[Interview] 2012 GSTL S2 R2 Group A Loser's Match

You ended the match on your own. How do you feel?

I’ve never scored more than a single kill in GSTL before let alone an all kill so I’m extremely happy.

Were you planned as the second player?

Yes. I was to snipe the Terran player if Alicia lost.

Byun was the starting player so your rematch was a possibility from the beginning. Did this put pressure on you?

A little. However, this just motivated me to work harder. I’m glad it paid off.

Your win rate against Protoss is the highest of any Zerg but Creator came out to face you as the second player.

Frankly, I thought that Creator would be the biggest hurdle on Prime. I meet him regularly on ladder and he’s just a very well rounded and solid macro player. So I gave myself about 50%. I worked hard on ZvP as well.

BboongBboong came out as the third Prime player and your win rate against Zerg is barely over 10%

I do quite well in ZvZ in practice but not so in tournaments. This eroded away my confidence and made me start doing some strange play which made it even worse. With today’s victory, I think I can perform well in ZvZ also from now on.

When did you feel like you could all kill?

I felt it as I took down MKP. There was no way I could avoid MKP and I actually practised ZvT very hard so played as I had planned. As I took down MKP, I predicted that Maru would come out next.

Didn’t Byun’s quick return to glory make you impatient?

I was more jealous than impatient. I’ve been number 1 on the ladder but keep failing to qualify for Code A so I had my fair share of disappointments and despair

Qualifying for OSL seems to have given you a boost.

Initially, I thought I wouldn’t do well after looking at the bracket. There were too many great players in my group. Having qualified out of such a group has given me confidence.

Does your all kill today signify your return to glory?

My return will be when I hit ro16 in OSL and qualify for GSL. It will only be after I start doing well in individual leagues.

Your next opponent is Fnatic. How do you expect it will go?

Fnatic has many great Zergs. As long as I practise ZvZ well and stop aLive, I think we can reach ro4.

Every time Byun has an interview, he wishes you well. Do you have something to say to him?

I’m really grateful to Byun ‘hyung’ for watching out for me. I hope we both do really well in GSL and meet in the upper rounds.

Today’s all kill was thanks not only to my skill but also to my teammates who practised with me. MMA left Korea to attend an event tournament in the States today so I hope he wins that. Also, Crank and Miya got eliminated from Round 1 of Code A and I hope they are feeling better and do even better in the future.
