Hi!
As many others also have, I have been thinking about how awesome it would be to be able to go down to you local bar, get a beer and watch a StarCraft game on a big screen together witch other fans. I have been thinking about this for quite some time and it will soon be possible for everyone in Stockholm.
I have had a few meetings with the managers of Olearys Sportsbar and they are very positive to the idea. The are willing to make it a repeated event if the first StarCraftbar goes well.
My question is:
What tournament would you like to see? Olearys want so dates and I want to know what would be most interesting for the fans? Something within a month but not in the nearest two weeks, thats to soon to plan.
Thanks!
Facebook Group with additional barcraft events! http://www.facebook.com/groups/263581126992851/ The Crib is fully booked but there will also be another barcraft in the stockholm vicinity!
|
MLG and this weekend and I will be there.
|
I'd defenitly join in for it if it was in gothenburg or anywhere in västra götaland.. but for the tourney just get any of the big ones.. MLG/IEM/GSL etc and make sure its a final.
|
Damn well done.
I am sure everyone would love GSL + Homestorycup III and MLG.
Brb moving to Sweden.
|
Wow sick, they should do the same in Iceland. Still cool that your doing that!
|
Ha, I wish I was old enough to go to bars in the first place. Sounds fun though, I'll be sure to visit in a year~~~
|
Feels like NASL goes fucking all the time. So I guess that could work. GSL if it's on and around lunch hours, NASL in the evening. Possibly something else the hours after 22.00
|
Well dreamhack would obviously be the big one atleast considering its a swedish event and its in slightly more than 2 weeks so its very close call
|
The awesomeness of sweden is about to explode!
|
Man this is so sick! Any tourny really. Olearys is like my favorite sports bar in Stockholm! WHich one have you been talking to?
|
Probably needs to be something big that people actually care about. The problem is that there are usually no finals on during the evening swedish time. Best bet would be the Dreamhack playoffs IMO
|
That would be awesome, I might even travel to Stockholm if the circumstances allows it.
Regarding what tournament that they should cover, an event like MLG would be awesome. Guess it might be a bit hard to get the ball rolling for this MLG so quickly, but how about the next stop? I think the events that includes swedish players, but also the best from other countries would draw the most viewers, otherwise I would have suggested GSL.
|
Well missing dreamhack playoffs would be a big mistake imo its easly the best especially since the bar can then market it as a Esport night not just starcraft
|
concidering that Swedish women are some of the hottest/most beautiful in the whole world, one might concider starting a relationship with one and move to Sweden
but it's just so fucking expensive >.>
awesome news!!!!!!!! i want to see that in Denmark too
|
I'm not sure of dates of tournaments but Dreamhack probably would be the best fit. The homestory cup might work as well. The gsl would be great, but it's kind of in the wrong time no?
|
I'd say go with ESPORTS instead of just starcraft. And just the finals of one of the tourneys. We do get alot of content over shot periods of time compared to other sports.
MLG for instance, 3 days literally packed with games.
|
Somebody should to the same in Göteborg (Gothenburg) it doesnt need to be in a bar tho, could be at a LAN café to (GameZ, Vasa Gaming). It would be so awesome!
|
|
Definately do it on a finals night of GSL or MLG or one of the other really important LANs.
I wonder how long it would take to drive from kent uk to sweden....gaming scene here seems very dead....
|
Hi!
Thax for all the quick feedback.
The Problem with Dreamhack is that i am going to be there and work and since i am responsible to Olearys and they want me there for at least the first event.
|
Fuck I chose the wrong country to be born in :/
|
Hey, this is awesome! Shame I'm not in Sweden, but if something like this were to go down in my neck of the woods, probably something like the GSL would be good for us, mainly because Korea is only an hour... behind/ahead of Australia time (well, Melbourne anyway).
I think that whatever is happening that matches with your timezone would fit well. A finals night or something so it's exciting, too. But whatever you go for, best of luck and I hope it sets a trend that goes world-wide!

you didn't get to choose. :<
|
Goodluck. Dont live in stockholm or id probably check it out.
|
4 hours to get there, and 4 hours to get back? Worth it. I'll show up.
|
Which Oleary's though? There's like a million of them. Dreamhack would be the best but since it's not possible...next MLG maybe?
|

