Given that HotPockets is one of their major sponsors, I'm pretty sure they won't mind. If you get the free silver this time around, not thinking that the silver/gold service is worth buying, you might change your mind for the next event after experiencing it, and purchase a silver/gold package.

That's most cases with lotteries and the mcdonalds monopoly thing too.
Lotteries are typical 50% if you go for straight cash, 100% is paid over years if you go for full. mlg has done this in the past if im not wrong, its just that no one made a thread about the offer so naturally no one knew about it as MLG site says nothing about such offers.

It can be abused though, you can use different email addresses to get multiple codes and then use all those codes on the same MLG account to get however many months free you want.
So someone could use 5 different email accounts and get 5 months free.

This thread and this promotion are making me hungry as hell. I guess the campaign is working, and I'm happy for MLG and Hotpockets. I can't wait to actually buy gold.
After you use the microwave you get 2-3 emails. One of them is exclusively for the MLG Membership code. It can take a few minutes but they should all arrive together. I've tried and given a code to a friend as well as set up a whole new account that I can "loan" to my friends. Some of them do watch some MLG. Personally I got the gold membership. But I would say I'm an avid follower.
Also on the new show MLG FAQ, in episode 1 Sundance touches on the subject of the amount of memberships desired. He says something along the lines of "europeans, I don't care if you set up a fake account, but if you used it and you liked what you see, you enjoy the product, please consider supporting and buying a membership" Which I think is pretty fair. I cannot force my friends to purchase this, but if they get the virtual blizzcon ticket for 30-40 bucks, I can see them get an MLG one once a while.
The promotion has been running for a while now. It's a great move because it helps to spread the product. It's not possible to abuse it, I would say try to service as many people as you can. But only this once, hope they come back themselves because they enjoyed it so much.
Edit: addition, because people have been talking about purchasing foods. It has become a long running tradition that I buy at least one of the sponsored foods per day of MLG. We don't have hotpockets so I changed those with steamed bread but Doritos and DrPepper. I don't eat a lot crips or drink soda often so it makes it more "special" and really fun. Also gonna get a Monster for while I ladder. ( ^__^)/ESPORTS

If you go through with this,, you just looked at Hot Pockets marketing for 10-15 minutes. It's also acting as a free trial for MLG membership. So it is worth the money to MLG for the Hot Pockets money they recieve AND the follow-on business when the trial runs out.

It's a loophole, you're supposed to get codes from boxes of Hot Pockets, but due to US laws they need a way for people to get a code without purchase. Usually you have to mail in to get a free code but the laws may be different for online sweepstakes.

For the people that didn't get codes I had the same problem. Under the box where you enter your code there is a redeem code link. Click that enter your email again and wait another 10mins or whatever for the email to come. This time the email will contain a code.
How long do you have to wait to get an MLG account , i've done everything else in 10 minutes , but after 1 hour still waiting for it to get activated :O

Not only do I start studying game design today and met some AWESOME people in class that I'll probably hang out A LOT with - not only do I just so happen to NOT be going away to be with family over the weekend but can stay at home - and not only did I just get a new 32" TV...
Now I can see MLG in HD on my new TV all weekend with new gaming friends!!!! Today kicks ass. :'D

ok got it! if mlg doesnt send e-mail for activation , just register again with another e-mail (didnt work on gmail,but in hotmail it was sent inmediatly)

I've got it working but whenever I try changing the quality to High or Ultra it says I have to buy premium while the store clearly states that silver should be able to get HQ streams. I'm wondering if this is just for the time being and if it will be changed once MLG really starts or if I have to buy gold to get HQ?

Exactly my problem. My account shows Silver status, and the correct expiration date, yet I still get commercials and no access to the higher qualities.

I wanted to buy MLG membership today but when paying with Paypal it asked for my credit card (which I think is because MLG requires it - I had same problem with NASL) and I use Paypal just so I don't need to use my card online :/ so I hope this will work..

