not sure if this is post worthy but.... ((( I am getting a feeling it might get closed down soon by admit )))
There was a friendly Soccer matches between Korean SC2 teams and during the game Torch broke his nose *ouch* He is scheduled to take a surgery tomorrow. Lets wish him a quick recovery.
From torch's twitter he says
Haha thanks everyone for the well wishes! Soccer was a ton of fun at least and we only barely lost to the winning team.
Oh and side note. There were 4 teams. And MKP's team got second place. I guess MKP got neck for getting second place all the time
Doesn't appear to have been that friendly to me. Did he punch himself in the face or bash it over the keyboard? You don't just break your nose without something coming down, hard I might add, on it.
On April 13 2011 19:21 getpicture wrote: It was violent , so some racist intentional harm?
He could just have been hit in the face with a ball accidentally because he was standing at the wrong spot at the wrong time. Accidents like that happen in all kinds of sports, no need to bring racism or the whole foreigner/korean thing into this.
MKP: sorry guys.. ;..; Teammates: we know about your jinx but why didnt you tell us about it being an aura? you can get 2nd place all you want but don't push it to other people. sheesh. MKP: :'(
I have to agree with this. Not to be racist but the soccer culture in korea is a lot more contact-oriented than in the international standard. Even compared to places like England they play a very contact-oriented style. I'm sure this will change as the sport matures further over there.
I remember that game... the tackle where the italian blatantly dived and got sent off for arguing was such an incredible tackle, took the ball first and saved an almost certain goal... a few body checks and stuff in there but nothing that doesn't happen in domestic leagues every week imo.
There is so many ways you can brake your nose while playing football.. we have a saying in Portugal like: "football is not for girls" (of course we all know that girls can play and should and yes it's sexist)
i wish torch a speedy recovery!
Italians cannot and shouldn't talk about other countrys tackles or bad referee calls since they are knowned to be one of the dirtiest teams ever..
Lol yeah, those games had the worst refereeing that I have seen in recent World Cups, and coincidentally, they are the source of Korea's greatest footballing pride.
On the topic though, I doubt that the contact was intentional and that rather it was probably due to lack of coordination on the parties involved. :p
Hope TorcH gets better soon. He makes some nice content for the non-Korean community.
Sounds like a ball or balls in the face. Doesn't take much if you've previously broken it, and its just an outpatient procedure, he's fine He might be a bit uglier depending on where his nose ended up.
I have not seen the youtube video, nor have I followed soccer in recent years... But in general Italian soccer (Serie A) was(is) like ballet compared to (insert random) league. Small body-check and they dive like it's the Olympics. I like their team but all the Hollywood on the field just annoys the crap out of me.
So the youtube video (if it is what I think it is) says more about Italian soccer than Korean one.
lol @ the derailers who know nothing about football or what happened in the 2002 WC but proceed to trash SK's achievement. Fyi, they did not play dirty or overphysical in any of their games. Just look at the way dutch played in the last WC and compare that to how SK played and you'll see an ocean of difference. Guus Hiddink's main focus for the team was endurance and hard work. He worked the team's socks right off and polished their fitness to an immaculate level. Did we run around harassing and chasing down every ball? FUCK YES. Did we play dirty and commit intentional fouls just to bully the other team? FUCK NO.
As for the questionable refereeing decisions, it's an unavoidable factor in professional sports even at the highest level. Yes some of the decisions were iffy but they were made and you just have to accept and move on. To take away anything from SK though, is a dick move worthy of a major ballcrushing by yours truly. Ok, rant over.

loool, korean team beating up italian and spanish players all game long hahaha no offence to koreans every team does these stuff, but it looks funny when you compile the positions in one video :p I wish quick recovery for TorcH.

He definitely worked hard to teach the players to kick the opponents heads when theyre down and act like as if it was a mis-kick.
or did he tell the players to rely on bad calls for offside and disallowed goals?
ps: the ecuadorian ref responsible for italy vs s.korea was banned for 20 games after that for playing 13 mins injury time instead of 6, which led a team to score 2 more goals for a win. and also gave 3 red cards to another home team he was refereeing in. Also, he got caught for smuggling 6kg of heroin at JFK airport last year and could be serving 6 years of jailtime. sounds like the kind of person to receive bribes...

I don't follow soccer at all so forgive my ignorance of 'soccer culture,' but besides that dirty elbow in the beginning (I guess the ref missed it?) I didn't see anything except bad officiating and grown men acting like they had their balls hacked off from being grazed on the leg.
edit: back on topic, get well soon Torch and lol MKP taking second again.
Pft my friend broke his nose when we were playing. There was a struggle for the ball, and he fell on another friends knee with his face first, and the guy kinda jerked up his knee. Np though, a broken nose is just straightened out and it's fine. The guy who he fell on straightened it out, and he was over night at the hospital for a mild conussion. I don't see why he's going to surgery unless it's fallen off or anything :S Sounds like a drama queen ^^

So now you're blaming the idiotic and rash actions of one player on the head coach? You're actually trying to defame Hiddink for circumstances that were beyond his control? Do you also think Scolari was responsible for Rivaldo play acting like he'd been shot? or Domench was responsible for Zidane's headbutt against Materazzi? You don't give yourself much credit by flinging around such baseless and senseless accusations.
Anyways, I won't derail this thread further by arguing with you here. If you have anything actually credible to add, PM me.

