As it has now been 2 weeks since I made this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=364720, I will now make this the last week. Seeing as how no admins/MiR are responding, I'm just going to conclude that they are far too busy right now. I think the best thing to do would be to create a thread exclusively for SC2 interviews and see if it can get stickied. Thank you guys for all your feedback and comments!

You've made Code S Ro16 three seasons in a row. How do you feel?

On Saturday and Sunday, my computer broke so I couldn't play any games. That's why I arrived early to the studio today so I could practice. I can't focus in PC bangs so I just prepared by watching replays on my laptop. It was hard to play games on my laptop.

Group E had deadly players known as MMA and Mvp. What kind of thoughts came across your mind when you saw your group?

I really liked it. I've been getting called the top Terran lately but it felt like it wasn't an official title unless I beat the other top Terrans. But there are still a lot of players I haven't faced yet so I can't say that I'm the top Terran player yet.

Was MaNa someone who you knew well since you have a lot of foreign tournament experiences?

I met him once in Assembly, where I won by a score of 3-2. He played exactly the same as he did during those games. I saw the benefits today from searching for and studying MaNa's replays.

You constructed additional CCs in a ceremonious style against MaNa.

I wanted to win in our mentality fight. I had a cheese rush prepared for game two so I wanted to tip him over the edge. But then he scouted me right away in game two.

In game two, he got back at you with a nexus rush.

It was so much fun. It made me want to get revenge for the third game.

In the winners' match against Mvp, you showed the more dominant position.

I blocked his attack in game one and won easily but game two was difficult. I had to follow up with a third CC so it wasn't easy.

Currently, you are under consideration as the #1 Terran player. What do you think you have to do to actually achieve this feature?

Since my TvTs are fundamentally solid, I really need to do well in my TvPs now since Protosses are rising right now. Right now, since Terrans aren't doing so hot right now, we Terrans need to stick together and instead of focusing on championships, we need to focus on proving who we are as a race and making a statement. It'd be much better of course if we did win championships, but right now that seems too hard to do.

Lately, people say that you've gotten a lot better.

I recently had to change mouses so it was difficult for me. I'm not sure if that's exactly the reason but all I know is that I'm not satisfied with my performances yet.

As of right now, you can't seem to get past the Ro8 in Code S.

I think Ro8 will be a given for me this season. Ro8 is like basic for me. I've won twice recently in overseas tournaments, so as long as I manage to avoid a Protoss, I should be able to grab the championship.

How are TvZs these days?

It's a lot better than TvPs right now. In TvZs, the better player wins.

Anything else you would like to say?

As I was preparing, I had a lot of help from Sting. I want to thank Sting for that. I want to thank my parents, my aunt, my brother, and my fans for always cheering for me. Lastly, I want to thank our sponsors TLAF, RAZER, and TwitchTV.

You''ve made Code S Ro16 seven seasons in a row. How do you feel?

I had no idea it had already been seven seasons. I found this out through the interview. It's been seven seasons in a row so I feel really good and it also holds a deep meaning. But right now, I'm exhausted because of all the games. I really want to go home and rest.

You beat MMA in just two games and advanced out of your group as second. Were you worried about your head to head score?

Truth be told, I didn't think about our head to head score. In the past in another interview, I was asked if I wanted to grab revenge against MMA hyung. I knew that when I lost against him that it was because it was my fault and that I was lacking in my skills, but I also knew that I had the confidence to win if we ever met again. That's why I got up on the studio today with confidence and didn't really worry about my opponent's intentions.

You won today but you were in a troublesome situation earlier.

I had scenarios where I had to start off the series badly since I lost in the build order battle, and I also had scenarios where I made the wrong decisions so I couldn't block the opponent's attacks. I think suffered quite a lot during the early games.

Why did you lose to TaeJa in the winners' round?

I think skill wise, he was better than me and also, I didn't quite prepare thoroughly enough. Overall, I was insufficient.

Recently, people have been claiming TaeJa as the top Terran.

I always thought that TaeJa and ByuN were really good. Regarding TaeJa however, he's putting up the results that are worth the high standard in which I hold him to. ByuN is also really good but he hasn't made the kind of results he should be with his skills. I think both players hold the potential to win the championship someday though.

Is the current top Terran still you?

Truth be told, skill wise, I'm just not up there right now compared to the other Terrans. There are just so many good Terran players out there right now. The situation is a lot different from last year. I've also dropped in my skill level a bit. Truth be told, in my current state, I think I'm probably ranked around 60th in the GSL. Basically, there are about 50ish players that are better than me right now (laughs). I am saying all this right now because I think this sort of mentality is the reason I have been faltering lately. In the end, the important thing is skill. If my skills are there, I can win championships. I also have the confidence necessary. I lost to TaeJa today but I was never intimidated.

How is your wrist treatment progress?

I have had a hectic schedule lately because of not only my scheduled matches but also because of our sponsor's requested events. Thanks to that, I haven't been able to tend to my wrists lately because I can barely get any rest these days and it's also such a hassle.

In the OSL, you have an important match up coming up against PartinG.

I lost to Flying but so did PartinG. Truth be told, there's really no inspiration there. My only regret right now is that PartinG and my upcoming match determines who advances and who get eliminated, so I'm disappointed about that.

You've had some experiences in losing to KeSPA player lately. What kind of feelings did you get during those losses?

Truth be told, I didn't really feel anything different. I hadn't prepared thoroughly enough and I was also outplayed in other areas. But if we ever meet again, I'm confident enough that I'll win. Games are all about winning some and losing some. It's just that in those situations, I was lacking.

Can you win the championship this season?

It's going to be a little difficult. But I mean, I won in season two when everyone had counted me out so whatever. I think that if I'm given the opportunities, I can always grasp it. If I just work harder, I'm sure the championship is a possibility.

Anything else you would like to say?

I want to thank my teammates, ST_Sound, and NSH_jjakji for practicing with me. For my OSL match against BaBy, PuMa and MMA helped me out so I want to thank them for that. LG-IM's LoL team has a very important match coming up on Wednesday so I hope they do well regarding that. If I get the chance, I want to go cheer for them. NesTea hyung has another OSL match coming up soon. I know he's in a tough situation but I really hope he makes it to the Ro8. (eh? Isn't NesTea already eliminated? http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012_OnGameNet_Starleague_Season_1/Round_of_16 ) I want to thank my parents for always cheering for me. Lastly, I want to thank our sponsors LG, Steelseries, Googims, Nvidia, and Coca-Cola.

Mvp, so boss he doesn't need a fucking interview.

Taeja played quite well. Kinda funny to see him flip back and forth between balance stances week by week at the moment lmao, thanks for the translation.

Pretty awesome play from Taeja considering he wasn't able to practice much this weekend. Just the toll that would take mentally on most players seems huge, but he handled it very well.

Khaldor should read this and realize that it wasn't bm as: Taeja wanted to insult Mana.

Often times being a bit cheeky with manner mules and ccs, nexus' or hatches is about having fun and ertertaining the viewer.

"all I know is that I'm not satisfied with my performances yet."

Taeja makes ma shiver. He still isn't happy with his own performance, while everyone is praising him so much.^^ Kids gonna go places!

not gonna lie, this definitely solidifies taeja as best terran at least for now, he's been atop the korean elo rankings forever, destroying people left and right in IPL TAC3, and foreign tournaments, and now validation through GSL and over MVP no doubt. amazing. His confidence is just exuding from him too, you can feel it in his interview. Good for him, and glad for team liquid. gogo! Terrans fighting!
I now have autographs of both BoxeR and NaDa. I can die happy. Lim Yo Hwan and Lee Yun Yeol FIGHTING forever!

Taeja got a complete interview and mvp is like " I'M MVP GUYS".

When you have 4 GSL titles what's a Ro32? certainly not something worth an interview ah :p

And it is noticable that the possibility of a full LG-IM semi final is still possible :o

Yeah but not practicing for two days right before the actual match is quite a huge deal. He was limited to bad games/gear and just watching replays against MVP, MMA, and MaNa.

Someone needs to give TaeJa PR training and computer training -_-. Pretty sure that he has a razer blade which is a ridiculously good laptop afaik. He should have just plugged his monitor + keyboard/mouse into his laptop and it would have been fine.

Well, maybe it was his monitor that was having issues and playing on a labtop screen is really different.

Taeja such a boss, why does he have to switch mice? He was always a logitech mouse and razer keyboard user, did the team force him to?

Thanks for the interview!
MVP so humble, he shouldn't belittle himself so much, he pulls better results than almost all Ts, despite wrist and neck problems.
Interesting what he says about Byun, I mean I always considered him underrated, but I wouldn't have put him on the same high level as Taeja. Curious if we'll see some big breakthrough by Byun in the future.

