Team SlayerS, whose members include 'BoxeR' and MMA, revealed today that they would be holding a public draft. Their team draft will be the second following the one that was held in December 2010. The drafted player will be able enter SlayerS as an official member, and will also receive a 24 inch LED monitor as a prize. People may request to participate starting the 12th if they are above 700 points in Masters League. The full details are as follows:

Tournament Details: Online tournament, Best out of 3, Daybreak, Bel'Shir Beach, Cloud Kingdom, in that order. The players who make it to the RO8 will participate in an offline tournament. Tournament Date: 1st Round: 18th (Sunday), begins at 2:00 PM KST. Must check in at least 30 minutes before. 2nd Round: 25th (Sunday), 2:00 PM KST. RO8 Offline Tournament.
* The coaching staff will be observing the offline tournament to determine the player who gets drafted.
This seems strange to me, as SlayerS already has one of the deepest rosters around. However, I'm really excited at the prospect of seeing one of the great players lurking out there to get a spot on the SlayerS team.
I wish they would make a show out of it, would generate a lot of hype for the new player, but oh well.

I doubt they are specifically looking for any foreigner, and I doubt they'd want to invest the money to fly one over just for "maybe" inviting him to the team. Eitherway, if you are good enough to get that far in this tournament you are probably already on a foreign team with decent sponsorship.

Yeah if they wanted to get more foreigners on the team a qualifier wouldn't be the best bet lol.
Really really interesting, but it seems a bit of a scary way to get a new player. Anything can happen in a tournament, and they might not be guaranteed to get the best player for one, or the best player FOR THE TEAM for two.

I think this answers the most, you need to be good enough to qualifiy to the online tourney, when you are there, even if you end up losing in the final or semifinal due to something very silly, but your play otherwise has been spectacular, it seems from the above qoute that you would be recruited.
I wonder if MajOr will enter or if he alresdy found a new team. Im wondering the same with LS, desRow and Cytoplasm (if he wanted to move to a korean team)

i think he meant more along the lines of major teams (though esahara is good they're nowhere near mouz/liquid/eg/empire/millennium/col/etc)

It's probably to discover domestic talent that has gone unnoticed as of yet. I doubt foreigners that aren't already on teams would make it far, or be willing to pay themselves to get there.
And as it says, they will be picking from the RO8 based on how they play, probably asking them questions and finding out about them as a person. Doesn't say anything about winner joins the team.

I know Fnatic did when they were first starting out, and compLexity is somewhat doing it with their Academy program. I believe one player has been "drafted" from it. (goswser, I believe)

That's good. But I'm not talking just about fame. I'm talking about opportunities to compete and win. First comes skills, then comes winning and competing, and then the fame naturally follows. Without opportunity one cannot utilize ones' skill, and that is a huge shame.
Basically I am saying that it would be hard to gain these opportunities when you are on such a large, talented roster, and have to compete with guys like MMA for these limited opportunities. Living in the Slayers house would result in huge increases in skill, but if you don't compete in tournaments, it's wasted talent.
This is awesome, I wish they would stream at least the ro8. Having that streamed could help the other seven get on a team, even if SlayerS doesn't want them.

Technically stream cheating isn't even cheating. You aren't doing anything illegal and if your opponent chooses to show his game in public without any delay, it's his problem. But yeah obviously it's "frowned upon".

Well I ask because people like CombatEx and Deezer always get accused of stream sniping, but whenever I see his YouTube videos of him streaming, it's always him stream cheating.
Most people either don't know or don't care, so being accused of either is generally taken as being accused of stream cheating.
Luckily, both are pretty frowned upon, because so many who do one are also likely to do the other.

LastShadow has multiple id's in high masters on the Korean server. Believe me, he is extremely good, and has done a lot to try and make up for his past mistakes. We should forgive people. TL gave him a second chance and he has used it do to a ton of cool things for the community.

That's right, he cheated 4.5 years ago. He paid the price back then and he has moved on to a new game where he played at a high level without any sorts of abuse for some time before vanishing. Now he is in Korea working very hard to improve his game. He already apologized for what he did, obviously he can't take it back. He was already punished and now that punishment has ended. You need to move on after a while, especially when he is now a different person.

As far as I understand it, it wont be the player that actually wins the tournament, but rather who the referees decide should get it based on their performance? I like that approach a lot! Would be cool if a foreigner wins this. But I think the chances are small. Pretty sure there are quite a few unknown koreans who can easily play on a code S level, but ofcause I have no idea. This is just the impression I have.

