I was confident in my games against MC. My winrate in practice was good. However, I regret showing shaky play in Set 1 because of nerves. Still, advancing into the round of 16 feels great.
What did you think after seeing your group?
Others told me that it would be difficult but I was confident. Lately, winning a lot in practice gave me a boost in confidence.
Weren’t you nervous against Nestea?
I was in Set 1 against Nestea.
You’ve lost 1:2 to Nestea before in Code S.
I’ve changed a lot since then. I will no longer show games where I lose helplessly.
Any difficulties in today’s games?
It was hard to stay in good condition for today’s games. I was worried because I didn’t get much sleep but it wasn't as bad as I expected.
Your macro abilities have gotten stronger since Up and Downs.
I think it’s because I’m getting used to being on stage. Compared to before, my image as someone reliant on build order wins is disappearing but I will try to utilise it a bit more. If I meet a Zerg, I will mix in a cheese.
What do you think about fans who are interested in your appearance?
I’m not sure. I’ve never thought that I’m good looking. Also, I don’t have many female fans. No, I don’t have many fans in general (laugh)
Any players you want to face in ro16?
No one in particular. I just don’t want to be in the same group as my teammates. However, July suggested that four Startale members form a group so that two people make it through no matter what. Parting is trying to force me as well (laugh). I think it’s a terrible idea.
Anything to add?
I want to thank Curious, Parting and Tiger who helped with practice. I also want to thank BenQ, Red bull and Zowie Gear for sponsoring my team.
You’ve advanced to the round 16 yet again this season. How do you feel?
I wasn’t expecting to lose against STVirus but he’s improved greatly. He’s got his fundamentals down solidly. I think I played bad games because I underestimated my opponent. Lately, Parting is drawing a lot of attention for his strong PvT so I want to show off my strong PvT as well.
You met Inca in the loser’s match. You can’t have been happy.
Even in the past, every time we meet, we meet in the loser’s match and I always in. I am sorry to have eliminated a close friend. I don’t want to be in the same groups as oGs members.
Inca is well known for his PvP, why did you win convincingly?
In the Ranking League (T/N: in-house tournie I think) in the past, I’ve played him often and know his style well. I seem to make use of the information we have on each other more. I excluded a lot of build orders in my play today.
You met Nestea in the final match. It’s been a long time since you two played, how did you feel?
I could have met him back in July Season but because I lost to Hongun, it couldn’t happen. Now, because I am confident in my PvZ, I looked forward to the matchup.
It’s your first time at the Mok Dong studio in a long time
It’s been such a long time that I couldn’t even remember where to catch a taxi. I don’t come to Mok Dong often but I am attending a lot of foreign tournaments. It’s taken a toll on my health so from now on, I plan to work out and control my tournament schedule a bit more.
Lately, Parting is threatening your position as the toss president.
If the fans think so, I can’t help it (laugh). However, Parting has never made it to ro4, hasn’t won a championship, and there’s a big difference in prize money won. So far, I don’t think there’s a player who can challenge my position. I did feel threatened by Genius but thankfully, he took second place (laugh). Also, Parting’s PvZ and PvP seem to be weaker than mine.
A Protoss hasn’t won the GSL in a long time.
Unlike the other races, Protoss hasn’t got various weapons. Even when the upgrade style became popular, the style only got used in GSTL and Protoss was weaker in GSL. Last season, I thought that Genius would win but he took second place after he took risks. I actually think the Protosses that are in the spotlight at the moment all have the capacity to take the championship. If these players can ride this momentum and luck is on their side, they can win.
Hasn’t practice been hard for you since joining SK Gaming?
There isn’t a big difference. My results in Korea are about the same. On the contrary, I made it back into ro8 after joining SK Gaming. Starcraft 2 System allows you to train easily at home. Of course, coming up with builds was easier in the training house.
Your interview with a newspaper was portrayed in a powerful way
At the time, I made those comments hoping that the practising players get to work in better conditions. I said those words because I know just how difficult it is in their situation. I didn’t have any malicious intentions. I did say those words, but they were reported in a way that made it seem like I was trying to misrepresent the scene, which disappointed me.
You get to nominate your group. How will you use this privilege?
It depends on who Genius picks but I won’t be picking a Protoss. I will reveal all tomorrow.
Anything to add?
oGstheStC and oGsJookto helped with practice. Also FnaticRCaLive helped. EGJYP helped with PvP three times. Lately after leaving oGs, I feel like I have become distant with my friends. I want to say sorry to Huk and Jinro for not contacting them often. I also want to thank my girlfriend who always cheers me and coach Go, Yeon Shik (T/N: reis?) who always takes care of me when I’m in foreign tournaments. I hope to have fun tomorrow at group nominations and I hope they install fans in the booths.

