Hi guys, its Laxx here (the creator of the video, proof here).
Just wanted to say thank you all so much for your awesome response. I am truly flattered and humbled that this video has become so popular.
StarCraft and eSports have really affected me in a spectacular way. I have rarely been so enthusiastic about something in my entire life. I’ve long wanted to help the community grow and refine, and I’m so glad that my first ever real contribution has received such a stunning response! To clarify some stuff:
-- This montage wasn’t meant to be exhaustive. I know that some amazing people (Fruitdealer, MC, a few foreigners) and events (IEM, ESL, Homestory Cup, the literally dozens of other foreign tournaments) weren’t well represented, which sucks. Someone even mentioned “American bias”, which was hilarious since I’m Australian lol. I wish I could have included them all, but it was pretty hard finding footage for what I did end up including – let alone every big name to grace the SC2 scene.
-- My geographical knowledge sucks, so the dots on the map were supposed to be vague and weren't meant to mean anything substantial. Sorry!
-- There are a few editing mistakes, and stylistically the editing could’ve seen improvement. This took me over two weeks to put together - too long for me, too short to create anything truly magnificent - so I was a bit fatigued by the end of it. If there’s a next time, I’ll start it well in advance and use all the skills I’ve got to make it even better. :D
-- Tracklist: Steve Jablonsky - Arrival to Earth, Treat - Roar, Blood Angel - Expand Your Horizon, Swedish House Mafia - Save the World Once again, so incredibly humbled! I literally trembled at the response, and to see people like HuK liking it… man, I’m just so amazed. I love you all!

good movie, perfectly done actually, i pride myself on finding flaws and did not here. Unfortunately. Good viewing, its a shame really. but things happen for a reason. viva la SC2~ movie brought a tear to my eye. Its not nerdchills people, its just a real thing happening here, kind of like when that scene on Social Network, they say we dont know what we have here, well sc2 is like that atm (in my eyes) will it rest as it is, or does it still have this impending explosion of success beyond our wildest dreams in its future.
That was an amazing video package. Awesome stuff, though I wish it had that shot of BoxeR's reaction after defeating NaDa in GSL2, that was probably the best single person reaction from anything in StarCraft 2 so far.
Awesome video, defiantly needs a spotlight! I can't believe we have already had one amazing year of this game. SC2 has already come so far in this short time span, just think what can be achieved in the future. I'm happy knowing that I was here for the beginning. Great find HuK

lol, it's pretty easy to make it Australian, just spam FXO on the screen for a minute!
Awesome stuff man......SC2 has become my second home and the community is what really does it for me.....such an activate and vibrant community here I hope with every ounce of me that what we have seen is just the tip of the iceberg!
Haha nice video, the editing was well done in my opinion. Like you said, it's relatively too short to really be truly magnificent but nevertheless I totally enjoyed watching it. edit; marineking <3
Just checked it on youtube, it's so surprising how many people are complaining that there's no star in Sweden. If the stars were meant to represent SC2 activity or tournaments, I doubt Australia would have 3 of them!
Wow, really amazing video, thank you so much for this! I am so grateful that the SC2 community is full of talented and passionate people like yourself and the people you show in your video, that really is why StarCraft is where it is now and will only get bigger and better in the future.
In the words of Artosis, this really did give me the nerd chills. After the first year I am more confident now that SC2 will live up to the greatness of BW, and maybe even someday surpass it (although BW will always hold a unique place in the hearts of anyone who had the fortune to experience it).
As a side note, lately I have been hearing about the production of many documentaries about SC2, and I really hope they have a similar feeling to this video. I would be proud to show anybody a video like this as it really exhibits what StarCraft is all about, and would be able to do so even more in the form of a full length documentary.
Actually brought a tear to my eye when I re watched the HuK in the air at dreamhack, I'm such TL fannboy.
Only thing I could fault it for is lack of MC, as on of the most baller people on the earth and mb some Nestea, since both of them are 2 time champions.
Anyway, 5/5, keep up the great work, you sir are awesome!

Tears... That was beautiful. It makes it even better that I know alot of the footage. Maybe not the best choice of ingame moments, but my god was it moving. ESPORTS
All the best Starcraft videos are the ones that show just how much this game means to players and fans. And this video did a fantastic job of both. Thank you for that fantastic video.

great stuff... no naniwa or MC so i'm sad, but it was a great great representation of the first year of SC2. now I have something to show my friends who have no idea bout esports

Yeah sorry about that. Not much good footage of them
Pretty cool video. I think it's really good to watch from an outsider perspective, which is difficult for an avid Starcraft player to capture; you did a great job. I wish I had seen a shot Naniwa lifting his trophy at the winner's ceremony of MLG Dallas or IdrA fist-pumping when he beat HuK on the main stage. I know there's pretty great quality footage of those two moments out there.

Are you serious? Naniwa: It's okay MC: all the entrances and interviews weren't enough for you -____-

Well yeah, there's footage out there, but it was either inaccessible to me (I don't own all the GSL season passes) or too low quality to include. More likely though, I didn't look hard enough.

