War is coming… In all its glory And in all its horror We are proud to present the return of the Highschool StarLeague! Welcome to the next generation of eSportsMake sure that after your team has registered on http://www.hsstarleague.com/ and has at least 5 players to send an email to hsteamleague@gmail.com stating that you will abide by the HSL rules and participate and commit to the season!! THANKS <3Foreword+ Show Spoiler +You may have known us as the HSSTL, or the High School Starcraft Team League from a time long ago, where communication was handled through an e-mail list consisting only of each Team Coordinator; where registration was handled manually via posting in a thread; where reporting matches was handled through several Challonge! round-robin brackets, one for each region; where you couldn’t even attach all the replays from your match without hitting the upload attachment limit of three… Together, we’ve all gone through (and hopefully learned from!) many challenges. We began an ambitious experiment with a whopping 72 team count -- that’s over 360 players! Throughout the season, hopefully each one of you has grown -- not only as players, casters, or coordinators, but as leaders. We are extremely proud of the effort all of you put in and thank you for coming together for an awesome Season 0 -- scraping together a team of five players in only two weeks is no easy task, let alone leading them through a gruelling Pool-and-Playoffs format, which, due to the relatively short season, was unforgivable.
Into the Void+ Show Spoiler +I’m sure you all will be relieved to hear that this year, we won’t need those makeshift Challonge! brackets, West Coast players won’t need to miss dinner, and HSSTL is now possible to pronounce plainly and simply, HSL. We have been working very hard since that fateful day in July when CCA/TP played an epic Best of 9 to take out Lynbrook Highschool in our first ever finals, which attracted a peak of 351 viewers. So we would like to welcome and invite you to the NEW HSL. After many talks with the CSL (Collegiate Starleague), we’ve joined forces in an attempt to take eSports to the next level. From this season on, CSL and HSL will be working closely together to bring passionate students an opportunity to compete with thousands, if not tens -- no, if not hundreds of thousands to prove their abilities, skills, and talents. Want to be a progamer? Looking for some games to practice casting to try to work your way up to the big dogs? Or maybe you just want to prove to the world you have what it takes to lead a team to success -- whatever the reason, we want you to take advantage of this opportunity to have fun, or for some of you, to prepare for the next level -- that of the Collegiate StarLegaue -- and beyond, for those of you who will seek professional SC2 careers.
Welcome to Season ONE+ Show Spoiler +Since Season 0, many things have changed and improved. To create a more unified community, we will be using the same [amazing] map pool as CSL’s + Show Spoiler +1v1 Antiga Shipyards MLG iCCup Testbug MLG Dualsights MLG Metalopolis MLG Xel’naga caverns MLG Shakuras Plateau Daybreak MLG The Shattered Temple
2v2 Ruins of Tarsonis Khaydarin Depths Scorched Haven
. Also, (and thanks for all your concern and excellent feedback), we will now be using the same format as CSL, meaning we will say goodbye to the old Winners’ League format (the same used in the GSTL, also dubbed the “All-Kill Format”). So, even though we bid farewell to the GSTL map pool and format, we will be using a more diverse map pool that includes Blizzard, GSL, and iCCup maps and now players will be assigned their own set for each match, without knowing their opponents until after the rosters from each team for that match is submitted. Example + Show Spoiler + This means that the winner does not keep playing until he loses so one man can no longer carry a team, effectively shifting the importance of having just one outstanding player to that of having an entire team working together, practicing, studying their opponents, and preparing strategies. How to Play+ Show Spoiler +Please have your coordinator send an email to HSteamleague@gmail.com requesting the official rules email (all of which will be posted in here just not in a personal format), and then reply with the requested information. This will confirm that you intend to participate in Season One and provide us with your info, however, also on our long sought after website you will need to have each member of your team register for your team, and you, the coordinator, must create that team on the website (don’t worry it’s easy). Once you have done that you will be set to play and ready for the season to begin November 26th with registration by email due by November 13th!
Website and More+ Show Spoiler +IT IS HERE! So many of you have been asking almost everyday when it will be and I am sure many others have been anxiously awaiting and checking our facebook posts. So enough of the wait, here it is, I give you... www.HSstarleague.com Other exciting things besides the website are also coming to HSL in the coming days and weeks, make sure you stay tuned for even more events and competitions!
On Signups at your school and looking for a team+ Show Spoiler +We're not too strict about the spread right now, but may change this stance soon or in a future season. Within the city is definitely fine, we might change it from bordering counties to within your county though this season, with people who are in bordering counties having to e-mail us to ask for an exception (most cases it will probably be accepted if there is effort in the e-mail explaining the situation properly, but for people who live in areas where there is a high high high population, we will most definitely not all it xD -- on the other hand someone living in a remote area might be able to join any team from their state.
Also, for all of you saying you don't know any players. Don't be so closed minded! Do you really think that there aren't more players? Have you talked to EVERY SINGLE person and asked them if they play sc2? Obviously not, who would do that? Let me put it this way... if you think no one else plays sc2 at your school, ask yourself this: Has anyone come up to YOU and asked if you play sc2? Probably not. So take the initiative and post fliers and etc. to find some players.
There are millions of copies of SC2 sold after all. Most people who play are young adults or high schoolers. You really can't think you can't find at least a few starcraft players that you can convince to join HSL in a high school population of 1000-1500 can you? Let alone city, then district, then county. Make sure to register your teams on the website! www.hsstarleague.comAlso make sure to email us at Hsteamleague@gmail.com to receive the rules and be accepted!Mile Markers + Show Spoiler + 1 hour: 8 teams 1 day: 35 teams 2 days: 45 teams 3 days: 62 teams 4 days: 71 teams 1 week: 82 current count: 118 teams!!!! Yeah city/county, just we don't want to have a team that has some random #1 euro pro from some HS 2000 miles away from their actual HS. While we understand at the moment most highschools can't support a team by their own population, we aim for people to try 2 spread the game and at least keep teams local. =]