I think it's a terrible idea also. Lol. Interesting though. It kinda makes sense to have 2 of their best definitely make it through to the Ro8 rather than have the risk that none make it through.
wow. usually you see like... "i wasnt confident at all because i won 2% of my practice games against the random code b players on my team but somehow i was able to turn that into a 2-0 win over my code S opponent. Virus is breaking the mold

The way Startale is playing lately, they don't need to do this. They have so many players that are on a roll right now! With only two Z left, I could see Parting even take the whole thing.

Prime will have something to say about this But yeah, he improved a lot lately and I didn't see this happen. I kinda liked him before, because he was getting way too much undeserved hate and seemed to be a funny guy, but he totally impressed me today! Thumbs up Virus, great job! :D
Someone start brainwashing July into being more optimistic. StarTale is on fire! They sure as hell don't need to be in a group together for 2 to go through, at least
On April 14 2012 19:13 GreyKnight wrote: someone explain what they mean by newspaper? what did MC say?
I only know what MC said on twitter a while ago but it sounded like MC talked about working conditions for the lower end progamers and how difficult it is for them to make it big. Something along the lines of "you see myself and other champions making lots of money but there's heaps more who get nothing even though they practise like robots".
The newspaper seems to have misrepresented his views and made it sound like MC is critical of the progaming scene or something.
MC is right no protoss right now is looking to take his toss president spot. Min Chul has accomplished far more than any other protoss in the sc2 scene.

I think, if another Protoss gets a GSL championship then MC will feel threatened. As of now, he's still comfortably ahead in terms of results, both recent and overall.
Love how confident MC is. Would love a rivalry of sorts between him and Parting; both are very interesting players.
Will be interesting to see who MC picks tomorrow. The logical choice for him would probably be a zerg, but he seems intent on proving his PvT is as strong as Parting's and MC doesn't usually pick according to what gives him the easiest group.
I suspect MC will pick a fairly strong terran. Maru would likely seem too easy and look like MC is trying to get an easy win (despite Maru being no push-over), thestc and supernova are on ogs so he won't pick them. The only terrans remaining then are virus, mvp and taeja. Taeja is Liquid which might mean MC won't want to play him, but as he wasn't on liquid when MC was on ogs I don't know if it matters to him. MVP has wrist problems and hasn't been looking too strong lately. I think MC will pick Virus to prove that today was a fluke.

His statement about Genius picking a player makes me think it's likely to be a Zerg. There are only 2 Zergs, so it's more likely to depend on what another player picks.

He wants Parting to pick him so that he will not have to face Mc. just joke but it is reasonable...

You forgot about mkp, given MC's personality, i think he will try to pick and take out players who is being hyped everyone to uphold his pride( he has done it by picking mvp when mvp was dominating much harder than mkp currently is). on the other hand if he want easy wins, he should definitely pick maru.

Unless I'm mistaken MKP will himself get the first pick in a group. Therefore MC cannot pick him (or Parting or Genius).

Only top 4 will get the nomination rights. Parting MC and genius are top 3, the no four spot is a tie between mvp, mkp and oz, if they use last year's ranking as a tiebreaker, then mvp is gonna get the nomination right.

Is there a reason why MKP will get a first pick? I mean IIRC it's top 4 GSL 2012 points ranking and Genius, PartinG and MC take the top 3, however the fourth is divided by the remaining last season's Ro16 (MKP,Mvp,Oz and SuperNoVa)

Hmm. I was just looking at rankings on Liquipedia without consideration for ties. Then I'm not really sure. My comments were made assuming MKP was not a potential pick.
However on the LP article of this code S Genius, MC and MKP have been given their own ro16 groups. I have no idea why they have done this, and why parting hasn't been given the last group yet. But LP usually has a better grasp of the rules than me, so maybe they know something.

Indeed, they've been crushing face this last week, they could pretty much all go through on their own terms in different groups.

There is no way that will happen lol. MKP is probably still scared shitless of MVP. When MVP hits his stride again, mkp will fall before him again. TvT isn't so much of a micro battle like the other MUs, it's about strategy and MVP is a tactical genius.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you. NaNiwa is not the safe choice for advancing into the Ro8. Those two have met three times in the past and have an overall map score of 4-4, NaNiwa has been winning the series the past two times. Also, it only really seems to be HuK that gives NaNiwa a huge problem in PvP.