I think a lot of the Koreans used to use the Logitech G7x. But now, it is razer or steelseries. The reason is the sponsorship. And for these players, they practice so much that they can get used to it quickly and won't really hinder their performance.

(eh? Isn't NesTea already eliminated? http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012_OnGameNet_Starleague_Season_1/Round_of_16)

Ro16 is round-robin I believe. Nestea going through to ro8 would probably only be possible in some weird tie-breaker situation between NesTea, Oz and Fantasy.

Yes everyone on the team plays with Razer gear. We try to find a good period for players to switch and in TaeJa's case that has been difficult because he was always busy winning tournaments.

Seriously love this interview.

Btw, I think Nestea is not out: if Last wins his remaining matches (3-0), Nestea can force a 3way tie by beating Oz in his last match. I THINK.

How are TvZs these days?

It's a lot better than TvPs right now. In TvZs, the better player wins.

Actually, wikipedia is wrong. He is not eliminated.
There can still be a three-way tie if last goes 3-0 and everyone else is 1-2.

Mvp sounds pretty troubled about his recent form, I really wish he'd skip some of the events that are less important and tend to his health.

(Also regarding the OSL and NesTea; NesTea is basically out, the only way he gets through is if Last goes 3-0 against Oz and Fantasy, then it's tiebreakers).

No razer mouse is good for relatively smaller hands, I was sitting next to taeja in Dh summer and thank god for his g9 i was able to convince the admins that their computers sucked. I have bough abyssys and used it for like 10 minutes and put it away. Also used deathadder/mamba design. Anything else worth trying?

Interesting what he says about Byun, I mean I always considered him underrated, but I wouldn't have put him on the same high level as Taeja. Curious if we'll see some big breakthrough by Byun in the future.

Byun and Symbol were about to breakthrough last season but were their quests were stamped on by Seed who stepped on them to climb towards his current status.

Right now TaeJa is the favourite to win this GSL. Truth be told he can probably win the entire tournament without dropping another map.

Abyssus seems to be the mouse of choice for most with small hands. Jinro and Zenio play with a DeathAdder, everyone else on Liquid has the abyssus. There's a new mouse Taipan that may be good for small hands too, but I haven't tried it yet. If you didn't like those then probably not.

It's just a phrase that Mvp uses, and everytime Mvp uses that phrase Seeker translates it as "truth be told". Can be translated also as "frankly", or "to be honest" or something like that. The phrase seems to appear relatively frequently in interviews I think...

He's part of Teamliquid in the sense that Teamliquid pays him money to wear the t-shirt and win them some games. His main practice and improvement comes from practising with other Koreans. You can look at the last question in this interview, and to other interviews as a source for this.

Well he is 17 so living with his parents is not all that surprising. When he was on Slayers he never was in the house as well I think. He also repeatedly said that he mainly practices on the ladder and according to interview HerO and TaeJa train TvP/PvT quite regulary.

Fellow Terrans, I come to you in the wake of recent events to issue a call to reason. Let no human deny the perils of our time. While we battle one another, divided by our massive number of siege tanks, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that we have accomplished. It is time for us as players and as individuals to set aside our long-standing feuds and unite! The tides of an unwinnable war are upon us, and we must seek refuge upon higher ground, lest we be swept away by the flood.

The GSL TvT is no more. Whatever semblance of unity and protection it once provided is a phantom; a memory. With our enemies left unchecked, who will you turn to for protection? The devastation brought by the alien invaders is self-evident. We have seen our homes and communities destroyed by the calculated blows of the Protoss. We have seen first-hand our friends and loved ones consumed by the nightmarish Zerg. Unprecedented and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our time.

The time has come, my fellow Terrans, to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength; already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many, we shall forge an indivisible whole, capitulating only to a single throne. And from that throne, I shall watch over you!

From this day forward, let no human make war upon any other human. Let no Terran agency conspire against this new beginning. And let no man consort with alien powers. And to all the enemies of humanity, seek not to bar our way, for we shall win through, no matter the cost!

Hail Taeja!
Throw on your favorite jacket and you're good to roll. Stroll through the trees and let your miseries go.

Wow it is amazing the sponsor list that LG-IM has gotten. LG & Coca-Cola + some smaller companies. The only other SC2 team with anything big that I know is Startale-Redbull. But then again LG-IM wins everything, except teamleagues.