Well it would be European events or you'd have to do rebroadcasts of shown NA or Kor events, as they air at non bar going hours. Homestory Cup III is probably the best event in the near future.
HomeStory Cup/3
|
Well, since I guess this weekend's MLG is too close and DHS apparently is a no-go... You know what, it doesn't really matter which event it is - any time that's not in normal work-hours would be enough for me to come and check it out.
Edit: omgIjustsawMLGAnaheimwillbeonmybirthday(endofjuly)pleasehavesomethingthen???? :D:D:D
|
haha that would be so damn awesome. tbh anytime when theres an event going would be awesome. i mean any live-event would be glorious.
|
That's awesome. Step into a bar and drink some cold beers watching SC on big screens and your friends seems like a dream.
The obvious choice would be GSL, MLG, Dreamchack, NASL Good luck.

This gentleman named Hasse had the same idea a few months ago and asked for feedback in another thread thread, I'd advise you to check it out as it concerns pretty much exactly what you're doing.
You can find his thread here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=222266
His was only an idea though, and I believe he stated that he was nowhere near putting his plan in motion, so you at least got a head start if you've gotten this far. Well then, let the better bar win.
Oh, and for the record, if you can get it up during the summer, I know where I'll spend my time and money warm summer evenings.

The MSL final between Zero and Flash (BW). Gogogo.

thx for link! like i said, a lot of people have had the same idea, but its not a competition. As long as the event goes well im pleased!

Kind of jealous :S I can't even get practice parnters irl since all the ~8 finn players I know are some fucking bronzes and It's starting to be really awful without practive partner, shit I can't play this game really anymore soon. (back to wow or what?) -_- Bar would be over the top arldy. GL with it.
|
I'd say Homestory cup 3 would be the best event in the near future, but it might actually be too close already(?)
|
|
This is awesome! Too bad I live in US
|
I'll be in Sweden over the summer and I'll be sure to stop by! Awesome thing
|
Sounds amazing! One day I'll live in Sweden... One day...
|
SWEDEN Y I NO LIVE THERE!
Its an awesome idea... man, sweden is so cool.. TT
MLG this weekend if you can arrange it, or get a premium account and watch GSL @ night... coz going too a bar in the morning is not really healthy
|
Excellent, good work! I would prefer watching big tournies, non group play. Be it IPL, NASL, TSL, GSL, Dreamhack invitational and or summer/winter, MLG etc.
|
Go for it! An US torunament is unwise since the last matches will be too late, and a shame that you can't do it for Dreamhack. But Homestory cup #3 I'd say is your best shot. And I sure hope if this spins off there will be one for the autumn thingy off Dreamhack at least. Dreamhack is swedens esport pride, need more coverage!

omg sweeden is awesome!
|
You think this could happen to more Olearys bars throughout Sweden? Would be so awesome!
|
How about if its a weekday? Or is it important that its on a weekend? cause that will be a difficult restriction.
Ill be talking to Olearys tomorrow again, so then ill know how soon its possible to arrange this.
|
It the first event goes well there we might expand to more of Olearys bars. But the first event will take place at only on bar in the central parts of Stockholm.

Well, call me a cynic, but in the end it's all in the profit, and thus, it's a competition if you encroach on each others targeted audience. Which, in this case, you very well might.
Sorry to be a party pooper, but I'm tired of the whole "all the E-sports ventures can peacefully coexist"-attitude which seems prevalent with E-sport casters and organisers, love for the game and enthusiasm is no longer the driving factor within E-sports, money is now the name of the game. Make no mistake. In E-sports, commercialism has come. With all its horror, and all its glory. (See what I did there?)
And lastly, to end on a positive note, yay for multiple E-sports bars in my town! ^^
|
I still think Dreamhack will be the best for the first event, even though you said you couldn't be there. Not only Dreamhack fits the time well, but it's also the national thing.
I think it's bit risky to choose event like MLG, considered what happened to the stream last time. First event must be successful, and MLG is too much of a gamble.
|
People, you all might want to keep the praises down until he manages to get something going. Even organizing one evening of StarCraftBar but not getting enough people to get the bar interested is not worthy of praise. You will only disappoint yourself if this fails.
Say, good luck and try to give him good tournament advice. All these Sweden is the best posts are pretty useless and save them for the time when something actually happens.

