P.E.T.A announced that they will be at the Irvine HoTS launch to distribute flyers calling for sc2 players to remember to have compassion for everything......including Zergs.
Personally, after reading the article on PETA's website, I believe they have taken.......sooo many steps backwards in their progress. My favorite part is this:
And if we had to share our world with the Zerg in reality, I'd like to think that we'd make an effort to understand and respect them rather than sending out the battlecruisers—because the alternative to having empathy for other beings is about as grim as it gets, whether you're a Terran, a Zerg, or a Protoss. OK, whoa, that got kind of serious there. What I am saying is look at the cute Zergling! How could anyone ever want to hurt a Zergling?
also LOL at the first comment on the PETA article, KinyofFive wrote:
As an proud supporter of PETA and an avid Gamer and proud Zerg Player, I would like to remind all that while the protection of animals from cruelty is important, Zerg have a biological imperative to consume all life in the galaxy, and have no remorse. But also look at that face!!
So what about the brave Marines who sacrificed their lives to protect humanity from those Zerglings.
See PETA, I understand that animal rights are important because they are conscious beings that experience pain too, but you don't need to advertise like this.
PETA spends more money on advertising and stupid media stunt campaigns than they do on actually saving animals (probably why they kill almost 90% of adoptable animals in their care yearly)
wish they didn't get any attention >_> scum organization
comparing zerglings to a crocodile is absurd.... Since when to crocodiles move organize and perform military maneuvers under the guidance of a overmind (or local queen after its death) via a psionic link.........
Unless peta knows something we don't ?!?!?!?
but seriously. Peta has been a terrible organization for a long time, killing animals and saying pokemon promotes animal abuse. This is them jumping the shark.
Save the zerglings... please... the Terran marine at least has an individual mind and free thought, Not the mindlessness of a zerg unit (excluding queens)
At least PETA is acting like it's a joke. Unfortunately, their recent track record is so bad that I actually needed to do research to make sure that that was really true.
For this I'm going to upload a video to youtube that's just me roasting Zerglings en masse for 20 minutes (or try to: my comp isn't doing so well now) Edit: that failed MISERABLY, but I killed a group of 255 zerglings with every combat unit in the game. , then I put banelings under them and kept exploding them (using a tester with load function). I've probably killed over 20,000 zerglings today, suck it pEtA.
All of this would have been very funny if it wasn't PETA's doing. This organisation's actions and methods displease me at the highest level. I am upset by the fact that they dare meddle with something I love
Guys. the lesson we need to take away from this is that once, in a while. you need to hug and give love to strange creatures, like the baneling. sure, if you squish it too hard, you get acid all over you and die and excruciatingly painful death, but at least it got the attention it deserved.
The best course of action is just to ignore PETA. They do everything purely for the sake of publicity. The only way to deal with people like this is to just ignore them and move on.
PETA is just a joke, seriously. They did the same with Assassins Creed 4 (even thougth that was a serious one) saying it could encourage people to kill whales.
PETA should just be destroyed, lets hope one day the Zerg invade the earth and they get pwned by tons of fungals.
Its funny to see a bunch of over macho try hards miss the joke. Bravo. You guys are even funnier than this campaign by peat, although a lot less effective.
And they prove it by advocating caring and trying to empathize with the Zerg - a race which is controlled using psionic neural nets with little if any individual identity bent on the genocide of all creatures. There isn't anything to empathize with, because the Zerg (Overmind or Kerrigan) know your mind, and want to eat it. I could draw an analogy to invoke Godwin's law, but why?

PETA is a terrible organization. My wife and I are both animal lovers, both vegetarians, she even works at a shelter full time. But PETA doesn't represent people for ethical treatment of animals at all. They believe that certain dog breeds, like Pit Bulls should simply be exterminated (PETA supports mass-euthanasia for certain breeds). That isn't ethical treatment.
According to PETA:
"Nice" families rarely visit shelters in search of pit bulls, and pit bulls from unknown backgrounds don't always make good family additions.
Pit Bulls are better off dead.
Guess what? I have a pit bull, we are a nice family, and our pit had made a great family addition.

PETA's hypocrisy really irritates me, particularly since I've adopted a dog and several cats recently.
A sure sign we humans are going down the drain sometime rather soon, when real people protest over virtual critters. I have thought that kids these days spend too much time on the internet and with their "smart" phones, but this is a new step. Let me provide a fitting soundtrack for them ...

By the way, Sargent is an awesome dog who deserves a home. If you have a place in your home for him, you should adopt him. I wish I could.
It's not just PETA that is extremely ignorant about pitbulls.
That's why the dog whisperer is so great, he shows pitbulls can be the greatest dogs you will ever have.
Only thing is you need to be very strict who can have pitbulls, but that should be so for all pets imo... way too easy to just ''buy'' animals for w/e purpose that you want.

