EPTJuan Carlos "MajOr" Tena Lopez, arguably Mexico's best and most recognized StarCraft 2 player, has left CheckSix Gaming after a 4-month stint with the North American-based organization. Lopez, who had changed his handle from MajOr to "WinDy" upon his signing with x6, is making the switch after potentially receiving an offer from a yet undisclosed team.
CheckSix management told ESFI that Lopez had been contracted for a specific period of time, but that they always try to do things in the best interests of their players. It seems this was one of those cases, as CheckSix confirmed that his contract was not bought out by MajOr's new team.
"He got an offer that was a lot more convenient and helpful to him as a player," said x6 Business Development Director Curt Carter. "What we offered him was more than fair to him as a player. We just wanted to allow him the opportunity to do something that better suited his needs."
"Thanks to CheckSix for all support over past few months," said Lopez in his official statement. "It was great, and I appreciate them allowing me this better opportunity. Hopefully, people continue to support me no matter where I am."
According to Curt Carter, CheckSix won't be immediately looking to fill his spot on the team. "Yes, some 'star power' will now be missing; however, we are extremely confident in our current roster of players, despite lacking some of that star power."