I disagree. I dont do this for money, frankly i might have to pay some to make this happen. I do this because I myself want to watch SC in a bar and just chill. Me and my brother use to watch games together and in a bar would be even cooler.
When I work in esportmedia it is a lot mot about competition, but I love that the SC community is quite nice and open and a lot of people really try to coexist. That only makes the scene better. However, when something like this becomes big, and companies starts to realize that there is money to be made is inevitable that its gonna have an impact on the scene. So yes, commercialism is indeed here, and we would sadly not survive without it. (why yes, very clever, indeed ^^)

and yes, if not enough people show up there is not going to be a next one! Thats why im starting to give heads up now so that more people will know about it.

European events would be my advice considering the time of the day they're shown, primetime. MLG Could be a contender if it was on the eastcoast but it'd go on past closing time for most bars. The Korean leagues are generally midday to late afternoon. The time's okay but no in any way optimal.
So that leaves Dreamhack - Which probably is too soon Homestory III NASL - Which is rebroadcasted at primetime for Europe, which is pretty sweet and in 1080p.
|
Don't show any bw matches! The sc2 community/popularity is much bigger than the bw in Sweden... In Sweden cricket and baseball are very small sports but big in other countries. It's the same thing with broodwar, it's big in Korea but not in Sweden. You can't argue that just because it's big in Korea or it's forerunner in e-sport that it would be a great idea to market it in Sweden.
Sweden has many players in sc2 and thus a great sense of national pride every time there is a Swedish success. When NASL launched they insisted on having players that the viewers could recognise and that is the case with sc2.
Besides sc2 show cs, hon and quake.
|
Just be sure to have a backup plan a stream breaks from the tournament you are watching. Having vods prepared or something.

wow, I'll definitely be there!
Let me know if you guys need a DJ or something.
EDIT: I'd go if you showed the MSL finals. Love me some good ol' BW.
|
Cool idea
I think making it a e-sports bar would be safer since it would interest more people. If you would show for example, Sc2, CS, HoN or something this would get attention from all three communities.
|
Well, since GSL is usually in the mornings, early afternoon that's an option. In the evening you havethe EU coverage of the NASL, and whenever there are IPL qualifiers they are around midnight, so you've just got to fill the gap between GSL and NASL with VODs and you'll be set

Its a good idea. But we have to star somewhere. and since StarCraft is the esport im most interested in myself it felt natural to go with it. And SC is one of the biggest esports in the world so if any game, it should be SC i think.

Just make sure you have your legal things in order. For most high-end tournaments, I doubt you can just go on and put on public viewings just like that. They probably won't make it difficult for you, but better safe than sorry.

It infuriates me that an awesome idea like this could fail because money grubbing fat asses might decide it hurts the profitability of the tournament or whatever.

Which O´Learys in Stockholm is it? (Assuming that there are a couple). I think i'll go to O´Learys here in Göteborg and talk with them about it aswell, and it'd probably be easier if i had a reference to an O´Learys that i knew already done it.
As far as i know the common interest from people at my uni and so on, that place would be crowded pretty much instantly for something like GSL or MLG.. Epic.

Always start with the safest option in risky ventures such as this, I'd hate to see this fail.
I do believe this can work out, seeing as Dreamhack Invitational was a huge success. It proves that the interest does exist, it's just a question of reaching out to your audience. Try to get the word of mouth going, get the boys on Rakaka writing some article about it(I assume you have connections there), try to advertise here on TL, create a Facebook group, tweet about it, all that good jazz.

This post makes valid points:
Choose an event which is broadcasted on a reasonable time. Afaik rebroadcasts of these can occur on weekdays aswell as weekends, it would be logical to have it on a weekday aswell, since I guessit would be harder to rent the place for weekends.
Anyways if this goes through, please repost when and excactly where this will occur and I will no doubt go there with as many friends as possible!

Two my fellow Swedish friends; In my years I have come to know you for your knives, cheese, and friendly nature.