It's still so amazing man. Thanks for this video. I've watched it 3 times already.
Incredible video! Sooo many nerd chills occurred during this. This should really be spotlighted because of how amazing it is Edit: When BoxeR was getting up and you heard "he's still my hero".....damn that was so sad. a good sad, but sad.
really nice video i´m a sucker for cheesy music. It just really really bothers me that there is no mentioning of IEM as it was a big part of the first year of Starcraft 2 for me (i was at gamescom ,where IEM finals were held and got to meet with people for the first time)
Amazing video, brought some nerd tears in my eyes , literally. Yes you could have included many things, but it would have been a 2h documentary at least ^^.
Great video man, could have included hours and hours of footage with the year of success SC2 has had. It must of been difficult trying to choose the clips, great choices none the less.
its not bad, but i still see brood war as a better game. but when sc2 becomes balanced as good as brood war then it will become a lot better! nice movie btw ^^
Awesome, but you totally missed two parts from MLG Columbus that should have been there; 1. Moon's baneling-bomb vs Slush. 2. When the crowd chanted MMA when he won. But really cool vid.
This is one of the most amazing videos I have ever seen of Starcraft 2, thanks a lot and thanks also all the community(players, admins, sites, casters, etc) that maes Starcraft 2 the best game right now!
And obviously Blizzard for creating such a great game
Pretty awesome-Great work Can't wait to see what other people are working on for this first year anniversary. So many moments can't be made into one video.
This video was one of the greatest contribution videos to the community of all time in my opinion. I never knew what "nerdchills" were until I watched this, and saw the emotion by the players, and seeing HuK thrown into the air by his jubilant teammates. Thanks for sharing mate.
When I read through your various disclaimers I was worried it wouldn't be that great... but it was really well done! I do agree that it would have been nice to have a few more tournaments featured, but nevertheless you have to stop at some point.
I can't wait to see another one of these videos in the future with just a crap load of content looking back on several years with this kind of quality editing.
Great video and nice sound editing too, the "boxer - still hero" part was superb, manly tears indeed.
The moments were wisely chosen too, good job man, worthy of the first year.. of course people will miss some stuff that they consider best but it's subjective and we can't have it all, give him a rest guys.
A quick tip to make it even better from sound editing perspective next time: in a video this short, you don't have time for proper fade-in and fade-outs, you have to either mix it rapidly (fast fade-in of a new song into the old one during a slowdown) or - even better - find the exact moment in the rhythm to cut the song out, a couple of beats for dramatic pause (maybe some one-tone background) and cut the next song in in a dramatic crescendo or beginning of a theme.
That was amazing and really quite emotional! It brought a tear to my eye it really was an amazing video. And I will definitely save it so I can watch it whenever I feel down! Really really impressive!
This was seriously bad-ass SO EPIC!, I got really touched of this tbh.. I can't ladder now for a while hehe. My friends got really touched to.. pretty awesome to see.
So many chills and emotions throughout the video, choked up on the sadness part, sc2 has evolved so much in a years time. Showing this video to anyone would be an easy way to show why it's such a big deal. Can't wait to see how the game continues to evolve, especially with the two expansions coming down the line.
I think one of the most powerful and touching clips in this video is when all the players on Team Liquid rush the stage and embrace HuK, Awesome stuff!
When I saw the Video in Facebook I had to hunt down this thread. It was amazing throughout. I had Nerd Chills the whole time. Thanks so much for putting no doubt alot of work into this video. Front page anyone? <3
I was teary eyed the whole way through, biting my finger at times, really felt a lot of emotions welling up. So yeah, very effective use of music, captions, and video footage.
This is amazing. Don't let the haters get you down or anything. If they think some stuff is missing or that it's "america biased" they can just make their own video and upload it to youtube, simple.