______

I think the main reason TaeJa might be balance whining about TvP is probably First, it's not like he has a TLPD winrate of like 65% in the matchup or anything... But First took him out a couple of times recently, as the only person really able to do that.

And lol, humble Mvp, makes it to code S round of 16, claims there are 50 players better than him. It's the perfect anti-jinx. TaeJa on the other hand might be totally jinxing himself.

Both very interesting interviews! Thanks as always SeeKeR. :D

Nah, the whole purpose of there being no casting is to put less pressure on the players, so not likely to happen, though it would be awesome.

Not casted by GOMTV, but maybe through some volunteer casters like Khaldor.

Nah, the whole purpose of there being no casting is to put less pressure on the players, so not likely to happen, though it would be awesome.

Damn! Wanted to see some Flash games.

Taeja thinks that the better player wins in tvz because he wins every tvz, taeja also thinks that tvp is imbalanced because First keeps beating him, well, no shit mah bro.

We'd rather just listen to MVP, the truth teller and our one true king.
So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie

Seed also took him out convincingly in S3.

lmao. MMA helped MVP for his OSL matches? How can you do that, if you're meeting yourselves in a bit. MVP must have asked MMA to play a very particular style, otherwise he would *have* to be concerned that MMA was holding back on specific strategies to use against him, unless there was some reverse psychology going on there.

Ahh, I thought I remembered that happening, but as I was about to write "Those LG-IM protosses", I realised I had lost track of when it happened and decided to go for the option I was 100% sure about, that being First. :p But yeah, Seed took him 2-0 in the round of 16 last season.

lol I was about to make a post saying "take a shot every time he says truth be told"

It's nice to see that MVP is humble and admits that he's not as invincible as he use to be.

lol

Oh you fools...

In Korean, we use the phrase: 솔직히 말하자면 to convey that there is something we need to get off our chest. And that phrase translates to truth be told. Don't belive me? Here is Mvp's interview:

Source: This Is Game

Now I admit I could probably use another word like "honestly', but truth be told works fine.

They respect each other enough to not have to hide strategies to win, I doubt MMA held back at all. There's not much you can hide in TvT when you play marine tank vs marine tank, It's just whoever plays better wins.

There are tons of different variations and mind games going in TvT. To say it's that simple is ridiculous.

Sure there are variations and mind games, but the point is that they are rivals and probably don't care or want to hide strategies in order to win but instead want to use their raw skill to outplay each other. I mean why would MMA practice with him if he was hiding things?

mvp's interview reflects the reason to like koreans besides their mostly higher skill level. theres no excuses, he blames his losses on himself and his own skill, and doesn't blame it on the "bullshit" game.

This is true for alot of Koreans, but MVP alot moreso. Read any of the interviews, it's the same, even when he was dominating last year. Like when he lost to MMA at GSL finals at Blizzcon; where the interviewer was trying to say that MVP was in bad condition and MVP said that it would just be an excuse if he said that and was just not up to par in skills, or his Blizzcon winner interview: "Nestea is the best zerg, and I'm a decent terran". He's incredibly humble.

Sometimes I forget that MMA is an old man and I am briefly surprised when someone like MVP calls him hyung. For whatever reason it seems to me like MVP is the older of the two, MMA just has that little kid feel to him I guess.

Yeah except they also blame their wins on a perpetual streak of luck, and theres nothing to respect about that forced humility bullshit.

MVP (and almost every other Korean) has complained about balance publicly at some point or another, as well as made excuses based on other things. Yes, they try to avoid it more than most foreigners, but a lot of the time it's just because they don't want to sound like they're whining more than actually believing what they say.

Because gamers have said that in interviews all the time?

That they won't use any special strategies they have prepared? Sure, he may have played as strong of a standard game, or threw in some known tactics here or there, but if he had anything special planned I highly doubt he would have used it.

In fact, if anything, being rivals would make them significantly more likely to hide something.

So players have to switch to gear they're not comfortable with for sponsorship reasons?

Sponsors aren't going to pay people money to not use their gear. If a football team gets sponsored by Nike and then picks up a player who has always used Addidas the player either adapts or gets dropped. Pretty standard.

Actually, if you read the interviews, the response is different depending on the question. When asked about a lost/win versus a specific player/game, they will usually give credit to the player. They rarely say things like 'Oh yea, I lost to Symbol because zerg is OP". However, if they are asked specifically about a matchup, they will say "I am having trouble with vs Protoss. Protoss are really strong right now. Or Queens are really good after patch and it is hard to beat zerg.