Well, looks like NASL would be the best choice if Dreamhack is not available. Just ask them if it is OK

Not to be a hater, but one of the minor problems with watching starcraft is having the commentary muffled out. Bars tend to be on the louder side and some don't even have the audio on. I would imagine the volume would have to be quite high in a bar.

make it the homestory cup 3 that will be so f-in awesome

This sounds really sweet, since I'll spend the summer in Stockholm I'm definitely coming =)
Things to consider:
The event shown must be streamed in the evening.
For events played over a few consecutive days the final day would obviously be preferable ^^
It could perhaps be an idea to contact TLO and the swedes in the pro house and see if they want to attend? Also contacting Rakaka could be a good idea.
|
well for small tournaments you can do wrap ups
i mean say theres no major tournament going on right then you could do something like showing that days gsl matches and NASL matches along with some minor cup like viking cup or something

This should be alright. The same "problem" applies to regular public viewing. Yes, the tv volume might offend regular customers. One should publicly announce it as an event- much like Superbowl or Soccer Worldcup so people know it's not a regular evening.
As long as enough people show up for SC2 it shouldn't concern the bar owner too much in regards of earnings and atmosphere.

It's just that sports you can understand w/o a commentary. Starcraft without a commentary can be difficult.

i may be very wrong but i think it should stay away from GSL for a bit, until it gets familiarized by commoners first. GSL is just too asian(korean) focused and i can't help but to think some first timers(people that just happens to be at the bar) will wonder why its all asians. i'd say do dreamhack/mlg/nasl/ipl first then GSL, or on the days the foreigners are playing.
i dont know the level of discrimination in stockholm but i'm just saying, considering the unfamiliar.

If I was running a SC Bar I would run GSL in the Morning, NASL in the afternoon, other US cups in the evening, and special broadcasts for MLG or other prestiges tournaments like Dreamhack or IPL when it starts Too bad I live in Macedonia where the SC2 community is me and 10 more people, 3 of whom i know Atleast we do parties for finals of big tournaments where even non-players come and enjoy watching the matches. I do think there's a reason why not many, if any bars, are open in the morning. Because there's very few paying customers around at that time. The customers that have money are those who work (or to some lesser degree study) and most of the people who work, work 9-5 jobs, Monday to Friday.
|
Well I feel MLG will be consistent this time around, but maybe waiting for something like Dreamhack would be smart just because it is very likely to run smoothly and the time it is being aired should work. The bar owners may not like it if they just have commercials or a black screen running the whole time (but they are probably gamers so they know what it's like).
|
Do you as a bar have to pay a fee? Because regular sport bars have to pay tv rights for sport certain channels or leagues or cups.
|
Awesome, will be there for sure if i'm in Stockholm at the time.
|
You should get in contact with GOM and ask for streaming rights, similar to what the GSL finals parties do, stream that, Contact NASL and IPL and do the same, that should give you literally hours of content every day to have out for people?
Maybe even contact a few youtube casters to do a series? MLG wouldn't be a bad idea either during MLG season.
|
Any updates on this? I don't live in stockholm but would sure travel there for this if possible!

I would go there for Dreamhack maybe, but not much else. MLG possibly. You can't really do GSL since it spans over several weeks, it's gonna be a one-day event or even a one-night event.
|
MLG is nice since it will be on in the afternoon - night in Sweden.
|
Baller nerd bar fight incoming.
|
Dreamhack would have been optimal, but since it's a bit to late for that, i think Homestory would be the most optimal! I live in Stockholm as well, and I will defenetly show up for this. I'm out most nights drinking anyway, so might as well drag some buddies there and watch me some SC2
|
I think any popular European League would be good. DH, HSIII would be good for your idea to work! GL mate!
|
Well one of the bigger tournaments for sure, like MLG Dreamhack(obviously you cant do this one) or something of the likes. Since there will probably be more than nerds there we need to have the first event as professional as possible. With the production looking stellar and commentators good and everything. That's my opinion at least!
However I love the Idea that you are making this work and I will definetly turn up for the first event! Which O'learys are we talking about?
|
Any updates on this? I've been longing for an event like this in Stockholm!

Any updates on the Stockholm bar?

Gief this in östersund -.-

Would totally work in gothenburg I think. I could go with about 5-10 people no problem

I live in Linköping as well, I would definitaly go.

