I watched the latest episode of Inside the Game yesterday and they were (maybe not completely seriously) suggesting that MLG should let the pro players choose an intro song they play when the player walks down the aisle before a mainstage match.
It would make it feel a little more personal and it would be interesting which songs are chosen and by who. I´m pretty sure boxing has this and I for one wouldn´t mind if this would happen in SC2.
A potential issue would be that MLG would be forced to pay royalties or they might not be allowed to use a song a player has chosen. I don´t know exactly how these things work but I´m sure someone does.
So, what songs would you like to hear for which players?
Idra. Sometimes he seems unstoppable, sometimes he falls apart and sometimes he seems unstoppable but proceeds to quit the game. There is only one song that he should hear before a match.
Bomber. He seems to believe that he is actually better than everyone he plays. 99% of the time I agree with him. A song that would fit in nicely before the manner muling and unit dancing commences is this one:
Huk. Top 3 control, powerful and aggressive play and maybe a hint of cockiness. Also short and sweet. This song would be a good intro for him because it contains all that. (And it´s just a fucking baller intro song)
Yes, MLG would have to play royalties. I don't think think this is feasible.
That said, I wish it wasn't this way. I understand both the need of the recording companies to ensure the profits of themselves and their artists and the needs of audiences and establishment to share music. As it now stands, a large event like MLG that is streaming to large audience is not going to get away with playing popular songs without some payment to ASCAP/BMI.

This is true, but didn't NASL do the whole musical intros thing at the finals? From what I remember, they were pretty recognizable songs.

At work, so the video links are all not showing. Would love to see the name of each song as well. Otherwise idk what you chose. Will view after work.
My shots with a few random pros, sorry if people dislike mainstream NA music (i know some hate it):
Stephano= Look At Me Now, Chris Brown/Lil Wayne/Busta. Why? With the recent drama between col and mil, as well as his recent owning up of the ladder. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread about his last few days on ladder.
Idra= Born This Way, Lady Gaga....Makes me LOL Idra= Bad Company, Bad Company or 5FDP.
Fruitdealer/Tester= The Lazy Song, Bruno Mars. Nuff said
Nestea= Welcome Home, Coheed and Cambria (should be his finals entry song, he can do another for non finals lol)
If i had a list of pro's and could actually remember song names this could be a really fun game.
MLG uses some rock instrumentals in the last couple of events. Are they known? They may not be the best music ever, but kind of liked them as background for starcraft.
I think the best way to do this would be to strike a deal with one major recording company. It limits your selection, but at least you have one, and can hopefully avoid unmanagably high costs in the process (or maybe not, I really have no idea.) But the music labels would also be benefiting from this too... it just gets the music out there. I mean, look at songs that Day9 reccomends on his twitter... they go up like 5k views in a couple of hours...
Pride, Dream and K1 have the most badass entrances. UFC entrances have always been so bland. This SICK DUDE alone trumps any UFC entrance I've seen, and he does it multiple times.
Of course, a lot of the additional costs as well as the effort has to be has to be taken up by the player and/or his sponsors. Not probably doable, but one can only dream.
What the hell kind of misogynist shit is this? Call me a hater if you will, as I've proudly earned the title. I'm also fairly glad I'm not a mod, otherwise I'd be forced to tolerate this sort of nonsense.
Apologies to everyone else in this thread for this distraction.
In any case, my fear about the Original Poster's idea is that this is extremely cost-prohibitive. More-so when you factor in the number of people they would need theme songs for. 24 players in pool play? Most of whom will see the main stage at some point over the weekend? That seems extremely difficult for StarCraft, much less for Halo: Reach or Call of Duty: Black Ops, which are 4-person teams.
Given the length of League of Legends games, however, it might be feasible for that game.

Heh, at the NASL finals they had entrance music and one of the players (might've been Select but I'm not sure) came out to Fedor's walkout song in Pride, I was SC nerding and MMA nerding at the same time.

Even after what Kennigit said I like the idea. Maybe the MLG could look out for musicians/producers who are willing to allow the use of their music. It`s good publicity for them and enrichens the MLG experience for players and fans.

At least the MLG song is better than having to listen to WCG's "Beyond the Game" ad nauseum.
When Protoss players come on the stage, they should play the song
"untitled" by Simple Plan
It's basically an annoying song about being sorry for yourself and talking about how hard you have things, it seems to apply remarkably well to most protoss players right now
OT: I think that it would be cool, but of course it's very expensive. Maybe there are ways to minimize the costs, like having a "team song" where you only have to pay royalties on a few songs (one for EG, one for mouzports, one for Liquid, one for dignitas, one for CoL, etc) instead of each of the 32 players having their own song to pay royalties for, you only have about 5 or 6.
Sort of a necro bump, but considering that NASL Finals had players choose their intro songs, I think MVPs (because MVP is nearly always in the finals of any tournament he enters) should be:
