I wonder how much HOTS Flash (other Kespa guys) will actually play before this, he said he hadn't played any really in his code A interview and with traveling to MLG after release I doubt he will get a lot of time.

I love MLG and I know the last MLG Dallas was killer on some of the players, but there has to be a happy middle ground.

Would be good, but to be honest I doubt Life cares much whether he faces IdrA or Minigun, seeing how we won't be able to train the matchups anyway. The good thing is that there are only NA players left to be announced and all of the players who are facing an undetermined NA opponent should just be glad they don't have to play a Korean and be happy with what they got. ![]() On March 02 2013 07:02 ALPINA wrote: Show nested quote + On March 02 2013 07:00 StarVe wrote: On March 02 2013 06:58 GoodSirTets wrote: Will idra /minigun even bother to practice for their qualifying game? There's really no technical reason to be closing the beta this early, they should just close it on March 11th. Didn't Flash say in his Code A interview that he hasn't even touched HotS yet? I'm sure there are reasons, technical or otherwise, they wouldn't just go "LOL WE CLOSE BETA NAO xDD" for no reason but to annoy pros and casuals alike. Yes, Flash said two days ago he hadn't played a single game and would prefer not to attend at all if it was up to him. You just have to see it as a fun exhibition tournament and not a serious competitition, that's how I got over the IEM switch to HotS, it's the same with some players only having a week or two of HotS practice because they committed to WoL vs others who weren't ambitious in WoL anymore and got a huge headstart. It'll be incredibly lopsided in terms of preparation but most if not all Koreans should still be able to overcome that deficit through sheer skill. At least once you get to top 8, the matches should be quite good no matter who plays in them.

Oh wait, its HoTS, anyone can take it. I expect big things from Mvp though, he's been able to just focus on hots while he heals his wrists. Mvp is always a great player and many think Terran is the strongest race in Hots right now. Go Mvp!!

I feel like Flash has relatively easy route to Ro8. Parting should be the one advancing there, so Flash vs Parting could be tough for both.

Was something like 93-13 on his TSLPolt account, then he's currently on a new one that's something around 123-22. It usually takes him five minutes to find a game when he streams. Creator is still a tough first round opponent, but Life/Polt would be amazing.

Players will have their life at stake at every game really really exciting, 2011 style. Also straightforward format, better to drag the casual viewers in. No calculation about who get first place in his pool, who goes into LB who has a better chance because he avoids his weakest MU in LB etc. and no constant f5 on liquipedia... Just basic instincts. I like it.

Would love to see HotS Polt take on the best WoL Zerg currently. Him and Creator should be a fun rematch too if Creator gets to practice with HotS some more. He pretty much did five out of six cheeses in the series he lost to Polt As one of the people who "bitched" about no open bracket, isn't every MLG bracket pretty much stacked? We always end up with an amazing championship bracket and lots of great players playing, with usually a few people greatly exceeding expectations. That said, this should be a good event, just wish it had an open bracket too. I also think we're going to see some really short games meaning Zerg will greatly under perform at this event, and Terran will dominate. Will be fun.

Nah, to retrieve your passport, you need to progress though a torture chamber and then a series of death traps in a winding maze of a room. At the end of an exhausting maze where you are deprived of water, food and fresh air, you face Flash in BW to determine whether you can leave the country alive.

Good luck to MLG. I highly doubt you will be able to keep the promise of "minimize downtime". Lets hope you've hired an army of interviewers that wont ask the same questions every time a player appears on the stage and also have plans like having extra commentators talk about the tournament either from a stageside couch or out in the crowd. Also, lets not do something like only show koreans/KESPA players on the main stage. Show the foreigners some love too! All in all, GLHF hope it's a successful event both online and live in Dallas.

This. Now IEM WC not doing it correct, even with the Beta issue they should have better coverage. As long as there is enough streams to ensure the possibility of watching any match eveyrthing is fine.

I am with this man 100%, down time is not acceptable and anything that needs to be changed to fix the issue must be done. Removing the open bracket from the event(not on site, but held prior the event) is the first step toward what is needed. The removal of the losers bracket the correct step to fixing the production issues and keeping things moving at a brisk pace. The players complaining about being knocked out in the first round need to get passed it. You can get knocked out in the first round of the Olympics too, and they only happen every 4 years. The NFL in the play offs is a best of one. No one said this was going to be easy or not be high risk.

The NFL in the play offs is a best of one. No one said this was going to be easy or not be high risk. I think that a tournament should make some effort to ensure the most money goes to the best players, though. From Wikipedia: In a random knockout tournament (single-elimination without any seeding), awarding the second place to the loser of the final is unjustified: any of the competitors knocked out by the tournament winner might have been the second strongest one, but they never got the chance to play against the losing finalist. In general, it is only fair to use a single-elimination tournament to determine first place. To fairly determine lower places requires some form of round-robin in which each player/team gets the opportunity to face every other player/team. Even if this is just an introductory HotS event, showings of skill should be rewarded fairly. Also, if the competitors' performance is variable, that is, it depends on a small, varying factor in addition to the actual strength of the competitors, then not only will it become less likely that the strongest competitor actually wins the tournament, in addition the seeding done by the tournament organizers will play a major part in deciding the winner. As a random factor is always present in a real world competition, this might easily cause accusations of unfairness.