Wait 15-20 minutes it takes a little while for your membership to update fully, the voucher is the last thing to come up.
there is no place where i can enter my code.. once i press ENTER NOW.. it picks a microwave and all it wants is me to enter my info.. no time in between where i could enter a code..
So i got the code and have silver membership now but when i try to set a stream to High quality it asks for a voucher code again and when I put it in, it says incorrect.

You have to enter the info (fake or real) first -- then the code entry line appears.

Is it not there for anyone else? I have the benefit box, but it cuts off immediately then lists the plans.
For those having trouble seeing the voucher code on Firefox with adblock, set adblock to disable ads for that page and refresh, in member benefits box you should now see the code. Thanks to whomever posted that a page back!

Go to your MLG profile page and dig around and grab the voucher there. You'll find it.

The Hotpockets code you get in your email is DIFFERENT from the voucher code you need for HQ/no ads etc. I think that is where most people are confused about.
Use the link and directions from your email to "activate" your free 1-month silver, and then click on the link "MLG League Membership" on the top-right of the website. It will take you to the account management page... and there you will get to edit billing info, upgrade to gold etc. Scroll further down for your voucher for the HQ stream and such.

No, but I just checked net limiter and the MLG stream on ultra (once buffered a bit) streams constantly at around 480KB/s. Which is really high.

For the people who are having the problem of the voucher not showing up, disable your ad-blocker! :p To be able to see your voucher code, you need to have it disabled.

I never received an account activation email from MLG after I created an account for their site. I know it went through cause when I try and make a new account it says username and email are already in use, but when I go to log in it says "The username and password you entered were not recognized, or may not have been activated. To recover your password by e-mail, select "Recover your password" below.". But when I try recovering my password it says "Could not find a user with that email address."
And I cant view any support sites or anything on MLG's website without being logged in so is there a support email anybody knows where i can email them my issue?

I always try to enter the code when ther microwave page p[ops up and it tells me i have the wrong code every time. I am entering the one i got in my email from steps 1-3, i dont understand what's failing.

Yesterday I missed the SC2 MLG Raleigh Day 1. So I would like to see the VoD, unfortunately my Internet can't handle the "Ultra" quality, and there is only Ultra or Low... no "High" quality it seems for all the SC2 VoDs... Is there a solution for this ?

If you open the "live" stream, you can watch a rebroadcast of the entire broadcast from yesterday (until todays stream starts anyway). On this stream, I have all 4 quality options available (low, mid, high, ultra). You have to skip around a bit to find the matches you want though.

In the window where you're supposed to enter the code, there's a 'Already a member? Click here to get your voucher code!'-thingy you need to click on to get the right code.

Bought gold, worth every penny. I'm glad to support events that go out of their way to trailblaze higher levels of production quality.
I paid for the Dallas event and swore I'd never give them another penny but after Columbus (high def was free) and Anaheim (Dallas event credit paid for this in HD) I was completely sold and promptly bought my gold pass.

Just reapplied the code to the account I already have.
I lived off of hot pockets for lunch when I worked at a grocer store during high school, and it's always so much fun to be able to give feedback to e-sports sponsors. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I thought the codes were supposed to only be a one time thing. Using them more that that, imo, is just taking advantage of the system. I would just like to implore the people thinking of "renewing" the free membership, to consider purchasing it instead.
You already had a great event for free, right?. So if you think MLG earned the money with their last performance, now is the time you scratch their back for helping you to begin with. At least thats how I imagined things worked, someone helps you and then you return the favor ^.^

Yes I do, I just don't know enough about next year's event structure to commit to that. This year they were all in the second half so buying Gold now could mean missing the time when they're on.
I also use neither the HQ stream nor VODs. This is purely so when I close/open each stream after every game of every set due to severe bandwidth limitations here it doesn't start up the 30s ad. And I keep reading that there will be more online events (that I don't care about much), so maybe less offline events for the money?
If it was confirmed that Gold would cover at least 4-5 events including Providence I would buy it.

Uh, they get paid money for this. Less than if everyone bought those memberships but a lot more than zero, or I'd be very surprised.
Sundance wants people to use this as a trial to get people to buy full Silver or Gold, but nowhere has he implied MLG is losing money on this.