University City High School of San Diego checking in, hopefully there are more San Diego high schools in addition to us, TP, Scripps Ranch and Canyon Crest.
EDIT: I have heard different things from different sources, the website gives the impression that the league is not played with all kill format but more similar to the style of the EG Master's Cup League (as an example), but my school's coordinator says that in a conversation he had with an organizer that the organizer said it will be in all kill format. Can anyone clarify whether it is all kill format or not?
|
Wow, you guys really got this off the ground. you're really putting way more into this than us old HSL guys ever did, hahaha. I'm glad we gave you the name. You deserve it. Hope your tournaments are successful. I don't think I'll be playing since the only other guy at my school that's decent went to LoL :/.

It is the same style as EG masters cup, 2 1v1's, then a 2v2, then an ace match if necessary, but always check the rules page when unsure!

Please use this protocol: First look through your school. Then look through your school DISTRICT. Then look through your vicinity and city. THEN look through county. If you are a rural area, search your neighboring counties and finally, if you truly live in an area with no major cities and just rural landscape, look within your region.

It would be far to much work to do it for every single person in the league because there are hundreds and potentially thousands who will be in it, but we will verify every player on every team before the playoffs so if there is any cheating of consequence such as a non high school player, then they will be kicked out of the league, along with their team.
|
On October 17 2011 12:23 Hayako wrote: How do you verify somebody is actually in that highschool? Sounds like an awesome idea though!
I honestly hope people don't try to lie on their information.. Seriously guys please don't try to cheat. If we do find you, you will be punished. There isn't even a good motive anyways. This is to show off your schools SC talent and no money is involved!!
|
Make sure that after your team has registered on http://www.hsstarleague.com/ and has at least 5 players, the coordinator of your team sends an email to hsteamleague@gmail.com stating that said team will abide by the HSL rules and participate and commit to the season!! THANKS <3

Please make sure you have searched your school and school district completely!! And there is a pasadena highschool team that you can look for after you have thoroughly checked around your area

We have ways to verify but we will not disclose this information for obvious reasons xD.
To everyone: don't cheat, the consequences will NOT be merciful in any way whatsoever. Talking about permanent life bans for everyone on that team (the specific one, not banning the school itself), etc.

Search your school for more players! Trust me, when the season 0 came out i found a lot of players at my school that played that i didn't think existed. If you really can't, 3 doesn't cut it so your team is eligible to join another team or accept players from another team in (inside school district)

I thought I was the only one this time last year, we have 9 players now!!!!

So I know that the rule was technically that I'm supposed to find people in my school first, but there are a decent number of friends I have in real life that are in hs in my city / sc players. I'd kinda rather make a team of real friends from the area rather than school mates I wouldn't even care about. Don't worry, I'm not recruiting the entire city haha :D

That's fine ^0^. We're not too strict about the spread right now, but may change this stance soon or in a future season.

Make fliers to post, they help so much! Had a guy last year, forget his name, knew no one, made fliers, got to like top 8 or something with a bunch of people who emailed him from his school saying they played and he was in a small school! Of course though if you can't find anyone try to get a district school together if you can!

Wow this actually looks quite polished. I like it. Now I suddenly wish I wasn't 26 and out of high school and college. WE need someone to make a CorporateStarLeague or a CityStarLeague!

All of my friends are casual players (i.e., Bronze league, really don't give the time of day to play over something like CoD), aside from a couple who are Gold league. Remember guys having teams local also increases the number of teams, making the tournament bigger and helps spread e-sports! Also, we will be separating divisions by region, so you're giving highly populated areas advantages by letting them have more divisions if you're team decides to take up a large area of your region

PLEASE read the guidelines. No, search your district first. However, i sincerely doubt that you are the ONLY kid at your school who plays StarCraft. Post up fliers and search around. If you truly cannot find any players this week at your school, begin to search your district, and afterwards your city/county. But please try 2 keep teams as local as possible

Maybe with some help we can make a EU division
Also, the idea of city starcraft teams and such is EPIC. I hope I will be able to see the day when eSports grows enough to allow that kind of stuff in the west (and Korea too actually).

69 teams woot!!

in the original HSSTL we were going to add in a ladder system including a team match ranking like what you mention, but such a ladder system would be very... hard to pull off regarding balance and stuff
You can always meet in channel HSL and maybe ask for one xD (we'll probably mention that in our OP/website now so people will know to meet there for fun)

Just another question, will players still be able to join teams throughout the season or is that not allowed?

They should be allowed to :D

Yep we'll definitely be doing that xD If you can quit, you should be able to join. I'm pretty sure that's one of the main reasons why you have to submit line-ups, right Xeris?

Players can join all season long to existing teams, so if you meet someone new at your school you don't have to be like aw sorry next year haha, they can sign up up until the beginning of playoffs, which is very unlikely you'll meet anyone new that close to the end of the year anyways.

Are those requirements extra ones not announced yet? Or are they just to verify saying you will play in the league/abide by rules etc. ?

Thanks for casting, Shaetan. Haven't watched my scrubby 2v2 match yet, but from what I saw from the rest of the Woods Cross vs Cactus Shadows match and a decent amount of El Camino vs Redwood you did a really great job.

Ohh this is so cool, wish this was around when I was in highschool.

Hi, excuse me if this isn't the best thread for the question but it was the closest I could find.
I'm in a Highschool and I am thinking about trying to get some people interested in a competitive gaming club. One problem I have is that my only game really is SC2. I don't know anything much about other competitive games. But if I try to start a club at my school, I think it would probably work best if we offered something other than just an RTS (I'm not sure there would be enough people to make it work).
Does anyone have experience/knowledge about what the best/most "serious" non-SC2 games would be, be they FPS or anything else?
Also, since I'm completely new to this, if anyone can direct me to resources or ideas about how people get sc2 started in a school that would be really useful too.
Thanks for the help!