Yeah, that's pretty sick. Even if we assume, for the sake of argument, that some breeds are somehow "bad", wouldn't it be more ethical to just not breed them anymore and thus abstain from arbitrary killing?
The German section of PETA takes a more moderate stance on pets btw. They basically say that animals should have been left alone, but now that they're here, we should just try and treat them as good as we can. I do agree with them insofar as many pets live so constrained that it amounts to mistreatment. I grew up with cats for example, but those cats were roaming around outside overnight, and sometimes for days. They need that. To keep cats in a small appartment they never get out of produces the crazy, neurotic cats we all know and cat haters hate. A familiy dog is another way of keeping a pet in a good way, because a dog usually gets his fun outside daily and has a lot of company which a social animal like a dog needs. I'd never keep fish in a bowl or birds in a cage. That isn't companionship, that's captivity.
Haha, I actually think this is pretty funny. Every real z-player feels it too!
btw, if you're vegan it's not more than consequent to refuse pets. I respect those people a lot more than some "oh, vegans eat the food of my food"-clowns.
I don't understand peta......don't get me wrong I love my dogs as much as any human. But zergs are a figment of the human mind. They aren't real at all, I don't understand. Besides, if anything they haven't see the wrath of patch zergs haha.

PETA are attention whores. There's simply no other way to describe it. They literally do what they do for the sole and only reason to get attention from people. They throw stupid or just batshit insane stuff out there that they know will cause controversy or discussion just so people talk about them.
Maybe they used to do good, but now? We should treat them like any other troll and stop feeding them our attention. There are many, many other more worthy animal organizations out there.
I wonder, does PETA only care about "cute" animals like cartoon Zerglings and livestock? I'm fully aware that they don't give a fuck about people but what about insects? If anything, the zerg are like giant insects...
Someone should create a save the zerglings map where you use the civilian units to run up to save them only to have them be eaten alive. Victory condition is to lose 100 PETA members before the rest turn into marines.

Don't you think you are taking this a TAD too seriously? Signs were going down the drain is when people like you can't even take something as it is, a JOKE, instead of surrounding it with drama.

Some things deserve drama. PETA doesn't get half the ass-kicking it deserves.
Then again, I commit murder by proxy and eat the results while wearing the skins when the weather gets cold. But I don't try to pretend I'm a saint, either, or try to use the warmth and feeling created by another entity to create empathy and connection for the purpose of increasing fund raising revenues.
Yeah, there's a lot of people upset with PETA in this thread, but then PETA has done a lot of things worth being upset about. And think of the Zerg... PETA is poking fun at an enslaved race that has been subject to constant persecution, genocide campaigns - how can any Zerg feel happy about having THAT brought up all over again? Zergs have feelings too, man.

The thing about the PETA campaign is part of a "current trend" of not taking things seriously. [1] Treating animals well is important and we rather need to do it because we (well the human race) will suffer from it in the long run. Having big salmon farms which feed those fish with lots of grains AND antibiotics does reduce the efficiency of those antibiotics for us humans in the long run; the same method of feeding is used for basically any concentrated animal production. And why is this done? For cheaper meat and more profit. Just buy your meat from a shop where you know it is produced in a more natural way.
Concering clothing I wouldnt be so sure that you wear anything obtained from a killed animal, because most leather these days is just plastics filled with a tiny bit of leather powder and aroma. Many other clothing materials are made of artificial fabrics. We have a "recycling" system in germany for one-use plastic bottles. They are collected at the shops and then go all the way to china (half around the globe) where they are spun into very fine thread and turned into T-shirts and pullovers and whatnot just to be carted back to us in germany again. It is wasteful transports like this "trip around the earth in two legs" which no organization or government really cares about. The same is true for the care of animals ... consumers just dont care anymore and the PETA campaign shows how desperate they are about getting any attention.
[1] Myths and our history are treated rather badly by companies like Disney with such "funny cartoons" like their Hercules; but they arent alone and the Kevin Sorbo Hercules was a joke as well. The pinnacle of nonsensical stuff is obviously the whole Twilight junk ...
lol why do they decide to bitch now.. after 15 wonderful and prosperous years of starcraft, I remember they did this with pokemon too called black and blue (would link but I'm phone). Also they couldn't think of a better name than "thepetafiles" lol stupid peta.
How can people not take this as a joke? I think it is funny, It's just as much a (I think selfaware) parody or satire of their own struggles as it is of starcraft. Most comments here ruins it though.
I agree with PETA. Actually, I agree so much, I'm going to buy them a few pet Ultralisks to keep. keep. They also have to be hand fed, unless you want to damage their teeth by feeding them with hard objects!
Im surprised that PETA had time to make this. I figured they would be too busy since they kill 90% of the cats and dogs that they take in to their 'shelter.'