I think that's some really great feedback and I hope that Sundance is still eyeing the thread! If some of these concerns could be answered maybe memberships could prove more fruitful? at least to a minority, but still, I imagine that every 1,000 members are important at this stage? Either way, I understand a lot of what you say, but, on the point of not using VOD's (or HQ but you're bandwidth limited anyway so that's a mute point;) wouldn't it be good to have the flexibility to enjoy the VOD's considering they would now be without ads so the loading of ads is irrelevant?

Erm, on the last step (the voucher code to get on the MLG website itself), my Voucher code is "UNAVAILABLE", even though my silver membership was confirmed.

It was three months because you could do the facebook-thing 3 times per MLG account. Every time you did it, you got one month free membership. I did this once, got 1 month (checked my account back then). Now I log in, see a membership until end of january.
Just tried it, and it still works ,hmm they even changed it so that you don't need to enter the voucher code anymore if you are loged in at MLG with your acount, which is convenient. Had no problems except had to reload/refresh the MLG site a few times, since it has crashed a few time.

I had to help friends with it, because they refused to follow the instructions, so I literally read the instructions to them.
The instructions are spot on what you need to do. You gotta read them man, not skip around.

I did this a couple of months back and I got more than just 1 month free. It worked for the last two MLGs using the same account without doing it again.

We ( i assume, i know i did ) bought silver membership prior, the comments arent about this free month deal.
Basically, we paid for 3 months of silver, only to discover its a renewing thing, meaning they directly take the money from your bank every 3 months and provide you with membership, it wasnt stated very well and as a result i did not know.
For example: I know full well that my fiances WoW and Rift's memberships take the money from my bank every month. Money i could quite easily use for beer. >.>

I mean MLG is growing but is by no means a large company. As a community we (Starcraft) are normally really good at supporting companies that help eSports (thats what I base a lot of my purchases on, when torn between companies).
I feel that this is just undermining that, and for the sake of $3.33 a month, less than a $1 a week you can't complain about the price... I'm a student and can afford that.
However, each to their own - just something I personally wouldn't do.

If you don't cancell it during the free period they will charge you for the next period. You should be able to cancel and have your membership until the current term ends if you don't want to continue to pay.

You shouldn't owe anything, you pay in advance right? If you log onto MLG's site and it's says you have a subscription to a certain date it's already payed+free period to that date I believe.

Of course not. Maybe I understood the poster wrong whom I was responding to but I was under the impression he'd payed previously and then added a free month. In that case they would have his payment details.

Done, I will give a try this weekend. If I find it worth the 7.50 € it costs, I will support MLG buying silver pass from there in after. As some guy said before "support what you love"
I can confirm that you can use the same e-mail successively and make it work, since I used it during Raleigh, somehow, it still worked during Orlando (could see all the way up to Ultra), and now, using the same e-mail, I was able to get a new code and redeem it for Silver.

Does anybody else get a 404 when they go to the hotpockets promo page on MLG? I've tried it in firefox and ie. I'm pretty frustrated by this.
EDIT: The link is my email had a space at the end of it. If you get a %20 when you copy the link, or click on the link directly, make sure there isn't a space at the end or it won't work.
just using it for this event. next year ill buy a whole year. dont want to buy the year now, cause if MLG expands next year i have to rebuy for the last event again .

There are three codes.
Code A: Came from first e-mail, use it to enter the contest and get whatever prize they offer you. Code B: Comes from the second email 5-10 minutes after you entered your first code. i've got 3 emails, the initial one to open the microwave, the free mlg email and another R to the initial email about the herbie pouch things

What demicore said should work, you click to change the quality, then you go to ultra/high and then go to the link demicore posted , log in go to what he says in his post and there is a code that you enter for the voucher.

you need to activate the code with the Link hotpockets sent you, then copy+paste another code that MLG gives you in your profile! doesnt work when you put in the code you got from the email into the MLGplayer