A perfect start for this bar would be during DreamHack Invitational in Valencia.
Would be nice for all of us Swedes that don't have the possibility to fly to Valencia but still want to enjoy some DreamHack :D
|
I am totally in for a DH bar during Valencia.
|
Semi-official update:
We're trying to organize it for the Valencia event, will probably add a pool later to see how many could show up etc. !
If people enjoy or want to have a esports-bar during the Dreamhack Invitational in Valencia, please show support or interest in the form of a post or the likes!
Hopefully we might be able to do multiple but most probably it would be during the finals, we're not sure yet and working on it.
Stay tuned for updates!
|
yes plz give me some of that

Count me in for sure, if its near stockholm i'll go alot to show support. And i know atleast 6+ friends that would want to go just as much.
Hope its a succes.
|
you should pick an offline event to show... SC2 seems to be more interesting to none sc2 ppl when they show a stage with commentators and you can see the players and such. Not same thing if its only ingame view.
|
|
I will definitely show up if I'm not working :>
|
I'm soooo up for it!
Cheers for people making these things happen
|
Ill be there with some friends for sure!
|
Glad to see this has made progress. Let us know if us at /r/barcraft can be of any help to you guys!

Im starting my studies in Linköping in about a week. Might not be enough for a SC bar but people could still get thogheter at some place to watch SC2 or do whatever. Thoughts?

If it's the same week(end) as something else I want to do in Stockholm I'll definitely hop on the bus to go there

Alright Time for official update
Ive been talking to both Dreamhack and Olearys and Dreamhack Invitational Valecia is was would be most fitting.
Olearys is currently looking for a fitting bar (they have manny) and have so far suggested one of their largest ones with bigger widescreen than the others. However, that bar is in Kista. (there is one other but it is at Heron City, and thats a nogo. to far out)
Everyone from Stockholm know that Kista is 15 mins from the central with the blueline subway. So. Is it too far out? There is room for more people and bigger screens, but its quite important that enought people show up so that Olearys wants to continue with their StarCraft pubs.
Poll: Would you show at Olearys in Kista?Sure, 15 min is nothing for StarCraft! (87) 81% Not ever. Suburbs sucks. (20) 19% 107 total votes Your vote: Would you show at Olearys in Kista? (Vote): Sure, 15 min is nothing for StarCraft! (Vote): Not ever. Suburbs sucks.
thx for answers and input.
THX // Ina
|
There might not be another fitting location, so if this is our the only choice i would like to know if its better to wait for the next event.
please give feedback to why you would or would not show!
|
I will be there for next event for sure!
|
This is freaking awesome. Fix something on the west coast because 500 km just for that is alittle too much
Or organize it together with a dreamhack weekend or something where you can go to the pub after you were at the actual event.
|

haha yeah, a bit to far for you. But if this goes well it migth spread even to the west coast!
|
I'm so jealous on you Swedes. Awesome SC2 players (we Austrians don't even have one player with the potential to get into GM I think), a country that cares about eSports and BarCraft - makes me think again about moving to Sweden...
|
This will be the first of many i am sure
|
how big would be the interest of something like this done in Austria?
|
too far away
|

yo i am sooo up for that! starbar! barcraft!

didnt read the thread just yet, will do it later but im shooting out in a sec, but olearys kista is not really interresting i think...
there are looads of olearys in town, and many other sportbars, like bowlers and other smaller venues that we could talk to.
such a good idea i will do whatever i can to help out and make it happen!

I agree. However a lot of the central Olearys have prior engagement. But we will keep looking.
|
Man, i wish i would live in Stockholm, the city sounds a lot more fun than Flensburg (Germany). There aren't even any other SC2 players here.
Anyone of you swedes working for a company that is in need of a programmer and would pay for moving? :p
|
I live in Kista so it's perfect
|
Both Kista and Heron city would work well for me, Heron perhaps even more so since I work 3 minutes from there It's not too far away from the city either, just no close by subway :/ Definitely keep us posted!

I'd definitely go - and I even wouldn't care about the beer they have

I'LL BE THERE!
Not too far at all - and shouldn't be for anyone living in Stockholm.
|
Me and fellow StarCraft 2 nerds have been looking for something like this, we live in Uppsala(30-45 min from Stockholm by car) and something similar to this would be awesome! We also have an Olearys in Uppsala, perhaps that could be an option?

Great idea though! *like*

Is this happening? Would it be possible to watch MLG next week on Olearys? Would be really cool, especially if Sweden took a lead on this.

Not next week im afraid. For Olearys this is a frist time ting and it needs some more planning. Hopefully this event goes well and there will be several more times.

