[Interview]Leaving the country to face new challenges -- Fnatic Rain[image loading]

He's the man that comes to mind if you're thinking of cheese. He's the Fnatic Rain, the man who showed everyone the cutting edge of cheese rushes. This man is on the road to leave the country, wearing a new set of clothes to take on a new challenge. Before he left the country, I had the opportunity to talk to him, the man who announced that he wouldn't participate in the GSL July group ceremonies and surprised many.

▼ So, I get to see you again like this. You have moved to a new team.
- I'm glad that I have been able to achieve what I wanted. Now all that is left for me to do is to try my best to achieve my new goal.

▼ I'm curious about the process you went about went finding a new team. Was it like when Twilight moved to FXO, and you had to ask them directly? Or did you just get offers? How did it happen?
- I've always wanted to move onto the global scene. I was really ambitious. It was not something I was able to do by myself. There were people around me who were helping me out. Through these people, I've been able to tell a few foreign teams I was interested and then negotiated amongst them. Out of those, I heard that Fnatic was interested, and after negotiation, I was able to sign a contract.

▼ Why did you choose Fnatic out of all the teams?
- There were offers from other teams but Fnatic was the most aggressive about it. In my opinion, Fnatic is a brand name team. I have seen many players under Fnatic during the World Championship and in the preliminaries before. Regardless of their skill, they were players that you could have faith in. That was the biggest thing.

▼ Did everything conclude well with your former team?
- That's right. I told my former team about my desire to move out into the global scene before the article about me leaving the team came out. I've talked quite a bit in the short period of time I had with Coach Lee Woon Jae. There wasn't any trouble and he encouraged me to do my best.

▼ There's no way we're can't talk about you not participating from GSL July, which is quite the big issue. What had happened?
- I'm really sorry because I hurt a lot of people without intending to. Everything that I can reveal about it is in the post I left at PlayXP. There were a lot of issues at that time, and I think there were problems during communication. Regarding the information about the punishment, I accept it and I think it's an obvious decision.

▼ I won't ask any further then. Let's talk about you switching teams again. We know that you signed the contract -- were the conditions okay?
- That's right. The contract is finalized. The conditions are satisfactory. Salary, funding for equipment, and flight fees for when I participate in foreign tournaments.

▼ In that case, when will we be able to see you performing in your new team?
- I've already had a match.

▼ Already? Which game were you sent out on?
- After the contract, I've had a match in the EG Masters cup that is going on now. Because it is online, it's not like I wore a uniform or anything. I think that I will be able to come out in the new uniform in the next tournament.

▼ Is there an upcoming tournament you are aiming for?
- It isn't certain yet, but I want to take part in MLG Anaheim, which is quite soon. If I get to participate, I think that'll be the first tournament I will participate in with the new uniform.

▼ In that case, are you leaving the country today because you are aiming for that tournament?
- Nope. Like I have said just now, it's not completely certain if I will be able to participate in MLG Anaheim or not. I will participate in other tournaments other than MLG Anaheim, but even if there wasn't a tournament, I was planning on leaving the country regardless.

▼ Did anything bad happen to you while you were in Korea? It sounds like you're fleeing the country.
- Please don't say anything that could be misunderstood. I'll be reading everything. Because I lived overseas for a bit when I was young, there's something fragrant about it that remained. And I wanted to go overseas to challenge myself in something new. I wanted to learn English as well as other things I could do

▼ Does that mean you were thinking of leaving the country even if you didn't get a contract?
- That's right. It's something that was needed for my future and I didn't want it to get any more delayed.

▼ You're really something to think something like that since you're so young. Where are you planning on staying?
- First, I'm planning on going to New York. I have an acquaintance there and I'm planning on staying at that person's house.

MVP's GuineaPig, who came to see Rain off at the Airport

▼ What are the goals you want to achieve?
- Even if I don't win, I want to experience a wide variety of tournaments. But that's not to say I don't want to win. Of course I want to do well.

▼ Is there any player you want to play against in a foreign tournament?
- Greg Fields. I don't have anything against him, but I didn't get to play him in an official match when he was in Korea. I played him a few times in the ladder and he left an deep impression. I wanted to play against him in an official match if I had the opportunity.

▼ Which one of you won more in the ladder?
- I gave some and I took some... it was very similar.

▼ If you meet him in an official match, are you going to cheese him, or stab him early with a build like 11-11?
- If I have the opportunity? (laugh)

▼ For the conclusion, say something to your fans.
- There are people who are always cheering for me and supporting me. I will do my best overseas and get good results, so it'd be great if you would encourage me and cheer for me.

I'm wondering what Rain means by a "deep impression" that IdrA left. The wording seems pretty innocuous, but given the types of impressions IdrA has left on other GSL players, there may be something hidden under the words.

Thanks for the translation, and best of luck to Rain. As it is it's a little rare for foreigners to enter Korea, but short of MC, Moon and MLG Colombus there are few-to-no Koreans entering the foreign scene, I think it's nice to see.

As it is I respect Moon and MC more for being active outside Korea than even some of the greater players in Korea.

IdrA bmed the crap out of Korean ladder, we all know that. When some dudes bm you in a language you don't really understand, it sure will leave a deep impression.

Anyone know what he's referring to when he says,

"Regarding the information about the punishment, I accept it and I think it's an obvious decision."

I've been gone a couple days and cant seem to see anything about Rain's punishment, anyone have cliffs of what happened?

I believe Rain was banned from GSL for 2 seasons or something like that, which may turn out to be more a symbolic gesture as Rain likely won't be back in Korea during the next 2 GSLs.

Unable to participate in the next two GSL's(So that means he can't get the Code S/A spot at MLG)

Rain didn't give GomTV enough notice for his departure, so they couldn't find a suitable replacement for his Code S spot and that gave some people walkovers. I believe he has been banned for the next 2 GSL tournaments if he chooses to participate in them.