I don't believe on Ls, Desrow or Juan if it comes to it I'd even give the edge to Ls but none of them have a good history of manners around the scene. So yes, this is probably unecessary drama and more players acting like a child and leading themselves nowhere.

Well I'm quite excited to see if any foreigner can join SlayerS, or any other up and coming players we don't know about yet. I'm sure they wouldn't require a ladder ranking that was prohibitively high, since as you go higher, the more likely someone is already on a pro team--not that that stopped them from acquiring Coca or Puzzle, for example.
All this drama about lastshadow is ridiculous to be honest. I am not a fan of the guy by any means, but it is completely unecessary and unneeded. All the hate people have for lastshadow is stupid stuff from his broodwar days. Until Lastshadow does something recent that is actually controversial, let him be. This kind of personal attack is equivalent to attacking TT1 for maphacking in broodwar or critiscising Idra's playstyle for cancelling his command centre against Nony in TSL2.
Anway, regarding the actual topic of this thread. It would be super awesome if Juan tried out for this slayers thing. I think it is a great opportunity for foreigners, and the clever ones that have already bought a korean account are a major step ahead. GG.

the more i think about it, the more i think this thing might not be as cool as it sounds. i mean, it sounds awesome, so not as cool as that is still really cool, but if i remember correctly, slayers has a pretty intense system of deciding who plays and stays. dont they do evaluations like every month and cut you if you're not up to par?

Thorzain meshed really well with the team. I strongly disagree with your opinion.
Slayers Thorzain would be cool, but that would really weaken Mouz as a team, especially since he is their only 100% Terran and Mouz already has a small roster. Either way, I remember Thorzain once saying that he preferred to live in Europe over Korea, so he probably won't be participating anyway.
Wow, such a cool opportunity from SlayerS. I really hope the drafted player truly earns the spot deservingly and not by all-ining their way through the tournament. I just fear for the format since this is a pretty rare way to recruit a team member. I'm excited, I hope it can somehow be broadcasted.

If I was good enough I would take out money from my savings to fly to Korea for offline finals. I think if you can get that far even if you lose some team would notice you and pick you up. So I would love to see a foreigner win this, but I can wish in one hand and shit in the other...

Yes, Alicia was part of the draft. He wasnt a good player back then they said but BoxeR saw the potential in him so they still picked him up. That's the story, at least, that they were telling when Alicia kind of came out of nowhere and went to Code S and did decently in GSTL. Then he kind of fell off

The draft system has worked well for Slayers in the past. If I remember correctly, Boxer was able to pick up Ganzi and a few other unknowns and train them to greatness.

GanZi was actually a pro BW player, although he may have entered the draft. I'm pretty sure DRG and Genius entered the draft last time and Genius was already the Blizzcon champion at that point.
This Draft is much needed, with Ganzi and Taeja leaving I believe it left a weak spot in the SlayerS roster. I was watching the GSTL last night where SlayerS lost 2-4. The casters were commenting about the lack of Ganzi and how if he was still there it could potentially have changed the results. I'm hoping for LastShadow. He's a really awesome guy now that he's cut back on his BM.
I think it was Ganzi, DRG, Genius, Ryung, Frozen, and Lots. Alicia did bad when he tried to join but Boxer let him in because Alicia was doing all kinds of crazy cheeses and winning against him on ladder.

western teams working together with korean teams so that their players are able to live in team houses is still the best thing. honestly koreans are pretty poor, they are living in the houses without a salary while europeans, who are even worse than those koreans, are sitting next to them earning like $1000 a month
If thorzain joins, slayers will probably squeeze his talents dry by converting him into a playing coach instead lol. He's really talented in the strategic aspect of the game.

ThorZaiN would walk into SlayerS if he wanted to, i'm pretty sure. They all love him, he wouldn't need to go through a draft. He's so smart and his perfectly prepared builds are a hit with MMA, BoxeR etc.
But he prefers to live in Europe so that's a non issue.
Looks like Arthur won the series with some kind of strong blink stalker push. Even if they was a runby in the main that killed a lot of probes, KDY couldn't hold the attack, it was way too many stalkers.