Ideally this should be done during dreamhack, where the word would spread alot more, and faster.

I live fairly close to Kista too, so if nothing really important gets in my way, I'll definitely come by.

good luck, dude

Best of luck! I hope it goes well! Hopefully someone will do the same here in Gothenburg!
|
I'll be there

Nice initiative and I'll try to be there. Dreamhack has had some good quality tournaments as well, even if they did move it away from Sweden.
Kista isn't so bad I think. Of course something more central would be better but for a first time showing when they don't know about the interest it's pretty good. We just need to show them that people want to watch it.
|
I live in Norrköping but I would probably show up to support an esportbar in Stockholm!
|
If it was in gotenburg I would go for sure but stockholm is a bit far

It's a great idea but for now I think it'll be hard to maintain for longer than two or three seperate evenings. Esports is an internet culture, you might want to wait unless you can advertise it well. One failed attempt might discourage bar owners from giving you a chance later.

You should all go to norrland and learn what a long way means, in the land where a 3 hour car ride is a short drive to somewhere close. 15 minutes from the central station really isn't that far.
Not that I'm from there but at least lived there =)

I don't think anyone expects them to show SC2 all the time, just bigger events. Also I think that with TL hype and maybe rakaka.se reporting on this the risk is that there will be too many people instead of too few.

Kista is only one hour away for me so I'd love to go!
|
You forced me out of my lurkering ways with this topic! Daaaamn u sir. Anywho i would love to come. For anyone who dont know Kista and think its a far away suburb, here is some info from a guy who have been working there, part time, for about 3 years. ( I dont live there, live close to T-centralen). :
The O'learys in Kista is located in the shopping mall. The shopping mall is attached to the subway, so if you dont want to, you dont even have to set foot on acctual Kista ground . When going back its a 1 min walk trough the shopping mall to hop back on the subway and then 15 mins to T-centralen! They just reopened there after investing 10.000.000 kronor, adding bowlingcourts and LOTS of TV:s, so the place is really nice! The shopping mall is a really nice place for whatever, I do recommend checking out the women, CUS THEY ARE HOT THERE
As far as people showing up, i say this : I will for sure bring atleast 2 people i KNOW wants to come, thats not TL members. Sweden is a big SC2 country (ESPORTS in general) and Sthlm is the capital so i really dont see this failing. The bar dont expect us to fill the place (even if i really think thats possible). Dont overthink it. Just TELL everybody that Kista is the location, set the date and i am SURE people will show up. I mean how awsome isnt hanging out with people who have the same passion as yourself, drink beer, scout some hot women on the way AND see some high level SC2 with people that love it.
Great initiative! If you need any help just pm me and ill help you out! And for the crybabies thats talking about how far it is to get there (who is living in Sthlm) : really now.....REALLY?

By the way, if you are afraid to not have enough people in Kista, you can put some advertisements in the University Buildings in Kista.
There are lots of IT students from KTH and Stockholm Universitet that will be studying there everyday (when holidays will be over in less than a month). I know that lots of people play SC2 there as there were SC2 Lans organized by the students. It is just on the other side of the galleria.

Holy moly, havent noticed this thread until now!
Olearys in Kista is a perfect place to have these kinds of event. I work and live and Kista and as soon as someone get a confirmation that this is actually happening ill help out with the advertising locally, we have atleast twenty or so SC2-followers at work and we usually drink a beer or two after work on Olearys in Kista so we will probably stumble in.
great intiative!

Would be sick to attend this, Norrköping aint very far from Stockholm anyways but I might be going to Spain during the time of the event so we'll see^^.

Thats true, if this is going to happen we need to make sure to fill the whole bar so that we can plan future events. Advertising on TL, Flashback and other internetforums is the key to sucess!

Ok so i was thinking abit today about this. I think olearys is a pretty nice place to have it, but it is pretty expensiv there, both the food and beer. So i was thinking if maybe its better to do it in town? If we talk to some random bar owner there im sure we could hook something up for a discount or something if we tell him we order a minimum of X beers and X amount of foods. What do you guys think? would this be a better idea?

We need one of these in Göteborg as well!

I'd definitely go. I live in Kallhäll, so it's a long bus ride for me, but that's fine. This sounds too great to miss.
|
This is awesome. I wish someone would step up and get a bar in Malmö!

