munich train station to Cologne train station by train, and considering the apartment will not be right next to the Munich train station and neither is the WCS studio near the Cologne train station, a ride might take a full day)
On April 30 2013 05:35 JustPassingBy wrote: I dunno... Munich is basically as far away from the WCS studio in Cologne as you can get while still staying in Germany...
1 hour drive to munich airport 1:10 hour flight to köln/bonn, min 6 times a day 15 minute drive to ESL studio
Rent is definitely not cheap there. The region south of Munich is one of the wealthiest regions of Germany. Has to be because of their offices being there or something. Still awesome. Hope to see more people stay there constantly.

EZ
Oh, wow, there are so many direct flights between Munich and Kölm/Bonn? Nvm, didn't knew that (and I always thought that the innergerman flights sucked. :o)

So Kaoru i have a task for you. If MMA arrives i want a video of him, drinking a weizen and eating a weißwurst, saying: "i love bad tölz and this food will help me improve my starcraft play!"
Im very happy that Acer is investing in a team house, its a good thing for E-Sports and its in germany, my home country. Since the alternate Teamhouse isnt used very frequently by the german SC2 progamers, its the first one here. (If you dont count Takes flat in Krefeld, which is not a really "teamhouse" but its often used by them for practise).
Im wondering what happened to the Teamhouse in Sweden, where all that Gamers like TLO and Morrow have been gone some times ago. Is it still existent?
On April 30 2013 08:03 Sent. wrote: I can't imagine Nerchio moving there. Isn't team acer too small to own their own gaming house?
That's what I thought as well, at least if the house is supposed to house up to 10 people. They might consider picking up a league of legends team? Promotion series are up and quite a few of the teams in it are not sponsored.
The best bear is from Belgium and there are some that are a thousand years old and still produced by monks living without wifes and everything (there is a label for it actually).
I hope it's big and that there is a permanent translator or something else it will be hard for the players to communicate (i'm assuming there will MC and others too).

Yes sir, you got it but please dont tell anybody, thx in advance.
Honestly these are some pretty terrible first impression pics... How can I get a good first impression off of that? I hate that couch too lol....
But anyways, this is a great thing that's happening! I'm going to erase those pics from my memory and only remember that Acer is taking a progressive step for its players!
On April 30 2013 11:52 TAMinator wrote: 10PCs, sounds like they're inviting AxiomAcer in aswell? o_O
AxiomAcer wouldn't make that much sense considering pretty much all of axiom's roster is doing WCS America. Although I guess Europe->Na ping is probably similar to Kr->Na.
Near the alps, in Bavaria, my only wish right now is that MMA fall in love with this region and stay forever in Europe... Between spending my summer in a crowded GH in Seoul and in a splendid villa (deutsche qualität) near die Alpen, I think he will enjoy his stay. Its just a matter of food now, make sure to get him kimchi at first, and then slowly incorporate pork products and Apfelstrudel and he ll be fine.
PS : 1 hour from Munich airport ? My girlfriend lives in London and is STILL one hour away from the airport she goes to... And (hopefully) I dont remember hearing criticism about the location of Ministry of Win...

I'm from east eu and i get no lag/delay at all on both KR/NA
What a strange location. I would´ve loved if European teams found their way into the Cologne area, where WCS takes place and create an e-sports mekka there. I mean it´s a huge urban area, so you could definitely find some cheap suburban space there within 2 hours of the studio. Someone´s gotta start, seriously, centralize that scene.
Bad Tölz. Beautiful city, was there once during a holiday
I guess it makes sense to put the players near the office location (or maybe into the office?) to save costs etc.pp. Besides that, the dream of making cologne the esports capital of europe, where all the major teams have team houses, is still a long way to go But we all will see what 2013 will bring!

cologne is one of the most expensive cities in germany in terms of rents.
also I'm very thankful to have something within the area I can reach by car without falling asleep while driving ... cologne is not really good for austrians haha

So instead of letting him practice with his other ex-slayers koreans you sent him into a german house with no other players let alone anyone he can talk to in korean about the game? Well thats gonna be sick.

Yes, but the Rhein-Ruhr area is quite large with lots of living space within a reasonable distance, i.e. not needing to board a plane.

MMA will stay in Germany until the end of his WCS Run, to play WCS in best condition. Also he will arrive after the 4th May GSTL Match, so he will be able to play with Axiom/Acer next week-end.
We already discussed with Axiom, and Acer made this move since Axiom agreed to play w/o MMA in GSTL.

they're just taking a flight from bavaria to cologne.. so why should they exactly moving?
Bad Tölz... it has been said already, but that is a VERY weird location.
I hope the decision makes sense for everyone involved and they won't regret it in a couple of months. That said, awesome to see more teamhouses. Thanks to Acer for their involvement!
The Munich StarCraft Community welcomes MMA and Team Acer in Bavaria! We wish you a pleasent and effective stay in Bad Tölz. It would be great if you could join us for one of our events, either a Munich StarCraft Tournament or the Munich BarCraft!