Very interesting game in what i think is the semi final.
Another Zerg versus Protoss, on daybreak for the first match. In the early game, the protoss player blocked the zerg main with a pylon, and the zerg player cleverly responded by hatching protosses natural, and cancelling it. That put the protoss way behind in my opinion. He tried to do a 5 gate push in order to punish the zerg for taking a fast third, but some very good defense from our swarm player (army splitting, cleverly using lings) destroyed the protoss force. After that, an attack with an small force of roaches and lings did much damage to the protoss army who was never really able to mass units.
In that point of the game, the zerg did a flock of mutalisk, and the fleet did some heavy damages in the protoss economy. Seems like the son of aiur is in a tough spot, with supply being 114 vs 179.
Edit : thanks from some really nice TL contributor, I think I can affirm that was the first match of the SlayersDark vs NSPElite series.
Link runby covered by muta attack in the main prevent the dark shrine to complete. Last protoss forces are falling, and the zerg player takes it, outplaying his oponent by a lot here. Looks like the map for the next round is gonna be bel'shir beach, winter edition.
god such newbies made it to the finals, i don't know why Juan didn't play, I couldn't play, and Soulman(best player in the tournament by far) was eliminated thanks to lag spikes. so sick

Fuck is soulman still teamless? He's stupid good, how he hasn't been picked up by anyone yet is beyond me.
I remember when he used to mess around on the SEA server and just floor everyone without even trying haha

Beyond me too. He's the best teamless protoss in the world right now.
Belshir, winter edition, protoss [NSPElite] at the top, zerg [SlayersDark] at bottom.
Protoss is going for a forge fast expand, while pylon blocking the zerg natural. Dark takes a fast third, but the drone is scouted by a scouting probe of Elite. At 5:20, still no gaz for the Cerebrate while the son of Aiur took the two in the main. The worker count is fairly even at this point. Nothing special is happening, everything seems to be calm before the storm.