Ok One more time since it seems to be unclear.
The local o Kista has no previous engagements but a lot of other Olearysbar do. We are looking for another bar and im also speaking to other bars not owned by Olearys, but thats more difficult since Olearys have all the equipement already and a lot of other bar, even sportsbars, dont.
Thats why Kista is an option at all.
|
A good thing with Kista is that it´s a lot easier for us gamers in Uppsala to drop by and watch a game.
:-)
Keep us posted how the event works out.

not nearly close to come in france :''(
|
Please post some pics and videos of TLO and other resident pro gamers in Stockholm visiting the bar.
Sounds seriously awesome.

Well, if you have to commute by train, I don't know how easy it would be to get there from Upplands Väsby. From the central station (until som date in October which I can't recall, 16th or something), you won't be able to take a direct connection over there. But hell, if you're as inclined to get there that you would travel from Uppsala, I reckon it wouldn't be a problem to do it in any case.

Really? I mean, I was on the northern way of the rail (the non-Systembolaget direction), and the places which sold kebab there were pretty bad in my opinion.
The best place I've heard of, which I haven't had the pleasure to visit yet, is located in Årsta I think.

It's very easy to get to Kista from Upplands Väsby, just take the "pendeltåg" to Helenelund, and it's a 10 min walk from there.

It is on Esplanaden, 20, just at the bottom of the hill with the tower on top (Tornparken I think?). It was the perfect meal to watch GSL :D.

Best kebabroll though is at Lötsjö pizzeria - you'll never regret eating that superb roll. I'm born, raised and living in Sundbyberg, so I know the sweet spots. And anyone living in the area, send a PM, seems like we can get a few nerds together for a possible LAN? Would love to meet more baller sc2-nerds in my hometown! :D Enough about Sundbyberg now though, let's not derail this awesome thread any more so it'll close! :D
OnTopic: Barcrafting in Kista is still a very good idea as far as I'm concerned, lets fill the place up with nerds when the next DHI comes around!!! (I'll try to get at least 4-5 non-TLers there)
|
Any word on doing this under the next MLG? Or will it be too soon?
|
I live in Kista so i would be there :D
|
I travel 1,5 hours to get to school in Kista, so me being there for some StarCraft is really likely! If you can get this running it would be like the coolest thing ever.
|
Will this be on for Raleigh?
|
I'll defenitly come if you manage to pull it of and I'll grab all the boys from Sundbyberg.
|
If it's a good date and all I think I could manage coming down from Solleftea just to attend this awesome "event"
|
I wasn't going to come until I noticed it was in Kista. I live in the suburb outside stockholm so I can get there by bus pretty easily.
|
I will be there for sure :D
Will bring some friends with me as well, see you guys there :D
|
I will be there for sure Also OP, when you know 100% that its going to happen, PM me on IRC or send me a PM here and I will post something about it on Rakaka.
|
Would be cool if this could happen in time for MLG. What's the next big tourny after MLG?
|
Will this BarCraft be this weekend? Or which date? Me and my nerd ballers will come fo'shoo
|
It's currently planned for the Dreamhack Valencia Invitationals, September 17th.
What's the current status btw?
|
Seems cool, also a good place for starcraft players to meet other players not on the internet. This type of thing could do amazing things to the American image of games and to just the video game culture here
|
There should be some mailing list / facebook group for news so it's easier to keep track of. I want to attend!
|
Hellu!
Ok, so Olearys at Norrmaln seems to be the the best place however they are booked for the 17th. But they said that they are more than willing to send starcraft2 matches so it seems that we have a good place to be (and a backup one actually at cafe 44) but i still have not found a fitting one that can send Valencia. But ill keep looking. Im getting short on time, since I myself is going to Valencia to work and need to start with preparations, but i have asked a few friends to keep looking.
Other fitting date this winter and autumn is of course Dreamhack Winter. Other dates? I want to send them to Olearys for booking right away. Think about the time, a lot of good turneys streaming in the middle of the night i sweden etc

None of my friends are into StarCraft or StarCraft 2, but it seems like an interesting event to check out, just out of curiousity. Will it be really awkward for me to go alone? I kinda feel like going, but I have no one to go with.

