I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Imagine one day suddenly you have to pay to lay in your bed, that's what I meant.

I missed this post, and it really bothers me.
Information should be free. Entertainment is NOT information. The fact that you're treated the two as the same is, frankly and unfortunately, stupid. Entertainment isn't free. It never has been. There are costs associated with creating and producing it. Those costs need to be recouped.
You can respect that MLG is profitable all you want, but that doesn't make it true. MLG doesn't make money. They're surviving on venture capital, but that doesn't last forever. They need to find ways to make money, and ad revenue doesn't do it, sad to say. They, and everyone involved in eSports, need to find new and more effective ways to monetize their content in order to continue to produce it.
Content is always monetized, even things that you think you're getting for free. You have to pay for cable because cable has to buy content from the producers. Broadcast TV works in a similar way; the affiliates have to buy content from the networks. That's a middleman that doesn't exist in eSports. MLG, just like any creative, is selling a product. You have the choice to buy it or not. You're chosing not to, and that's fine. But the whole holier-than-thou information-should-be-free stuff is just a front for a misguided sense of entitlement.

Unless you stole your bed from the manufacturer, then someone had to pay for you to lie in it.

Anyways I don't want this to turn into a heated debate. I still stand by my point that $20 for everyone to watch at home is not how this event should be ran. And let's just leave it at that.

I'm fine with paying for it once, but having to pay for it every night and that's the only way for it to be, hell no.

I totally agree with this post btw.

Sick triple post. Especially after saying you'll leave it at the first one =/
Edit: I don't even disagree that $20 seems like a lot in relation to the competition in the industry. I just think if you don't want to pay for it you shouldn't, that's the best you can do. No need to complain about it like it has some major negative impact on your life.

It's almost like you pay MLG once and then you use their product!
Wait, no, it's exactly like that. Because that's how it works.

i can still watch every of the 4 streams for free on the mlg page. wtf is this shit. my friend can't.
THAT must be a kick in the nuts for everyone who has paid. sorry guys.
edit: been watching for over 4 hours now

Not really. I'm glad I paid for a product that I wanted to watch. And I'm glad that it's turned out to be worth the money.

Wonder how much money/viewership MLG has lost on this already?
|
This seems like poor business planning on behalf of MLG.
Their viewer base is not large enough to cover the costs they've incurred, especially considering the low relative wealth of the 16-24 age group as is.
I have the money to pay for this, but it the value just isn't there. I can watch tournaments for free, or get a gsl pass for months of content, I don't want 20 hours of stream when I'll end up watching 2-3.

MLG, you're amazing, and I love your product. Please protect your profits and your rights by proceeding legally against people who are restreaming, as much as it is possible to do so. This is one example where I would fully support seeing massive fines handed out to people.

Might be a hard case for MLG to win. They did wave their copyright in regard to displaying their protected product in public.

This event is 100% worth my money. The stream viewing experience is actually amazing...switching between streams and quad stream etc is all very fluid. And having Tastosis is just crucial. This is SO MUCH BETTER than just watching a stream embedded on TL.

I was on the fence mainly because I didn't think Gold members got any discount on price, but after seeing we got $5 off I jumped in and ordered. There were a few hiccups at first with the subscribe pop ups, but I just had to completely log out of justin.tv and close all my browsers. After logging back in, my quad view has now been running flawless for 3+ hours, and this is on a 6 year old laptop with a stock graphics card. I figured for sure all this streaming would blow up my comp, but it's still running great.
Completely worth the money.