Thats pretty much what they do if you go to the ER with a broken nose, they straighten it out and send you home ^^

Was going to mention this about the injury time... that game would have went on until Korea got through. Absolute travesty of a game. Everyone knew it, had it been hosted in another country Korea wouldn't have gotten the Injury time or gotten through. And I'm a Man Utd fan and we Have Park Ji-Sung play for us and I say this.
Football injuries happen all the time, regardless of level. I know plenty of kids who broke bones etc just having a kick around with friends, and plenty of professionals who suffered terrible injuries too.
Providing Torch's accident didn't occur like this + Show Spoiler +
I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

He and another player were going for a header. They apparently were coming at each other from a 90 degree angle. Torch says they both probably didn't see each other since they were looking at the ball.
Torch: "I went up to head the ball and closed my eyes (Doa wonders if it's normal to run full speed at something and close your eyes) and the next thing I knew I was on the ground and bleeding."
It's all bandaged up right now, but he doesn't look like the elephant man or anything. (yet) He needs surgery next week to fix it. '
So there you go. I'm handling the movie/book rights for the event so please contact me if you've prepared a script or draft.

DoA, you should have made it more dramatical! Now the script wont sell for much.
Also, a lot of players close their eyes when they jump up for a header. I don't know why but I guess they are afraid or something. You see it a lot in matches with younger players. :D
Well yea real football is a dangerous sport for americans . Anyways i hope for are speedy recovery for Torch and that he'll return with Messi magic on his feet next time !
The funny thing is that the first I hear about this is John messaging me on skype saying "Torch fractured his skull playing football." I was like WWHHHHATTT?? There was definitely something lost in translation there... lol.

Thank you for that. I was pretty sure there was no drama involved in this and apparently there wasn't.
All I see is Italian and Spanish players up to their usual theatrics.
"Someone's within 5 feet of me, time to take a nose dive and grab my ankle/knee!"
QFT! the italians are like ballet dancer and the spanish are dirty little cheaters. Spain did not deserve the 2010 WC, sure De Jong's kick was fucked up, but did you SEE pujol grabbing onto Robben's waist and getting dragged along 30 feet? or just after Casillas diving into Robben's legs and grabbing his ankle?
or how the winning goal score punched one of the Dutch players? or how the winning goal assist was offside when he passed it back (iirc) that match was a travesty as well. Holland should have won simply because De Jong, Puyol, Iniesta and Casillas should have gotten a red card

Sounds like a painful injury. Hopefully, he will recover quickly and soon get back into practicing for GSL and providing us with valuable tidbits from the Korean scene. I think we should all appreciate the amount of time and effort invested by Torch to be a foreign window into the Korean SC2 scene.
Also, I LOL at MKP being a Kong even outside of Starcraft.

This is why in hockey everybody always teaches a new player to keep his head up...and I thought we always yelled "heads up" or simply "heads" on the pitch when something like this could happen.
Broken nose bleeds a LOT but it does not hurt as much as it seems. I hope he didn't try to blow his nose (the blood out of his nose) when it was broken, his face could swell up it would not be a pretty "face".
All in all, wish you a fast recovery Torch and flame on.

Well, John was kinda right.... Trevor actually broke the bone at the top of his nose and not the cartilage which is why he needs surgery. I'll be out there soon to nurse him back to full handsomness. Pic of his lightly bandaged face: http://twitpic.com/4kfa6q

Sure, but even if he didn't close his eyes he would be looking at the ball midair and not opponent :D. So avoiding a headbut (or an elbow) would be close to impossible either way.

Either take this thread to the general forum or keep it strictly to Torch. This sure quickly turned from "Torch got injured while playing soccer" to "those dirty South Koreans".
All I see is Italian and Spanish players up to their usual theatrics.
"Someone's within 5 feet of me, time to take a nose dive and grab my ankle/knee!"
haha....that's exactly true about European soccer.
Germany and Holland are the toughest S.O.Bs in football, England come close 2nd, Italy and Spain are pansies, France are somewhat in the middle.
This is true, although I feel Holland plays dirtier than Germany does (they have like 3 players known for being rough).
lol Is this going offtopic about dirty EU soccer countries ? xD Don't judge the countries on past WC because many teams did not play to their usual styles.
Ontopic: lol is Haypro just chilling there ? Is he that bad at soccer that no one wants to pass him the ball xD?
I heard HuK said that he was ridiculously good but I see no picture of him scoring a goal yet.
Sounds so much fun to play football between progamers :D
Most of those looked like incompetent tackles rather than intentional. It seems that a lot of calls weren't made during that game, but then again part of the WC was in South Korea so I guess the official may have been a little biased.