Man, if I'd known how to play Terran like I do now...I would've done so well back in those early ladder days x) All those tiny maps OMNOMNOMNOMNOM.
Very well produced, the music and scenes fit real well. Loved the Dimaga vs tester kotb game, saw the lings, saw the building placement, and screamed out "OMG... ANOTHER FAILED DIMAGA BANELING BUST". truly touching video.
This is such a great video. It really reaffirms my belief that the SC community is one that will hold tight for much longer, and yes, SC will eventually become a sport
Also, the music choices were really good. Loving the Jablonsky track.
Easily one of the most awesome fan videos I've ever seen, it really had as much of the excitement and emotion as can be captured in 8 minutes spilling over the sides!
Massive congratulations to the creator, truly inspiring!
Wow this video was really well done missed some gosu players who made the tournament so much awesome and fun to watch but nevertheless this was wicked niceley done
An excellent video, definitely got nerd chills throughout. I loved how the TSL music started right after the intro into global, I was like OMG I KNOW WHATS COMING. I love this game, and I love where its going; this was a fitting tribute to the first year of SC2
Amazing video, really well edited, couldn't see any bias like some people are mentioning, but people on the internet will always find shit to complain about. ^^
It truly sums up the first year of SC2 pretty well :D
On July 13 2011 00:23 Ledo wrote: wow cool, never saw anything from the beta before. Forcefielding to stop banelings was so revolutionary ^^
And now overlords to carry them over are equally revolutionary This is why it's such a good game, it will take thousands of people playing it for years before it is mapped out.
But I don't think it sums up everything that had happened. I could've been way longer with more crazy scenes from different games and more huge moments. But i understand, that it is SO hard to pick the best scenes from so much content there has been throughout the last year
It was great to see all the sadness and happiness caused by Starcraft 2 Thats so interesting: for most people it is "just a game". But for few it is so much more, cause they dedicate most or even all of their time to it. And thats just what I love about this community
I love wasting my time on StarCraft 2
Yeah, that video gave me nerd chill for sure! Very very nice
A good video, enjoyed watching it. It reallty got me pumped. However, it's not a very good recap of the one year of StarCraft 2. I would really like a video that shows the evolution of gameplay and casting of Tastosis and others. The way people talked about the game in the beginning and how it has changed. The ideas about how to play the game, just to show how much development the game has had OUTSIDE of the gameplay.

This video was awesome, I was so hoping it wouldn't end. I love it, I hope you make another one for next year mate, cause this one was so well done! You just have to watch it in High Definition.

Because nerdiness is awesome, and choking up over a Starcraft retrospective video is a very nerdy thing to do, so he told us about that?
Seeing Boxer and MMA's sad face made me get a massive lump in my throat though, especially when they said Boxer is still a hero and he definitely is still my hero.
Also, I don't want to sound like I could have done that video better, because I certainly could not have done better than you, but I would like to suggest that thanks also deserves to go to people like Mr. Chae from GOMTV, Lee from MLG, and someone like Milkis the translator.

Thanks Kelly! It's amazing to have to many people who were in the actual video come out and say they enjoyed it makes me feel like I did something right!
great video! Really wish some MC footage was in there. It's hard to believe that with all his accolades and showmanship there isn't 1 sec of him in the video.

Hehehe, I chuckled at that, 'cause it is exactly what I would have said if it were myself.
Anyway, video was all around awesome! I got chills when the TSL3 theme kicked in. You included some really good music that totally captured the year. Truthfully, I did tear up near the end… but I cry at almost everything so it wasn't any real great surprise.
Great video, but I wish there were more panning camera shots on the crowds for the individual tournaments. Like, say you're showing this to someone that doesn't know about sc2. They'll see a bunch of names for tournaments, but you only showed crowds for GSL and Dreamhack I think?
That's my only minor criticism, the video is great =)
On July 13 2011 19:03 Owii wrote: I loved the scene where the TSL3 music started playing and they put up the world map showing how much Starcraft has grown. Very, very cool moment.
For some reason though, Sweden didn't get one of those dots.
<3 great video, makes me wanna go ahead and actually start on videos myself again. Plus it makes you look back on a) the first year of sc 2 in terms of tourneys and b) on your own first year (on in many cases however long it has been since they started till know) and reflect your own relationship with the game. Great job, looking forward to the one for year 2.
Amazing video but the soundtrack "Arrival to Earth" from Transformers, even if it is Hans Zimmer's caliber was made by Steve Jablonsky and not by Hans Zimmer...
AWESOME video. Love the recap of the year with all the tournaments/leagues and such. Can't believe that SC2's 1 year is coming up because it went by really fast.
The ready to rock reminds me of getting into Starcraft and TL, not knowing that you could actually watch GSL live at 4 a.m. (I usually stay up that late anyway). Watching tastosis cast such beautiful games back in my newbie days was as good as the first time I fell in love....nevermind it was better. The days where I had to sit through 1st set VODs over and over to ease the addiction that watching SC2 is. I can't believe it has been over 9 months since I first started watching and playing SC2. It has been a good ride so far, I can't wait to see the scene keep developing..maybe even see a tournament stream with over 100k people watching within the next year.
Wow, that was so awesome. Really very, very well done. I literally teared up a little @ 7:28 through the end of the video. I showed it to my SC buddies, my roommates, and my gf. All any of them could say was "Wow..."
This game, this community, the players, the casters, and the epic predecessor BW. . . I love it all.
What a fantastic year for E-SPORTS and StarCraft fans. Let the good times roll on.
I went ahead and watched it again because it is just that good ^_^
Great video, hope to see more videos like this popping out soon, maybe some player or team documentaries following people through tournaments. These types of videos are always great to watch, and give you those goosebump moments.
Why the hell is ESL not mentioned O_O ESL and IEM are probably the most viewed events outside GSL and TSL. They do more tournaments than any other organisation.
This was released a day after the NASL finals, so I imagine he just don't have the time to cut a good segment in time. On the other hand, he did featured the NASL intro video midway through.
Poor ESL, it's the PoltPrime of the tournament world.
