I'm kind baffled about some posts here about it being "unprofessional" or shit like: Well X got it worse and he/she still did it.
Not sure if some people are trolling because it's really ridiculous to have the nerve that you know what he's going through. Obviously he hasn't got something like cancer or whatever, but think about it, why would you fly to Korea when you're really ill/ not fit, to then go up against some really skilled Koreans who are on the top of their game when you're not in mental or physical shape. What will happen is that he will fuck up there because regardless if he's sick or not he will have a hard time, don't really get why it would make any sense to go there because you WILL NOT preform how you normally would.
Finally it also has ZERO to do with being unprofessional or disrespect to GOM because he simply cannot preform in his current state, please give me one reason why it would be unprofessional or disrespectful to choose to not play when you're in bad shape.

TL is correct.

Can someone explain how the "seed is vacated" ? Wasn't he already given the seed, and he is now in the Up/Down matches based on how he has done previously with that seed? I mean he'll still be Code A.
I could understand if he dropped out of GSL, I could understand if he was given a Code S seed and then forfied that before his match.
But look at it this way, in his current state even if he showed up he wasn't going to win and he would have fallen to Code A. Nothing was lost, he is ending up where he would have ended up if he tried to show up and play. Let's be honest you don't have to look much further than his MLG performance to know the guy is really just hurting. Trying to do any job feeling that ill is near impossible.
I actually think it would have been worse to show up and play horrible, talk about disrespectful. Everyone waking up early just to watch him lose.
So I guess TL;DR - Isn't he ending up in the same spot he would have even if he attended? He isn't taking anything FROM someone, and he isn't giving up what he didn't already have costing someone else a spot.

I wonder if Jaedong would forfeit a tournament spot if he were sick...it's just the spirit of the thing that people are pissed at. Like, just the word "forfeit" doesn't register with some pro gamers, haha.

I wonder if Jaedong would run a Spartan race if he'd had three limbs amputated. Probably not, because he's a TOTAL WUSS.

Also the saying you're going to focus on WCS practice instead is just insulting to the GSL. GSL is the most prestigious tournament in the world and was kind enough to give you the privilege of playing in their league. Did he even try to get it rescheduled?
This is real real dumb. Pro football players have litterally one obligation, to the NFL. Thorzian has multiple obligations, and they involve things like flying across the world. If he is very very sick, so sick that he couldn't compete at a tournament where he was physically located, it does not make sense for him to fly across the world to play in another tournament. He also owes it to his team to get well as soon as possible to represent them/their sponsers in other events. It helps no one if prolongs his recovery and plays badly in everything. Also, those guys get paid millions of millions of dollars. Your analogy is terrible. Also, as many people have pointed out, he was not seeded into up and downs, he was placed after his Code S performance last season. Total fucking nonsense. My sister-in-law who was 24 was going for cancer treatments for stage 2A lymphoma ... and then teaching for 8 hours a day just so she could make sure she got tenure in a highly competitive teaching market (NYC grade school). For lunch, she would go puke her brains out in the bathroom. Seriously, go fuck yourself - your post is insulting to anyone who's actually been seriously ill and still had to grind at adult life. User was warned for this post
You are misunderstanding my post.
Sometimes in life you have to suffer greatly to get what you want/need. However, there is no point in putting yourself in a bad situation in which you will perform badly for very little gain. I would make this analogy - You are supposed to participate in a presentation at work but are very sick(to the point were you cannot see yourself doing any type of good job), and so you decide to stay home and get better so that you can show up the next day(rather than being out all week). Sure, you not showing up does hurt the presentation, but it will still go on as yours was only a medium to small(1/5 in this case) part of the whole.
Good luck to your sister.

GSL is a long term tounry. Forgein tounrys are 1-3 day events and instant payouts.
Also winning GSL as a forgeiner has never been done.
GJ Thorzain going for the smart money. Nice to see someone with a brain.
This. He's done it before. And of course it'll give him time to recover his health.

Lol
goms never gonna stop giving seeds
its a really good business for them. I mean,
think of how many viewers they can attract from giving out seeds to big names
like stephano and naniwa (which he already got and maintained ). I, for one, do strongly agree
with gom giving out seeds because its way more entertaining to watch koreans vs foreigners than
just koreans vs koreans.

Even Gods get sick from time to time. Thorzain will be back and when he comes back he will have mastered MVP TvZ.

big difference between someone being ill where they live and are use too and people who are ill and in a totally different country.
Hope Thorzain recovers and gets back to his best!!!

Well, if he had to fly half way around the world for the tournament... probably? KeSPA wouldn't let him go, anyway

If he was sick, and needed to fly through a typhoon literally hours after ending a tournament, at which he could barely play because of his illness? Yes. He would forfeit.

Stupid and selfish. typical TL gsl only relevant tournament everything else is for scrubs attitude Well, GSL (and not OSL) /are/ the only top tournaments, yes :-P That being said, it doesn't change the fact that ThorZain seems to have a rather good reason to forfeit his seed. I don't recall people giving Boxer shit when he withdrew... Heck, ForGG and GanZi forfeited Code A because they didn't feel like participating and people didn't complain. Feels like foreigners are sometime held to a higher standard on TL. Perhaps because the people you mentioned earned their seeds, Thorzain got one for free because he's a foreigner. I'm sure he had his reasons, but it's a bit sad to deny such a spot...now some korean dude doesn't have it :/
But he didn't get a seed into the up/downs. He didn't accept a seed and forfeit after that. He got there by falling from code S but not in last in his group. Sure he was seeded in code S but these up/downs were not a seed he could for go.

Bah, Stephano not playing, ThorZain not playing. Boring..
|
Surprising negativity towards Thorzains decision. I wonder if Ganzi and ForGG got the same negative reaction thorzain did.

There can be only one sweede in the gauntlet. It is the way the gods demanded it.

viOLet also chose to forfeit his up-and-down matches.

Me and my buddy bought tickets to this event, cant wait to see thorzain playing on his homestage
