Energy drink maker Red Bull continues to invest in eSports. The company has added Choi Ji Sung, better known to the pro gaming world as “Bomber”. Sung is the sixth pro gamer that Red Bull is backing in the growing eSports category. He’s also the first Korean gamer that will wear the Red Bull merchandise while playing StarCraft II in global competitions.
Red Bull signed Sung to a contract this month, although the length of the contract has not been disclosed. Sung will work closely with both the Red Bull USA and South Korea teams. He recently attended the Red Bull LAN along with top pro gamers from around the world at the US Red Bull headquarters in Los Angeles in preparation for Major League Gaming’s Orlando Pro Circuit Tour Stop.

Walshy and Bomber = love Redbull
This has been announced by Bomber himself when he address his fans after being knocked out of Code S last week. Great news nevertheless. GL to Bomber and Reed Bull.
Wait does this mean he is leaving startale?
Edit. Oh so hes just being personally sponsored by them. Sounds great! Best luck to Bomber in the future.

No, Red Bull is just a sponsor of his. He's still on ST.
So is he done with Startale?
Redbull is going to crush sc2! 1st bomber and then?
On November 14 2011 08:51 Lewan72 wrote: Wait does this mean he is leaving startale?
I don't think so. It's most likely a personal sponsorship by Redbull.

This is really cool for Bomber. Congrats to him!
Wow, private sponsorships! Hopefully we'll see more Bomber at NA events!
This is sort of like Boxer's deal with Razer where they sponsor him directly.
Awesome. Hope he can join Day9 next time they go sky diving :D
Thanks for the hint Sarang, I've found the post from Bomber on TL (Link), it's a personal sponsorship:
Hi my fans I,m very sad about recent games I know that you are worried about my bad conditon It was caused by tight travel schedule(MLG Raleigh,Redbull Lan party,MLG Orlando,Sweden BenQ event) I don,t have time to practice GSL Code S,and always in bad condition i know that i have to practice in korea instead travel but MLG Orlando.. i promised to MLG fans that i would go MLG Orlaando so i have to go and Redbull Lan party..i went there to contract with redbull I’m just telling for the first time this,Red Bull is my sponsor(not team, just about me) and BenQ event..i just want to practice at ST house but i don,t have option so i had just 1 day to practice GSL Code S always and i have jet lag too,it made me terrible conditon so I`ll not participate any tournament untill December 31 expect MLG providence I think it`ll be my last tournament in this year I am pretty sure that i`ll comeback soon if i have little time to practice I'm sorry to have troubled you I'm not gonna let you down any more^^ See you at MLG!! bye
ps: don,t worry about nervous problem, i don,t have nervous problem at all
For everybody who's asking: No, Bomber did not leave Startale.
Red Bull gives Bomber WINGS!
Congrats, seems like a cool company.

so amazing,good luck bomber.
Baller drink for a baller Terran
They are saying redbull gaming as if they have a pre-existing team. Is he the only gamer sponsored by them at this point or are there others?
great signing.
red bull was like, im looking for a top class terran player
bombers like 'look no further, you found me'
So I'm guessing he's still on Startale, looks cool.
Congrats, nice to see redbull becoming more and more involved!
Wow, a personal sponsorship for bomber, nice one hope to see him at so many more events now!
Congrats to Bomber, however I'm a little disappointed that they chose him over Mvp.
Wow redbull picking up players. This is becoming a serious esport. Next commercials is going to be with a thor drinking readbull vs mass zerglings. The thors just going to drink some red bull, grow some wings, and melt the lings.
Gratz to bomber, I hope he pulls out of this exhaustion induced slump
Yay a personal sponsor for such a beast player

That's pretty cool, hopefully Redbull makes a lot of money from this and ends up sponsoring and helping out a team some day or more players. Great for e-sports!

There are others mainly the MLG Halo team "Status Quo", Which consists of 4 players, and Redbull's first sponsored pro gamer "Walshy". Bomber would be the 6th player Redbull has contracted.
Awesome, hope he keeps playing well now.
time to go buy a pack of redbull
I hate Red Bull, but I guess if I ever feel the need to jack up my body with a bunch of unhealthy chemicals for an all-nighter and coffee's not easily at hand, I'll have to go for it.
Redbull seriously is the most manly of all companies. They buy whatever they want and just DO it.
Formula 1? pfft.
P38 lightning? Got one.
World record freefall jump? done it.
gaming? yep.

