April 27, 2012 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that it will offer a beta sneak peek of StarCraft® II: Heart of the Swarm™ to attendees of Major League Gaming's (MLG) Pro Circuit Spring Championship event, June 8-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. A large number of public demo stations at the event will allow attendees to try out the latest multiplayer build of Heart of the Swarm in advance of the upcoming beta test. Spectator passes for the MLG Spring Championship are available here.
Top StarCraft II pro-gamers from around the world will battle for $76,000 in prize money at the Spring Championship, with the first place finisher taking home $25,000. In addition to the MLG competition and Heart of the Swarm demo stations, the Anaheim event will also feature the USA National Finals for Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft II World Championship Series. Participants in the USA Nationals will vie for $30,000 in prize money, as well as invitations to the upcoming North America Continental Finals of the StarCraft II World Championship Series. The top finishers in that event will represent their countries in StarCraft II at the Battle.net® World Championship event taking place later this year in Asia.
With two major StarCraft II eSports tournaments and the opportunity to play Heart of the Swarm in advance of the beta test, eSports fans have plenty to look forward to at the MLG Spring Championship event in Anaheim. I think that they have to do some streamed matches of Pro vs Pro to make this interesting to anyone else then the people there, if they can make that happen i think it's great, but for anyone who lives in europe and won't be able to make it there, this is just not interesting at all.
Sounds good, especially since I might be able to go. Good thing it's already in beta now, blizzcon build was 100% alpha, makes me hope that we will actually get to play the beta this year.

Exactly. I tweeted at @MLG and @MLGAdam to give us some Free For All or 4v4 or anything really. Just a few broadcasts of HotS games would be great. Let's hope Blizzard is up for it too and let's make this happen.
If they make some showmatches, try and have some games where the players goof around, but it would be cool to see two players who desperatly doesn't want to lose to each other duke it out in HoTS. Just so we can get to see a smidge of competetive gaming from this expansion.

This is pretty awesome. I really do want to go but i live in NY and the tourney is in CA. Quite a bit of money it will take to get out there and tickets and hotel costs.
Calling it right now: Yell0w to be there along with bisu jadeong and flash and surprisingly boxer, there will be a showmatch between boxer and yell0w. Yell0w has secretly kept practicing since project yell0w and is now a top 50 GM on the korean server.

What you don't realize is that reactors don't exist in BW, massable terran units are even more massable in SC2. They probably had a goliath similar to BW in early builds but realized the easy spammming of this very polyvalent unit was too much. The obvious answer is to allow only tech lab factories to produce goliaths but then you have to make it stronger, bigger, cost more supplies, less polyvalent to compensate...and the Thor was born.
With the Warhound, they seem to take a step back and try to make a Thor more goliathy, but I don't know if there's a place for such a unit in SC2. If I absolutely need a tech lab to make them, why not make tanks or marauders ? Maybe they're not as polyvalent but they have so much power...

So remove the only flaw for the roach, the fact that it is supply inefficent. I think roaches are fine, but I think the Warhound should be in the game over the thor. Heck, I don't think it should require a tech lab, if it is possible to balance it that way. Give terran the ability to super macro as mech.

I think a smaller mech unit would be better than the thor, the thor sounded awesome way back in alpha/pre alpha but I think aesthetically with the rest of the terran army it doesnt look good and in the beta I was one of the people that didn't want them to take out the thor when they were considering it and decided to reduce its size radius. I agree with the make battles feel bigger notion. Terran just needs another unit they can throw in their usual ball army to make them feel a bit more diverse. I think a goliath that is a "better marine" where it has similar ground dps but the thor anti air capabilities but obviously would cost more gas would help balance out the compositions of unit decision making; just my opinion not saying its right or perfect.

Well, the speculation has been spot-on so far, and I expect it to continue to be spot-on as more news rolls in. Thank goodness we weren't trolled too hard, because if this is just the tip of the iceberg for excellent news about MLG Anaheim, then it's truly going to be an epic event, which almost seems like an understatement at this point with all this hype going around.

As cool as that is, this means the beta won't be here for another two months. I know they want to polish it, but it's not like they're making the game from scratch, it's basically an updated version of WoL.

Hots is expected to be released in Q4 of 2012 so we are looking at Oct-Dec. I would expect something like a NOV release that way all the parents can buy it for the holiday season. If we look at the time line you have may D3, then something like Sep WoW and Nov Hots. interesting year.

That's why I didn't change any of my Hotkeys except for swapping Backspace and Space for when I offrace as Zerg. You get used to pressing "L" and "P". It also gets you used to stretching for the "0" and "9" keys.
My idea was that if Flash dominated BW with the crappy BW hotkeys, then I would be fine with not changing anything. Not to mention it comes with the perk of never having to change your Hotkeys during HOTS test.

That's kind of a moot point. Every BW player, dominating or not, had to use crappy BW hotkeys. There's no glory in using what everybody is forced to use...
ANd I think, that those Queen and Overlord buffs are pre-Overseer deleting from game. With those buffs zergs will be able to live without Overseer.
Why? Spores can be placed everywhere, because more creep. Spore healing. Viper healing. Queens are better defended vs cheeses, that zergs was not able to scout. Defence becomes stronger, because more transfusions.

This is blizzard. The fact that we know that there is gonna be a beta this year is already more certainty then they usually give. I approve of the "it's done when it's done" attitude they have with making games, and it hasn't failed them yet.
This seems like an awesome idea, fans will be able to play the new expansion pack while observing their favorite progamers battle it out in the booth. Good job Blizzard!!!