14 stalkers are attacking the third. Clutch defense from dark allows him to hold for now, while he tries a kind of surrond. Look like it's gonna be tough, but Dark still may hold it.
As the situation get more and more critical, all the drones of the third were evacuated and the hatchery is about to fall. Protoss is mining from 4 gaz and stopped the probe production, Dark survives and get the infestation pit. Elite gets the robotic and templar archive up while retraiting to his natural.
The secret plans of dark doesn't seem to include rebuilding a third. I'm affraid to say that I think the Cerebrate is going all-in at this point, adding a lot of infestors and some dangerous hydralisks. Elites fortify his defenses while he gets a third.
Finally, Dark rebuild his third. At this time, a blink stalker suicide squad attacks the main. However, due to what it seems is an error of protoss navigation instruments, some stalkers are trapped in the main and destroyed by the roaches.
But does all this really matters ? At the time where I'm speaking, the army of Elite just attacked and destroyed the zerg force with some decent forcefield. As the Zerg troups were wipped out from the planet, the infestation cessed, taking us to a third round between the two layers.
1-1 between Elite and Dark. The game is loading for next map, ESV Cloud Kingdom.
At the top SlayersDark, green Zerg. At the bottom NSPElite, red protoss.
Both player go for fast expansion, and the protoss is unable to probe block the hatchery. Elite his precisely going for FFE. And then the stream dies.
It's back now ! Nothing much has changed. Fast third hatchery for the swarm, probes and dronees. Elite seems to be taking his 4 gaz adding a robo to his single gateway, probably wanting to scout what was prepared for him in the infested land. However, Dark with his special agents of overlord sees it and is aware of the protosses plans.
The protoss, with 6 sentries, is confident enough to build a third. He has approximately 6 gateways and he is looking strong, as he add the twillight council. The worker count is in Dark's favor, but not by a ton. By the way, I'm really sad to see that darks adds hydralisks... We'll see how it goes.
The zerg army composed of 15 hydralisks and 16 roaches is marching to Elite's third. A small group of roaches and lings is waiting at the natural. The attack launches on two sides, the natural is invaded by zerglings and the main army of Dark rampages the 3rd.
The zergling runby destroyed a lot of probes, and this smart 2 pronged timing attack from the Cerebrate really payed off. Even with the first colossus out, he is still unable to repell the zerg squadrons that goes further and further in his natural.
Finally, as the last colossus fall, Dark destroys Elite and takes the series 2-1.
Now it's time for the final Gentlemen. On daybreak, with Arthur the teal protoss at the top. His oponent, Dark, his the green zerg play at the bottom.
Arthur delays the implantation of further infestation on the orbital platform of daybreak by body blocking for a moment and then throwing down a pylon. Himself goes for the seen over and over again forge fast expand.
In the background, MMA seems to practice <3.
Back to the game now ! Unsurprisingly, Dark takes a fast third. I have a feeling that somehow he is gonna take it. The only interresting thing that happens is a zealot vs 4 zerglings at the xel naga tower, with good micro from both sides... However 2 zergling dies still, but the tower is back under the control of the Cerebrate.
Arthur teleports a robotic to it's natural. He is begining to add gates, to have 3 gates robo at this time, upgrading +1. Dark morphs a roach warren, an additional hatchery in his main, and begins Zergling speed. Arthur now adds the twilight council, the Lair is morhping. Both ennemies are preparing for battle.
First signs of battle approches as a warp prism filled with zealots and sentries unloads his garrison on the highground at the top of Dark's third. The protoss engines warps additional rounds of zealots... and a strong attack comes to the third which is getting low.
However, the zerg swarm, sending the danger, defended well with roaches and hydralisk. Even if the hatchery is low, it did not fall. The cerebrates morphs a spire, feeling the need for air control. Arthur, without being able to do much with his harassement tactics, prepares to take a third.
The tale could tell the game is even at this point, but the supply could not.
110 to 178 supply, for the swarm. No forth still for Dark still. He is massing corrupters at this point..
The swarm launches all his forces to the third, with a squadron of roach designated to attack the natural at the same time. Even though the nexus falls, the attack was relatively unsuccessful as the zerg army died.
Now, Arthur is out for some blood and revenge. Fortunately, Dark could remax. Both armies do a little bit of "Gentleman, please shoot first" in the middle of the map. Finally the engagement occurs : however, the blink micro and the good forcefield make the protoss win the first battle rather easily. Now he is getting closer and closer to the zerg natural and in response, willing to obey the Swar instinct of survival, Dark sends his drones whose agaisnt the elite stalker warriors of Arthur are unable to do much.
Pressing the attack, Arthur bring all his probes with him to the all in. A combination of workers and troops firhts in the middle reveals a bloody battlefield. Finaly, the protoss forces kills the last zerg defenders, and the Cerebrates is defeated for the first game of the series.
The calm frozen beaches of Bel'Shir are about to be devasted by the fury of two ancestral ennemis fighting eachother.
At the top, leading his holy warriors, Arthur is decided not to abandon the beaches of his beloved planet. At the bottom, the zerg invasion began : the creep begins to cover the south frozen sand.
Arthur wen for a gateway fast expand. He also scouted the one roach play of dark, his oponent. This day would be a day decided by a quick battle. The roaches engages the protoss positions, unpowering the two gates at the natural.
Arthur is immediatly defeated as 7 roaches run into the natural and as he is not able to teleport fighting units any more.
Arthur maybe abandonned BelShir to the swarm too quickly. But he is not gonna let go his ancestral world of Clound Kingdom, the birthworld of the flying mega shark.
Arthur spawns at the bottom.
Dark wished to continue the invasion of the protosses worlds.
The zerg player spawns at the top.
Forge fast expand for the protoss player. He blocks the zerg natural with a pylon. Dark goes for a quick third, and send his zergling to destroy the rocks on both natural's ramps. 2 gas geysers for the protoss player as he throw down a stargate, adding a third geyser.
A vooid ray is in production, but Dark overloards sees it and he adds a queen. The protoss teleports a twillight council. The zerg morph some crawlers in respond, and the aerial arsenal of the protoss is unable to do match : a phoenix pilot is even killed as his ship is pierced by queen spikes and explodes.
Arthur researchs blink and +1. The zerg adds a spire.
The third of the son of aiur goes up, and Dark is just massing troops at this point.
Dark decides that his servants did him some harm for some questionable reason and decides that they deserved to be executed. He launches a suicide attack of ~10 roaches ~5 hydras to the protoss third, and his troops are exterminated. Arthur counter attacks, but as soon as he moves out so many lings comes and focuses Arthur's third nexus which dies.
Good move by Dark, but Arthur is angry now. He is coming to seal the deal.
Spine crawlers, mutaliks, useless banelings and drones : everything comes to help the defense of the third. The stalker count doesn't seem to get lower and finally, the defending zerg army is crushed.
Arthur gets the revenge he wanted and takes the series 2-1 as he kills the last standing forces of Dark. For Aiur !
So Arthur won the Slayers tournament. I know he's not automatically on the team, but I'm not so sure about him. He went two base blink every game. Even when he went for a 3rd he just sacked it and counter attacked with blink stalkers.
Would have been nice to see some more variety out of him, especially since the position of "Slayers two base toss who invariably breaks my heart" is already being filled by Alicia.

Arther won? Pretty cheesy player, from what I have seen of him, but honestly I did not see much. Still, his blink play does suggest at least decent micro, so maybe he does have potential.
I think there is many other players that deserve this oppurtunity better, I just saw Arthur play and he did were failed All-In's and not so good decision marking :\
I would prefer that GuineaPig or Lyn join the team
