The best part of this is showing people that Nestea is still relevant. He may not get #1 anymore but he's still present in leagues.
|
It would be great if we also knew the players' salaries, royalties, and stream advertising earnings so we could get a sense of the overall financial rewards for pro gaming.
|
wow that's.. a lot of money. + sponsorships and base salary (maybe?). That's insane!
Never realized.. XD

this is just tourney prize money right?

If it's only based on sc2earnings, without a doubt.

NubainMuscle's SC2 earnings (as of 2013): negative 20$ =)

I'm a huge NesTea fan, but this almost shows the opposite from my POV
He earnt the vast majority of his money in 2010/2011. Since the start of 2012, he's earn't just over $25,000, which is 10% of his total earnings, but almost 50% of the total time he's played the game.
I definitely don't think he's "done" - but he's riding amoungst the lower echelon of Code S players at the moment. I'll always cheer for him, and the crowd chanting his name at Iron Squid II was amazing and if he stays in the scene providing us with those moments, I'm DEFINITELY not done watching him play SC2
Cool stats though, I've tracked sc2earnings for quite a while, the top 3 have remained in that order for quite a while now.
I wonder who the first to crack half a mil will be :o One would think MC, but I would not be surprised if it was Life!

Going through the numbers it looks like MC is pulling in ~90,000 a year just from tournaments alone lol.
Edit- For just 2013 so far Flash is at #7 with 15,000 =D and Roro #1 with ~46,000
Lol...I hate to keep editting but its just funny how the same people who were really good for most teams stay the best. July is the 3rd Highest earner for Startale yet hasn't won anything in almost a year. Also Life accounts for ~43% of all of Startale's prize money.

A few of the players at the top are making more than I do as an IT analyst. Time for a career switch.

That last bit is a bit skewed though, due to Parting departing (rofl) and Squirtle... de-parting...

Do you want me to add year race Distribution?
|
Posted something about this a while back, gonna copy and paste:
There are 11 foreigners in the top 20 highest earning Zergs (2 of the other 9, July and FruitDealer, are not currently playing). But 5 of the top 6 are Korean. Also in the top 20 are Sen and XiGua, who are still SEA/KR based. So 55% of the top 20 highest earning Zergs are non-Korean.
There are 5 foreigners in the top 20 highest earning Terrans, however, one of whom - Sjow - is no longer playing. Of the 15 Koreans, 4 - Rainbow, Select, Rain and Nada - are no longer playing.
There are 8 foreign Protoss in the top 20 highest earning Protoss. Of the 12 Koreans, only one - HongUn - is no longer playing (or so I believe?)
However, this doesn't tell us that much useful information. Most of the foreigners' prize money has come from 2010, 2011, and early 2012. Players like Parting and Life - who only really started winning in 2012 - have already overtaken most foreigners. Only 4 foreigners - less than any for the race distribution shown above - make it into the top 20 worldwide: Stephano, Mana, Nerchio and Thorzain (with Naniwa in 21st).
The numbers will have slightly changed as I believe this was before IEM and MLG, but the point is still the same. I think it's interesting to look at the top earning Koreans and foreigners on a per race basis.
EDIT - or even on a per year basis. In 2010 the top 7 winners were Korean - but 9 of the top 20 were foreign. 4 Zergs (albeit numbers 1 and 2 were Zerg), 5 Protoss (number 3 was a Protoss) and 11 Terrans.
In 2011 again the top 7 winners were Korean, and only 7 of the top 20 were foreign. 9 Terrans (number 1 as well) 5 Protoss (including number 2) and 6 Zergs (including number 3).
In 2012 only ONE PLAYER in the top FIFTEEN wasn't Korean - Stephano, who was the third highest earner in 2012. Only Mana and Nerchio made it into the top 20 besides him. 8 Protoss (including number 1), 7 Zergs (including numbers 2 and 3) and 5 Terrans.
In 2013 so far we have a similar pattern. The top 11 are all Korean. Only two - Snute and Lucifron - are in the top 20. 7 Zergs (including numbers 1 and 2) 8 Terrans (including number 3) and 5 Protoss.
Only MC has managed to stay in the top 10 for each year so far. Despite being the highest earning player overall, he has never been the highest earning player in a year. Mvp was the highest earner in 2011, but apart from that has never finished within the top 10 of a year - making his second highest earner status all the more impressive.

Updated with the 2010only calculations. Will do 2011 as soon as possible..

2012 is now added. So what I get out of this is that every year less Non Koreans are ranked in the top 30. Protoss were the weakest in earnings 2010 and 2011. Terran in 2012. In 2013 Zerg is still powering with RorO in #1; Life in #2 and Symbol #5. At the Moment LucifroN has the most 2013 earnings as a Non Korean. Currently there are only 6 Non Koreans in the Top 30, that means the trend goes on.