People are kind of tired of watching football players whine, this is fresh and interesting once they get to see it and someone explains a little bit about it.

While slightly offtopic, I too only recently started studying at SU, and before I kept hearing about that KTH and SU students organise SC2 tournaments, but there is currently not even half a sign of that anything like that ever happened! Think I've met like one starcraft player sofar.

The SC2 tournaments has mostly been online tournaments that was organized on our forum, we've also had tournaments on the LAN parties we've had. Right now there are a lot more people watching StarCraft than playing it though ^_^

OK, official statement for BarCraft Stockholm
Seems like we now have a bar to send Dreamhack Valencia!
And a bar that wants to send StarCraft manny more times, so this is the beginning of something beautiful. I will be going on vacation the next week and wont be able to work with the preparations any more, but i will update before that. All thats missing now is someone that knows streaming, talked to a few different people about that, and we are good to go. Been talking to the media as well, and they are going to write about it.
So, 17 september it is. First BarCraft Stockholm.

BarCraftSE har lokal inför DH Valencia! - Update inför första BarCraftSE! Nu har vi en lokal inför Dreamhack... http://tumblr.com/xh04er1ven
We now have a sportbar to stream Dreamhack Valencia in! Working on some technical difficulties, hopefully it will be fine.
The bar is The Crib on Sveavägen 55, if you're too lazy to click on the link.
|
Hellie was faster than me but here goes.
We have a place for the first BarCraft in Sweden; The Crib at Rådmansgatan, Sveavägen 55.
There are e few thing we have to work out to get a good stream but we are counting on that they will be fine. However there is an important fotbollmatch before so we wont be able to send until six. But that enough for some matches, semi finals and finals.
So, the 17th september it is. And we are gonna work hard to make sure the bandwidth is enough.

I forgot to book a table If anyone got room at their table for a girl or two, give me a shout.

I'll definitely be there standing since all the tables were booked by people more clever then myself and my friends. It just passed 500, hopefully more bars will pick up on starcraft when they see the swarm outside.

Actually, the Swedish constitution states that any single person who comes to Sweden is allowed to go in, no visa required, and they get healthcare, education, and pretty much every right a Swedish citizen has outside of the right to vote.
So, even though he stated his thoughts in a racist manner, he is right.

The best we have got is the FB-page, but all of those people wouldn't fit in the bar, so I'm not sure where you can get a list that accurate. If you check with the bar though, they might be able to inform you on who's hired tables. Just a thought.

Afaik the group on FB is a good initiative, but I would prefer to have an event invitation sent out to the members of the group so people thereby can reply whether they can come or not.
Easier to get a picture of how many attendees there will be.

Need this is southern Sweden too!

If you're a member of the group on Facebook, barcraft sthlm a guy just sent me info of alternative location: RETRO in sthlm 18-21.
I'm seriously considering getting on a fucking train to sthlm cause I'm so pumped for this!

It would be nice if there was a notice about the barcraft in Uppsala in the OP. It's going to be held at red room in Uppsala, Sweden.
Cheers for beers and ESPORTS!

Sorry to tell you this but it's on saturday You won't be able to make unless you get in early

Today's first world problem; now I am invited to so many starcraft bars I do not know which one to go to.
|
|
There's currently 4 (yes, four) bars in Stockholm that will show DH Valencia:
- The Crib (Tables are fully booked, ~30 spots available in the bar, stream starts at 6 pm. Some promo-stuff from Webhallen will be given out there afaik.)
- O'Learys Fridhemsplan (Tables are fully booked, ~140 spots available in the bar, stream starts at 2:45 PM)
- RETRO (Tables are fully booked, don't know # of barspots available, stream starts when dreamhack starts broadcasting)
- RETRO SOFO (Don't know how many seats available/booked, stream starts at 6 PM)
Additionally there 's one bar each in Uppsala and in Gothenburg, don't know any details about those. All info is available at http://barcraftsverige.se/ and the fb-group BarCraft Stockholm, though it's almost all in Swedish
I managed to book a table at O'Learys for me and two of my buddies, will be spending my saturday there starting 2:30 PM.

Hehe yeah unfortunately I lost to Cyto in the finals, and I don't know if Bambi attended =).

How's it going? I was planning on being there but with so many people and a huge crowd of nerds I'm at home now.
Good idea to swing by the crib now?