I like how you assume that the caffiene in coffee is somehow safer than a red bull.
Have fun with that. The reason I like red bull is because it doesn't have a pound of sugar in it. But I still prefer my coffee as well, usually. Though if I need an energy drink and VISO isn't available (it's caffiene, juice, cane sugar, and a multivitamin) I go for redbull's tangy, weird flavor.
I hope they start sponsoring Poongko from the fighting game scene, dude takes off his belt, drinks red bull, crushes the can, then growls at the crowd before his biggest matches and it's hilarious.
Nestle should sponsor NesTea lol!
Love the enthusiasm from Red Bull. I know my go to energy drink now.
Whihc leads me to wonder whether red bull is good or bad for sc skills

They have the same amount of caffeine from what I can recall, and the effects are the same, but the coffee that I usually buy is far cheaper than a can of RB at the student mart, and it's warm, which is pretty good for the winter.
Awesome to hear, Bomber is my favorite terran!
Now everyone can stop asking me why he was wearing redbull sweat bands
So is this like the sony ericsson -tlo, and stride - tyler thing? Nice to see players getting sponsors. I thought he left st when I first read this.
Very nice for Bomber. This explains why he randomly went to Sweden earlier this month. I hope Bomber is getting lots of $$$ from this deal because for a player of his caliber Bomber hasn't really won that much prize money (yet).
Bomber deserves it he is the best of the best even if he has not won that many tournaments. He practices 12-14 hours a day? That is pretty insane considering I work 8 a day and I am burned out by then. How do you not get carpel tunnel from that many hours of playing such an APM heavy game? That is dedication right there and why the koreans are better.
Just saw this article browsing the forbes site, beat me to this post!
This is great news!
Glad you all are excited! We're pumped to have Bomber in the family!
Edit: I work for Red Bull.
Sam

Curious but how popular is red bull and energy drinks in korea? I know red bull has strong roots in south east asia and I know Bacchus sponsors alot of gaming stuff but I never really see Koreans consume energy drinks as publicly as we do in australia.
Very interested to see what else red bull does!
This is awesome! Bomber joins the reigns of Redbull and Dave Walsh!
Great news, i hope it turns out well for both of them.

red bull is still not officially imported into korea, funnily enough.
bacchus and vita-500 are the most consumed drinks, and they are pretty publicly thrown about (they are often gifted in box sets of 12 etc)
i want to be sponsored by redbull
Nice picture with F1 car :o
That's a pretty nice pickup there by Red Bull Gratz guys

That's all reasonable. I was just making fun of you for implying that one had "chemicals" when they both do.
And there's sugar-free redbull! But if you really want to do an all-nighter, take it from us hardcore kids and do a drop of tabasco in your eye. Keeps you up for hours!

Good to see that something like this is starting to develop - esports sponsorship should really start to focus more on individuals...even though the players need the team environment to practice, esports is much more a sport like tennis where the individual matters than, say, football, where the team wins or loses.
Quite misleading title though, first I thought that Red Bull has started their own team.
It's interesting to see bigger and bigger companies seeing the bright future that e-sports and SC2 has in general, and already are starting to invest to ensure their share of it.

Yeah, something similar to Tyler and Stride gum I imagine.
Redbull picking up some good players for private sponsoring. I like it.
Its starting to feel pretty odd with people getting personal sponsors and still being on a team with a lot of other guys. I guess this is proof that marketing of the the player in question (either by themselves sticking out, commentators hyping them or getting an invite to a major foreign tournament). Maybe we'll get more korean "personalitys" like MC if this catches on with the players there instead of the bland humble stereotype.
Grats to Bomber! Interesting to see how far Red Bull will go with all the sponsoring!

I think you could best compare it with (American) Football (yes, some of us watch this too here in Europe ). This is even a "real" team sport and still, who really knows the names of offensive guards/tackles? Compared to quarter backs, running backs, wide receivers?
SC2 is a true 1v1 sport, so even if every player relies heavily on practice with his teammates, I think it's inevitable that a couple of "stars" develop who rely on many people supporting them "in the back".
So that's who Mark Webber's replacement is next season
why are they calling him sung ?
his first name is jisung his family name is choi
Red Bull is just sponsoring, they do the same for 4-5 halo players, and trust me when I say RB is a great sponsor, they have been sponsoring halo pro walshy since like 06 and they still continue to support him.
Gratz to Bomber for getting such an amazing sponsor, thanks to redbull for investing furthermore into esports.
thats great. redbull is supporting so many teams and athlets in real sports and continues to do so in eSport. love it.
These guys are really showing some stellar support across a wide variety of sports. Gz to Bomber and compliments to Red Bull for supporting esports!
So happy Bomber is sponsored by Red Bull :D guy is so good and just to see Red Bull sponsoring more and more players, and becoming more involved with e-sports is really awesome. Hoping to see Bomber feel better soon, I know his traveling has been affecting him so hoping he gets better soon.
This is awesome!
